Lovely Indian - makes dishes that are lighter in calories - can also find dishes here that you won't get in a city centre Indian - parking to rear - someone has to drive that's the only drawback

We would rather drive to visit this restaurant than go to other Indian restaurants, as the service is always excellent, with friendly, attentive staff, who take time to know regulars. Our 8 year old loves it too.

Fui allí para cenar con amigos para descubrir que había cambiado su nombre y posiblemente su propietarios, aunque no puedo estar seguros de la última Política. Ahora siempre he disfrutado el banquete indio aquí y yo pasamos otra vez, pero me dio la sensación de que la comida no estaba a la altura. Los aperitivos estaban bien, pero le faltaba ese algo para que sean excelentes. El servicio era bueno como siempre pero la comida no llegar al mismo tiempo. Balbir's is no more - it is now "Spice Route". New ownership, same staff, same good service, same good Indian food selection. It is nice to see the continuance of the Balbir tradition.

Sin embargo, mi crítica no conocer a los consejeros de viaje requisitos, así que no pude ver, lo que es una vergüenza para el restaurante y que el público porque puede perderse un maravilloso restaurante indio. Yo sólo puedo asumir que las personas que usan para ver estas cosas se están convirtiendo descuidadas, que es una pena porque estaba deseando a mi segundo exploradores badge!!!

Estaba aquí con la familia en julio y tuvimos una cena muy agradable. Fuimos a la cosa para banquetes y sin duda no con hambre. El servicio era bueno y el lugar también estaba ocupada, que era muy agradable de ver. La comida es muy buena, pero de ninguna manera la mejor comida india que he probado en Ayrshire o en otro lugar en Escocia.

Bueno y variado menú. Un poco más platos de pescado que me he encontrado en otros restaurantes indios. es obvio por el olfato de 'sospechoso fuerte olor al entrar en el restaurante.

Thanks for overcharging us by double Balbirs and then giving a tiny discount when we spotted it ten minutes after paying. Good food but that's not good.

Quick Carryout ...As usual friendly service and two lovely starters.... but the Lamb Achari and and Vegetarian dish were way too salty.... terrible shame and very disappointed.. sorry folks no longer worth the swerve heading south to Girvan....

Lovely food. A change from the normal Indian. We had the banquet and it catered for all our likes. First visit for our guests and they really enjoyed it. Service was good and staff helpful when choosing our dishes. Overall a delightful night out.

I always enjoy going to balbirs to sit in and take away. The food is excellent with a great choice on the menu. Staff are very attentive. It is quite pricey but I think worth it.

We came here with friends for the first time as they have just moved to the Symington area. Staff were very welcoming and friendly! Food and service was fantastic! The only complaint I have is re the elderly couple who got seated at the next table to us. This couple were obviously regulars at the restaurant as all the waiters seemed to know and fuss over them but we had to sit and listen to the woman slate the young waitresses who were clearing some tables around about where we were sitting. This horrible woman did nothing but talk about how these young girls were not trained properly and did not have a clue what they were doing. In her eyes they should not have been working there. She went on and on to the point we did not stay for dessert and coffee we had to go. In my opinion these young girls have got to start somewhere at least they are out working trying to earn a living and all this woman could do was slate them to the ground, not nice to sit and listen to this for nearly half an hour. Apart from this we had a lovely meal.

Our meals were lovely the staff were extremely courteous and helpful, lovely atmosphere and great choice on menu.

The location isn't great but the food is worth going for. We usually go for special occasions and get the set price banquet ....truly delightful!

We tried this place out last week as I had heard great things about it,the rating is based on the food alone,I ordered a lamb boona with ginger and it is without doubt the best curry I have had in a long time,our starter came after about 15 minutes and the main came maybe 15 minutes after we finished our starter so the service was not great and there was only four other diners being served,I should say as we came in I noticed a party of about eight people sitting waiting as you walk in,ten minutes later they were shown to their table,as we were leaving their starter was just being served so I would guess they had a long night,any way I will try the take away as the curry was that good,but I don't think I will sit in again.

