Food is amazing! First time eating here and the food was one of the best meals ive had. Also i won the meat raffle. Been meaning to write a reveiw for a while, so sorry for the delay. Really enjoyed the evening

Really enjoyed steak & vinny pie w chips & peas. My wife was equally impressed with fish pie w v tasty mixed leaf salad.

3rd March 2024 We read good reviews so decided to treat ourselfs to a delicious Sunday roast today . The plates were very full and looked delicious but sadly some of the fresh vegetables were cool/ cold , the beef rather hard to cut , the potatoes delicious . In fact the taste of the food was excellent but the meal was not piping hot as it should be . The veg was fresh and portions large , just wish the meal was much hotter . The beef although hard to cut was very tasty . We did politely tell the bartender who cleared the table and I spoke to him again when we paid , he assured us he had told the kitchen. We paid for our meal because we did eat it but it was very cold by the time we put down our cutlery . Just to add , we didn't want our meal reheating in a microwave that's why we didn't complain half way through . Constructive criticism and meant with kindness

We had a takeaway pulled pork burger, onion rings and chips. The burger was absolutely mouthwatering, honestly the best burger i've tasted in a long time. The wait time was very reasonable as well. All in all can't fault anything. Can't wait to try more from the menu.!

Couldn’t be further from the truth, the best burger we’ve eaten in a while, the meat itself was pour quality, put it altogether with the warm local service and nice people in the pub, I would highly recommend and next time might have a quick half. Very pleasant night out with lovely food, all fairly priced

First time in there,my daughter and fiance had just moved near by so we joined them for a drink. Member of staff(only the one)was so welcoming and made us feel at ease and it was a lovely atmosphere x

Great village pub, top landlord, top food at the weekends and friendly welcoming locals. Regular changing ales and a couple of nice ciders on tap, seating out the back and to the front to enjoy the winter sunshine. We'll worth a visit.

We enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch at the Royal Standard. Freshly cooked and plenty of it. We will definitely return.

A small pub run by very kind people who make you feel at home, delicious food with raw materials from local farms and producers. We had a great time and if we lived in the area we would be loyal customers. Highly recommended.

Toby welcomed me to hold my best friend's memorial at his pub with only cpl days notice. We had the best time. Toby and his locals were so friendly and accommodating throughout, including pouring me into a taxi to get me home safely. Thank you so much for your kindness xx

We had a delicious traditional meal with copious side salad. There are menu options with a continental twist and some for dietary requirements. Scott, the Chef, has a fascinating story and conveys his love of food through the excellent dishes he prepares and the attention he gives to his customers. If you want a simple, affordable, step back in time, don't miss the Royal Standard in Upwey, where time has stood still and the ales are as good as any you can remember.

What a wonderful pub all round! Such a great menu it was hard to choose what to have! We had various burgers and they were all very tasty and delicious. The warm welcome, the wine and beer, the chef who cooks with such pride and enthusiasm, the service; we couldn't have had better. Thank you to the whole team at the Royal Standard.

After ringing about 2 hours before we turned up to see if they would cater for SIXTEEN!!! They did and WOW!!!!! The service and the food was incredible!!!!! For a small local pub, where there was not much staff on! They were very accommodating to 5 tired mums and 11 chaotic kids!!! And the burgers!!!!! I fully recommend the Smokey Scott! The landlord, bar staff and chef were all full of conversation and nothing was too much trouble the shot of limoncello at the end was an added bonus! After a horrible few days of rainy camping this was a fantastic end to our holiday looking forward to coming back for burger night!!!

An truly superb pub, a real gem and a wonderful find. There's a bit of a story behind this one so indulge me if you will. We (17 large men) had decided to do the Weymouth to Swanage coastal walk in 2 days. After 20 miles in one day we were broken and decided to call off the rest. So the following day back at our campsite we decided a pub lunch would be a welcome treat. We looked online and came across a local pub - The Royal Standard. We called and asked if they would accommodate 17 hungry lads - which of course they could! We turned up to find the outside area set up exclusively for us, with a lovely lunch menu. The food was amazing - all ordered at the same time and all came out together - 17 meals with sides and drinks. I had the Burger with cheese and bacon - beautifully cooked and presented double stacked burger, thick bacon, cheddar cheese, served with onion rings and chips. Among other orders were ham egg and chips, fried fish and chips, chicken salad, and many more. A wonderfully accommodating team and a passionate chef who takes huge pride in his food! And so well priced and reasonable. You'll find in the area that prices - especially on the coast can be high and dare I say overpriced - but not at The Royal Standard - the team here are dedicated to real food for real prices. Can not recommended enough. Once again, thanks to the team from the 17 blokes that descended upon you and cleared you out! Great pub!

