DONT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES! OR WANT QUALITY FOOD AND SERVICE! What a shame! I am coeliac which means I can’t eat gluten which was explained yet you bring me a meal with a Naan bread on despite explaining that I can’t eat gluten. That meal gets taken away and so do my poppadoms. I have always been ok with poppadoms as they are made from rice flour but apparently I can’t eat them. So I have a delayed service, a man who serves me to find out if I can eat poppadoms but never returns. Where did he go? And I am told by the man I complain to that “he’s not very good!” Like that makes it ok? And when I complain I am met with rudeness and being told I am in the wrong. Why should I pay full price for such shocking service . Food was pretty standard and tbh I could cook better than that, think Wetherspoons and not homemade. What a shame , especially rudeness from the staff member. That was very upsetting.

Booked a table at 6pm for 10 for family Sunday. Advertised for Sunday lunches. Shown a table then were told no sunday lunches left. Would not have minded if they had said when booking that as it was the bank holiday weekend there was a good chance no Sunday lunches were left. Not good.

Came with family for Sunday dinner, table booked for 6pm with 8 of us, with 2 dogs. Arrived and it turned our our tables were already occupied, with 1 group through mid-drinks. We were moved to the restaurant part of the pub, which left us standing for a while. After being told to wait in a cramped location, while people watched the football, there were rude comments from some of the other customers watching football towards us, for complying with one of the staff asking us to wait. After around 10 minutes we finally got a table, where we were told there were no roasts, with some of us looking to have a Sunday roast before arrival. We ordered our food, which took around 40 minutes to arrive, not terrible for 8, however no staff coming to check if everything was ok when eating. Afterwards, we asked for the bill, where we were waiting for a good 20 minutes, leaving us all unimpressed.

Have been coming to this lovely little (ish) pub every year for the last 25 yrs when on annual holidays in Weymouth, Dorset. I have seen quite a few changes over the years as the place has undergone changes, (minor indoors, a bit more in the rear garden area). But it has obviously modernised keeping it's brilliant character intact. I would 200% recommend a visit to this cracking little pub. And to boot the food is absolutely lovely! (I'm not joking), especially their homemade beef & ale pie and mash. Hopefully the good lord allows me another visit next year... 🙏

Honestly cannot fault spice ship! They always go above and beyond. Even when they are extremely busy they try their best to make sure their customers are happy and informed, understandably waits for food do happen, but that’s always to be expected when booking food in a fast paced local pub! All the staff are lovely and have great relationships with the locals, and are a big part of the pubs atmosphere! We regularly use the pub for family meals and just general summer enjoyment and the kids love the small play park in the garden! They always put a lot of effort into events and live music and just generally have picked spice ship back up and put it back on the map! Jensen and his team really have put their heart and souls into it and it shows. Well done spice ship! Keep going!

## Spice Ship: Disappointing Experience Despite Potential The Spice Ship boasts a large and well-designed space, offering a lot of promise for a great pub experience. Unfortunately, our visit fell short in several areas. The food quality was underwhelming. While the menu might have variety, the actual dishes we received lacked quality. Customer service left a lot to be desired. The staff's behavior seemed immature and unprofessional. To top it off, the drinks seemed like short measures, and the explanations provided by the staff for this discrepancy were unconvincing. Overall, despite the pub's apparent potential, the combination of poor food quality, immature service, and questionable drink measures means we wouldn't recommend the Spice Ship and wouldn't be returning ourselves.

Had a lovely meal here on the Saturday so after walking to bowleaze Cove and back we called in for a drink on the Sunday at 7.10pm. The manager/owner proceeded to ring the bell, twice, loudly causing everyone to stare at me and my husband. He then informed us he wouldn't serve us as he was closing! How ridiculous. Anyway the pub over the road was happy to take our money. Such a shame as we were here for 2 weeks and would have used this pub a lot. I refuse to go in here again and will give my cash to landlords who aren't rude.

Food was great, our servers were not :(. Firstly, our initial server was a little abrupt throughout taking the order & serving food and didn’t offer a roast menu. There was no drinks menu on the tables either and whilst I understand this is a pub, the ones by home have this out as standard. Food was good for the price but there was a long wait to clear the plates & an even longer wait to get the bill and then we still had to stand and wait to pay. Overall the food was good so hats off to the kitchen staff, just a shame the front of house staff let it down.

I would not recommend, the food was below average. Staff inattentive to the point that pepper sauce did not arrive with the steak and went to bar to ask for it but still it did not arrive. Dietary requirements for one person tabke were not taken seriously and the food they could not eat eas scraped from their plate and returned to the table. The bench was not screwed down and completrly fell off 3 x causing toddler to hit head on the table. Whilst the manager apologised, I had a sense that this had happened before and is part of a general 'couldn't care less but will take your money thankyou very much' attitude. Shame as heard it was decent pub a few years back.

