Absolutely fantastic roasts!! Lashings of thick gravy, lots of quality meat, veg and crispy roast potatoes. For those with a smaller appetite, go for the child’s roast, it was just right for my elderly parents. Excellent service as well. Will definitely go back *****

Terrible so avoid! Booked a room for 2 for 40th birthday and paid £65 on offer. 12 days before our stay owned demanded that we pay £80 per person per night as they made a mistake then they cancelled our reservation! Disgusting behaviour! Unprofessional and unacceptable service! Don’t bother with this place if you want to be taken for a ride by the owner! Book elsewhere, less hassle!

Very disappointed, the manager was very rude when we tried to check in. We were only offered a continental break fast, cereals and yogurt were out of date, fruit looked past its best and just given a couple of Croissant and pan au chocolate. The room was not cheap so expected better. Not recommended.

We were greeted by a staff member named OZ who was very friendly & helpful. He showed us to our room which was supposed to be a Delux room at £135 per night and £15 for breakfast. The room and bathroom were very small with a small TV which was on the side of the room which was not practical. I suggest the tv put on the wall instead opposite the bed and would certainly purchase bigger tvs for all the rooms. The second bedroom we were shown you couldn’t swing a cat in. Finally we were given a room with a wet room for a bathroom. The ceiling was mouldy with no where to put our toiletries. I couldn’t do my hair as there is no plug near the mirror, so I suggest put a mirror above the small chest of drawers. We arrived about 8.30 in the bar to enjoy a few drinks but were told around 9pm they were clearing up to close. They even started cleaning the floors infront of us. The next evening we had a meal I chose the risotto which was hard and stodgy and didn’t taste of the cheese at all. My husband was on a work trip and I had just had a hip replacement which the staff were aware of. I asked for a later check out which was extended to 11am which meant I had to walk round the green with my crutch for an hour until the pub actually opened.

Stupidly did not check food reviews beforehand. All food was extremely pour including bread & oil which is hard to get wrong, think it had been put in air fryer to mask it staleness, in fact all dishes seemed to have been severely overcooked in air fryer and were inedible. It’s amazing how quickly you can lose your appetite!!! “Cook” (if you’re going to use an air fryer, RTFM) read the bleep manual.

Visited with two young kids and the dog. Very welcoming staff. The Pub is lovely low ceilings in the front and a big high ceilinged section at the back. Lovely food with a kids menu. Only one choice for vegetarians, Vegan Tagine - it was very tasty. All the food was excellent.Kids were pleased with the LONG list of ice cream flavours. The dog was welcome and fussed over. Very enjoyable family meal. When you approach it looks difficult to park, but they have their own car park out the back with ten spots or so.

Having raved about what the new owners had achieved back in 2018, I was very exited to be in the area and could not wait to re visit this restaurant. However, how things have changed, sadly for the worst. Small portions, little choice, bland curry with hardly any meat, no specials, I felt sorry for the very helpful and friendly staff...

I visited here yesterday evening to have a meal with my family. The welcome was very pleasant however from there it went downhill. The drinks were fine however the food was quite tasteless. We had starter’s of Leek & Potato soup, which although hot, was quite bland, we also had the Chicken Liver Pate, although the portion size was good, again this was very bland, also the bread which came with it was very ordinary. The other two starters were Garlic Bread… which were just that; Garlic Bread. For main course we had the Salmon, which you really had to try hard to find any positives about, and three lots of Fish & Chunky Chips, all of which were visibly over cooked, the batter was nearly brown, and the fish was quite tough! The chips were ok, mushy peas were just mushy and tartar sauce was rather solid! Also where we sat was rather drafty. We did not order a desert or coffee as we did not want to prolong the agony. One positive; the atmosphere was pleasant. Clearly the food is just bought in and heated through, I can’t imagine than any of it was cooked or made fresh. I won’t be going back.

I used to come here all the time and it was one of my favourite places. However unfortunately I visited a couple of days ago and I don’t know if there has been a change of management but it is nothing like it was before. We were sat under the window down the front of the pub and once we were seated we seemed to be ignored for some time. Eventually my partner got up to go to the bar to order drinks to find the staff all gathered together talking. When my partner arrived at the bar the staff saw her yet continued to have their conversation. Eventually we were seen to but felt like a nuisance. We could understand the wait if they were busy but there was only 2 other tables at the time and all the staff were just standing around chatting. The service this place used to have has gone down dramatically and we will not be returning. They seem to have lost the staff that cared.

We have been to the pub a few times as it’s great location when visiting Sheffield park or Nymans and it’s always been alright. However today it was awful. Pub was freezing cold. No fires on as the chimney had not been swept apparently. Food was awful, do not order the pork belly pie, just chunks of fat in a dish with pastry on top, beyond dreadful. Not even bothered to render it down or anything, just ridiculous. Duck was freezing cold when it arrived so sent back. It returned boiling hot but very very chewy and the potato fondant tasted like it was yesterdays. Complained and they seemed to take it seriously but then just took two drinks off the bill. Lost interest at this stage so just accepted and left.Lager was decent…

Hyperthermia. Silly me for expecting to be not ‘beyond cold’ for the duration of our pub lunch - no welcoming fire Nor heating on except in the bathrooms - on a cold November winters day - without an apology. The ‘supervisor’ this evening was defensive and unapologetic preferring to explain why the ‘chimney hadn’t been swept v fire hazard’ instead of retaining his customers loyalty or appreciation for coming home feeling like I’ve got flu. Thanks Never again.

