The Royal Oak in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Visiting on holiday, we popped in on Friday evening to check the pub out. It was very busy and on chatting to some locals about the food, we decided to book Sunday lunch. We were not disappointed at all, as the food was great and the warm, friendly service was even better. We will visit again, when we're next here. A friendly, vibrant, popular local pub, with good food

Just had lunch here for the first time it was lovely the food was perfect and staff were very smiley and very helpful. We shall be back regularly in future

If you're not part of this pubs "club" - don't bother coming here. Walked in smiling saying hi; no hello, no smiles, no greetings in return. I've never experienced such cold and horrid looks when walking into an establishment before. You know when someone looks you up and down judging you, that's exactly how it was. Bought a drink and quickly took it outside as I didn't want to stay in an environment like that. I went back a few months later because I didn't want to assume that's how they always run their business but yes, got treated the same way the second time. It's quite humiliating actually. I've asked friends and family what they think and they've all had similar unwelcoming experiences and haven't been back in years. This pub is nothing more than a snobby hang out for the locals. Shame because the pub itself is beautiful. There are plenty of lovely friendly pubs near Perranwell and in Cornwall, there are absolutely zero reasons to choose this one.

Rude owner/manager shouted at us then proceeded to snatch pint out of my hands after I had paid for it and wouldn’t return it.

Stopped here on the way into deepest Cornwall. I'm so glad we did, as the service was superb. Warmly welcomed and sat at a table with the dog. Drinks arrived, and food was ordered. My wife had liver and bacon whilst I had a steak, smoked bacon with baby onions pie and chips. Both our meals arrived quickly. The chips were some of the best I have ever had, and the pie again was one of the best and most filling My wife was very happy with her meal too. All in all it was very satisfactory and a place we will certainly stop at again.

It's a very nice pub. Large car park with plenty of space inside and out. Dog friendly.

A welcoming village pub with good beer, wine and food. Quite a wide menu with local and seasonal produce. Good portions and reasonable prices. Would go back!

Came in for a roast on Sunday, it was pretty tasty but they didn't mention the beans would be covered in dairy. Other than that it was pretty good :)

Steak is good but is nothing special without peppercorn sauce. Banoffee Pie, on the other hand, is excellent. Yes, made to perfection.

Fabulous ! Lovely old traditional pub serving first class food and a very good selection of well kept real ales. Very friendly efficient staff and very pleasant local people. We ate twice in a week after finding it while on holiday.

Nice staff and atmosphere. Food was nice but expensive and portions were on the small side.

I would love to say I didn't like the food, or the atmosphere, but sadly I didn't get to. I walked in after someone acknowledged me I asked if they were dog friendly. The woman looked pissed off I had asked and said 'Well if they are well behaved', I replied my dog is and she said she could sit is in the middle table. She then asked the size and I said 'husky'. This prompted an actual sigh and 'Well if they sit under the table and out of the walkway that should be ok'. So I left. If your pub is SO busy (it wasn't) then you can say 'We can't accomodate dogs' and I would have been fine. Instead she seemed to want to find a reason not to have me in with a dog. My dog is quiet,trained and lies down and sleeps when I go to a pub, but for this woman it was clearly an issue. I ended up going elsewhere, with the staff smiling at my dog, finding us a suitable table and not making us a problem. I wonder if she was as annoyed at the kids running around the tables screaming...

The above grades says it all, going back there again on Friay

We visit for the monthly quiz (first Tuesday - highly recommended but must book) and the "quizzers curry" and occasionally drop in when on a walk. Lovely traditional pub with good food, a warm welcome and excellent wine list.

We had an amazing Sunday roast for a family birthday - one of the best we have had. Lovely friendly staff and a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Great for a lovely local pub drink and dinner. A good range of wine and beers, interesting menu selection with specials and a few long standing favourites. Relaxed ambiance and some very attentive service for both our food and drinks orders. Always a good evening out!

Amazing homemade food with a classic old school cornish pub vibe.

A lovely pub! Food was fab! Staff were very efficient and friendly. Doggie friendly too! We didn't book and got the last table only 15 minutes before food service began so would advise booking. The Fig and Damson Gin Trifle was delicious!

We were looking for a place to have dinner and we were lucky enough to come across The Royal Oak, and although the restaurant was full, they seated us at a table super quickly. Delicious food, and unbeatable service. Special mention to the fish and chips and the desserts, especially the sticky toffee pudding, we thought it was incredible. Many thanks for everything.

