The Rum Kitchen - Shoreditch in Tower Hamlets

Rum kitchen is closed permanently!!!!! Sadly I only found this out after booking a brunch for my bday celebration... Turning up and seeing that the entire venue was deserted and dilapidated. Absolutely shocking. No warning or cancellation text meant that my friend and I had to walk around Shoreditch OK a Saturday trying to find another place to celebrate our birthday. Unbelievable.

It’s closed down! Even though they took my booking over the phone!

literally booked and took my card details and then me and my friends went to the restaurant and it was literally locked off. Couldn’t even go in. We wasted a trip and it still let me book for the table despite the shop being closed. Customer service lines were not even open, nothing was going through, so disappointed.

I made a booking for the bottomless brunch to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday on Sunday. I had a confirmation text too only to turn up and find the venue closed. The lack of communication is shocking, surely someone could have let us know it was closed

Booked a table and even had to re confirm booking via text only to arrive at the venue and it was closed!!!! No notice on the door, website, through the booking system or over the phone. Google says the restaurant is open normal hours and when you call up the automated messages also say the same message. Really gutted as was looking forward to dining here.

I wouldn't come here for brunch, they really water down the rum punch. I was in a group of 4 and we each had around 6 glasses each and was stone sober when we left. Jerk chicken was ok.

Arrived for my booking for food and was told the only food available was fries. No explanation for why. I understand there may have been circumstances out of their control that caused the drastic reduction in menu, however they had my phone number and email (I even was sent a request via SMS to confirm my booking the day before that I responded to) so surely It wouldn't have been difficult to call me and advise me of the restrictions. Only positive is that the location was near plenty of other food venues so we could find somewhere else to go at short notice.

Bottomless drinks were not great, food was minimal and tasteless. The service was the only good thing about it. Very expensive

Our group of nine encountered several issues at this restaurant. Upon arrival, we were seated at a table with only eight chairs, requiring us to find an additional chair. After waiting 20 minutes without being approached for our drink order, a member of our party had to seek out a server. Despite the presence of numerous staff members socialising at the bar, service remained slow. We attempted to order from a 2-for-1 cocktail deal but were initially told it was too busy to honor this offer. After some persistence, we received our drinks, except for mine which took an additional 20 minutes and required further inquiry. When I finally addressed the delay with the waiter, they implied the drink had already been delivered, which was not the case. It took another 10 minutes and more complaints before I received my drink. Additionally, some food orders arrived incomplete, missing items such as chips. If you have an allergy or intolerance I'd steer clear of this place, as the staff seemed fairly clueless in this regard. Overall, this restaurant seems poorly managed and the positive reviews are suspect. I do not recommend visiting, especially given the disappointing service.

Service was very slow to start with. Waited 45 minutes for our first round of drinks to be given. Then the following happened: There was no knowledge of the menu, we had two members of our party who are dairy intolerant. The website, the menu and what the waitor said all contradicted one another. One member of the party ordered a drink and it was never given. The waitor even had a cheek to say it was given to him, by one of the female members of staff behind the bar. She was incredibly rude after this and she was giving us evils all the time. The food order was never taken, until we said can we order our food please? This again was over an hour after we arrived. When our food arrived (which was delicious by the way) they did miss giving us our side of fries with the platter, the waitor again said it doesn't come with fries. Despite another 2 members had fries with their sharing platter. We asked twice for this and it never arrived. It ended up arriving after we asked for the bill and was ready to leave. The members of staff behind the bar were giving us evils and not professional at all. They were on their phones most of the time. Overall I wouldn't attend again, purely because of the service. I suggest some training is given to staff. It is a shame, because the food was nice.

Well all I can say is, carribbean brother's and sister, don't go there for the food, stick to the drinks. Totally spoilt my birthday dinner. Ordered starters, tasteless! Some ordered jellof, it was not jellof. Maybe they acquire more for non-melanated cultures. Suggest getting a carribbean chef in with their own recipes. Waitresses were nice, music and atmosphere was nice only as I had my family and friends there. Restaurant was empty 8-10pm. Has potential.

Unfortunately, the food at this restaurant was not good. The service was nothing to praise either, our food arrived after an hour. Also, the food that did arrive was the wrong order, we had to send it back. Ps, this is more of a personal preference but If you’re someone who likes a bit of quite or to at least hear what your mates are saying at the table then I recommend you don’t come here. Maybe it’s just me but the music was WAYY too loud for a restaurant setting….it’s advertised as a restaurant but felt like a club.

Awful experience. The restaurant itself wasn’t a welcoming atmosphere with ignoring staff and no consistency. Drinks ordered weren’t bought to us and no table service given unless asked. Waited over an hour for food to never arrive, yet others were receiving food. The music was far too loud to even hear yourself think, and at 7pm, didn’t seem appropriate. Tried amending the booking by email and phone, no answer. Overall an unwelcoming and hostile atmosphere for an hour and a half, and couldn’t even rate the food as it never turned up.