Two couples. Early Saturday evening. Around half full. Upon arrival was shown straight to our seats. Menu produced and asked about drinks. So far so good.Ordered a bottle of red wine and was very clear which bottle I wanted. Waiter arrived with a bottle of white wine and began to open. I pointed out that that was not what I ordered. He disappeared and came back with the correct bottle (not the end of that story).Waited approximately 15 minutes before anyone came back to us to take an order. We're now at our table for about half an hour. We like poppadoms and spiced onions to kick things off. I commented to the waiter that ideally these should have been brought to us whilst we were reading the menu. Now after 30 mins we are just getting to order them. We have to wait on them, then our starters and then our main meals. In a number of Indian restaurants thst we have been to, Poppadoms and onions are provided upon arrival and free of charge. Nice touch.Now, the food we all had was delicious. No problems with that. Main meals are around £13 without rice or nan. These are extra. So overall, not cheap.When our bill came, it was left on the table. A few minutes later when I ready to pay, I had a quick glance at the bill and instinctively knew that it was more than it should have been. Upon scrutiny, it was clear that I was charged for 2 bottles of wine and not just the one that we drank (remember their mistake earlier with the wine).No waiting staff to be seen, so went myself to the bar to sort it out. The original wine waiter approached me with the bank-card machine. I asked him if he remembered the original mix-up. 'Yes' he replied and immediately went to the screen and produced a new bill minus the additional bottle. At no point did I mention to him that the original bill had two bottles on it. Draw your own conclusions from that. The manager was sitting within ear-shot of all of this. He made no effort to get involved. No apology was made at any time for the mistake.I paid the correct bill amount and we left. (Kept a copy of both bills!).Summary - you'll pass the owner's huge cars as you enter the building, yet we only saw local kids as waiting staff. The food was first class and plenty of it, but check your bill before you leave.Overall, I would recommend this place to you for the food. Try it out. Personally, I won't be back. There are simply too many other high class competition restaurants within easy driving distance to choose from and I'm at an age where I won't compromise on service.

It may well be an old Little Chef building, but the contents will surprise you!Food is fantastic! The staff are happy to tailor the heat & also make recommendations on your preferences. Flavours are fantastic, and the food is all cooked in healthy oils, which makes a nice change.Definitely my favourite Indian in the Killie area.

Best Indian I have had, perfect ingredients and so fresh. Perfect portions, not too large and left feeling not overly full.Great atmosphere and attentive staff. Check your directions before travelling slightly confusing if you have not been before. Highly recommended Indian cuisine!

This place was recommended....we were not disappointed, the amount of cars in the car park was a good sign to start with, the busy bustling atmosphere was great, the food exceptional. Modern, clean and definitely worth a visit.

Prompt service and good food.They also do smaller portions if you fancy trying a few different curry dishes.

We had meaning to pop in here and try it out as we drive up adn down the M77 every other day,car park is always busy so we thought that was a good sign.We booked for 5.30 on a Sunday night,we arrived and there were 3 other tables busy,well within an hour the place was almost full,which for a Sunday night,tells you a lot.Food was amazing,not your usual run of the mill indian with food colouring galore,there was nothing i could fault,it was absoloutely delicious,service was attentive but not intrusive,when i compare this to indian food i had recently in Prestwick there is really no comparison.I would highly reccommend this place and this is definitely going to be our new Indian restaurant of choice,can't wait to return

The service was impeccable. We had the buffet type meal chosen for us once they had checked our likes and dislikes. It was superb!

First visit to Balbirs and decided to choose the banquet. All starters and main dishes were first class.The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful and what a meal you get for a reasonable price. Will definitely return and think we have found a new favourite restaurant.

Have visited here for dinner several times, also for take-aways. The quality of food is simply the best I have tried in South Ayrshire

This is an excellent restaurant. The quality of the cooking is very high. The ambience is good, the staff friendly and helpful. Happily go again.

The food cannot be faulted . The flavours are a delight and the Tandoori Salmon should be on any foodies bucket list. The service or rather lack of it was mayhem. I won't bore you with all the details but Balbirs seriously needs to get better trained slick service staff to make the overall experience one for comment for the right reasons. I don't want to be left sitting waiting for a table I reserved without the offer of a drink, I don't want to ask multiple times for drinks then receive the wrong one , I don't want to then be charged for it after giving up the will to live waiting for the bill . It's like housework - nobody notices if it's all in order. But if it's not , like a lack of service , it blares like a foghorn up the Clyde.

Another great experience at Balbirs. Food excellent as usual. We had the banquet and were not disappointed. Dishes were superb. Special treat too for husbands birthday. Highly recommend this venue. Staff friendly and attentive. Great experience and hope to be back soon. Thanks for making this a lovely birthday meal for my husband.

Great dining experience right from the front of house service till they wave you good bye.Brilliant idea of half portions which means we can share 4 little curries (or more if wish) between the two of us. Food is of outstanding quality in a restaurant market saturated with poor Indian eateries. So good that we make a 40 odd mile round trip every fortnight.

