Just returned from evening meal with family (7 Oct). 2 of us chose pork platter (special menu) which I anticipated to be a generous offering of pork fillet, sausage roll and black pudding - priced at £22. How disappointing- 2 pieces of mouth size fillets, a third of a sausage roll and a thin splattering of black pudding in the potato Rosti. It tasted nice and was well presented but feel totally ripped off with the meagre offering, I did inform a young waitress of my disappointment and asked her to relay my message to the chef. No apology, no feedback, nothing. We have had numerous family meals over many years and this was clearly sub-standard. The 3 other diners enjoyed their meals to provide balance. Perhaps the management team can consider and respond accordingly?

Food was a let down,, Very nice pub inside and service was good but our sunday roast was poor, hard overcooked potatoes, weird small pancake type of yorkshire pudding ,two small slices of beef, mine was gristly very disappointing and not good enough at nearly 20 pounds a head, won't be going back for a repeat do 'nt know how they can justify the cost of such a poor quality meal.

Absolutely superb! Been here over the years and it never disappoints. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Service is excellent. Food is top notch, you can tell the chefs and Kitchen team put pride into what they do. Great selection of drinks, the wine choice is superb. Always a good selection of ales too. The atmosphere is great, very traditional establishment and it feels very relaxed and homely. Can’t recommend enough! You won’t be disappointed!

Called in to the royal oak for lunch today, my wife and I both had the same thing home made steak and ale pie with chunky chips and gravy. We have been loyal customers for over 20 years and had this meal quite a few times, today was the worst ever over the years we have been going. The pastry on the pie was very hard and dry,it needed all the gravy in the jug to try to soften It the chips were also very dry and far too crisp and not fluffy inside like they used to be, we did eat it but it was the worst meal at what was our favourite go to restaurant, pity that Michael the main man was not around or I would have spoken to him about the downward trend in quality of the meals, last time we were there a couple of months ago we were also disappointed with the food. I am afraid my wife and I will not be returning to our most favourite place for the foreseeable future. Wake up and get your house back in order like it used to be.

From telephone booking a table to leaving the Royal Oak. Absolutely fantastic, every member of staff a credit to the business. Accommodated children, fussy eaters and food intolerant issues and most critical chef and catering and hospitality assistant. Portions were perfect and plates were presented beautifully. I wish I could say clean plates all round but that was down to the guests rather than the food. Will 100% be visiting again! Everything today was faultless thank you for a wonderful meal with fantastic service, you certainly have a business to be proud of!!

Overall the food was good , I had the roast beef which was sirloin , for 19 quid though and only 2 slices was a bit tight for the price and could have been hotter , gravy wasn't that nice either , anyway we had desserts which were good but my sister whom had ice cream was charged 55p for the sauce on it , I mean really guys, it's like charging for ketchup for chips, it's already expensive as it is , it was pretty quiet for a bank holiday and that's probably why , your shafting people , service was brilliant, great waitress , beer was £6.20 a pint and your charging add ons , on top of being expensive, that why it was quiet , the pub in brindle just before we got to you was heaving , couldn't get in, as a chef of 36 years and a hotelier I can with experience tell you to get your prices down before you fall , other than that your great

Quaint little place with a warm welcome. The food was absolutely delicious, he had a lovely duck parfait with onion marmalade and I had mushrooms on sourdough. Portions perfect. Presentation top notch. Then he battled through a hefty but tender steak and kidney pud whilst I opted for a delicious Lancashire cheese and onion pie, carefully crafted with beautiful shortcrust. Slight error in not recieving a menu (hungry as the smells of the food from other tables made us impatient) this was quickly rectified by the attentive manager and without any complaint a complimentary drink was delivered to the table. Highly recommend this little gem. Understandable why it is busy .

Our very very favourite restaurant until tonight we have brought friends and family from all over to dine here on our recommendations but todays Sunday roast was not good - hard roast potatoes that it was difficult to cut look warm vegetables a very hard Yorkshire pudding and wafer thin beef - we should’ve stuck to the steak and kidney pudding - this is so sad because we love the place snd food normally but we will think twice before coming back

Me and my wife had a fantastic meal at The Royal Oak on Sunday the 21st of January, I enjoyed the delicious steak and kidney pudding while my wife had the beef and ale pie I can’t recall what my friends ate but they enjoyed theirs also! The service was truly top notch, the waitresses and waiter were all lovely, really went out of their way. I’m not too sure on the (manager?) man that was mainly stood at the reception desk as he wasn’t doing much in our opinion anyways other than standing, aside from attempting to make comedic conversation with us (as personally we would rather be left to ourselves). Overall I would highly recommend the Royal Oak and would also highly recommend booking as we did, as it was extremely busy when we visited but I simply must preface this had no impact on our dutiful service from the waitresses.

I absolutely loved the Royal Oak and went with my family. We shared the goujon starter and two of us had the pie which was one of the best meat pies I have ever eaten out. The chips were lovely too. One of us had a vegetarian main and this was also fantastic. We all shared the sticky toffee pudding which would have made the Ritz proud! In addition the wine list was one of the most varied and best I have seen in terms of countries and I do eat out a lot. All the staff were delightful and I loved the ambience too. Very cosy pub serving great food. Well done and thank you to all. Keep up the great work. We will be back.