I visited your Shoreditch branch with a friend on the 7th of march (around 8pm) and to my shock and horror, my meal was accompanied by to rats/mice running around the restaurant floor! When me and my friend informed the three members of staff, only one of them seemed concerned (petite black lady) and the other two staff behind the bar shouted, ‘what do you want us to do!’ So, this told me they were very much aware of the rodents in the restaurant. I then requested that the manager be called; in which Victor (wearing a red jumper) explained that pest control had been called in the morning and I questioned why the restaurant had remained open, he claimed that the area is full of rodents and it’s to be expected. He then just starred at us for a few minuets then asked if we required any further assistance, then walked off. No apology, no explanation. I have visited your Soho and Brixton branches multiple times and had a lovely experience, and I can’t believe this is what is taking place in your Shoreditch branch.

Went midday, great food at great prices. If you're looking for authentic Caribbean food, go here. The Jerk chicken is well cooked, the variety is amazing and I'm sure in the evening it's quite possibly the place to eat. Definitely be back

They asked me to email them to "make things right", however, they've never answered my email !!!! Last night was so bad, it was unreal: When we arrived, the waiter asked if we had a booking (which we did) and told us if we were lying about having a booking, he wouldn't give us a table, even though they have free tables. He went to look for my booking under my last name and couldn't find it, came back to us and said that we lied and that he had told us that we wouldn't get us a table now. It then turned out the booking was under my first name, so he had to give us our table - either way the restaurant was half empty and hardly any customers arrived after us. That was really weird and rude. When the food came, the fries were Cold, when we told the waiter, he said that the kitchen was closed now and he couldn't get us warm fries. We insisted until he finally asked and then came back with hot fries. I ordered a halloumi avocado bun and took a few bites, then noticed there was no avocado, instead a huge mushroom - I have an allergy and am not supposed to eat mushrooms, and there was no avocado whatsoever. When the manager came, I asked her whether that was avocado and she said,no its mushroom - as if the bun wasn't even supposed to have avocado in it. She didn't apologise or anything, however at least she took it off the bill. She just took my plate away and didn't even offer me to have my fries still. Also, my friends food arrived 5 minute later than everyone else's, nobody apologised. Then, there was a mouse running on the floor behind us. NEVER EVER AGAIN ! THAT WAS STRAIGHT OUT OF A HORROR MOVIE

The food was very tasty but the service was amazing!! We went for the bottomless brunch and Viktor gave us the best service and he was a great vibe! I would reccommend.

I've ordered from Rum Kitchen three times now, and unfortunately, each experience has been marred by issues with my order. The initial instance saw the omission of my rice and peas, followed by the absence of chips in the second order. The most recent disappointment involved the non-inclusion of my drink, accompanied by a minuscule portion of chips, as evidenced in the attached image. Despite some tasty dishes, the unprofessional demeanor of the restaurant staff casts a shadow over the dining experience. Unless improvements are made in customer service, this branch may struggle to endure.

Booked online for bottomless brunch for a 40th birthday party, we turned up and was told that what we had booked online no longer exists and we had to choose the updated version! As we were a group of ten we could only have the option of all having the same drinks package and obviously being ppl drink different drinks this was not what we wanted or booked nunder the premise of, half an hour later after talking to three different staff we still had not been served even one drink... finally we managed to agree to order as two separate tables and drinks slowly started coming. The food was tiny a small starter if that and when we asked for the bill they presented us with a £600 bill.... it was meant to be £45 each lol safe to say the math was definitely not mathing and after yet another long conversation we were charged the correct amount. The chefs were amazing but the floor staff were utterly terrible will 100% never be going back. I would avoid at all costs

Travelled a long way but was disappointed to discover rice&peas were not available..but very helpful friendly staff gave us complimentary cocktails. Will definitely try again in the future

The food was just okay but if you're here for authentic Caribbean food. This isn't the place for it. Also, as a Caribbean, I loved the music but it was waaaay too loud. It's a restaurant, not a nightclub. I will say they did turn the music down a little bit when I asked but I'm sure it got turned back up again so in that way if you've got auditory sensitivity or if you just like to be able to hear the person next to you, not the place for you. However, they did a great job accommodating our large group so kudos to them for that!