I can't think of a better Indian restaurant anywhere. The food is well thought out and full of healthy, tasty ingredients. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and it is a joy to sit with spotless white table covers and proper napkins. Brilliant all round.

This is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to. The food is freshly made and just wonderful.

I enjoyed our meal here, it wasn't too spicy or too creamy it was just right for our tastes. They made a couple of mistakes here and there but overall was a great experience and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to go out for a delicious Indian family meal.

This is well worth the trip up the A77 from the sticks. The staff are very pleasant and courteous. Food was well presented and delicious. We have never had a bad meal, whether sit-in or takeaway.

Just back from Balbir's where we eat frequently. I realised I've never actually written a review in here. Always have the banquet, the starters are wonderful and the succession of flavours exquisite. Reasonably priced too. One of my favourites.

We went on a wet Monday night and elected to have starter portions which they recommended I wanted a vegetarian dish and had a dumpling which was very different we also had a lamb dish which just melted in your mouth. A chicken dish which was fresh and very tasty. Fresh naan bread all in all it was very different from the normal Indian and a great boost to have such a place locally. For sure we shall be back.

This is well worth the trip down the M77. Great Indian cuisine, cooket to your taste. Friendly staff in nice surroundings. A must for curry lovers.

We visited Balbirs last Friday , 2 adults and three children. We decided to eat from the menu and not the banquet for a change. We had a mixture of starters and mains including some vegetarian dishes. The food was fresh and really tasty,try the paneer it's delicious. My only gripe? Slow the service down please, we were in and out in an hour and the second Kingfisher I ordered didn't teach me, although it was on the bill. This doesn't take away from the superb food.

We visited here with family on a Saturday evening, although we had booked and we were late arriving, the restaurant was not as busy as we had expected. Unlike most Indians that we frequent when we found that all of the waiting staff were Scottish and not Asian or Asian descent. They were however friendly and this had no bearing on the meal. I ordered for a starter, the tandoori salmon which was absolutely delicious. Main course however was different, there was nothing on the menu that appealed to me therefore I asked the waiter if they could do me a King Prawn Patia, which I have done in restaurants all over the world and never been refused. He told me that the chef did not like varying from the menu but he would ask him. When he came back, he told me that he would not but he would do me a king prawn parsi, which I had eaten many times before and which was another sweet and sour dish.I was happy to order this. What came however I think was a King Prawn Acharri, which was a thick lentil dish and was not to my taste. In fairness I must make it clear that the other three in our party all enjoyed their meals. The restaurant is quite out of the way on the old Kilmarnock to Ayr road and was difficult to get to due to inadequate signposting. When we got there the restaurant and amenities are modern clean and welcoming. Only downside, in such a remote area, it was disappointing that they did not have Wifi.

3 of us visited this venue to celebrate a belated birthday. We all had the banquet. Excellent value for money. The food was fabulous, staff and manager very attentive. Venue was very busy giving a nice friendly atmosphere. Overall wonderful evening and we will be back soon.

Great food, super variety. Lovely atmosphere. We just had a great urgency to have this kind of meal as we recently returned from a trip to Dubai and Oman and food standards are similar in many ways.

On writing this I have a horrible after taste in my mouth and feel sick! - Decided to order an Indian to save cooking on a Sunday. We drove 15 mins to Balbirs and 15mins home only to have the worst Indian meal to date. The veg pakora was stodgy and tasteless with the sauce tasting only of yogurt, my butter chicken was disgusting/inedible, it had a strange taste of sickness/strong cheese??? garlic chilli chicken was very average and the nan bread was disappointing. Considering this cost nearly £25 and we couldn't be bothered driving back to complain, it's safe to say we will never be back nor recommend. Also never a warm welcome at the door like you get elsewhere!

Three of us eat at Balbir's this evening. We had the taster banquet and every dish was lovely. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Snowing in Scotland, 16/01/2015 stuck on the M77 for over an hour, decided on way home that i would go to Balbirs on M77 for takeaway instead of cooking. Wish i had not bothered. Ordered Vegetable Pakora, and Chilli chicken, pakora was cooked in too hot an oil, it was nearly burnt on outside and not cooked on inside. Chilli chicken dish tasted like sickness. I could not eat this. I have frequented this restaurant for sit in meals and takeaways, I will never return, this is the third time i have had burnt outside not cooked inside vegetable pakora.Shocking to say the least.

