The Royal Oak - JD Wetherspoon in West Dorset

Another day...another Wetherspoons. Not the most interesting of buildings but the prices are right ..as are the food and drink. No reason not to visit.

The food is always delicious and it always comes out very quick. The staff are incredibly nice and always checking in if the food is okay and helping you find recommendations for food. The atmosphere was like a nice happy pub.

Just popped in for a coffee. Place was clean, good atmosphere and friendly staff.

Not bad for a Wetherspoon. Not keen on their beer selection, but the Guiness is good and at a very reasonable price

They simply LOVE TO HURL the EMPTY bottles into the container with such vigor creating such a noise ...maybe it's in their training...the loudest gets the job

Nice and cosy place. Not a single issue at all with the place but food could have been warmer.

We've all been to one, its a highstreet pub that feels the same no matter what town they are in. This one is no better nor worse than all the other Spoons. Usual hike up a mountain of stairs to the toilets and table delivery if you use the App on your phone (however, the wifi in this establishment is a bit hit and miss, depending where you are sat). Staff seem good and you won't have to sell a kidney to enjoy an evening out.

Really good venue as the food and beer is incredibly cheap yet good.

Very good and quick service. Always very busy depending on times. You know what you are getting at weatherspoons and value for money. Free WiFi and toilets were pretty clean. The only problem I had was that it was so cold in there.

The interior is clean, modern enough and spacious, lots of seating and the layout is good. Staff are friendly and kind, and provide good levels of customer services. The food itself is actually pretty good for the price you pay and it makes eating out a lot more affordable. Toilets were clean, WiFi works well and the unlimited coffee is a huge bonus. Definitely a good place to eat in Dorchester.

Well! This is a Wetherspoons. You can't expect too much as far as atmosphere is concerned, but the service is quick, the food is hot and tasty, and the drinks are comparatively inexpensive. We often pop in for breakfast wraps. Highly recommended.

Spoons is definitely a good value and you know exactly what to expect when you order their food at any location. And they have the cheapest drink prices anywhere. I really like the Quorn Nugget wrap and Leffe Belgian beer. Staff have always been friendly each time I go, which has been for over 10 years.

Food cold, sent back and the second baked potato cold! How hard is it to microwave a potato???

Weatherspoons. Busy, standard food but fine

We had 2 X large breakfast. The toast on one plate was not toasted. The beans were stone cold, bacon cold, mushroom cold and sausage and egg was slightly warm. Was really bad. This is the second time this has happened so won't return. The Yeovil spoons is a lot better but further away. Also it wasn't very busy so I don't know how they got it so wrong. Table 31, maybe just an unlucky number ??? Oh at least the coffee was hit.

Stopped here for food and drinks after a day out in Dorchester. A pretty good Wetherspoons. Food was actually good. Service was ok. Just wish the pint glasses were cleaner. Overall an ok cheap place for food and drinks

Worst Wetherspoons i've been to so far. Rude, unbothered barstaff. Ordered Limoncello Spritz and they made with Limencello and Soda missing out the Prosecco completely until i noticed. Paid for extra chicken but came grey and hard so didn't eat it . Yummy-not

Not your usual Weatherspoon dossers hangout, staff are pleased to help, food looked hot and most people seemed to eat it, booze was well priced and didn't feel like some stranger was gonna put his arm round me and tell me that we're best mates

Don’t know what’s happened here! Used to be the best Wetherspoons around for food. Food was greasy and oily, portion sizes have massively reduced. The waitresses are really friendly however the manager (Ray) so I’m told needs to polish up on her customer service. Throwing filthy looks around at people is very off putting. Storming around the restaurant like an elephant with a massive wedgie. No one wants to look at your pants riding up your backside when you’re throwing back food, sort it out love.

It's Wetherspoons. The drinks are cheap and the food is cheap.

I was trying to enjoy a very nice meal with some of my business associates and ordered food and drinks from the app. The first bar tender that brought out the first drinks was very pleasant, but then a very skinny figure came out with some food as was very unpleasant and made a female I was with feel uncomfortable. The next bar tender was not very pleasant and when the next order of food came out by the same unpleasant fellow it was served like I was in a prison. Did not appreciate it. Very unhappy

This an ideal place to take my grandaughter. Staff are very friendly.

dirty tables, one person serving , ordered sirloin steak, hubby a double burger. Steak, well could have ran round the field again. 10chips and nothing else . Hubby's double burger,smaller than McDonald's!, the free drinks ?we had no idea, had to search bar for them. We left! went home had dinner. last ever time at a Wetherspoons.

Would have given five stars but to be honest there is always room for improvement and also having 5 stars often leads to complacency. The food was excellent along with the service and I also like the fact that you can have hot drink refils for free and only £1.56 for the first drink and it tastes great too. The pub is conveniently located in the main high street and the food is what I like. It is not pretentious and over priced. Just typical pub fayre. The only problem is trying to find somewhere to park the car on a busy market day. But don't let that put you off. We plan on coming back again soon.

Sunday was a disaster! From 11:45 until 12:00 the bar staff avoided being near the bar. Come closing time 6 people were patiently waiting to be served and we're refused. Requests were made to see the manager but no one would appear. Most of us are pretty discussed at the very poor service. Some are discussing not to come back!

