This pub is the heart of the village, good real ale and a friendly atmosphere. Modern style, very clean and well kept. Live music and a good outdoor area. It's just a shame that the Royal is only open at weekend as I am sure it would get customers especially during the summer.

We have been going to the royal for years but the presence of a landlady that truly cares about the pub and the community is very refreshing. Annabelle in particular is made the pub, very welcoming and she would be a major loss. We are not locals but we have been made feel like we are. We will be back again for the great beer and pub atmosphere.

I have Visited this beautiful country pub quite a few times whilst staying locally for weekend breaks , and I have always been impressed with the friendly and welcoming staff , not to mention the scrumptious food … Today , was exceptional the staff were absolutely outstanding ,in dealing with an incident involving a member of the public who had fallen requiring medical intervention .. Shelly , Ann and the rest of the team were absolutely amazing in their quick response in dealing with incident .. They showed the upmost care , compassion and sensitivity and really did go above and beyond , nothing was too much trouble for them .. They stayed with the member of the public for two hours giving reassurance and making her as comfortable as possible until help arrived . . This place really is worth a visit if your in the area , food , hospitality, beer garden area and most importantly staff are absolute top notch .. 🙌🥰

6 of us stopped for lunch and sat at a table outside in the sunshine, whilst on a bike ride on Easter Sunday Menu is currently quite small, however just fitted the bill for what we wanted. Food was very tasty and the new manager, Naomi, very thoughtfully brought out an extra jug of iced water for our table. We wish you luck with your new venture and will certainly visit again

These guys were a welcome relief from some really awful service at the Silverdale Hotel just down the road! Didn’t need a booking to get some hot chips for our daughter, went out of their way to make us welcome & even though understaffed…they tried hard to make sure we left Silverdale much happier than we had left the Silverdale hotel! A couple behind us had also had the same awful customer experience at the Silverdale & it was great to see that as just 2 couples that were turned away we contributed circa £60 to a place that is welcoming & wants to make people feel that it is a great place to stop! WELL DONE to The Royal!

On a lovely sunny Easter afternoon we called at the newly re-opened Royal for a drink in the sunshine. We received a very warm welcome from the new manager, Naomi, who was happy to talk about her plans. This pub is central to the village and used to be the hub for people to meet, drink coffee, eat and generally socialise. It has been closed for far too long so it's a pleasure to see it open again. But, they need to open for morning coffee - the place used to buzz with friends, groups, tourists between 10 and 12 noon. And the menu needs to expand considerably, it's far too limited at present and we need a place serving tasty and interesting meals, right in the village centre. Good luck!

Lovely looking pub and nice peaceful place to sit outside in the sunshine. The website looks amazing and other reviews are great. Unfortunately we did not get to sample any food or drink because the staff did not come over to take the order. We left after 15 minutes of asking to order and after multiple tables were served/cleared around us. We would not usually mind waiting at all but it was not busy and at no point were we acknowledged re. the wait There are also very limited vegetarian options on the evening menu i.e. just pizza. While other businesses are using enterprise and initiative to reopen, the Royal remains cold and forlorn with doors firmly closed and with no indication of when it will be reopened by the well heeled Holgates empire. At least the seating out front was available for those eating the excellent takeaways from the independent food wagon parked outside the village hall at weekends, but the owner of the Royal has now removed the seating to prevent this which is pretty tacky to say the least. Please reopen. The village centre needs you.

I have visited several times over the winter and so far it has never failed. I may just have a single shot latte, big & milky just how I like them but have also eaten here on a few occasions. Their small bites menu can’t be faulted and I had to check my bill to see they hadn’t undercharged me. If I’m honest some staff have a natural customer flair more than others but I have never had any issues with any of them. I hope your business & staff can survive the lay off and look forward to visiting again as soon as you can open your doors.

Popped in for a coffee and some cake whilst on a walk. Not a great experience. Ordered two coffees, rocky road and a scone. Both had been around a while and were stale. Had to ask for butter with the scone which I was told would be brought out with the coffee... which arrived around 10-15 minutes later.. even on a quiet monday morning.. My daughter booked for Saturday afternoon yesterday as a belated Father’s Day meal for 4 adults and 4 children. Two of the adults ordered light bite lasagne. It was an embarrassment of a meal - not even half of a child’s portion. I was appalled. It was at most half an inch deep in a small square bowl with a piece of ‘bread’ which was just like a large crisp. I did speak to the waiter who’s said that’s the size it always is and he just said ‘ I can only apologise. I didn’t want to cause too much fuss as the meal was a treat from the family but to be honest it was a complete shambles. Daylight robbery in fact!!! Will NOT be back in a hurry!!!!

We stayed two nights, the pub is in a great location for some beautiful walks and surrounded by great local history too. Our room had everything you could ask for. Both James and Judith are lovely people and made us very welcome. The pub has a open fire, which makes it even cosier in the evenings. The food is all homemade by Judith and the breakfast is particularly outstanding, with all local ingredients.

The coffee and cake were lovely. The service was terrible ! As soon as I said what I wanted at the table, she came with the card machine, didn't have time to take my jacket off. I never like paying before I've seen the food or tried the coffee. The girl had a horrible attitude too! Lovely view, lovely coffee and cake but shame about the staff.
