Have visited this place a couple times over the last few years but stayed here last night now the pub has new landlords and what can I say !! Met friends there had food and the staff could not do enough for us food was great, Great selection of beers wines and spirits . We stayed in the bowleaze room and it was amazing everything we needed it had and value for money was absolutely brilliant . Full cooked English breakfast with a great choice of other options and drinks . This pub has something for everyone I loved my evening there and will be visiting there again,

We were enjoying relaxed drinks in this very busy pub when a waitress explained to a man alone at a table for 4 was told it was reserved. He told her he had been here all afternoon (drinking) and his family were going to be joining him. Two minutes later we’re told by the bartender that he was sorry but it had ‘just flagged up’ on their system that our table was booked. We moved, finished our drinks and left without eating as it was clear that the first table to be asked to move had refused so we were next to asked. Very poor service and a poor move by staff in the pub.

We had Sunday lunch which was very poor with soggy mash ,cauliflower cheese which was not cooked and cold uncooked potatoes. The next table to us also complained about it being cold and left their meals, The meat was the only thing that was eatable ..this pub is poorly run we went in at night for a drink only to find the bar staff talking at the end of the bar while we stood waiting to be served. The Manager and a Barman where having an argument over shifts with the Barman using the f word- this not good practice in front of customers and should be done in the office. At 9.30 over the next 3 nights visits, the Bar staff where cleaning the tables and putting chairs on them making you feel unwelcome, seeming like they can't get rid of you quick enough. You can understand why pubs are closing when run like this.

We visited this pub for Sunday lunch based on recommendations from local socials. On arrival there were very few staff about and no enticing smells from the kitchen which I thought was odd especially for Sunday. Our table was in the bar area as we had dogs which was fine. Two choices of meat for the roast which again we ok. The dinner itself - plate hadn’t been pre warmed so food wasn’t that hot. Potatoes were definitely aunt Bessie, as was stuffing ball and Yorkshire pudding. Vegetables were ok and although there were a few different veg, they were very tiny portions of it. Nice touch with the side dish of cauliflower cheese though. Wine was poor. Had a large Malbec which was very tangy and tasted like it had been open a while. Had to ask for horseradish sauce as no sauces offered with the meal. Probably ok for regular pub food but for a roast then The Sun Inn at Dorchester or The Fat Badger knocks spits of this. Staff pleasant.

Chicken burger £12:50 cold and small and not in a bun . Bought back in a bun , still cold so sent back and 15 minutes later it was replaced , and it was just a very dry chicken breast in a bun , a very plain burger with nothing in it . Sea bass £17:50 . The portion was very small and should have had crab meat in the mash in it none at all .

I had the Mediterranean linguine and it came out like a bland watery soup. Looked nothing like the picture at all. Unfortunately it tasted as bad as it looked and I had to chuck salt on it to make it taste of anything. Definitely no tomato pesto sauce as advertised it was the worst pasta dish I’d ever had. Even the waitress admitted I was the third person to complain about it that night. Wish I’d took a photo to show you how bad it was, chef clearly didn’t know what they were doing!

DONT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES! OR WANT QUALITY FOOD AND SERVICE! What a shame! I am coeliac which means I can’t eat gluten which was explained yet you bring me a meal with a Naan bread on despite explaining that I can’t eat gluten. That meal gets taken away and so do my poppadoms. I have always been ok with poppadoms as they are made from rice flour but apparently I can’t eat them. So I have a delayed service, a man who serves me to find out if I can eat poppadoms but never returns. Where did he go? And I am told by the man I complain to that “he’s not very good!” Like that makes it ok? And when I complain I am met with rudeness and being told I am in the wrong. Why should I pay full price for such shocking service . Food was pretty standard and tbh I could cook better than that, think Wetherspoons and not homemade. What a shame , especially rudeness from the staff member. That was very upsetting.