Glad to say this place is excellent again. Service & food back to its usual high standard. We were so disappointed about 9 months ago that we didn't go back until now. Now back to being a favourite. Delighted I gave it another try.

Travelling home last week on one of the stormiest evenings of the year we decided to stop in for a takeaway. My wife and I have long since been fans of this restaurant and we have had many meals in all three of their previous locations in Ayrshire. We would always in the past go for the banquet but on this occasion we opted for a takeaway and we weren't disappointed in the slightest.We were greeted by two members of staff who were very polite before choosing the special menu as it looked like great value.Chickpea starter (always a favourite) and chicken pakora to begin with followed by two delicious and plentiful main courses with rice and nan bread. All for under £20. Excellent!We normally order a local delivery maybe a couple of times a month but this was far superior and worth making the relatively short journey up the A77 to collect. We will be back soon.

I attended Balbir's for a meal for my Uncle's 60th Birthday. There was 9 adults and my 9 week old kid in their pram. The staff were very helpful in placing us and took a genuine interest in my kid, cooing over them and being interactive. The staff were very knowledgeable about their food and were able to give advice and alternatives for my Gluten intolerant Aunt. The food was delicious and there was a nice rest between courses. All in all 8 of us paid (Uncle didn't have to as we paid for his), we had a starter and main course each, a selection of Naan's and rice and a few drinks each. The whole cost per head was just under £20, for what you get this is excellent. I am a great lover of Indian, Pakistani and Punjab food and I stand by my earlier review. Balbir's remains one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to and is definitely the best in Ayrshire.

Came here midweek as wanted a night off cooking ! Wasn't disappointed ! Lovely service and assistance from the staff and food waiter was just lovely . I had a chick pea starter and hubby had tandoori salmon . We then had a tapas of three mini curries which was a superb way to eat . Chicken mirchi was simply delicious . Will be back !

Visited on a dark stormy evening so it was unsurprisingly quite quiet. Didn't have high expectations for the nicely appointed and extended ex-Little Chef. However the Service was very good and the food was excellent, well presented and all very tasty. Not inexpensive but still value for money. Getting into the site is somewhat tricky with the road layout so keep an eye out from the Southbound carriageway.

We have a long standing love of the food served in Balbir's restaurants, and when we moved to Ayrshire from Glasgow became regulars here. We were gutted after a takeaway during the summer proved disappointing in many respects - soggy, greasy pakora and bland curries to name but a few. Well, I'm happy to say we gave it another go tonight, to find the restaurant has a new manager, and the food is back to the standard we had come to expect (maybe even a bit better); fresh, light and delicious. Will be recommending to everyone again.

I am very shocked at last few reviews - me and my family have been countless times over the years never any complaints - as for the bug it looks like a cardamom to me with strands opened up looking like antenas of a bug

Went for the banquet menu to try some new things.Was delicious and value for money but would not travel again as we have just as good an Indian locally. Enjoyed very much, definitely go if you live close by!

The starters were so ridiculously good, I wish I had two stomachs. One for starters, one for mains. The mains were just as good! Very good service too. Recommend to anyone. Is there a recipie book?

absolutely shocked at my recent takeaway meal to find a creature of some sort in my meal . environmental health will be notified and picture uploaded . disappointing as this was our favourite Indian .

Been here a few times always had great company the staff are pleasant. Was here recently and the food was unbearable. The chicken pakora was not cooked. Had to send that back. The main meal came out and again had to be sent back. Poor poor quality. Not what we expected. At the end of the day the staff realised we were not happy too the drinks off the bill and also a main meal off. Won't be back. Could have been a one off but has put me off for a good while nowNew chef you never know.

This is a bit out of the way but well worth finding. The staff are all greta and can't do too much.The food is much the best Indian food I've had with a huge variety from hot to mild .You can have loads of little half dishes between you all which is great and the Naan bread , especially Peshawar or Garlic, is to die for.Go, you won't regret it.

Restaurant is decorated to a high standard and provided a lovely setting for a great quality meal.We opted for the famous Balbirs banquet. Just tell your waiter what types of food and flavours you like and they bring out poppadoms and (very tasty) spiced onions followed by three courses. This included "mini mains" so we could try three different dishes. We had one lamb, one chicken and one veg dish but they will cater to your preferences. The food seems freshly prepared, and my particular favour was the Indian fillet of salmon starter.A lot of Indian and Chinese restaurants give me the impression the sauces are just bought in bulk and heated up. This place, rightly or wrongly, didn't give me that feel. The quality of the food just seemed that bit better than other comparable restaurants.Price was reasonable. They do takeaways too, but only on collection. Will definitely re-visit.

