The Fish House Fistral in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We booked this restaurant for a birthday and it made our evening. The staff, decor and food gave off a professional vibe, everything worked, no one was fumbling, the staff were perfect and the food was tremendous with both lots of different choices, a wonderful flavour and a great selection of fresh fish. What I really liked. No salt and pepper on the table, no service charge, no option to tip. This restaurant knows what they're doing and they're excellent at it. 10/10. Can't recommend enough.

Queued to get in at 7PM on a weekday. Well worth the wait, gratis cockles worth £6-10 once seated with a delightful sea view. Had 2 lots of Cod fish & chips, washed down with a berry cider & glass of white wine. Staff were attentive & efficient, and I wish there was a Rick Stein near me.

I don't think the quality nor taste of the food can be bettered, certainly not in Newquay. A real treat dinner out with stunning views and whilst a very 'up market' restaurant, not one hint of feeling unwelcome or uncomfortable - £95 for two huge sharing platters and a bottle of wine was very good value for money in my opinion.

Absolutely superb! I was literally left dreaming about the cod and seabass tacos after having them. The food genuinely deserves a Michelin star. The staff were also attentive and accommodating. 10/10 - I fully recommend.

I told the chef it was the best monkfish ever but in reality I think it was the best fish dish I’ve had in my life (I had one of the specials - Tandoori monkfish with yogurt, cucumber salad with chilli, Dahl and jasmine rice with crispy onions). Absolutely delicious! My husband had the prawn curry from the set menu and was equally delighted. The seasoning of their dishes is perfect resulting in a dance of flavours in your mouth. I advise you book in advance as we didn’t and we almost left Newquay without having this amazing experience. Definitely a must now every time we visit. The staff is also very friendly and welcoming, thank you very much!

Fabulous restaurant, we had the hake special which was delicious, great service and atmosphere. Really pleased that we got booked in.

Wow, easily top 5 seafood restaurants in Cornwall. l visited on Monday evening 16/9/2024 with my wife and 14 month old daughter. Front of house Attention to detail was spot on even though the restaurant was full ,tables were setup flawlessly, glasses perfectly clean with no water marks or smells from the dish washer. Service was quick without making you feel rushed. Staff were extremely polite and professional and even when busy, tried their best to interact with the guests and make them feel relaxed and very welcome, which I loved. My wife ordered the mussels for her starter which came with warm focaccia. Extremely fresh and perfectly cooked, you could tell just from the aroma of the mussels that the chef who made them new what he was doing don't even get me started on the bread. For me I had the Indian fish curry for starter and the Sri Lankan prawn curry as a main. I thought, let me see where there Curries will take me having worked at Taj London for 3+ years running their fine dining Indian restaurant there at the time and i was very pleased especially with the freshly grated coconut. it really helps the curry along so much more than using just a paste. Every element of both dishes were very thought out and attention to detail was put in to make it all work and come together wonderfully . My wife's main was the pan fried sea bass and that's when I turned to her and said that: from the ground up it's very important to do your best with every ingredient you've been given, no matter how good a head chef is, knowledge and skills, at the end of the day it's when every element of the team every part cares and tries to produce perfection that you truly have something. that is the definition of that dish so simple but perfectly done in every way from the potatoes to the crispy skin on the sea bass, beautiful. I could go on and on how good everything was. Overall the whole experience front of house to the back 10/10 Now me and my wife have been working in the hospitality industry for nearly 18 years me as a chef in the top 3 restaurants in the world as well as 5* hotels, private member's clubs and Michelin star restaurants and my wife the F&B manager of top 5* hotels and Michelin star restaurants. Sadly, I tried to book another dinner again for the end of that week but no availability and so my vacation came to an end Big thanks to the whole team

Booking in advance is a must, as you don't want to miss out. We got a sharing platter for 2, calamari and Greek salad, bread with oil, hand cut chips, and crushed potatoes with comfy garlic. My mum finished with a caramel sundae, my husband a chocolate brownie and I had an affogato. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and the staff are brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. But honestly, everything looked so good, and I can't wait to go back.

One of my favourite meals I’ve ever had. From starters through to the dessert it was all absolutely delicious. Visited here myself and was never rushed to order or to leave, allowed to sit and have some wine after the meal too and was never overly bothered by the staff at any point. The starter especially, the Korean monkfish, was incredible and would thoroughly recommend. The restaurant is maybe a bit above average in terms of price but it was all absolutely worth it and the next time I’m visiting Cornwall I’ll be sure to come back again.

