The Rutland & Derby Arms in Leicester

Visited last night (post refurbishment) as part of the now iconic Oyster and Stout St Patrick’s Day celebration’s. If I had to sum this pub up in one word, it would be SUBLIME! The new look (and feel) R&D has really set itself apart, from other city centre based pubs- it wouldn’t look out of place in Chelsea (but thankfully you won’t paying London food and drink prices)! Upon arrival we were met with a big smile and welcome (special thanks to El 😊). She was kind enough to show us around and tell us more about the refurbishment) Expect the same friendly, welcoming atmosphere, lovely selection of food and beers, just in rather fancier surroundings. Can’t wait to come back for another delicious pint of Camden stout!

Had a Fruday night visit after comedy festival, nice surroundings and decent crowd. Supped the camden stout - very nice.

2 drinks under a tenner, in town these days that's great!! didn't order food but saw one of the burgers come out and it was certainly something I would order 😋

Brilliant Real Pub. Lovely and friendly staff. Great outside space for when it's warmer and disabled access/automatic door opener too. Allegedly it's going to have a refit soon so thought it best to upload some photos of what it looks like before it changes lol

Bigger than it looks! Lots of seating inside and then loads out. Great service and facilities. Clean toilets. Cosy

This place has changed since my last visit in the late 90's! Now a smart, well appointed pub with excellent bar food. The burgers and loaded fries are a perfect accompaniment to the great range of beers.

Nice pub, looked at the wine menu and saw the server hanging on to the till, clearly made my choice but then was made to walk to the till to order, even though the place has mobile card readers. Would expect this in mcdonalds, not here.

Organised a retirement party at the Rutland and Derby. Spoke with Stuart the manager who arranged a reserved area for my party. Stuart also organised a facility to place a tab behind the bar (token system). On the night of the party Marceli and his team did a fantastic job. A very excellent atmosphere and experience at the R&D. I must say it is my favourite pub in Leicester city centre. Thank you for a brilliant night R&D it was magical.

Came in on saturday for food and drink with my mates Kye served us he was absolutely fantastic and quick with the service amazing recommendations aswell, big up

Muy buena comida, tenía la poutine brisket y el perro y ambos eran increíbles. También tenía algunas costillas de barbacoa que eran igualmente buenos. El chef hizo un gran trabajo teniendo en cuenta el tamaño de la fiesta que tuvimos y lo buena que era la comida. Emma y Els nos sirvieron y ambos eran brillantes. Hice un gran día aún mejor. ¡Gracias!

Lovely boozer with real quality. Buffalo NEIPA was amazing and the service top notch.

Five of us arriving late and perfectly organised by Emma, who got us seated, food ordered in time, and settled with a drink. Everyone enjoyed our “Canadian” food and a very pleasant evening. Thanks, Emma

We come every Friday as our end of week treat at lunch and the food staff and drinks are amazing! Special mention to Eloise who has now become a friend and is an asset to the business!

Eloise always greets us with a smile and makes us feel extremely welcome. The R&D is a great pub and the food is amazing but without the smiles from behind the bar, it wouldn't be so great

Lovely couple of pints out with friends. Clean taps all round and a good selection of spirits. Didn't eat on this visit but have done before and will do again.

Nice pub,bit pricey, but you get what you pay for,will use it ever time me and my group go out

Staff were nice apart from one idiot bartender pretending to be macho man in hat,but other bartenders were brilliant especially girls ,they were nice and would ask every1 if served..but crowd in here was so good and sensible i wld say.

Lovely pub tucked away in Leicester city centre. Welcomed by a lovely young lady I believe called Eloise Very polite and helpful. Will definitely visit again

Stopped by for a quick bite during my stay in the city. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a very delicious meal. Highly recommend their deep fried Mac and cheese bites!

Just a little pricey otherwise nice pub

Always liked this place. Nice selection of drinks and nice clientele. Sat in the garden and enjoyed so.e warm sunshine. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Great place to watch the footy, several TVs and not very crowded. The burgers weren’t the best to be honest felt very overpriced but the truffle lover was banging. Sadly it did not come home

I’m absolutely obsessed with this pub! They do THE best buffalo chicken wings on the planet ❤️ The beer garden is a perfect sun trap and the music and vibes are always on point! The staff are always so lovely and accommodating, especially Marshall. He let us order via the app to our table and brought the drinks out so quick I love it here! Favourite spot in Leicester

Came to Rutland & Derby for some drinks, busy but managed to find a sheltered space in the garden! A server called Marshall was so lovely. He found us a table, we used the QR code and I SWEAR our drinks came out instantly (by Marshall himself) He made our night!!

Spent a couple of days in Leicester for a wedding and went into Rutland and Derby, near where we were staying for a couple of post flight beers. Stuart was very friendly and a good introduction to Leicester. We came back a couple of times over the time we were there and had a good experience every time! Would highly recommend.

Not a regular but has always been our preferred choice over the years. Brilliant everytime! Staff, service and venue...Still remember the time the bands used to play or solos..not sure if that still happens .. I'm sure it does.....All deserve merits...need I say more....

Was a quiet period when we went in for a drink (later evening on a Wednesday) but the staff were excellent. Very friendly, efficient and pleasant. The pub has a good feel about it.

Great service, great atmosphere. Lively, but you can hear your own conversations. Rooftop is a nice touch. The food is fine but it's not my reason to go there.