Came with family for Sunday dinner, table booked for 6pm with 8 of us, with 2 dogs. Arrived and it turned our our tables were already occupied, with 1 group through mid-drinks. We were moved to the restaurant part of the pub, which left us standing for a while. After being told to wait in a cramped location, while people watched the football, there were rude comments from some of the other customers watching football towards us, for complying with one of the staff asking us to wait. After around 10 minutes we finally got a table, where we were told there were no roasts, with some of us looking to have a Sunday roast before arrival. We ordered our food, which took around 40 minutes to arrive, not terrible for 8, however no staff coming to check if everything was ok when eating. Afterwards, we asked for the bill, where we were waiting for a good 20 minutes, leaving us all unimpressed.

Have been coming to this lovely little (ish) pub every year for the last 25 yrs when on annual holidays in Weymouth, Dorset. I have seen quite a few changes over the years as the place has undergone changes, (minor indoors, a bit more in the rear garden area). But it has obviously modernised keeping it's brilliant character intact. I would 200% recommend a visit to this cracking little pub. And to boot the food is absolutely lovely! (I'm not joking), especially their homemade beef & ale pie and mash. Hopefully the good lord allows me another visit next year... 🙏

Honestly cannot fault spice ship! They always go above and beyond. Even when they are extremely busy they try their best to make sure their customers are happy and informed, understandably waits for food do happen, but that’s always to be expected when booking food in a fast paced local pub! All the staff are lovely and have great relationships with the locals, and are a big part of the pubs atmosphere! We regularly use the pub for family meals and just general summer enjoyment and the kids love the small play park in the garden! They always put a lot of effort into events and live music and just generally have picked spice ship back up and put it back on the map! Jensen and his team really have put their heart and souls into it and it shows. Well done spice ship! Keep going!

## Spice Ship: Disappointing Experience Despite Potential The Spice Ship boasts a large and well-designed space, offering a lot of promise for a great pub experience. Unfortunately, our visit fell short in several areas. The food quality was underwhelming. While the menu might have variety, the actual dishes we received lacked quality. Customer service left a lot to be desired. The staff's behavior seemed immature and unprofessional. To top it off, the drinks seemed like short measures, and the explanations provided by the staff for this discrepancy were unconvincing. Overall, despite the pub's apparent potential, the combination of poor food quality, immature service, and questionable drink measures means we wouldn't recommend the Spice Ship and wouldn't be returning ourselves.

Had a lovely meal here on the Saturday so after walking to bowleaze Cove and back we called in for a drink on the Sunday at 7.10pm. The manager/owner proceeded to ring the bell, twice, loudly causing everyone to stare at me and my husband. He then informed us he wouldn't serve us as he was closing! How ridiculous. Anyway the pub over the road was happy to take our money. Such a shame as we were here for 2 weeks and would have used this pub a lot. Food was great, our servers were not :(. Firstly, our initial server was a little abrupt throughout taking the order & serving food and didn’t offer a roast menu. There was no drinks menu on the tables either and whilst I understand this is a pub, the ones by home have this out as standard. Food was good for the price but there was a long wait to clear the plates & an even longer wait to get the bill and then we still had to stand and wait to pay. I would not recommend, the food was below average. Staff inattentive to the point that pepper sauce did not arrive with the steak and went to bar to ask for it but still it did not arrive. Dietary requirements for one person tabke were not taken seriously and the food they could not eat eas scraped from their plate and returned to the table. The bench was not screwed down and completrly fell off 3 x causing toddler to hit head on the table. Whilst the manager apologised, I had a sense that this had happened before and is part of a general 'couldn't care less but will take your money thankyou very much' attitude. Good range of beers especially darker ales. Dark and dingey inside, in the evening can be very loud, staff do nothing with rowdy drunken customers even when asked, have witnessed many people leave due to loudness. Food not as good as other Wetherspoons often cold and poor attention to presentation.

This pub states that it is dog friendly but this couldn’t be further from the truth. My partner and I went in to the bar for a drink with our dog. Our dog was very well behaved until one of the locals approached him. He started to bark. He didn’t bark much but everyone in the bar started being nasty to us. Saying really nasty things. We only had a couple of sips of our drinks and we left. We were made to feel really uncomfortable. Bar staff didn’t do anything. I was really upset by this. Horrible, mean place. Don’t go there, especially if you have your four legged friend with you.