We got the roasted hot shell- a must try, and the monk fish.. portions are really generous and the food is so flavourful and fresh. Good value for money.. and very friendly service as well.

Outstanding. We ate on a busy Thursday evening. Our waitress was fabulous and knowledgeable. Everything from the service to the incredible food menu made this a perfect meal. We have eaten here a few times and give it 10/10 and highly recommend. Thanks so much for a great evening, we will be back x

Possibly one of the greatest meals that I have ever had. Staff were incredible, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Food was absolutely out of this world. The view is also worth the money! If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would be doing, and I only wished that I lived closer so I could go regularly. If you’re in the area it’s a must!

tried to make a reservation for 1 person and they were completely booked. Called immediately afterwards for two people and there was room. avoid this restaurant as much as possible with this kind of practices!!!!!

I came here following the Michelin recommendation, but the hostess made me feel extremely unwelcome. She refused to acknowledge their booking mistake and showed no willingness to help. I haven’t encountered such poor service in years. If this is what Michelin recommends, it must be a joke.

Booked a lunchtime table here. We were lucky to book only a day before would definitely recommend booking several days in advance. The food was excellent and the portion are generous. Price point was very reasonable I've paidway more for alot worse. If you're in the area definitely worth a visit.

We were quite disappointed with our visit due to the staff’s attitude, which was rather unpleasant. While the food was delicious, the service was lacking and left us feeling unwelcome.

From the moment we arrived, such a lovely warm welcome by the front of house ! This is our favourite seafood restaurant and it never disappoints. We have several favourites on the menu, but today we both decided to order from the specials board. Skewered prawns in garlic butter, on a sour dough crouton sitting on a bed of mixed tomato salsa - Absolutely delicious Then for our mains - Whole Newquay bay lobster with a seafood sauce, served with a mixed salad and fries. The lobsters, were simply amazing !! Superb food, prepared and served by a great team. I’d also like to thank the whole team for making our wedding anniversary lunch so special.

Lovely food and cheerful waiting staff. We needed to remind them a couple of times about wine and one of the dishes but they were apologetic.

My wife and I visited while on holiday visiting parents, we are down every year and the one restaurant I also want to book is the Fish House and they did not disappoint at all on this occasion. Great service, fantastic flavours from all dishes we ordered, we did book another restaurant a couple of days later, I just wish we had booked the Fish House again!!! Thanks to all at the Fish House for a fantastic evening.

We loved the fish house! It has an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs preparing your food. Our waitress was brilliant and the views of the bay were spectacular. The linguine was loaded with seafood and the shared platter had a bit of everything. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Newquay.

I had a fantastic lunch at The Fish House Fistral, located right by the sea. The view was breathtaking, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The food was fresh and flavorful, perfectly complementing the ocean breeze. The staff was attentive and welcoming. It’s the perfect spot for a peaceful seaside lunch or dinner. Highly recommend!

A great shame, this used to be my favourite place in the UK for seafood but has unfortunately gone downhill recently based on my recent visit. The seafood sharing platter for starters used to be absolutely incredible, with loads of focaccia, prawns covered in cinnamon sugar, crab cakes, etc. Now it is pretty much 80% calamari, and with only two slices of focaccia so you have to order another side of this. For more than the price of a main you can't help but feel hard done by, as although the calamari is nice it's undoubtedly a cheaper option to bulk out the dish. I had the fish curry for mains. The prawn curry I had previously was amazing, bursting with flavour. However the fish curry was disappointingly bland and lacking in spice or distinctive flavour. The prawn linguini was too oily and not as good as Moules & Co in town. The hake was a bit overdone/chewy and not very exciting. We passed on desserts as they looked overpriced (£12 for a sundae). Make no doubt about it, I absolutely loved this place, it was a highlight of coming to Newquay. If it was reasonably priced it would be a great restaurant. However for an expensive meal you really expect something special, and unfortunately the Fish House doesn't deliver that any more.

Every time I come home it’s a 5 star experience!

Great place with tasty food and beautiful view of the beach. We walked in without reservation and were able to sit outside, the service was very friendly. We had sharing seafood platter and crab sandwiches, it was very good!