First visit to this restaurant and certainly won't be the last. Lovely restaurant, meal was really delicious and staff were so pleasant and attentive, can't believe we' ve missed out on this wee gem of a place, excellent!

We've just given up on the takeaway we ordered. As to the title of the post, it relates to the overpowering use of cumin. We ordered 3 different dishes ( one person to return from work still to taste theirs) but the other two were awful. I don't know if there were actually any other spices used as per the menu description, but if so they were drowned. Isn't cumin the cheapest spice?

Been meaning to try this restaurant for some time. Love Indian food and normally travel to Mother India Cafe in Glasgow (best Indian restaurant ever) for some decent freshly made food. Was expecting the same if not better standard due to the reviews on trip advisor, the price of the food and the claim of making very fresh food to taste. This was one of the most expensive takeaway meals I have ever bought and the whole family were disappointed. Waste of money. Flavours not to our taste I'm afraid, butter chicken had a very strong and overpowering flavour of powdered cardamom and I am sure the other spice was clove. We generally love fresh herbs and spices in our curries but not sure what happened here. Not worth the expense, would have been more satisfied going to one of our local curry shops for bog standard takeaway, would have enjoyed it much better and saved ourselves a fortune.

was not a fan of the Balbir concept of the taster menu when I first tried it way back in Miller Road Ayr. BUT. Tried it again in the new location and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent with three starters, no pakora or spicy onions in sight, excellent !!!The three main courses were all tasty but then again. A curry is a curry in my eyes.The staff, although mostly very young, were all extremely keen to help and ALL with a smile on their faces.And as Arnie once said "I will be back".

Wonderful, authentic Indian food for take away or sit in. A fabulous treat. They have the usual range you would expect but also some more exotic choices! They will also recommend to you other dishes you may like rather than having "the usual". Great traditional naan breads too.

We had the tasting menu...3 starters 3 mains..You tell them what you like and what heat etc!...then they give you dishes accordingly.WOW....it was very very good.Tandoori Salmon was immense.The food service was quite good.BUT....we ordered fizz, and they opened and poured it, fine...they placed the ice bucket at the far corner of our table where we couldnt reach it, so i stood up to refill our glasses and moved the bucket where i could reach it. They saw me but ignored me.Then the starters were cleared and the bucket moved away again.....aaaargh!We couldnt reach the wine.So i stood up again and moved it closer and topped up the glasses, they saw me and ignored me again... finished the bottle and ordered another one.Guess what?...yes opened it and put it where we couldnt reach it.I asked the waitress if she could pour us some wine, she did, and then the manager when delivering bread moved it away again, i asked if they were going to keep doing that could they top up our glasses...oh! ...yes of course, i was told.Still no wine poured.....after this..If you read this Balbir..(the dad)...please please get your staff to attend the customers wine.....(you WILL sell more)after all it was quiet.But then it was still VERY VERY good.

I am a big fan of real Indian vegetarian food,that is freshly made on the premises,using fresh,not frozen or prepacked ingredients.I ate Vegetable Pakora with a pleasantly spiced homemade yoghurt chutney to start,it was a hearty and delicious selection of spiced batter and vegetables,some of which I took home.I then had a mixed vegetable curry,with large chunks of delicately spiced okra,aubergine,potato,tomato,etc,all of the vegetables were fresh,it is easy to spot frozen produce even in curries,I also had a tarka daal which was delicious too,with a lovely balance of the whole lentil and the sauce,which was rich with spices and herbs.To accompany these I had a plain naan bread which was nice and smoky and helped down the whole meal.Not everyone's choice of menu,I know,but for me as a vegetarian who has looked for great,real Indian food in Ayrshire,I was overjoyed.I really have eaten out a lot and lived in London for over 30 years enjoying the finest Indian food there.Balbir's Route 77 is as good as any Indian food of this type.

Was here with a group of friends, first time, and I am not very adventurous with spicy food but this was excellent. The waiter suggested the strength of my main course and he was spot on, not too mild just right. The decor was a lovely surprise, I shall defiantly be back.

First time we have ever been to this restaurant after a friend recommended it. It is 30minutes outside Glasgow but well worth the trip. Had the most amazing meal - beautiful starter & when choosing the mains you can have half curry plates so we had four curries to try. Upon the server advising us on the types of curry he thought we'd like even more the choices were all fantastic. Great flavours & fresh, quality food. Will definitely be returning. Great value for money as well. Perfect.

