The Rupee Room in South Ayrshire

In Ayr for 2 nights Airbnb. We both love curry and in 10 years have possibly one curry out or one takeaway per week, this was probably the tastiest food we have ever had. Poppadums and usual dips to start- lovely. Veg pakora and dips / lovely too. My wife is vegan and she was helped expertly by Umesh to get what she wanted, which was a Sourh Indian veg curry. She absolutely loved it, as did I with my King prawn Jalfrezi. Mouth- tinglingly good! Washed down by Cobra draft. It was a Monday night, quiet, but service attentive and on point by Umesh. Highly, highly recommended. Thank you.

Dosas are fabulous, tandoori chicken and naan excellent. Service friendly and efficient. Good value. Already booked to eat here again.

Very disappointed with the take away order that we had on 23 rd December 2023. We ordered. £149:90 in food and I asked if we would get complimentary poppadoms and spicy onions and there was also a mention of a discount for a large order but we ended up paying the full amount and the only poppadoms and onions were with a set meal which we ordered. My husband and I often get a takeaway for two and normally if it’s a full priced meal we get a small discount and always get free poppadoms and onions. The chicken and lamb kebab were definitely not worth the money. I did send in an e mail before writing this review but there was no reply. So if you are ordering a large amount of food check and double check what you are getting for your money!,

Nice selection of Indian food on offer. Well priced and meal deal before 6 o/c. Friendly staff and nothing is any bother. Never disappoints.

What a lovely time. 14 family members, including 3 little ones who all had amazing curries. Service was tremendous, nothing any trouble, and a talented chef you catered to all our tastes. Great friendly atmosphere and value for money. Thank you.

Me, my partner and my brother came to Rupee Room late Saturday night as I was playing in a local pub and wanted to eat after it, it was around 10pm, it was the only place that appeared open near us. They must have been cleaning up and getting ready to close and I asked if it was too late for service. The staff were super friendly and let us sit and have a meal. The food was great and the service was brilliant They could have easily turned us away as the restaurant was almost empty by this time. Food was amazing, service was brilliant and good price. Takeaway order and was really disappointed. Portion sizes are reducing dramatically and the food is now bland. Really disappointed as we have been using the Rupee Room for years. Sadly tonight will be the last time as it was just not worth the money. Average food but overpriced. Sad

Went on Fri before 6pm. ( 2 meals for £17 ) ,was no mention on the 2 for £17 menu about extra for certain meals and asked waitress if all meals on menu was 2 for £17 and she said yes but on getting home we noticed we were charged £5 extra? , emailed them to find out why and was ignored … place went right down hill , won’t be back .

Food lovers with Indian spices must visit this restaurant. They have got wide varieties for starters and main course. Umesh has been so good and kind. Really nice person. Their service is really wonderful. A must visit restaurant if you are in Ayr.

food was great, very tasty, atmosphere put as 1 as there was only the 3 of us in as it was quite late. but for me it was the most expensive meal I've had. that was for 3 currys 2 rice, 2 nan breads 4 onion bajies, and 3 bottles of beer £94. must of put on some sort of surcharge which I didn't realise about. but over all food was great.

Terrible service. They marked it as delivered on time, so had to chase as it hadn't arrived, then they said the driver was on his way. An hour later and it was still not delivered. When it finally arrived it was stone cold and we had no way of heating it as we were in a campsite as they knew. £65 wasted on abysmal service with not even a small refund offered. How they stay in business is beyond me!

A fine Indian meal to cap off a good day, preparing for the start of the SIAS. Greeted with a warm welcome from a very friendly waiter (top guy), we were sat down and enjoying a Kingfisher in no time (not quite on the same level as a Cobra unfortunately). Starting with Poppadoms and a Pickle Tray, the meal improved throughout. The dips were good but I did feel they were scrimping by only providing us with three pots (usually there are four or five, including Lime Pickle). For a starter, I ordered the half and half - Chicken Pakora and Haggis Pakora. This was accompanied by a lovely Chilli Sauce. The dish was enjoyable however, I felt the Pakora was ‘batter heavy’, reducing the taste and increasing the blandness. For a main, I decided on the Chicken Lassani. It was fantastic - full of flavour, just the right spice and a good helping. I shared some of the Pilau Rice with the rest of the table (small portion - one dish would probably do one person). The Naan’s were all great (massive as well) - I particularly liked the Garlic one as there was no holding back of any flavours. As a nod to us being in the military and as a gesture of good will, the waiter served us all a free drink at the end (I opted for a straight Cointreau). This was a reflection on just how nice he was - a real asset to the restaurant. Overall, a few minor qualms but the star of the show was the Curry - one of the best I’ve had. Very worthy of a 4/5 rating!