Food and service was great. Location great. Just overpriced which discouraged a big order. We got a drink n starter for just under 30 each!

We eventually managed to get in after a few days of trying. Both food and service were top notch. We noticed that there is a steak option on the menu for anyone who isn't a fish or seafood lover. Four people ate and drank well ( with wine ) for a little over a hundred quid.

It has lovely food and despite liking the service up until the end of the meal , we didn’t appreciate the comment at the end of the meal, to leave the table by a certain time when it was very clear that my husband would have finished his beer in time to clear the table by the allotted time. It was just unnecessary and affected our enjoyment. 2.5 hours are enough for us as a family to eat but the facts are , my family having to visit the public toilets because yours were out of order and the slow delivery of courses = our late finish. We ate dinner the following day and finished 3 courses in under 2hours. You cannot argue the need for time to cook a good meal and in the same breath expect a family with young kids to be out quickly. We appreciated your move of our table the to outside, but we did not need to be told when to leave, just bring the bill. This is what ruined our experience. This is our experience and this is our review, but we’d appreciate not having the restaurant manager lying on tripadvisor and claiming I had said I had not enjoyed my day. Don’t add your interpretation. I understand you want to defend your business , but be honest. Don’t lie to add bias to your response. Me commenting on my kids bickering before I came in the door does not equal a bad day. This is daily mum life 🤷🏻‍♀️. Don’t be one of those women, also acknowledge, you were no where to be seen when this interaction that we didn’t appreciate happened with your staff. If you did witness this from afar, as someone with such a voice for the Fish House, where were you?!! Stick to the things you have witnessed and keep to the facts, and people visiting will also make their own mind up. It’s worth noting before this time we have rated the Fish House as 5 stars, but this was not our experience this time.

Food, cocktails, staff and location are all 10/10. One of those restaurants that isn’t trying to be too fancy and fussy with their food, they just cook really good quality food and keep it interesting with different types of dishes. Had a gin bomb cocktail to start which had blood orange sorbet inside, so so good. Food highlights were the Bajan hake, skewered monkfish, roasted hake and prawn linguine.

Fantastic afternoon spent at the Fish House. Excellent friendly service, delicious fish. Will define back and highly recommend.

We booked ages ago before our holiday. On a couple of occasions I contacted them and got a quick response. Six of us, and we had two Roasted Hotshells plus a Lobster. Also, a tempura cod stir fry. Absolutely stunning food, service and also a window table with that great view over fistral beach. Our server was really attentive and helpful putting the two hot shells and Lobster onto a single huge platter. It’s about as good a lunch as you could dream of and, in my view, great value for money. Gorgeous.

Lunch. With a beautiful view of Fistral Beach. We have been wanting to dine here for years. On numerous visits to the beach we had never managed to get in. Either we were too early or too late. Or the biggest stumbling block,they were fully booked. This time we made sure to make a reservation. . On arrival we were seated outside on the terrace with our two doggies.The weather wasn't great and turned a little windy and overcast. Luckily a table inside had come free,so we moved inside. They specialise in,you've guessed it,well the name gives it away. The menu is perfect for seafood lovers and the choices are mesmerizing. Shall we just have a taster? or go all-in. . Yes we went for it.How could we resist as it took us so long to actually get to this stage. We started with three plates, Scallops obviously. Korean fried monkfish,oh my word this was so sticky and delicious.You can have this dish as a main too,but if you did that, it would probably defeat you. Off the specials board Skewered Tiger Prawns. We'll just let the pic of them do the talking. For mains Crab and tiger prawn linguine with chilli, garlic, white wine, cherry tomatoes and pangrattato. Another special off the board a lovely Fillet of Halibut served with new potatoes. Everything was cooked fresh to order and well worth the wait. We were absolutely stuffed and lets just say we didn't have dinner later.

Food not that great but a over charged just because of good position around the sea with nice waves , well we as costumers need good quality of food if we pay for it!!

Absolutely spectacular place. Food stunning. One of those places I'd give a 6th star to. The views over Fistral Bay are beautiful. The service was exemplary. Friendly, happy, plenty of time between courses. Food on another level. Fish Tacos and Squid were fantastic to start. Sean Bass and Roasted Hake mains were beautiful. Fish cookery of the highest level. Even snuck a Butterscotch Sundae pudding in which was divine, though made the walk up the hill back into Newquay a bit tougher than it should have been. Book a table here if you love seafood with a view, in a relaxed welcoming environment. I feel like selling up, moving to Newquay and coming here for the specials every day!