Gave the Royal Oak a try after reading positive reviews. The food was no better than average overall.Four tiny pieces of chewy squid served with guacamole hardly an auspicious start to an evening dinner. Steak and kidney pud, filling good but encased in a dry suet pastry.Small choice of deserts but good quality. Service was good and polite. After finishing the meal at 9.50 pm we decided to have one more drink but was advised the bar was now closed for the night and was presented with the bill. Needless to say a return visit is very unlikely.

We ordered a cook at home Valentine's dinner. It was sublime and a very good example of the chef's immense talent, especially when stepping away from the fare that makes up the menu in the pub. The prepped food was excellently packaged and looked fabulous before we cooked it. The instructions were clear and the overall delivery of the box was very nice. The food tasted amazing when we had cooked it. 6 courses for two - £80 for a very high end meal experience at home. We arrived at the pub at around 7 o’clock on a Wednesday night. A few tables were taken but the restaurant as a whole was pretty quiet. We were told by the RUDE manager that we would have to wait 20 minutes for a table. We decided to wait after rave reviews of family and friends so we got a drink in the bar. My husband then asked for some for menus to look over as we were waiting, which was refused by the manager who stated the menus were for the 7:15 reservations, however just 1 table of 4 came in at this time ! After 20 minutes the manager took us to our table (which was free when we arrived earlier ?!). After another 20 minutes of waiting the waitress took our order.... 10 minutes after this the table behind ordered too. To our surprise the table behind (that had ordered the exact same meals) received their food before us! We had to wait an additional 10 minutes for our food to arrive, which was okay but nothing to shout about. We were then asked if we’d like to look at the dessert menu which we accepted, after 15 minutes of waiting for them to come I had to ask the manager for them !! Very poor all round from all the staff ! Unimpressed with the dissatisfying service and will NOT RETURN.

We have been regular customers at the Royal Oak over the years & always had good service and meals . . . until yesterday (Tuesday) lunchtime. You expect three things when you enter a restaurant: to be given a table, a menu & offered drinks. So we were given a table in full sight of the lady in charge and were then ignored for ten minutes, at which point we got up and left. As we left, the lady offered the excuse that there was a problem with the gas in the kitchen. We couldn`t see how this affected the offer of menus and drinks.

Limited choice of dishes although the food is of good quality. Unfortunately the seafood pizza has been removed from the menu. Most dishes are overpriced especially the specials. The drinks are also overpriced with some being more expensive than in the Manchester city centre pubs.

Went to the Royal Oak for lunch with a friend yesterday (6/12/19). As soon as we walked in the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxing; the fires were lit, which added to the ambiance. As for the food! The food was ‘exceptional’! We both had the turkey dinner. Both presentation and taste...wow! The staff were really friendly and not pushy. I would highly recommend eating here.

Recently visited and had probably the best roast beef Sunday lunch this year. Hard to fault really and combined with efficient friendly service it made for a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

My wife and had been before to this well organised and nicely furnished Pub on the outskirts of Blackburn. But this was a visit without booking. Good car parking . As soon as we stepped in side we are greeted by a friendly receptionist and found a table for two and left a menu. We ordered a drink - an excellent Merlot and a pint of the local beer Thwaites Bitter. My wife ordered Steak and Ale Pie with Red Cabbage and French Fries with a small jug of gravy - one of the best pies with good pastry and full of rich tasting Steak and Ale. I ordered a bowl of Mushroom Soup with Truffle Oil - a good sized bowl with soup which was so smooth and tasty. Then I followed the soup with a starter size portion of a menu "special" - Harrissa Spiced King Prawns with Red Lentil Daal and cinnamon flat bread - it was just delicious full of of the lightly spiced flavour . We just had room left to share a pudding - one of the best ever Vanilla Creme Brulee with fresh Raspberries and a scoop of Raspberry Ripple Ice Cream. The cost of all our food and drink was just £42-15p which we thought was excellent value and our very friendly waitress received a well deserved tip. We will certainly be going again.

Visited today with family, very very busy I would definitely advise you to book. Lots of staff available to serve you drinks and food. Very nice layout your not all on top of each other. Very clean. Good choice of starters, mains and sweets on the menu and specials board far to many to mention. Excellent variety of cold and hot drinks. 2 good size car parks one on the front at the side the other at the back of the pub. The only thing was the lighting was very low/dim, it didn't affect me but my father in law is partial sighted and he struggled but wouldn't let me say anything as he doesn't like a fuss. I would definitely go back.

We went for lunch yesterday for a 92nd birthday treat for my Mum, and it was lovely. The food is beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. No corners cut, each dish had all the perfect accompaniments. I had the cod with garlic and prawn sauce which came with a mixture of green vegetables, not too much or too little. The other two meals looked lovely, steak and ale pie, and steak and kidney pudding. I had a couple of chips from one of them which weren’t flabby or greasy, just right. The desserts were fantastic. Creme brûlée had poached plums, ice cream and mango coulis, and my Mum’s passion fruit pannacotta had ice cream and honeycomb. The service was friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere cosy and comfortable. We’ll be back I hope.

