Loved this place. Great food, great price, variety of menus. Did meals like Shepherds pie, liver & bacon etc. Was sad when I discovered that the cafe had closed down.

A cafe tucked away next to a train station it was a really enlightening trip to this little cafe. Mainly used by locals and workers the menu was full of all the classics and for a very friendly price. There was a good atmosphere and happy staff which made the experience even better. It felt a little nostalgic as if it has always been like this. I don't really know what it was but theres a bit of charm about the place which was unmissable. If you authentic food with a taste of what local life is like then this is the place for you.

Visited the cafe for a light bite at around 2.30 pm on a Saturday, we asked if they were still serving food and we were told yes but you would need to be out by 3pm? Fine we said as we were too on a tight schedule so we swiftly ordered a simple sausage sandwich and a cup of tea, sausages arrived stone cold and the butter on the bread which I can only describe as axel grease! We call the waitress over and she removed her he plates and spoke to the cook and we could clearly see him waving his hands around angry and annoyed that we had the cheek to complain, we felt sorry and embarrassed for the waitress, she came back and only obeying orders from the cook with no apology just an offer of a half hearted repeat order to which we declined as we really had lost our appetite!! Especially after also seeing the food hygiene star rating report!! We walked out with no apology, no offer of a refund, incredIbly discraceful service all round!

The service is quick and the girls are so accomodating, and they will cook almost anything if you ask. There are breakfast specials, a good menu and I love their Ham, egg and chips! The seats are bolted to the floor, so there are no muscical chairs and no one gets bashed up!They even have my favourite bread pudding - always p;laced in the middle of the display cabinet - very tasty. Can't fault the place - looks a bit ropey from the street I suppose, but if you are not stuck up about these things, then this a hidden jewel in Westcliff.

The only place I have found in Southend that will do kippers and toast. They have a decent sized menu and regular specials but I have only ever had the kippers.

Friendly staff and cafe is clean..I like that the tables are quite spaced out so you're not sitting too close to other diners..I had salt beef sandwich which was on special...Definitely will be coming back for this...The proper stuff, not like a certain place in Leigh that served me up the rubbery meat out of a packet ! My partner comes here quite often and is always happy..Good food, good value...

A nice little cafe, with lots of choice, breakfast is good as is lunch. Staff are nice enough. But the place could do with a toilet, hence the lower score.

Me vienen aquí? Sólo como último recurso, si no había ningún otro sitio abierto.

This is a place to have a breakfast but I would not recommend it for lunch unless you want a fry up..Food disappointing as it was cold and potato hard. Not a choice for vegetarian food or low fat. It is what it is and that is a cafe designed for people on a low income where they can get a cheap meal.

LOVELY bacon roll and great prices. Proper cafe. Stuck in the 80s a bit with decor, but kind of adds to the ambience. The only thing I would say is the service is a bit cold. If you're not a builder/trucker and used to short, abrupt, speedy service - probably not the place for you. Would definitely return, but would be sooner if I knew I'd get a smile!!

We just missed out on the 1.99 early breakfast which probably would have lifted this to five stars. Otherwise a good hearty full english breakfast with each individual item tasting. Slight criticism is I dont think you get enough tinned tomatoes when buying them as an additional item (think my wife got 2 for 70p) and I dont really like paying over a fiver for a set breakfast menu, but otherwise this was a proper cafe and one of the best around.

the odd thing about this amazingly negative review is that the food is actually fare and cheap but what you may get with it makes the whole place seriously worth avoiding especially when there is so many food cheap cafes around at the moment anyway this my account of eating in there today:Whilst sitting there eating my breakfast as I have done for years at this place I noticed the breakfast come with hash browns on the plate, I don't particularly like them so I removed them from my plate. I ordered a number 2 which comes with many things and I wasn't sure if hash browns were art of what it came with and neither did I think to audit the items on the plate before I begun eating. The owner came out whilst I was eating and aggressively started saying to me ' why didn't you tell me you had the wrong breakfast you have cost me money' I said to him ' I have no idea what your talking about' so he contuned to state that I have eaten the wrong breakfast and implied continuously that this was dishonest and I had done it to make him out of pocket. This was in a full café in front of every one eating there lunch. Whilst this was going on the poor girl that had served the breakfast to me was mouthing the words 'sorry' to me and my friend that were sitting there in amazement saying nothing back at this point other than 'eh' and 'what'This ended up with me and my friend telling him what we thought of him and me paying ten pound to clear up any financial loss he may have encountered due to the 2 extra hash browns on my plate. That was the strangest experience and most horrible I have ever had whilst eating out and I urge you all to avoid this place to avoid being accused of thieving and you could also end up paying ten pound for 2 hash browns. What a weird experience that has left me bewildered and quite angry as well as thirty pound out of pocket which included a 2 pound tip that I had already paid to the waitress before the food came out, and to think I didn't even really get to finish it and chill as I had this wild eyed owner leaning over my table and accusing me of thievery. I know this sounds to bizarre to be true I was so glad to be with my friend and have a whiteness to this mans behaviour. Oh yeah and No toilet.

Visited the Rumbling Tum with family and were made to feel very welcome despite the staff being rushed off their feet. Most of us had the Full English which was cooked to perfection. And I'd recommend the sandwiches on thick crusty bread. Prices were reasonable too. Not surprised the place was packed on a rainy Tuesday morning!

Have been to other cafes in Hamlet Court road, not a patch on the Rumbling tum. The breakfast choice is extensive and includes everything you can think of. (Recommend the bubble and squeak). Have had main courses and the homemade hamburgers are one of the best. The bread pudding is sweet and moist and often take some away. Staff are always friendly and helpful and it's obvious the chef knows what he's doing. Always come here when we are in the area.

There is nothing better than a visit to Hamlet Court Road, early on a Saturday morning, to have a proper breakfast at the Rumbling Tum! Been a few times and never been disappointed! All food is freshly cooked to order and portion sizes are generous. Plenty of stuff on the menu too! Haven't tried a lunch time yet, but I am sure the choices will be equally as good. The coffee, which can sometimes be a bit hit and miss in a cafe, is excellent. Staff are always very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A great way to set yourself up for the day!

Visited several times. Always a good experience. Chill ambience. Friendly, helpful staff. Tasty, freshly made food. May be the best coffee I've had locally. Freshly ground. (Had 2 cups.) Today we ate bowl of fresh leek and potato soup (Todays soup. Need to check flavour on the day) with croutons and baguette. Avocado and halloumi on sourdough with red onion, tomatoes, rocket and chilli jam. All presented attractively and very tasty. Previously had other dishes - all good. Also, really allergy aware for those that need it.
