We used to go to the Rimmer Tavern for Sunday lunch many years ago. We find out they were doing food under the new management. We both had the sizzler mixed grill with fresh produce from a local farm Wow the food was ample tasty and fresh. Too much to eat but really great pub food. Friendly staff.We will be returning!.

Called into the Rummer Tavern for a light meal and a drink. I had the Cajun chicken dirty fries with a pint of strongbow fruit. Delicious cooked meal to order. Nicely served in a basket and liner. The service was welcoming, The Tavern was well decorated in Cardiff City FC colours. Good selection of meals and draft and bottled drinks. Perfect for meeting with friends, socializing, and predrinks before sporting and events in the heart of the city centre.

Had a much needed smarten up apart from the men's room. Beer prices are no longer cheap infact a bit expensive £5 for a Doombar.

Great staff,very helpful and really friendly. Terrific atmosphere for the football,in particular the Celtic games and all the Celtic lads are very friendly and welcoming. I will be definitely coming back. 👍

I used to come to the Rummer every week on my lunch break for their amazing hunters chicken. After the new management, it really lost its "old pub" vibe and they stopped food so I stopped going. I popped in today as they've got another new management team. They've given it life again. Repainted, opened the kitchen and just made it nicer. I was on break and would of loved to stay longer, so I'll be back in after work next time. The food could be to stay or takeaway which is really handy. It's tasted great too. Thank you for giving the pub some needed love. I'll be back again 🥰.

Bit rundown but still a nice pub . Haven't been in there for a long time.

Strange colour scheme and paint job that sucks all the traditional pub atmosphere and replaces it with a half arsed attempt at a 'sports bar', awkward football theming is being kind. Advertisements also played through the speakers completing the match day experience. AstroTurf compliments the beautiful traditional glass windows. You'd think there would be some precautions in place to stop things like this happening to historical buildings.

Friendly staff, but building is overdue a refurb

The place itself is a bit run down and scummy aesthetically but it's very well kept and cleaned, the staff are quite frankly phenomenal. Very friendly and accommodating. This would of been a 3 star besides the redemption of a VERY good pint of Guinness, properly poured by multiple bartenders and the right temperature

Best lil boozer in Cardiff. Super atmosphere. Staff where great craic, great chunes and incredible value for money. First place on list of pubs to revisit when Im back.

Gent's toilet smells awful ,is down in basement also could smell wacky backy from street when front door open

Great boozer, beers cheap, don't go to the toilets hold it in and wait till you get to another pub, the toilets are disgusting ,that's the only thing that let's this pub down .

Went here with my friends a few times now, great service from the staff make you feel welcome, pints go down lovely, prices are fair & nice location in middle of town & fantastic bit of silverware above the bar which you can even adjust your hair in the reflection. Would definitely recommend & will continue to use the rummer

Visited here with my partner for a bit of food and some drinks, food was lovely and great value and the staff couldn’t do enough for us, would definitely recommend.

I took my partner out for a drink in Cardiff over the Bank Holiday weekend an we ended up in a pub called the rummer tavern all I can say is what a great evening we had from the very welcoming bar who bend over backwards to make you feel welcome to the landlord and landlady who really make you feel part of the pub we even ended up playing bingo to the partners delight. Great pub great people great atmosphere.

We visited Cardiff for a weekend away,not thinking ahead we forgot to book into places. We walked past Rummers Tavern in the day but sadly it was full so we didn't go in. But later that evening we tried again and a lovely man (I'm guessing the manager) found us a table. The drinks can be ordered through the app or at the bar,they are great value and we were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. We enjoyed this bar so much we returned the following day mid afternoon,our intention was to stay for a couple then move on but they had Bingo on so we stayed and played that. The whole afternoon was great,lots of laughter and fun had by the whole pub! We ended up staying until close. If you like your typical old school friendly local pub feel then this is the bar for you. We will definitely be returning on our next visit. Thankyou.

Visited the Rummer on Friday for bank holiday weekend, what a night it was, they did a quiz night especially for bank holiday and it was amazing, then we got told quiz nights are every Monday, definitely will be going every Monday from now on, the staff and landlord and landlady were fantastic to us, definitely recommend you visit if you haven’t already

Went to Cardiff for the first time since the lockdown. Very welcoming and felt safe throughout the visit. Would recommend the Rummer Tavern to anyone. Great job.

We visited rummers to watch x2 games of rugby and football the previous night, not only did we have both games on television, but also bingo (which turned out to be the highlight of the night) - great service, unreal bar staff - very friendly and couldnt do enough for you! Would highly recommend great experience, and will return!

Went for a Blues match. Ended up playing bingo. Left winning a bottle of gin, prosecco, 4 VKs, 4 jager bombs and a round of drinks! Great staff and experience🍻🎉

Always stop here before going to watch football ! Proper good pub beer always A1 and really good prices , plenty of screens to watch sport , and nice areas if you want to just socialise! Staff attentive and friendly see you all soon .

Great place for a few drinks if you don’t want to get crammed in like some of the other bars in Cardiff. They played some good music on the Saturday night we were in there. Very welcoming bar staff.

My first time in this pub and I was pleasantly surprised by both the price and choice of the drinks selection, as well as the lovely friendly staff and management. Would highly recommend a visit if in Cardiff.

I’m am very disappointed with the recent refurbishment as before it was a charming old pub that had a warm welcoming feeling as you enter which was a rarity for Cardiff. Now it just feels like another typical recent refurbished pub with no atmosphere.

Recently visited for the first time since it had a makeover, it is cleaner and lighter now with a very good selection of beers and lagers, they have five of my all time favourite real ales in stock. The only let down was the fact that there is still an unpleasant smell in the Gents toilet which I had hoped they would have cured.