Popped in last night with my brother and my dad. Superb staff attention and friendliness from the start. Ordered a very good bitter called gold. The food was, as it always is there, excellent. A little on a pricy side perhaps? but I think that’s what you pay to sit in a nice warm pub with great staff and outstanding fresh food. My lamb shank was dreamy. Been going for years in its various guises but these guys are nailing it. Long may it continue. A special mention to our waitress, who was funny and charming, but took extra care and patience with my dad who is 86 and when the world is spinning a little too fast for him these days, little things like that go a long way. Thanks x

Went for Sunday lunch and as it was late in the day we quickly ordered Sunday lunch and drinks all on a tab. We got our meals which were roast beef Sunday dinner. Usual Sunday roast ....rare beef 2 slices roast potatoes, broccoli, parsnips and cauliflower. Standard roast dinner but for £14.95 was over priced for a pub meal. I had a 250ml (large) glass of Pinot grigio £7.95!! A bit steep, I would say more restaurant prices but in a pub. I wouldn't visit again as prices too high, other local pubs with food just as good for less £

Really enjoyed lunch at the Royal Oak. Had meals at various establishments and been very disappointed, had come to the conclusion it was better to stay at home!! However, we thoroughly enjoyed the eating experience at the Royal Oak, loved the ambience, the welcoming and attentive staff and the quality of the food chosen from a superb menu. Worth paying the extra few pounds for good quality food.

Four of us visited the Royal Oak after a sad family event, for a lunch together. We were given a warm welcome and sat at a lovely table in the window. The food was delicious and two of us had the fresh cod special, the other two ate off the menu. All the food was very well prepared and served piping hot. The quality of the ingredients was excellent. The two ladies who served us were very pleasant and efficient. We have eaten here before and will again. Thank you for making a sad day much better.

Disappointing service last Saturday here. We walked into the bar to order and there was a female behind the bar drying glasses, she saw us but did not move to serve us. I had to approach her to ask for the menu. We then went back to the bar to order the food. This time it was another staff member, in all honesty she looked like she didn't care whether she served us or not. Quite a surly unapproachable attitude, made us feel like she was doing us a favour. The food was ok but vastly overpriced for what we had, certainly not worth it. Customers will not return if the staff do not up their game.

Visited on a Monday, food not to same standard as believe owner/chef has got another restaurant. The staff were slow in taking order and removing plates, girl passed our table twice after delivering food to another table,.young man from bar brought drinks to a near by table did not ask if we wanted more or did not remove plates. Mains were removed but not asked did we want a sweet, we had to catch her attention, we chose our sweets and waited and waited. In the end we got up and paid, our dinning experiance was not good as a child of about 3 was leading an Australian Ridgeback ( for readers who do not know this is a big dog its head is table height) no control and was around when eating. Getting in the way of serving staff Mother kept telling her but child paid no attention , they then took lead off her she then started screaming loudly so they gave her the lead back.

We have eaten here several times, our friends who we were with on Saturday evening, had even been for lunch on the Tuesday as the food is so good and the specials menu is as good as any restaurant and in many cases better. Two of us had one of the fish specials, Hake and the other two of us rib eye steak which was cooked perfectly followed by a lovely creme brulee. Recommend you book in advance so as not to be disappointed.

From the minute we walked in we were put at ease. We were offered two different areas of the restaurant a quiet one and a slightly rounder one where there were some bottomless brunch going on . Opted for the more atmospheric side and they picked us a perfect table . The evening we were served by Matthew, Max and Alesia. I’m a pretty fussy eater, but no matter what we asked for a little tweets here and there to the menu everything was done without a fuss. The food was lovely, and I can’t wait to go back. Our first visit and it won’t be our last. The manager was lovely also . We had gammon and carbonara with a garlic tomato and cheese bread to Start . All was perfect .

Which if you are wondering it means Oh Mamma what great value for money! My last review of this place was several years ago and I think it was 5 stars then. It’s not changed for me. We called in on an off chance at around 6pm on a Saturday evening. The place was busy and we didn’t hold much hope. Thankfully the lady front of house, I think she owns it and I remember her from last time we were there many years ago, kindly squeezed us in provided we were done in an hour. Perfect for us as we only wanted a quick bite. We ordered an Etna pizza and Ndjua pasta. I was DES so the mrs had a glass of house red and I stuck on the corporations pop. The food was awesome and service quick and polite full. What we didn’t realise was that we had snuck in on the pizza and pasta offer and the bill came to…………£20! You’d pay more eating at Maccas! Keep up the great work and don’t believe some of the recent reviews that get 1 star because they can’t split the bill for some grey army! But if people choose not to go then that’s fine by me. It’s a great local restaurant that won’t be as busy so we can enjoy it. Recommended.