Arrived at 1700hrs all tables booked for the "QUIZERS" unless you want to sit down here! Now the QUIZZZZ startes at 1930hrs if you check the website, what the hell!!!! been coming here for years and will never darken your door again. What a bag of pants is that. I guess you want to keep your precious area clean and untouched for you quizzers and poo to the rest of the customers. We felt like we were being heared into a small area for people who where 150 minutes away. Your loss is someboby's gain you deserve a poor rating because that's a poor attiutde and in hindsight you will know it.

Always been a fan of The Rutland & Derby. Visited many times over the years. Always a decent crowd and atmosphere. Has a reasonable size private courtyard to the rear and a good amount of seating, which isn't particularly visible from the pavement - it's much bigger inside. Always clean and welcoming. Food and drink is of a good standard. Only issue is, it's much more popular than it was years ago - so on busy nights it can fill up quite quickly. That being said, it's never shoulder to shoulder and often there's seating free, albeit mostly outside on busy nights.

Booked a table for food and drinks, pre match....Leicester Tigers. Absolutely heaving...superb atmosphere. Highly recommended. Great staff.

Met with a friend and we had a nice coffee and catch-up as it was late morning so not busy. As I'm not a pub person I didn't know about it but recommended it.

Good city centre pub. Everards, so you're guaranteed a good pint. Perhaps a little hipsterish but like I said its city centre.

Went for thr poutine, being Quebecois and all, and thought it was quite good, albeit a little salty (the classic poutine). Burger was a little dry, but it was so good and filling (the classic burger)!

What a fab pub! Visiting Leicester for the day and looking for a quick bite in a pub, this was the perfect place. The poutine was to die for we shared the brisket and shawarma flavours and would love to try them all if we are in the area again. There was a decent selection on the bar and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The garden was small but nice and the overall appearance of the place was very tidy. Stuart and the team were a delight. Would absolutely recommend.

Very good pub with an excellent range of beers. Service was good despite the pub being busy on a match day. Seating was at a premium. Food looked amazing, although not sampled on this occasion. Just off the main city centre but worth the walk.

A clean place with really attentive staff. Everybody’s friendly. The pints are delicious, fresh, and cold. Really good bites on the menu too. Went back two nights in a row. Will be back again. Eloise took great care of us for dinner! Up the citeh.

Busy busy place. Good beer, lively atmosphere.

Great little hidden gem of a pub in the city. Food was great and seasonal, and I had the turkey poutine. It hit the right spot on a very cold December day. However, the only downside was that the place wasn't as warm and cosy as it should have been. Some of the other customers also thought this as they kept their winter coats on whilst having lunch.

Absolutely fantastic service, booked an area through email for retirement drinks with 40+ people. They rang me to confirm if we were still attending and the general manager even came and wished us well. Eloise, Allie and Kye were absolutely fantastic and such friendly staff, would recommend to everyone. Thank you so much :)

Came here for dinner one weekday evening and will definitely return. Food was great. Hot chocolate much better than expected from a pub. Pick and mix is cute. Staff really friendly.

Came for a birthday on the terrace and unfortunately it started raining. The staff were so helpful and kind in relocating us inside so we still had a great time. The atmosphere was lively but felt safe and everyone including staff was in great spirits. The drinks were really nice and the food too.

Went for an evening drink, bar staff was very attentive, was slightly quiet. Can highly recommend the pizza from the oven in the garden.

Just a step away from the Cathedral quarter you will find this super pub/restaurant with stunning roof garden and outdoor space. Don’t be fooled by the innocuous exterior - the welcome is warm and genuine, the food outstanding (don’t leave Leicester without having the Poutine here - you might ask what that is…basically the best chips and gravy you’ll ever have but do look at their menu for a more detailed description and the toppings offered, we had the beef brisket). Having worked in the restaurant/bar industry ourselves we couldn’t fault the quality of the food, the speed of service and the variety of drinks on offer. The atmosphere is lively, good for couples, groups and families - made even more so by the great welcome and chat with Joe (one of the managers) who obviously cares about the venue and his staff (buying them all ice lollies on the hottest day of the year). We will definitely be back - Jon and Laura from Suffolk

Amazing terrace which keeps the sun all day! Friends and I had the best time enjoying the great beers on offer and a bit of sun! The cocktail of the week was also banging ‘the mango tango’ should deffo make a spot on the main menu! Thanks guys!

Came here for the Sausage & Cider Festival. Place was busy with a lovely beer garden which included a roof terrace. Cider selection was really good and we tried several options. Staff were nice and manager was very helpful. Food itself was very nice but not worth the price, way overpriced for how much you get. Also another dog friendly venue.

Lovely place. There is something about this pub that feel warm yet refined. Delicious vegan Poutine, burgers and lovely staff. One of my favourite pubs. Only comment would be for the music to be slightly lower so we could hear each other easily. X

Lovely ambiance with helpful staff and a great selection of drinks

We have held a Summer party at the R&D for 2 years running and cannot fault it. The venue is excellent - we were lucky with the weather but it's lovely inside too - and the food, drinks and service are always great. The team are welcoming and accommodating and could not do enough for us before and during our events. (Have also been visiting on a personal level for many years and it's always been one of those places you can rely on for a really good night out). Thank you Stu, Andrea, Kai and co!