Lovely pub, with great food and friendly staff.

It's a weatherspoons so you know what your getting. Good service here and always a good range of drinks to choose from.

Who doesn't love a good ol spoons? The food is good prices are unbeatable. The staff fly around cleaning and tidying up. It's clean and does a banging brekki.

Took my bike On the train.. And was pleasantly surprised Saw the rolling country Sheep in with dairy cows My grandfather being a Farmer. Would spend most of his Wednesday.. Doing deals in a public house Like this .. And the hot chocolate is cheaper and you Add your own milk. Compared too some fancy Barristers making pretty shapes,on the foamy ones I'm other establishments 30/ 10. And thankyou For warming Me up on a autumnal morning. Was going too visit the market. Done that ,taught me a lesson. Sold three toilet rolls £0.30.

Busy Wetherspoon pub in Dorchester. Didn.t eat this time but great value drinks, as always.

Food was very disappointing. Steak was mostly fat and the chicken burger fell apart. Not cheap anymore. Staff were miserable and the pub looked like it needed a deep clean especially the toilets which had no hot running water and a broken toilet cubicle.

One of the better Spoons. historic building, ask about the haunted spot. Had breakfast muffin with unlimited coffee for £3.99, don't know how they do it!

If I could of given 0 I would of, absolutely disgusting food, looked as if it be sat around for a month, didn't even eat it was that bad

Didn't eat apart from an ice cream but had a few drinks and the service was very good. Staff were very attentive, unlike other spoons where you're left sitting with lots of empty glasses and plates on your table, they were very happy to clear them as they walked past us.

Good food, easy to order, good price. Service with a bit of a scowl, even when bringing an incomplete drinks order. But I'd go again.

Quite dirty but that may not be a test of Kitchen hygiene. The food is popular at the price, as it is in all Wetherspoon pubs. Such a large turnover of customers must be an organising nightmare! The man who considered himself to be head barman, had a beard from which the dirt would have been difficult to scrape.

The manager, 24 yeah old boy, with a couldn’t care less attitude. These pictures are from the second time I requested edible salad on my meal and clean, free from limescale cutlery (a little would’ve been acceptable but it was absolutely coated, these pictures are from when we tried to wipe them after we got a second set from the manager). He thought this standard was acceptable, said the rocket was out of a fresh packet except the rocket I got was only slightly less slimy and rotten. Most of the leaves have rotted and wilted away. It’s all kids running this place now so there’s not even a standard to abide by. I’d be thought at least serving edible food would be rock bottom but it appears the bar is lower.

Spectacular ramen bowl at The Royal Oak. Absolutely delicious. The chef was clearly loving their work today!

Food was good and the beer was as you would expect

Quite busy, obviously very popular as other pub restaurants were almost empty. Food was good, service was exceptional. Young man was very helpful with my order and went on to draw me a map and give me directions, as we were new to the area. Thank you. Will definitely go again.

The waitress was quite snappy but it was understandable considering the state of the place. Builders everywhere. Right next to people having meals a man was digging at a wall. Not sure if that's normal??

Not a bad English breakfast, price is good and the coffee (purchased separately) is unlimited during your visit. Now personally, I enjoyed everything on the plate except the hash browns, which were unseasoned and a bit spongy. If I went again, I would sack them for either another egg or another slice of bacon. Also do be mindful of the servers - there is a lot of running around in this place. 🏃💨

Rough night with my farther at the hospital, brilliant breakfast cheered me up.

Love the food and Service, But the people around are always shouting or/and screaming, and don't leave. It's ANNOYING AS HELL.

Don't really east food at spoons but this one was realy good would highly recommend it, staff was realy nice especially guy called Liam was so helpful asked if I could have some more chips as portions seemed smal and he was more than happy to go back to kitchen and come out with a huge bowl of chips cheers bud :) I choose the mix grill meat was bit tough and no seasoning but was lovely

Rude slowly lady was arguntative and stomping about. And another male staff was rude. Frustrated staff were walking about non stop doing nothing. The food was the usual. Won't be returning

We dropped in for breakfast and found the service impeccable. The food was bought out fast, hot and freshly made. Prices really competitive and menu is standard across the weatherspoons group. It is a very popular here making it busy at peak times, however the staff cope very well. We found street parking at the front (chargeable) beer garden, customer toilets, lots of tables and seating. The only downside to our visit was it was very cold in the dining area. It was a wet an windy day and we were hoping to warm up over breakfast, but sadly it was just a bit to cold here. Tip, take a jumper 😎

Visited at breakfast time and in the evening and had food at both times. Food and drink are very good quality and value. Food was served quickly after ordering as were the drinks. Slight warning if you are having a curry from the curry club the naga chilli vindaloo is very hot and although I enjoy spicy food it was too hot for me and I had trouble finishing it.If you are in the area give this pub a try you won't regret it.

Another typical Wetherspoon, lovely old building with lots of charm. Good selection of beers, all well kept. Standard Wetherspoon menu but what we had was well cooked and hot.

Could do with more information for disabled entrance, we were unaware of the rear ramp, therefore the small front bar was the only option.