After finding this pub close to our holiday site we decided to book an evening meal there online. The process was quite easy, even for this old man, with confirmation from the booking site and the pub. During the week they offer a 2 course option at a reduced price, having made our choices we settled down to wait. Surprisingly the first course arrived in good time. The menu, although similar to other pub grub places all over the country, has some good variations. There is a reasonable choice of drinks at the bar, not just lagers. Another plus point is that the main bar is separate from the restaurant area, the TV and pool table is in its own area as well, so having a quiet meal is possible, with what looked to be a good sized garden area for the better weather. We were greeted with a smile and all the staff were happy to see you and attentive. There is a carpark to the side. Although it's very early in the season plenty of customers came in during our visit so maybe as the season progresses its worth 5 minutes making the booking.

Came here for dinner on Easter Sunday as a group of 3 and was disappointed. When we arrived and asked for a table the lad who 'greeted' us was abrupt and said he couldn't seat us (despite the restaurant not even being half full) due to staffing but we could try going through to the bar. Seemed counterproductive seeing as the staff still had to bring us our food which they dumped on our table with no checkin. We were able to order at the bar and were told cutlery would be at the end. I went up three times and there was none so had to ask for some when our food was delivered. I also ordered a glass of wine and had to ask for my glass to be changed twice because the first two were covered in marks and Lipstick stains. The bar staff were very nice and accomodating which with decent food were the saving grace of the experience and upped the service from 2☆ to 3☆

Staff were amazing, food was really good (most had Roast or Stack Burger) no one was disappointed. Food came quickly and all of us were served together. If you are wondering where to go for a decent, good value family meal. Look no further. Lovely garden if the sun shines with a play area and plenty of space to watch sport if that’s your thing. We aren’t on holiday, this is a pub local to us and we would highly recommend to locals and holiday makers alike. Think they are in for a busy season!

My sister and I went to Spice Ship for an early dinner and we absolutely regret it. We walked in to the half-empty restaurant area and told the woman at the podium there were two of us. She rudely replied “two what?”. We said “the two of us are here for dinner.” She left and came back with another rude woman that asked if we had a reservation for their half-empty restaurant. We said no and she said since there were only two of us we could sit at a small table- fine with us. She took us to the table and said someone would be back to take our drink order- no one ever did. We watched three other tables that sat down after us get drinks and even have their food order taken. I wanted a drink so I got up and went to the bar and got our drinks. I got back to the table and my sister said no one had been by- she even tried to wave down one of the women taking orders and said “hi, excuse me”. The woman ignored her and kept walking. We decided to finish our drinks and leave when a woman we had not seen before finally took our dinner order. No one ever took our drink order and when the drinks we got from the bar were empty, no one asked if we wanted another round. I’m fine going to the bar to get drinks but NONE of the tables around us had to do that. The food came out pretty fast- my burger was average and my sisters tikka masala was good. I’m not sure why were ignored but it was extremely disappointing and a terrible way to start our holiday weekend in Dorset.

Can't fault the staff on friendliness or service. Was very good. The food we had was great the first time we went but this weekend just gone it was no where near as good. The chicken tacos had multiple bits of bone in and some of it was very grisly. The chips were sopping in grease. The roast potatoes were frozen ones that were powdery inside. The parsnips were rock solid. May have just been an off day but none of our meals were spot on. Shame as we really like it here and love the atmosphere and the staff

They cannot deal with a large party, we come here last year and had the same problem. Baring in mind, you are in between 2 large haven sites, we want to come out and support local businesses instead of eating on site constantly. The reason of booking was for a birthday meal, mine and one others birthday is on the 19/03. So ventured for a good pub meal. One main problem, we have encountered, on both occasions, the staffs knowledge is very little. We thought to give it another go, as a year had passed. We asked the price of a roast, they didn’t know (they went off the price of the ‘other pub’). We went to the bar to ask what gins they sell, they didn’t know. And then: Allowing a drunk customer at the bar, to tell me, “you should know what you want”. You do not need your customers backing you up, due to lack of knowledge. That is really lame. 4/13 people on our table finished their dinner, 4 meals got sent back and refunded due to them literally being inedible or having the incorrect items on the plate. Adults meals came before kids meals, making the children even more agitated. As soon as we complained about our meals, we had a group of staff gathering and gossiping about us. If you’re going to gossip and laugh at customers, don’t do it right in front of them. Especially when, if no meals were refunded, we would have had a bill of over £200 not including drinks. Understanding that, hiring young adults, is cheap for the landlords, it would be good to give them some training as they seem to do doing their job blind. Step one is know your product, you can’t run a business, with staff unaware of what you sell or what comes on your plate. I have a lot of respect for the manager coming over and owning the situation, I didn’t mention the staff knowledge to him as I would not want to knock their confidence, especially in front of other customers. And of course, it’s the managers responsibility to train/retrain staff if they are unsure. Overall, not a good experience, and left hungrier then I arrived on my birthday meal.

Me and the wife ordered sunday dinnet whilst my son with autism ordered a veggie dinner. The meal was massive and well worthy of the price. I could only eat half of mine so asked if they had a container so I could take it back to the caravan to which the chef soon boxed up for me wihout any fuss, to which I microwaved the following day for my evening meal.