We loved it - food excellent- atmosphere lovely - most staff wonderful and friendly but under pressure one particular staff member was a little off the mark sadly. But guess she had a bad day like most of us from time to time 😀

I went to this pub on a Wednesday thinking it would be quite not so, it was packed which is always a good sign so pre-book. The food was great and there was plenty to choose from the menu and specials board. Definitely worth a visit.

Had Sunday roast here yesterday, food was very good and tasty. Went with 2 friends and had a pudding each and it came to just over £21 per head which I thought was good value, staff very friendly and welcoming. I would like to go again but live miles away but hope to when in Truro again.

This is an awesome pub, for locals and visitors alike. Proper pub with proper beer.

All 3 of us very much enjoyed our meal comprising of main course and pudding. I had the rice pudding which was delicious.

3 course meal and drinks £37, a lot more than before brexit but about average now. Good value as good size portions and plenty of veg. Chairs are sadly uncomfortable.

A wonderful place, great food and some smaller meals which were just the right size for myself and my husband. Wide choice of menu and a delicious mixed fruit crumble which I shared, well not much of it! Our first visit but certainly not the last. Staff very friendly and helpful.

We visited this establishment to have an evening meal. There was a great choice, and this included a vegetarian option for my wife, which isn't usually the case. The children were catered for also, and even my to fuss pot children were happy with their dishes. The staff were extremely helpful, friendly, and polite, and they answered our many questions without hesitation and even offered their opinions regarding our questions. We actually left wishing we live nearer to this place as we would return without hesitation.

Small friendly village pub with outdoor tables. A range of local ales, and a varied menu with vegi and vegan options. A selection of seafood dishes looked enticing, but we enjoyed the steak pie and the chicken stroganoff, served with a variety of local vegetables. Treacle tart and baked cheesecake to finish. Indoor tables fill up early , so book in advance, or sit outside on warm evening.

We went twice while staying in the area. The food is fantastic and nicely presented. We can really recommend the steak and ale pie, crab salad and the fish and chips. Also very friendly staff.

Just what pub food ought to be - plenty of choice and not expensive - service with warmth and a smile - what more might one ask for!

We are on holiday staying in the village of Perranwell Station for a week. We frequently visit local establishments when on holiday and have experienced good, honest, tasty food. Wow, this establishment exceeded our expectations, fantastic food, so tasty and spoilt for choice from the menu and the specials board with an excellent customer focussed service, even better when it’s a short walk home. We shall be visiting again. Well done Royal Oak keep up the good work.

Fantastic food at a great little pub. First visit down there despite living in Cornwall all my life. Recommended to go back and try Sunday roast which we will definitely be doing. I had the cottage pie and my partner smoked haddock ,poached egg and dauphinoise potatoes both delicious.

I enjoyed every mouthful of every corse. It was a reunion of 30 yrs ago which made it even more special. Thank you

Called in for lunch yesterday, the staff were very welcoming and the food was very good.

It's a small friendly pub with great staff. It's advised that you book as the dining area is quite compact. The food is superbly cooked and well presented. There is also a decent range of drinks. Had a lovely sirloin, and the garlic bread comes highly recommended 👌

Quant and proper old pub, visited at lunch time and it was very busy, suggest you book if you're eating.

Small country pub. Easy parking. Penzance Brewery ales on handpump. Good food menu with choice of veg included. Extremely helpful and pleasant service. Good value for good quality. Recommended.

This is a lovely pub in the centre of a lovely village. It is clearly very popular even at lunchtimes mid-week so booking is recommended. There is a car park adjacent to the pub but if full then there is roadside parking. The pub has lots of character and the staff are very welcoming. The menu on their website was up-to-date and there is also a 'specials' board with many other tempting options. I had the scallops with chorizo in a creamy sauce as a starter and it was amazing. My wife and I went for the medley of fillets of simply grilled fish for our mains. They were served with seasonal vegetables and a choice of potatoes. I had the Dauphinoise potatoes which which as also delicious. This pub is a little off the beaten track but the quality of food and service ensures that this pub will always be busy and I'm sure that it is also well serviced by the local village. Fantastic!! We shall be returning.

Grumpy staff. Village pub, local to me, with a nice garden. I pop in every few months hoping that things have improved, but always find the staff to be grumpy and unwelcoming, and I'm therefore reminded why I don't come here more often!