The standard of food is amazing and prices really reasonably. Large range of pies and burgers both were gorgeous. Gravy is amazing. If we are back this way again we will definitely come back to The Royal standard.

Wednesday night is burger night, they are delicious and I would highly recommend 😋 them. The chunky chips and onion rings are so good. Homemade with pulled pork, bacon, chilli cheese and even vegan buns.

After a day of wet and windy fieldwork, we came to the Royal Standard for food and drinks. I had the Bangkok Bad Boy Burger off the menu, completely vegan and tasted awesome. The patty was spiced incredibly well, had a good bite/consistency and the vegan cheese was superb. Red cabbage, skinny fries and onion rings were cooked good and complemented the burger. I am now feeling very satisfied and would definitely come back again!

The Bangkok bad boy burger was a fantastic vegan option. The head chef Scott came to check on how our meals were & was very clued up about vegan & veggie food.

Scott’s Kitchen burger night at the royal standard was incredible. Didn’t have to wait long at all and the burgers that came out were too class. All fresh, towered up perfectly, tasted amazing! Highly highly recommend coming here on a Wednesday night for these.

Myself and family visited for a roast with these guys a couple of weeks ago now. The food tasted lovely unfortunately it was just a bit colder than expected except the roast potatoes. A real shame that it wasn’t warm as it tasted beautiful

We stayed in Upwey over the bank holiday weekend and The Royal Standard was recommended to us by the host of our Airbnb. As a (very) regular pub-dweller I can honestly say that this was one of the best welcomes we’ve ever had, so much so I felt compelled to write this review. We turned up with our large dog, something that (understandably) can be a big ask for some pubs, not here, he was treated like a superstar from the very first minute and we too we were made to feel equally welcome. Everything from the food, drink, staff, toilets, fellow customers, hospitality (I could go on) was absolutely faultless, needless to say we visited more than once. Pubs have had a tough time of it lately and these guys have absolutely nailed it. If you’re in the area then do pay them a visit, you won’t be disappointed. We’ll certainly be back. Went for dinner tonight at late notice and were lucky to get a table as the pub was really busy. Despite the buzz we were served promptly with excellent food and cannot fault the level of service. Such a friendly, happy atmosphere. Thank you Tony and Lizzie!

Like the previous reviewer we had been recommended to come for the beer and food. Food bore no relation to the photos of previous guests - style, range or taste. Disappointed.

Went here due to an entry in an old Goodpub guide. Real ales did not taste great, no micrbrewery here anymore and service was, well apathetic On the evidence of this visit not not worth going here

Update: this pub now also has very good food indeed over the weekend. I have two excellent local pubs, and this is one of them. This pub is a survivor as it seems to me that many pubs like this have been lost. There is a changing range of real ales. Perhaps the main point for me is the air of conviviality that this place has. It is quite small and you can find yourself making friends with people you never knew before. Paul Kelly.

We called in while on holiday in Weymouth, after reading reviews on Tripadvisor we visited The Royal Standard on a Tuesday evening. On entering it was very quiet only a couple of drinkers. I ordered a pint of ale and a coke and asked "Are you doing food tonight " the answer was " Only Friday, Saturday and Sunday ". With 3 ales on tap,( all were 4 % ) I would not say this was a good selection as stated by other reviewers who all seem to live nearby. It was a wasted trip for us as we wanted to eat and had to make alternative plans.

Excellent food. Freshly cooked. Good basic selection on the menu. Good choice of wines. Great welcome. One of our party was in a wheelchair - nothing too much trouble. Easy access

We were prompted to eat here having had a leaflet through our door so we decided that we would "eat local" and support our local pub as somewhere different to try. We were certainly not disappointed. The menu is extensive and the food is excellent. We shared a starter and then had our main course. The food is well presented and plentiful. So much so that we could not manage a pudding. Next time - and there definitely will be a next time - we will forgo the starter and try a pudding after the main course. The restaurant area is cosy with the summer months just around the corner there is plenty of room to eat in the beer garden. We certainly have no hesitation in recommending The Royal Standard where we were made to feel very welcome.