We were a party of five for a Birthday meal. Three opted for the testing menu, this was excellent value with a good variety of dishes, the food seemed to be endless!The meals chosen from the main menu by the others were also good and tasty, the menu was a bit different from the standard Indian which was good for those who wanted to try something unusual.The Tandoori salmon was the best I have ever tasted and is a definite one to order again. The lamb was cooked perfectly in both the Rogan Gosh and the ginger bhuna.All in I would recommend visiting this, definitely worth the drive from East Kilbride.

The menu is exhaustive and offers a great variety of Indian cuisine. The service is efficient and food tastes almost as it would in India. Spacious with a decent Bar worth the drive out of town to get a delicious meal. The indirect approach is the only irritant to an otherwise great dining experience. Would strongly recommend this place if in the Ayrshire area.

we have eaten here several times and in our experience it is one of the best Indian restaurants in Scotland, maybe even the best, although we haven't eaten in every one, everything is so fresh and tasty, you can chose portion size and therefore try different dishes anytime we fancy an Indian meal we would go here first

We attended Balbir's Indian restaurant for a family meal and were more than impressed! We were pleased that we got to meet Balbir himself who catered to everyone's needs and all the staff were very attentive. We had the banquet meal for 12 which included a huge variety of starters and mains- all delicious. The tandoori salmon in particular was exceptional. We recently dined in a very expensive London Indian, this was far better and a fraction of the price. Definitely recommended!!

Went for a birthday dinner last week and the food was delicious. The food was fresh and full of flavour as well as arriving in a good sized portion. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Definitely one of the best Indian resaurants in the country and I can't wait to go back.

We have eaten at Balbir'[s a few times before, so decided to treat ourselves as we felt like having a curry. We were not disappointed.My wife's starter was the tandoori salmon, which she found absolutely delicious and fairly spicy. I had the fish pakora which came with a sharp sauce with a hint of vinegar as well as spice. Set of the tenderly cooked fish in the lightest of batters perfectly.For main course my wife had the chicken tarriwala, which comes on the bone (there are chicken legs in the dish) while I had the lamb ginger bhoona. We were asked how spicy we liked it so Balbir's are prepared to vary the intensity of each dish to your taste. Having tried each other's,. we agreed that they were hotter than medium but very full of flavour. My lamb had shavings of ginger through it, though the chicken, whose gravy was described as "rich in cardamom, mace and coriander" did not have an identifiable coriander flavour. That did not detract from the enjoyment of an excellent dish set off beautifully by the sweetness of the Peshwari naan bread.The service was friendly and impeccable. I am surprised to read someone else complain of it, as everyone who spoke with us could not have been more welcoming or helpful.My only regret is for the proprietors of this first class restaurant, who have lost passing trade as a result of the removal of direct access to the A77 and apparently a reluctance on the part of the authorities to allow them to place permanent direction signs at the nearest junction. It is well worth making a little effort to find the way in. We have dined there several times now and the food is always high quality at quite reasonable prices.

Love the food here. And the staff are all very friendly. Think it is a disgrace that the council will not put up proper road signs since they have reconfigured the roads. They have done for other nearby businesses.

Balbirs is a real treat. The "banquet" format is brilliant- perfect for groups or anyone wanting to try some dishes they wouldn't usually! The food keeps coming....you can select how hot you want the curries to be, if you want to try some seafood (the tandoori salmon is lovely) and can request more of particular favourites. A cracking restaurant. I love it.

This place provides all that you would ask of a nice Indian restaurant. The menu overs great choice, the food tastes wonderful and the service is faultless.

2nd visit and was not disappointed with anything. Lovely setting with very attentive waiters and the food was mouth watering with a wow factor thrown in. My partner is vegetarian and she was delighted with her selections. Just a totally different experience at Balbirs and its always busy which is usually a very good sign.

Never fancied the look of this place but,my goodness looks can be deceiving ,inside is stunning,the staff very efficient and friendly,and the food out of this world our first visit but will not be our last .

Starter was excellent.Main course was brilliant.Sweet was very nice.Service was friendly and efficient.This is not our first visit and certainly won't be our last. I really like an Indian meal and this place is one of my favourite places.