I was dismayed to find the Rummer has been converted into a generic sports bar with big screens and loud music. It used to be quite a cosy and atmospheric pub, reflecting its heritage as one of the oldest in Cardiff. We were served quickly but it was a bit annoying to find out they only take cash, which seems a bit odd for a centrally located pub. It doesn't look like they serve food anymore either.

The rummer tavern is now a sports bar.mid to high largrt price bracket with cash only payment if no cash.you have to run across the road to use the atm in my opinion.they.have destroyed the ambience of this old pub in fact this is the oldest.public house in cardiff.circa 1733

Popped infor a pint and stayed for two. I was concerned that the recent refurbishment, which has not gone down well with some, would detract from the pub. To be perfectly honest I found it a bit dingy before so was pleasantly surprised that it has improved. There are a number of TV screens (as it is now classed as a sports bar) but they are not as intrusive as you would expect. There is also a pool table to the rear. Overall worth the visit.

Oldest pub in Cardiff, bought by a chain and all the character destroyed in a generic refurb. Sky Sports posters all over it. They should be ashamed. Avoid.

A tasty pint of decent ale in a pleasant public house.This was our opinion of the Rummer Tavern.The decor was fourties style wooden floors and walls to suit.This was a city centre pub in Cardiff.We needed a drink and a rest,free from loud music.The locals came in and out as we sat.We sat for a good hour contemplating our next move.

Husband and I called in for a drink and a break from the cold weather. Enjoyed a drink of Doombar and dined on crisps. They do not do meals. Pub was clean and staff friendly. Quiet when we were in but could see that it would get busy with all the TV screens showing everything from sport to the news.

Popped in for our traditional Sunday lunch to be told they no longer do food - what an disappointment there’s becoming few and far places to go for a traditional Sunday lunch and this was one of the best - won’t be returning!

Visited on match as heard it had been refurbished. Quiet a small pub and was obviously busy but had one bar staff serving. Long wait to get served. Took aves before another member of staff turned up. Manager came and had a look but then left. Actually a nicely done out pub with some big tvs. Decent selection of beers. Run by amateurs.

Used the rummer for 30 years popped in yesterday 28/1 to check it out for myself. I preferd the black and white exterior than the new. To many TV's for my taste with the volume to high.No food but that's fine by me. Most of the work was much overdue and very necessary.pleasant place to be and I will return for a pint of Doom Bar

This place had been a bit neglected for years, but a new 'guvnor' is overseeing a refurbishment, and seems to know just what to keep of the old, and plan for the 'new'. It's a sweet and cosy place, with more space upstairs, with a lovely view of Cardiff Castle.

Went to the Rummer Tavern for dinner. It was nice, but nothing special. I had a baguette which was really nice and I got a lot of food for my money, but the tables were old and rickety and everything in the bar seemed dusty and old.

My husband I fancied a roast while we were shopping and popped in as it's was closest. I've been to the pub before but haven't had anything bar a bowl of chips with my drinks! We ordered 2 beef dinners which arrived really quickly. They were massive with beef covering half of the plate/bowl which is a genius move as there was a lot of delicious gravy! There was a decent amount of both boiled and roast potatoes and 5 different vegetables and a giant Yorkshire. Must've been good as we were silent and polished it off pretty swiftly! Highly recommend, will definitely be back.

I really love this pub, especially on a Sunday, as their vegetarian roast dinner is abundant and scrumptious. Good value for money. I like the interiors and the general atmosphere as well, it feels more "authentic" compared to other pubs. Friendly staff. Ideal position, as it faces Cardiff Castle.

Visited on 24th September this pub has lots character and friendly staff.We had looked for somewhere in the centre of Cardiff where we could get a good roast dinner found the reviews and decided to give The Rummer Tavern a try.We were not disappointed the lunch was great -good size portions good selection of vegetables really tasty and absolutely excellent value for money.We will definitely return.

We arrived about 12:15 and were a little disconcerted to be faced with a totally empty pub. We decided to stay and were rewarded with an excellent Sunday lunch. A huge plate of tender meat loads of fresh veg and lashings of gravy. Thoroughly recommended. (Incidentally it did start to fill up before we left)

Carvery on the Sunday we were there was excellent, both in taste and value for money. Beer was excellent and the bar staff really friendly.

I have lived in Cardiff for over 30 years but today was my first visit to the Rummer.The half timbered facade leads to a long bar where there is a choice of 7 cask ales.Those I tried were in first class condition at normal city centre prices.A nice peaceful atmosphere with no children allowed..The food menu is limited and basic but portions are very large.Will return.!

had a sunday roast at this pub yesterday, great place and great value for money £7.45 for decent size plate and really good quality meat and veg, they'Ve also got a good vegetarian option which is hard to find also great beer! I was suprised it wasn't that busy but I honestly think people don't know that this little pub does a cracking roast. I've had a sunday dinner at most cardiff pubs and this is probably one of the best for value and quality definitely worth it.

We visited Cardiff recently and enjoyed a pre-meal drink here. An old pub where you feel at home, the staff are friendly, the beer well kept ( according to my companion) and it's cheap too, at least by Southeast standards. We'd certainly visit again.

Great choice of beers and cider. Knowledgeable bar staff. Allowed a quick taster - when bar was not busy. A historic pub and a fun place (but don't try it on a wet, winter Monday - you may be the only customer).

Called into the Rummer before we went to see a concert for a quick drink. The place is unchanged and has a lot of its original features. The prices were ok and it was good service. A good traditional City centre pub.
