Most amazing dinner, between us we had roasts, burger and risotto and it was all fantastic. Lovely staff and cosy pub atmosphere.

Just about a year since the new management and the pub is a warm and welcoming place with lovely staff and a great menu. Dog friendly and an open fire - a great place to meet with friends and family. We had a beautifully cooked meal mid week but the Sunday lunches are also worth booking in for. Highly recommended.

Second visit here in a few days as the first time was good. Booked a table last night and waited a long time before food arrived. Camenbert was good but toasted chiabata dry, hard and tasted stale. Lamb curry had no meat in it. Rice hard, crispy and not cooked properly. Nan bread OK. Won't be going there again. Advise great caution.

This was a quick visit for lunch. We ordered the drinks, a decent pint of Harvey's best for me and a lager for my wife. I was given a menu on request , the selection was not extensive , we asked if they did a ploughmans lunch , this seemed to cause the Bar staff confusion and we never did get an answer. We settled for a sausage sandwich and a cheesy chips. The food was not hot but it was tasty. We sat at a table in the main bar , it was very cold in the pub and had noisy rap type music playing in the background. The staff also had animated and loud conversation in the background. We left as soon as we could as it was not a comfortable experience.

Having worked in pubs for years and been to many, this one is a real gem. Set in lovely countryside and a cute village you really get a homely and happy feel about the pub. A pub that seems to have lots of locals but all very welcoming and friendly. The staff were all very nice, the landlord especially. Some may say a bit of eye candy..but I'm happily married so I shan't. Can't wait to come back for some food and to play some skittles. Sadly the day I popped in they weren't serving food. Great place, great pub and great staff.

Choice of 3 roasts, we had Pork and this was served with all the trimmings, lovely selection of veg and ample portions, best roast we have had in a pub for a long time. This place has excelled itself since the new owners have taken over. I supported the previous family and commend what they did however the new landlord along with his staff make this place a happy place to visit. The pub is a lot busier during the early evening period with local people returning. My daughter and I decided to eat here this evening and I would describe the food as beyond pub grub. In fact my chicken dish was the best ever!

As we arrived my husband spotted that the pub does Harvey's, he was instantly pleased. We entered the pub and were greeted by the owner, Darren and a young lady behind the bar. A friend of ours had recommended we ask to see the skittles, part of the reason we went was because of the attraction of the skittles as when we meet these friends we like to link it with something fun. Darren the owner offered to show us the skittle alley and he also explain his plans on what changes he would be doing, the pub needs some love and updating that's why I didn't give it five stars because when this is done it will make such a difference. The food is honest pub food which we enjoyed, the Harvey's excellent and a good G & T too.

We called in here on the offchance as we had business in the area. We were warmly greeted and served 2 excellent pints of Harveys Best.Apparently, the new owners had taken over the pub fairly recently. Although a Monday lunchtime, the bar was fairly busy. That said, the barstaff took time out to chat and the landlord was proud to tell us how he achieved such fine results with his ales. A glance at the menu - we did not have time for lunch - showed a good selection of reasonably-priced food.As we are due to revisit the area again soon, a repeat performance, lunch included, is a near certainty.

What a lovely friendly pub - having visited a few months ago and being made to feel like an inconvenience it was such a lovely surprise to discover when visiting today that the pub had changed owners. The atmosphere of the place has totally changed and you actually get a smile and a friendly greeting when you walk through the door. When we visited last time the pub was fairly empty but today it was buzzing. What a difference - we shall definitely be regular visitors.

The skittle alley is marvellous fun for every age and the food has always been better than we could ever expect. Small unpretentious pub, packs a punch with good food and friendly, efficient serviceWish I had this in my neighbourhood. We were a group of about 10 people and the majority had leg of lamb with all the trimmings which was wonderful. They also do traditional rolypoly bacon pudding, serve an excellent cheeseboard.A minor suggestion: that the choice of puddings should be expanded a little. We will all come back.thank you for your hospitality!

We had originally planned on going to The Anchor but they had a wedding on so we tried the Royal Oak instead. No regrets! The decor is a bit spartan, but the welcome is warm, and it is dog-friendly which is an essential for us. We can't comment on the beer as we are not beer-drinkers, but the food was excellent. Nothing pretentious, just good quality pub fare in generous portions and at very reasonable prices. Recommended.

Visited at lunchtime with friends. Some just having a drink but I decided to have a light snack. Not able to comment on the beer but my cider was fine. I cannot remember the exact listing of the chosen dish (and they don't appear to have their own website with menu) but deep fried mushrooms, blue cheese dip, and salad leaves. Totally inedible: mushrooms small circular bullets tasting of fat, disgusting glutinous dip and salad leaves doused in dressing. I return it to the bar and am asked whether I would like to chose something else? For "something else" I will have to pay, no apology, no refund - "there's nothing wrong with the mushrooms" I'm told. It's how a problem is dealt with that matters.

Went into this nice looking pub for lunch, ordered our food and asked for a jug of water, to this the barman replied “not splashing out are you?”. Not sure how this is anyway appropriate to say to a paying customer over a very fair request, he has however succeeded in having no returning custom from us! Well done! Food came and chips were good, burger however was pretty awful, microwaved bacon, slightly stale bun. Certainly will not be returning! Customer service lessons may be useful!

This was our 'Plan -B' for lunch today. We set out to eat at the Anchor just a couple of miles down the road in Barcombe, but on arrival and looking at the menu it was on the expensive side for what we was after, which was a light lunch. So we made our way to The Royal Oak to see if they had anything we fancied.Firstly, we noticed how light and airy it was. Although it was not a massive seating area, the majority of the tables were taken. We were greeted at the bar by a very friendly lady, who took our food/drink order. Sausage & chips, and 2 x Beef & Horseradish was the order that was made and arrived within 10 minutes of orderingThe portion sizes we're very generous, for example the sandwiches were filled with at least 4 individual slices of beef plus salad within it. Sausages were of medium size (3)and good quality came with a biggish portion of chips. We were very impressed with this laid back pub that we have booked for a couple of week’s time to return for a family meal.

This pleasantly old-fashioned pub-restaurant attracts "indoor sportsman" such as myself and club colleagues who play skittles matches one floor up from the saloon in the purpose-built sports bar. Darts is also available. There is of course supper at half time and in the form of an excellent buffet stuffed with quality food that used to be exclusively hot with such as cottage pie, beef casserole, chicken wings etc but is now a cold buffet (meats, cheeses, prawns, salmon - you name it - plus super dessert of fruit salad and cream). Only the new, parsley potatoes are hot in the buffet. But it is all just as delicious. About thirty of us (Seaford v Cuckfield) had a very splendid evening in friendly surroundings which have been excellently maintained and refurbished. The skittles alley is now back to first-class after a spell when it became a bit delapidated. Sfaff are very effeiceint although not known whether they are also friendly (very likely) as the bar itself downstairs seems to struggle for custom in a quite small village.. It all gioes down well with a lovely pint or two of Harvey's Bitter.

The Royal Oak is 'The village pub' but do not expect sawdust and cobwebs. On the day of our visit (early March, Wednesday) it was bright, quiet and warm. The landlord was welcoming (as was the only other person at the bar) and we sat near the lovely fire and looked at the menu. There was a good selection and also catered for one of our group who is vegetarian.Quiche, Chicken and Bacon pie and Salmon were chosen and everyone was delighted with the presentation, taste and quantity. The choice of real ales, beers and cider was also good. The toilets are a bit cramped but clean and appeared well maintained. The location is well off the Main roads but well worth a visit if you're out in the countryside.I would seek this place out for a meal if I was back in the area.