This review wasn't helped by the powers that be changing the road layout and getting my satnav lost. However, what happened when we got there was really strange. We were met by a Scotsman in a kilt who determined from my accent that I was English rather than Scottish. Nothing wrong with that, but later on all the Scottish party's present seemed to have an excellent relationship with the staff, and in contrast we were virtually ignored. Nothing wrong with that either. When we came to order we looked at the menu and selected 3 mains. The reason being there were no vegetables dishes listed. We were told we could not order three mains (no reason given). We asked about vegetable dishes but were told there were none as there was no call for them.Aside from refraining from making private jokes about Scotland being a vegetable-free country, we ate up and left.Not a very enjoyable experience.

Wenr with friends for my birthday had a first class meal.We chose to have the banguet,,there was plentyto eat and they brought more food if it was needed.Staff very friendly and helpfull when deciding what to order.Cannot wait to go back.

We regularly pass Balbir's on our way between Ayr and Glasgow, although it has been many years since we last visited this restaurant. However when travelling home recently on a quite Sunday evening we decided on the spur of the moment to give Balbir's another try. We found the interior was contemporary giving a comfortable and pleasing atmosphere with an attractive open aspect to the rear. When we first visited all those years ago menus were not evident as diners were encouraged to discuss their requirements with their waiter. We understand that individual ordering is still available but menus are now standard, and we were immediately attracted to the opportunity of having half portions for all main courses. This must be difficult for the kitchen on busy nights as between us we ordered 4 half portions of various chicken and lamb dishes and enjoyed what turned out to be a delicious sampling treat. Service was discrete, efficient and very pleasant and overall our unplanned Indian meal was an absolute delight.You now have to access Balbir's from a new road to the rear of the property due to the recent upgrading of the A77 and although this might not be to clear at the moment to new diners it is certainly worth the effort to get there.

As a regular diner here I was concerned by a change in the quality of food at my most recent visit. We always have the banquet as we both thoroughly enjoy the food and have always thought it good value. We still ordered the usual starters ... But there were definite differences in the bel poori, chickpeas and salmon. Some of the ingredients seem to have been changed ( perhaps cheaper options?) and although the difference is slight... Stodgier pancake with chickpea, different crispy bits in bel poori- we both noticed immediately. Otherwise service was excellent and mains were good. I would be very interested to know if there is a new chef.... Or did the restaurant lose money while the new road was being built and have therefore had to cut some corners?

Visited Balbirs on Wednesday with friends. The Tandoori Salmon Starter is truly delicious. The main course was average and quite expensive for what we had. Would visit again if just for the salmon. Memorable

With a couple of friends we took a trip down to Route 77. From start to finish we had a great meal and fabulous service. This family owned and run restaurant has been undergoing some recent renovations and these really show, the atmosphere inside is warm and welcoming and very relaxing, but the main reason I would recommend Balbirs is the superb quality of the food. All the dishes we ordered arrived promptly and every one was delicious, with amazing flavours that you could tell used fresh herbs and spices, in particular the lamb was melt in the mouth. In addition the fabulous food we also received very attentive service from very friendly and knowledgeable staff who helped us choose dishes and quantities to suit our appetites. Four clean plates and full stomachs at the end were testament to their good judgement. We will definitely be making the trip down the A77 again very soon.

I am a huge fan of the Glasgow restaurant and took the opportunity to try the Ayrshire restaurant when meeting friends from Troon. Food was great, service outstanding as normal. Will defiantly be back.

Regular at the Glasgow one so when visiting friends in Ayrshire decided to try the restaurant here. The food great as always, service brilliant. It was nice to see some of the Glasgow restaurants team here as well. Decor more casual than Glasgow branch, good atmosphere. Will be back. Great night out. Everyone loved it.

We normally visit here regularly & have always recommend it to everyone.Recently they've got a new menu & a lot of new staff.Service is slow & not as efficient. Starters brought before popadoms & spiced onions. My main course was lovely but not outstandingly tasty as normal. My husbands garlic chilli chicken is now too hot to enjoy.Please please please bring back the old Balbirs!

Well, after dining here at least twice a month for last six months, it will be our last visit.On arrival, had booked a table, which we weren't asked about. Not a problem though.Got a new menu handed, no set early evening, no half portion option at 6pm.Drinks order taken, comes back with one half lager and full pint, even though asked for both half.No jug of water, only after reminding them.Spiced onions were good, got given an extra poppadom as one was broken...Forgot to bring Pakora which was quite soft, and dripping in fat in the end.Our mains were below standard compared to previous visits.Chasni was more orange, karahi was hardly any sauce. Chicken was poor quality.Chippatees were out of brown flatbread, as in wholemeal.Service was slow.We were not given any sweats with bill.After complaining no refund or discount offered.This is all down to new management trying to reinvent the wheel...And increased prices... Very disappointed.