We booked at the last minute and were accommodated outside with heaters and blankets for warmth. The food was the best we’d ever eaten in a restaurant, so much so we’ve booked again for Friday. The service was first class, nothing was too much trouble. We highly recommend - don’t come to Cornwall without trying The Fish House, you won’t be disappointed.

Probably the best lunch I have eaten in a long time. Excellent produce and very well cooked. 10/10. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and would come back to Newquay for this restaurant.

Bit disappointed by the Fish House, which may have been because our friend who lives locally has raved about it. The location is great, the place looks good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food, however, was a bit average. I had the Korean fried monkfish starter, which had far too much dressing on the salad, and on the fish, completely masked the taste of the monkfish. Me and my partner shared a lobster, and the roasted hot shell. The lobster was OK, but nothing special and a bit dry and a bit small. The scallops were nice, but the prawns were also dry, and the mussels tasted like they had been reheated.

Fantastic restaurant. The food is exceptional and a big shout out to Sam who looked after us on our visit and made our anniversary celebrations top class.

Found this place after a hard day surfing. Fantastic seafood and a fantastic sunset view to eat it with. Nice wine list. The fish is perfect, they make absolutely lovely chips. How many times do you get a disappointing chip - not here, they understand the science of frying!! Seafood platter will not disappoint. It’s small and always full so that’s tells its own story. Knocks Rick stein for six, we were robbed there! Their mussels are the best I have ever had and I have eaten a lot of mussels. Look at that surf

Charming little place. This restaurant is small but amazing with fantastic views of the ocean. Walked in and was greeted and shown to our table, the waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable on the menu and specials. Had the open scallops to start, they were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing with the crisp ham giving it a nice crunch texture. Had the roast hotshell for the main, with a side of fries, only ordered the small bit it was plenty big enough. Everything was fresh and well cooked. To finish I had the pavlova, strawberries had a lovely crunch to them, the meringue and a nice chew and the clotted cream give it a nice touch of dairy, perfect.

The food here is so fresh and tasty! Staff are great and they're super chilled about having your dog there. Nice vibes and music in there too! Would highly recommend 👌

Very pleasant staff. Very fresh seafood. A very nice experience overall. Wish there was a bit more variety like oysters, clams, grilled fish, but to be honest what they are doing they are doing great, so I really can't complain. Recommend the hotplate to share.

Cozy little restaurant by the beach, lovely location and amazing food! Shame you have to pay for parking, would be good for paying customers to be excused. Some of the best seafood we've ever had. Recommend the sea bass and linguine, reasonably priced. Recommend!

Lovely and creative food. Service is the best part!

I ordered curry fish and received raw fish. When I told the waitress, after consulting the chef, I received an answer that this piece was located near the belly of the fish and that's why it was hard and not raw. I thanked her politely, but I work in a restaurant and I know that such a thing is unacceptable for me. the chef couldn't admit his mistake and came up with an absurd answer for me 😂 I wouldn't come back just because he treated me like that, I didn't expect a refund but an apology was enough

Dropped in unannounced off the SW Coastal Path on a rainy March day. They worked me in generously. I only had a tapas and a local cider but both were fantastic. I had the mussels.

I didn't take any pictures because I devoured the food!!! I had the specials starter... tiger Prawns with confir garlic and foccacia... I've been on low carb for a long time so not sure if that was a contributing factor but OMG the foccacia was the best EVER. Prawns were incredible and can honestly say we both enjoyed every mouthful. Partner had same starter as me.. Also had the mains special... hake and hot tartar. Again absolutely perfect. The fish was cooked impeccably. Partner has sri lankan prawn curry which he absolutely loved (barring tail on Prawns which he said was messy and annoying in a curry, but preference I guess) Loved the open kitchen and the service was perfect. We had the pinot grigio which was a generic wine... easy drink. Nothing special but OK. Lush meal anyway and definitely go back

Wish I could give this place more. They managed to squeeze us in last minute tonight, so glad they did. The food was impeccable, not a huge fish fan but was not disappointed. Service, food and drinks was all a 10.
