The Spice Ship hosted me and my hubby’s 50th party on Saturday 31ST May 2025, and they absolutely smashed it in terms of the buffet, setting up the restaurant area, making our 80 friends & family feel very welcome! Jenson and his team always made sure everyone was getting 5* service, the bar staff were always on hand and served everyone’s drinks in a quick professional manor as it was very busy!!! Thank you all so much for everything you did for our 50th party!!! All of our friends & family said how much they loved our party and what great fun!!! And also our lovely roast dinner this afternoon 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Shame of the terrible service because otherwise the place is OK. You can be having a drink at a table only to be told that they have just booked it and you have to move. And apparently because I was “only” having drinks I could not be offered the luxury of sitting down. There are other, nicer pubs, close by, so do a search if you are in the same situation.

We used the Spice Ship at Preston near Weymouth while on holiday with husky Bella. Our last visit to Dorset was about 30yrs ago so this was a memory trip. The Spice Ship was similar to what we remember. The was a good atmosphere on entertaining the pub/restaurant where bella the husky was made very welcome as other dogs were. Good selection of drinks ales beers cider ect. The food had a good choice at a fair price with good friendly professional service. Well worth a visit when in the area we booked a table every night on our visit.

This pub has a lovely atmosphere. But my medium steak was very tough and chewy. I wasn't given onion rings which were in description on menu. The steaks at wetherspoons are far better quality. My husband enjoyed his meal and the choice of beers. I deducted 1 star for the poor steak and 1 star for the missing onion rings.

We recently stayed at the Spice Ship, we do visit this pub regularly, normally just for food & drinks. However this wknd of 7-9th Feb 2025, we stayed here. It was very good. We stayed in the “Portland” room of the newly refurbished cottage & it was lovely. Beautifully decorated, clean & just great. Bed so comfy, bathroom lovely & a lovely little kitchen/dining area. Tea/coffee as well, very well equipped. Breakfast was included for the price which was lovely. Would highly recommend the stay here, staff friendly as well. Would definitely book again. The pub itself is a lovely pub a most of the staff were great . The starters we all had came out really quickly and they were really hot and very tasty . But afraid it went a bit down hill from there . After starters we waited for quite a while for the mains . The mixed grills had a steak that was the size of a biscuit they didn’t come with the sausages they did bring them out but after the mixed grill was practically been eaten ,the rump steaks were supposed to come out with onion rings and they didn’t come out till the end, the hunters chicken were inconsistent one had half a chicken breast and the other had what looked like 2 chicken breast on it .and the burgers and chicken platters that had been ordered came out about 20 mins after the other main. It was a large table of us so I can understand maybe a bit of wait but we had no apology either . The food wasn’t terrible but it just wasn’t the best . Just a disappointing experience really. Sorry

I've been here 3 years running for work and Jensen (landlord) is a great host The Spice Ship is a ship themed elegant pub restaurant... Beautifully decorated with a lot of ship memorabilia... Huge outdoor seating area with climbing frame for children. Spotlessly clean throughout and very friendly staff. The rooms here have been finished to a very high standard with the addition since my last visit of 4 extra letting rooms, 2 being in the old cottage on the side of the pub.... these can be rented singularly or as a self contained unit with 2 separate bedrooms, the top floor room includes a microwave, tv seating area and washing machine facilities Ideal for a family with children... (Photos) Just a stones throw from the beach this pub has many other high quality, beautifully decorated letting rooms and free parking... I'll let the Photos tell the rest of this story... So nice I'm thinking of booking this in the summer for me and the wife for a weekend getaway... exceptional coastal accommodation with on site dining and breakfast Call for current room rates

Over a month ago booked a table for 8 people, all confirmed. Arrived and they had our name and number but no table reserved. Told to find our own table except place was rammed of course being New Year’s Eve. Give a Table nicely then told to move as they promised it to someone else. Then was told could sit by the darts area high top table with kids playing. Had x2 elderly and walking stick very unsuitable. Found the original booking table however this was next to the bar under tv very small table. Could only just fit 6 people around it. Not suitable as next to bar constant people and dogs. Then asked again if there was any chance to make room was told no. Extremely disappointing as we booked over a month ago requesting to sit in restraunt area for 8 people. Very disappointing as we left and had planned to stay all evening with entertainment

We arrived about 2.30 looked around and chose a table that was NOT reserved, as we know sometimes they are, sat down and ordered drinks. We had been sat at the table about 10 mins when the barman came over and very rudely threw a tile on the table that said it was reserved from 16:15, no communication at all. We had noticed that a gentleman at the bar had got on the phone as soon as we sat down, the conversation that we could quite clearly hear was about another person coming to the pub with his dog and there were some people sat at his table(us)! We ordered food and another drink and we were still at the table at 4:15 when this other person came in, good lord we were made to feel awkward as we were stared at and blatantly talked about. If the table had been reserved when we went in I would have no problem with it but to treat customers like this is appalling.