I went on a spontaneous date night with my wife whilst staying with the in-laws; there was live music, a bustling group of locals and the food and service was top notch. We were waited on like we were the only people with politeness, healthy portions, delicious food and good prices. 2 meals, 2 desserts and 2 drinks only cost £42, a huge difference to London prices. Decided to give our 'local' a try for a special meal after reading good reviews recently. We were absolutely delighted with the welcome we received, the menu selection and the amount and standard of the food. We'll be calling in again in the not too distant future for sure. It's only a short walk from home so we can enjoy a decent drink at the same time. Special mention for landlord Toby too, top man.

Quiet Wednesday evening but a warm welcome in the pub. Great selection of ales and even better selection on the food menu. Fresh food cooked to order and great value. Friendly host in charge of the bar. Lovely atmosphere even though weekday quiet.

The Royal Standard now has a chef and a great menu. We rolled up after 8pm and they do food until 9pm (earlier on Sundays). We use the pub as a local’s bar but didn’t expect such good food! I had a chicken with peppers and chilli dish with skin-on fries and salad. Hubby had a tremendously thick and tender piece of gammon with chips and salad. All reasonably priced and well presented. Highly recommended. See you there!

This is a proper village pub, with a proper landlord. Toby and his team are very welcoming, and there is a brand new revamped menu, offering delicious choices to appeal to every taste. The wine is always good, and my husband enjoys the beer here when he meets up with 'The Boys' for their Monday night debating ( arguing ) group.

Wow, dropped into today for some lunch on a wet windy day and had the most fantastic home cooked food. It certainly brightened our day. The home battered cod was particularly delicious The host was super friendly and attentive we were made to feel very welcome in this local pub. Well worth a visit.

Visited this place as they have just started doing good old fashioned pub food. The meal which was hunters chicken for myself was excellent, served in timely fashion , sensibly priced and nice and hot. We had Lovely cider sat in the sunshine at the front of this little pub situated north of weymouth on the old main road. This friendly pub has a lovely, local atmosphere. Dog friendly and a little beer garden for children at the back.

What makes this place special, apart from the lovely homely interior is the Landlord. So knowledgeable about drinks.

Beer choice much better, they had a cracking "Proper Job" on tap there, lovely drop of splosh, The pies were also delivered promptly, they may have changed the landlord as it was certainly a lot better than our last visit.

We were staying at the River House B and B at Upwey. Unfortunately River House doesnt do evening meals and we were loathe to drive back into Weymouth. It was a Monday evening and there are two pubs in the village which do food. Apparently The Ship Inn do not do food on a Monday, so the other alternative was The Royal Standard.

Lovely pub, great village location, it has changed hands recently I have been led to believe, let's just hope it is run as great as the last young man ran it, very sad to see him not there anymore. He was a natural entertainer. Food now is just pies, not tried them so can't comment.

Lovely old pub in a great village location. I understand that it has just changed hands. This was the reason for my visit. I had been in here once about 4 months ago and the place was filthy, the cider and lager both tasted sour, one can only assume the beer lines had never been cleaned on a regular basis.

Our large group enjoyed a Chistmas Eve lunch. The food was fine, nothing special, just good basic pub grub. Some items were "off" and the service was slow,considering we seemed to be the only ones eating. But there was a supeb range of gins!!

Everything you could want in a cosy, local pub. We have been lucky enough to move into Upwey, a short walk from the Royal Standard. Exhausted after our move we decided to try our local, early on a Monday evening. From the moment we walked in, we were made to feel at home. Liam, the Landlord is a hugely personable character who strives to provide an excellent experience. It was steak night, but as a non-meat eater, Liam went out of his way to make sure I was catered for. We have been back several times since and have always been met with a warm, friendly greeting. Highly recommended is Sunday lunch, a fabulous meal at a very reasonable price. Looking forward to spending many happy hours in the pub enjoying live music and great grub!