There is nothing like good Indian food, and this was nothing like good Indian food. I’ve persevered with Rupee Room but always disappointed. I ordered takeaway. Pakora were dry and overcooked. The korma didn’t taste like korma and chicken was dry and over cooked again. Everything tastes liked it’s been coated in (non Indian) herbs. Not for me.

Came here on a quiet Monday night. Had a curry each with a few sides, everything very tasty and service was good. Would definitely go back.

We found this by accident on a day trip to Ayr. Food was excellent and my hubby says was the nicest lamb Rogan josh he ever had. Loved my chicken tikka masala. Staff was friendly and could not do enough for us

Very unsatisfactory food and service. We ordered & took away food but regretted it later on as it was not good at all. They had packed a burnt naan/roti in our packet which was very disappointed. When we were receiving the food, they asked how many persons are going to eat it which was non of their business. I will not visit them again.

Poppadoms OK everything else was terrible. I take it the usual chef has either left or been finished due to covid. Get him back urgently or you will be closed soon. Also very expensive.

Last minute decision to eat in Ayr due to Bank Holiday travel chaos. So glad we did ! Poppadoms were fantastic , Pakora and Channa Poori superb , main courses of Chicken Tikka Chasni and Lamb Karahi were out of this world , rice and Naan brilliant! What a great experience , well done The Rupee Room ( PS keep hold of that Chef , he or she is an absolute gem 👍👍👍)

Genuinely this could be the worst Indian meal I’ve eaten - and by far the worst value. £7.50 for ONE SAMOSA. The main dish was vaguely passable - even though it wasn’t actually what I ordered. I challenged the waiter about the samosa when it arrived. £7.50 for one solitary, and very poor samosa. Only two weeks before I’d eaten in a Mayfair, London Indian restaurant and it was beautiful and significantly cheaper. And their portion was two samosas - which actually had some taste. The duty manager then had the cheek to tell me that “the price is on the menu - you decided. And anyway, often London is cheaper than the rest of the UK”….which is an interesting claim to make to a Londoner. The meal was all overpriced - very salty and the starters were over cooked. The waitress was lovely, but other than her efforts this place failed on every level. I’ll stick to Ayr India across the road for my next trip to Ayr.

I have being going to the restaurant for years now, I've never had one bad sit in meal or takeaway. It's my favourite restaurant. The food is always freshly cooked and is outstanding. The staff are friendly and very helpful if you need to ask them any questions. I would highly recommend the rupee room!!

A warm welcome on a busy Saturday night, open plan kitchen - could see our Nans being freshly cooked. Been coming to this restaurant since when it opened 20 odd years ago!

My husband and I love the take aways from this place,we never use anywhere else. The food is always perfectly cooked, fresh and piping hot. Flavours are great. Prompt delivery. Wouldn't hesitate in reccomending The Rupee Room.

New Chef & the food is now absolutely inedible. They were my take away for 12years. They wouldn't refund & I was told to go & sit down little women! Will post when i find another. However no stars from me!

Outstanding authentic Indian fare with great customer service. Best tasting I have ever had, very flavorful. I highly recommend.

Had the Chicken Garlic Chilli, gunpowder potatoes and onion and coriander rice. My belt was easier to chew than the chicken which, along with the potatoes was smeared in Asda’s Smart Price sweet and sour sauce. The first time in all my years that I have failed to finish an Indian meal. Rice was nice though. Not enough to feed a mouse but the few grains that they deigned to put in a dish were nice.

Seated quickly and service was extremely quick too, however does uncle Benn work in the kitchen? Phoned the restaurant n was told that they aren't standing in the kitchen so they don't know about lentils. I mean seriously,is this the response one should expect????? Nan is good. Poppadums are good. But that’s it. What you get served is not Indian food. Yeah, you can still eat it but the food will not settle your cravings for an Indian meal. Walked into an empty restaurant. Owner not bothering to greet or even acknowledge. Servers ushered us to the table. Clearly didn’t understand what’s what on the menu. Ordered South Indian chicken. It was coloured with red food Color! No spices no curry leaves. Just hot. The chick pea dish was manageable somehow. The pricey Parotha is of the frozen variety. Skip it. Won’t visit again.

This restaurant has changed hands since last visited and I'm afraid no where near as good. Decent Sunday special at £15 pp. Starter,mains and side. Food was fine except an awful attempt at pashwari nan. 4 soft drinks at £2.80 each also a bit steep. Long lost it's reputation.