We were enjoying relaxed drinks in this very busy pub when a waitress explained to a man alone at a table for 4 was told it was reserved. He told her he had been here all afternoon (drinking) and his family were going to be joining him. Two minutes later we’re told by the bartender that he was sorry but it had ‘just flagged up’ on their system that our table was booked. We moved, finished our drinks and left without eating as it was clear that the first table to be asked to move had refused so we were next to asked. We had Sunday lunch which was very poor with soggy mash ,cauliflower cheese which was not cooked and cold uncooked potatoes. The next table to us also complained about it being cold and left their meals, The meat was the only thing that was eatable ..this pub is poorly run we went in at night for a drink only to find the bar staff talking at the end of the bar while we stood waiting to be served. The Manager and a Barman where having an argument over shifts with the Barman using the f word- this not good practice in front of customers and should be done in the office. At 9.30 over the next 3 nights visits, the Bar staff where cleaning the tables and putting chairs on them making you feel unwelcome, seeming like they can't get rid of you quick enough. You can understand why pubs are closing when run like this.

We visited this pub for Sunday lunch based on recommendations from local socials. On arrival there were very few staff about and no enticing smells from the kitchen which I thought was odd especially for Sunday. Our table was in the bar area as we had dogs which was fine. Two choices of meat for the roast which again we ok. The dinner itself - plate hadn’t been pre warmed so food wasn’t that hot. Potatoes were definitely aunt Bessie, as was stuffing ball and Yorkshire pudding. Vegetables were ok and although there were a few different veg, they were very tiny portions of it. Nice touch with the side dish of cauliflower cheese though. Wine was poor. Had a large Malbec which was very tangy and tasted like it had been open a while. Had to ask for horseradish sauce as no sauces offered with the meal. Probably ok for regular pub food but for a roast then The Sun Inn at Dorchester or The Fat Badger knocks spits of this. Staff pleasant.

DONT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES! OR WANT QUALITY FOOD AND SERVICE! What a shame! I am coeliac which means I can’t eat gluten which was explained yet you bring me a meal with a Naan bread on despite explaining that I can’t eat gluten. That meal gets taken away and so do my poppadoms. I have always been ok with poppadoms as they are made from rice flour but apparently I can’t eat them. So I have a delayed service, a man who serves me to find out if I can eat poppadoms but never returns. Where did he go? And I am told by the man I complain to that “he’s not very good!” Like that makes it ok? And when I complain I am met with rudeness and being told I am in the wrong. Why should I pay full price for such shocking service . Food was pretty standard and tbh I could cook better than that, think Wetherspoons and not homemade. What a shame , especially rudeness from the staff member. That was very upsetting.

Came with family for Sunday dinner, table booked for 6pm with 8 of us, with 2 dogs. Arrived and it turned our our tables were already occupied, with 1 group through mid-drinks. We were moved to the restaurant part of the pub, which left us standing for a while. After being told to wait in a cramped location, while people watched the football, there were rude comments from some of the other customers watching football towards us, for complying with one of the staff asking us to wait. After around 10 minutes we finally got a table, where we were told there were no roasts, with some of us looking to have a Sunday roast before arrival. We ordered our food, which took around 40 minutes to arrive, not terrible for 8, however no staff coming to check if everything was ok when eating. Afterwards, we asked for the bill, where we were waiting for a good 20 minutes, leaving us all unimpressed.

I've used Weatherspoons many, many times and have always appreciated it for what it is: Affordable, basic food. This said, our visit to the Swan was more than dissapointing. We ordered 2 lots of the hunters chicken, the steak pudding and a jacket spud with beans and cheese. All were really poor. There was a tiny amount of BBQ sauce on the hunters chicken so we went to look for some in the sauces only to be told that you now have to pay for it!! At 99p for a tiny pot. I politely pointed out that hunters chicken is a bbq flavoured meal and every other wetherspoons supplies it with plenty on. I was simply told "if you want more, you'll have to pay for it". Customer service was awful. The portion sizes of all of the meals is dramatically smaller than they were and the prices higher. The steak pudding was cold in the middle and there were 12 chips on the plate...........the peas were nice, that was all. I did pass comment to a member of staff who didn't even manage words. We got a shrug. I travel the country extensively with my work and wetherspoons is always the first place I put into my sat nav for a breakfast or lunch. No more. From now on I will simply search for Greggs or Green king/hungry horse for something cheep and cheerful. I've always spoken in support of Wetherspoons when others have not. I doubt I will again. Pick up your game Wetgerspoons, you're going downhill fast but there's still time.
