comment_iconOpinions

The fish portion was exceptionally small for it to been deemed a 'regular' size in our opinion. Both our portions of fish would have made a regular sized fillet elsewhere. My partner jested he's had eaten bigger fish fingers and at how pleased he was that he hadn't ordered us both a smaller portion! It was more like chips with a side fish. We both felt ripped off at paying over £22 for 2 'regular' fish and chips, to receive a child's portion. Other than the size of the fish, it was cooked to perfection, thin crispy batter. The chips were not under cooked or soggy, nice and chunky, very few little, scrappy chips and they tasted really nice. Both members of staff were polite and very efficient.

Visited Weymouth for a day and I knew for a fact that coastal towns are seafood goldmines. So naturally went exploring some chippy shops and stumbled upon Jackson's. I'm not joking when I say this, the fish was EXQUISITE!!! Get the seafood basket so you can try the variety of shrimp, scampi and squid they offer and don't forget the fried cod. Loved it. They gave me a sweet chilly sauce as opposed to the tartar sauce and I felt the sweet and spice cut through the rich battery fish really well. Definitely a great spot to check out. Shabby likes this place and definitely plans to go back again, so go check it out cause SHABBY SAID SO!!!

It used to be the best fish in town, well not anymore. The breading was thick and oily, the fish was mushy and def not large. What made the portion large was the excessive breading. Even the chips were horrible. Not sure what oil they are using but it left a vile flavour on the chips. What a disappointment

Passed by with dogs and saw ‘Dogs Welcome’ sign so looked if was a table free. Not enough room inside for them to lie down and raining so had a take away. Small chips £2.50 (kids portion) chips £3.50 and jumbo battered sausage £2.50 gourmet pasties £4.95. Senior citizen special £9.95 small cod and chips with drink offer. Freshly cooked and looked nice in cardboard boxes. But alas pasties were very pale and not warmed up enough. Chips were all a bit hard/crisp. Ended up with roof of mouth being cut from them. Sorry all got reviews we didn’t get the same hot food.

Tried the first time. The coating was a bit thicker than expected and oily, the chips was fried possibly more than should be as all were to hard to eat. Generally was a good meal for lunch.

Let's start with the not so bad. The chips were ok, if a little expensive, and the mushy peas were ok, if a little expensive. A solid 3-star disappointment to be avoided in the future. But sometimes you need a really bad experience to remind you how much of a difference good customer service makes. Spent more than £40 feeding my hungry family of 6 - we're at the beach, of course it's more expensive than back home in London, I can live with that. But the "large" cod, which at my local chippy would mean "will feed 2-3 hungry people" turns out to be a single fillet of fish, perhaps enough for 1 person who's ready to snack throughout the afternoon. £9 feels too much for that. I double checked that I had, in fact, been given the large and showed the piece rattling around in the box, to be greeted with a defensive rant that each piece was weighed by the ounce and cooked to order. Again, at my local, which I'm feeling increasingly grateful for, a question about the size of a portion would lead to an instant cobbling together of a few extra pieces to apologise. Clearly this place doesn't rely on repeat business, they certainly won't be getting it from us and I'm astonished it has so many good reviews on here.

We live in Porthcawl and have many very good Fish & Chip shops including a favourite of mine. But…. This Fish and Chip shop was the best. Freshly cooked to order and the chips, cod and curry sauce were to perfection. The chips weren’t greasy. The cod was pure white and falling apart. The curry sauce was veggie and perfect – not spicy, just flavoursome. There was plenty of indoor seating and it was well ventilated. The staffs were friendly and very helpful. They had a good gluten free menu including batter.

Decided on Fish and Chips for our tea, takeaway so we could eat them in the car overlooking Bowleaze Cove. Young man served us was very polite. Everything was cooked while we waited, which we hadn't expected ( most fish and chips shops have everything ready prepared). Well worth the wait, still extremely hot when we got to the Cove. Fish just flaked away and tasted fantastic, the chips were perfect not too greasy and just the right amount of salt and vinegar. Thank you it was the best fish shop meal we have had in a long time.

Usually go here every year on holiday but they closed down last year. Came this year, and it's just not the same. The fish had been rushed, so it was still soggy under the batter, and the chips were all crunchy bits and the par were watered down. They forgot to bring my drink we had to ask for it. The only way its improved, you can now take your dogs inside

Such a lot to commend about Jackson's. Clean, smiles from the staff, dog friendly and that's before we get to the quality of the food. One of us requires Gluten Free food so when we saw the option clearly stated on the menu board, we knew it was a good start. The Cod was excellent, moist and fresh, the batter not too thick but nice and crunchy. The chips were the best we have had for a long time. We can highly recommend this fish restaurant. The menu offered a Seniors deal for £9.75 which included a very sizeable piece of cod in crispy batter cooked freshly to order and served with a good portion of excellent chips - nice n hot! The deal was served in a very attractive cardboard box with wooden cutlery There was also a hot drink included in the deal. I opted for tea and normally my heart sinks when I see tea served in a paper cup but I must say it was one of the best cups of tea I have had in ages. The fish and chip shop that we knew in Weymouth was now takeaway only, so we done a search on google maps and found this fish and chip shop. They had a few tables outside and also a couple inside opposite the counter, with a restaurant further up the stairs although that area was closed. I ordered the large cod and regular chips - the cod was fantastic, nice and chunky with good batter. The chips were also very good. My children and wife enjoyed their meals as well.