If you're looking to dine with some unexpected company, then Rum Kitchen Shoreditch is the place for you! You'll be treated to the sight of two mice casually roaming around the restaurant. Despite the average food, I was surprised to witness these little mice running around. When I brought it to the attention of the staff, they seemed unfazed by the situation. One staff member even responded with a nonchalant attitude, saying, "What do you expect? It's Shoreditch. Mice are everywhere, along the street." I was taken aback by their dismissive tone. Thankfully, another staff member, who was much more pleasant, took it upon themselves to call the manager instead of giving us attitude. When the manager, approached us, he displayed nothing but indifference and a lackadaisical demeanour. He admitted to being aware of the mice problem and claimed that pest control had been called earlier that day, but insisted there was nothing more they could do. Shouldn't the restaurant be closed at this point? I highly doubt he actually called anyone; it seemed like he was just trying to brush off the issue. He then asked if he could leave without offering any apologies or solutions for our unsatisfactory experience. The kind staff member checked if any compensation had been offered for our meals, to which I replied no. Even they were shocked by this and went back to the manager, who then apologised and informed us that we wouldn't have to pay for our meals. I rarely write restaurant reviews, but this one was absolutely necessary! Whoever is in charge of Rum Kitchen, you need to retrain your staff, with the exception of one individual who understands customer service. Additionally, consider hiring a more mature manager who doesn't have such an attitude problem. I am not encouraging that the manager should lose their job but they are in need of training! They could definitely learn a thing or two from the welcoming and customer-oriented staff at the Brixton Rum Kitchen branch. The Brixton location is far superior, offering flavourful food and a better overall atmosphere. I will never set foot in the Shoreditch Rum Kitchen again.

We came here quite excited to have some carribean in shoreditch! Sadly the food was a major let down and on the pricey side. We ordered the chicken platter thinking we would get a variety of chicken but they were all horribly bland and unseasonal. There was barely any difference between the suya chicken. And "jerk" aside from the peanut sauce (also very bland) . Everything was dry just essentially barbecue plain chicken. Really could have done with some gravy. We even ordered the jerk bbq dip but not even that could save it. The plantain was the most flavourful thing there. Rice and peas were flavourless and the saltfish fritters somehow had absolutely no saltfish. Very unbusy on a Sunday which was strange but after the food I see why. Pretty place but awful jerk chicken.

Terrible. We walked in, got sat down after 5 minutes and then we waited for 15 minutes to even get a menu. asked to receive a menu, server said he’s going to get someone to get us a menu and then he proceeded to serve other tables without asking. said we were going to do the bottomless dinner package and sat there for a good extra 5 minutes waiting so we got up and left - was very telling of what it would be like if we stayed longer. completely ruined our saturday night birthday plans as other places needed a reservation. ridiculous! i can see why the tiktok reviews says this place is terrible. Carnaby street on is good, so go there if you can! Shoreditch branch is incredibly unprofessional and lousy.

The food was good. Extremely busy and dancehall music is played, which is great along as you're into that. With happy hour drinks you get two for one.

I came for a friend's birthday. We got the bottomless brunch. The food was very bland and but drinks were fine. The biggest disappointment was ordering roti and being given a very basic tortilla wrap instead. Service was disorganised. Very disappointed.

Should be rebranding to No Rum Kitchen. Bottomless Brunch is a complete waste of money. If you can get your drinks they're Rum Less. Why don't you at the very least have the drinks ready in jugs. With a minimal choice of options there was really no excuse for this. Staff hanging around waiting for a single barman to make drinks for multiple tables. Time would be better spent walking around topping up the drinks if they had them ready. It took nearly an hour for us to get just 3 tiny drinks of what was basically fruit juice each for our table with the 3rd being sent back when we questioned the alcohol content. If you're looking for a bottomless brunch this is the place to avoid. So many much better Caribbean Bottomless Brunches out there. Sorry won't be back and would not recommend as we ended up going to a local bar to get decent drinks.

We just had cocktails, but they were amazing! Panos who served us was so lovely, he couldn't have done enough for us and even went as far as to give us a rose and a wee chocolate! Lovely atmosphere, good music, friendly staff. Toilets were a wee bit away from seating but that happens- would definitely be back thank you Panos ☺️ Very reasonable too -2 for 1 cocktails so we stumbled out the door.

The service and vibe was good. However the food disappointed me by far. We was then given a complementary meal by George and he was very understanding and happy to compensate :)

Was excited to try Rum Kitchen Shoreditch as I have been to the one in Soho and had a great experience. Unfortunately the experience at Shoreditch was abysmal. When we arrived it took about 15 minutes for someone to take our drink orders. We were shocked when one of the young ladies approached our table to take our order as we assumed she was a customer as she had been sitting down near the bar since we arrived talking and using her phone. About 15 minutes after taking our drinks order the same young lady came back and told us both of our drinks were not available if we could choose another, my friend ended up choosing another that was available and that took another 10 minutes to arrive. The food order was wrong we asked for a crispy chicken wrap and a jerk chicken one was given, one of our dishes came 20 minutes after the rest of food was served…..all in all terrible service…..female staff were just doing their own thing, it was like we will chill with our friends and attend to you when we feel like it …..the 2 FOH male staff seemed more attentive and aware that they are at work to provide good customer service …..would never come back to Shoreditch branch.

One of the best brunches I’ve done! The service and quality has been amazing!! Naira and shy were absolutely amazing! From when we walked in to when we left they were attentive, welcoming and just amazing and made our afternoon! If you want a nice day out this is the place!!