Since we moved from Glasgow to Ayrshire in October 2013 we have been here at least a dozen times, and every time we dine here we are never disappointed.The food is consistently to a high standard, aswell as service and price is great, especially the early dinner set menu.You can't chose any of the fish food dishes, but like tonight, the spicey onions, poppadoms, pakora, lamb saag, saag paneer, boiled rice, chippatees, and coffee was just excellent.So glad we left Glasgow to know we can eat just as great in South Ayrshire.Looking forward to next time already... :-)

Four of us had the Banquet at Balbir's last night. As ever, it was excellent, very filling, very well served and very tasty. Four courses, with different breads, five curries, and rice set us well on our way! And all this for £19 per headAs a side issue, we only drunk tap water and there was no charge even though it was quickly and pleasantly served, including a second jug - well done Balbir's!! This is often not the case and when we return as we surely will, alcohol will certainly be partaken.

This was a meeting with some friends whom we had not seen for about a year. We had not been there for some time. The place was very busy and it may be that they had underestimated staffing needs. Overall I would have to say we were disappointed both by the service and the quality of the food. After asking for a bottle of wine we had to wait about 40 minutes before it arrived at the table. They also contrived to forget one of the accompaniments to the meal and had to be reminded. It eventually arrived 10 minutes after the rest of the food. While some of the food was very good the 'vegetable sizzler' did not sizzle - in fact it was almost cold.Coffees arrived a considerable time after they were ordered, and while the attitude of the younger waiting staff was very helpful, the older hands really were not.Finally there appeared to be a problem with the plumbing in the toilets and one of our party (female) could not wash her hands after going to the toilet. Have recently been to 2 other Indian restaurants and this experience did not compare with them.

Just to say a HUGE thank you to Mac and the team at Route 77 for tending to the 20+ party last night. As usual the staff were friendly, tolerant, attentive and welcoming. We had great food and even coped easily with the access diversion from the works on the main 77 (at least they put some lovely yellow signs up to help find our favourite Indian cuisine! Love going there (60 miles away!).

I have been enjoying Indian cuisine in Glasgow for over 40 years. I have enjoyed some of the best and suffered some of the worst. This Balbir's Route 77 was very poor. The presentation of the starters was poor with pakoras, etc. put on plates with no salad, etc.The main courses appeared to be made from curry powder and not fresh herbs/ spices.The prices was steep at almost £140.00 for 6 people with only 3 alcoholic drinks.Would I go back to Balbir's Ayrshire -- No.I have been to Balbir's Glasgow and would very happily go there again.

Was treated to a surprise birthday meal here. Was thoroughly enjoyed, with the hosts servicing up dishes to titillate the taste buds. Would recommend Balbirs to all who enjoy a good Indian meal. The only negative comment that I would make is that we would have liked more time between the courses.

As a group from the local NHS we booked a table, originally for 12 but 3 people had to cancel at the last minute as they couldn't leave the department due to a busy workload. When we arrived, we explained the situation to the manager/owner, who I thought was going to have a stroke. He loudly chastised us all telling us we had cost him money by employing extra staff and opening another part of the restaurant. We were then made to wait for 20 mins. I wanted to leave but several guests had come from Glasgow and everyone was now hungry and were worried about getting a table elsewhere. We were eventually seated in a corner. I could not complain about the food which was very palatable and arrived promptly. Portion sizes were average and no-one left hungry. However, I would not recommend this restaurant in terms of customer care or service. Overall, a very unpleasant experience.

This was a celebration dinner for my daughters birthday. We had the usual banquet which was absolutely wonderful. The food was fabulous, staff very friendly. Always get a fabulous meal here and never leave disappointed. Look forward to visiting this venue again.

Got a take away tonight and food was nice, nothing great. Was shocked to see that everything has gone up in price and curries Increased on average 2 quid. That's the final straw for me. I put up with the dour faces everytime I go in, but the prices being increased like this is a joke. One of the main bosses is especially not nice and is so unwelcoming unless you arrive in a 60k car. He's horrible. Anyway I won't be bak

We went to try balbirs as our New Year's Eve dinner with friends and I only have one complaint........it was far to good!!! Never have we tried food with such tastes. The service was amazing very attentive and friendly. 100% recommend!! Thank you for a lovely evening.