A lovely old building in a great location overlooking the green, but somehow they have managed to suck all the character and soul out if it.It is clear that they don't encourage folk to come and have a drink, which is at heart the entire purpose of a pub. So, with their entire focus on food, surely that should be superb? Sadly not in my case, with my fish having to be sent back because it had been cooked to death.Staff were cheerful and helpful though, which is not enough to persuade me to go back.

Sunday evening was obviously not a good time to visit The Bull. When we arrived the table hadn't been prepared even though we had booked. The service was totally appalling. We were there for nearly two hours and spent most of the time waiting. Drinks took ages to appear, the meal took even longer and then they just appeared to give up.When we had waited far longer than we should, I went to the bar to complain and order desserts. Even though they were "so busy" as I was told, there were three of them chatting behind the bar, not really bothering to do anything. I tried to order but the desserts we wanted were no longer available and so we gave up.One of the people behind the bar went to clear the table. She splashed gravy on my son as she smashed the plates around and was swearing to herself and saying that it wasn't her job to clear the table. It would appear to me that the management of this establishment needs to get a grip on its staff.

We were a big group - 11 adults and six children aged 6-13 - so had ordered ahead of time and were expecting good pub lunch food, but what we got was top-notch, restaurant standard dishes. We really enjoyed our meal at The Bull. It was hands-down the best meal we had on our break in the country. The staff were all very friendly and attentive and the pub itself had a lively vibe. The selection of meals was varied and original - a cut above your usual pub grub. A vegan dish wouldn't normally be my preference but the flavours in their miso-glazed aubergine were so profound that I found myself rhapsodising over it! My partner chose their Chicken Schnitzel which he said was the best he'd tried (and he's a big fan of schnitzel!) The winning element, he said, was the amazing accompanying mushroom sauce. The children's menu was equally as varied and our daughter's mac and cheese with garlic bread was a success. Superb food. Excellent quality, proper chef. This is one of our locals, and there are some good food pubs around but this is the best. Never disappointed with the food but thought I’d try something different. Pan fried sea bass, with cockles, capers, samphire, baby tomatoes and crushed potatoes. It was really good, flavoursome and with a good balance of flavours. At £15.50 It’s not the cheapest pub food but you get what you pay for, and the Bull isn’t just ordinary pub food. On the other hand the beers and wines are also good quality and at a very good price, much cheaper than other local pubs. Service is good, plenty of attentive staff. It’s much bigger than it looks from the outside and has open fires and beams but also bright and airy.If you’re in the area, I do recommend you pop in.

Roaring fires are great for cold wet walkers. The menu looked fantastic and enjoyed by everyone in our 16-strong party including all of the hungry children. The only low point for me and two others was the steak pie, which was a bit watery, overkilled with silverskin onions and under-populated with actual beef pieces - and it wasn’t really a pie but a casserole with a pastry lid. We all agreed that the carrots flavoured with caraway seeds were not a hit either. Otherwise, good atmosphere and good food.

I wrote a review of what was once a truly excellent restaurant at the pub, clean , fresh well run, and fantastic high quality roasts, dating after my first visit in November 2018. This year, therefore, in August, I booked for a much heralded family celebration for a nephew who had got married to a gorgeous lass, and his parents, as we could not make the wedding. It was our treat. What a let down. The chef has changed. We did not know. Starters miserable and tasteless and very little to choose from if you are not a fish eater or vegetarian on the starters menu. Main meal : -Vegetables ghastly. Burgers not brilliant,. Chips bad. Roast meat was not good quality at all. Sloppy service and slow. Roast potatoes not crispy -bad all round for the price, To top it all- the coffee machine, had apparently been out of order all week. So no coffees. Lemon tart which was bought in was only decent thing. Appallingly bad really. And then we had to put up with the worst pub music I had ever heard, drowning out conversation. Going downhill fast.

I visited this pub with my partner on Friday evening. It was recommended to us by a couple of family/friends that had visited here in the past. I called up and asked to book a table for half 7, but was told to book it at 15 mins earlier because there was a large party and would be easier for the chefs for our order to be first, so I agreed and our table was booked.

We ate here Saturday night as it was recommended by our B&B; owners. And it did not disappoint the food and wine was lovely. Certainly a step-up from the usual pub grub. We found the pub calm and relaxing and the staff very friendly. We had a delicious bottle of Rioja and ordered a large bottle of fizzy water as it was such a hot evening. I loved the fact that the waiter brought along a mini ice bucket full of ice and lemon so we could top up when needed, really appreciated.

Lovely looking pub, clean and welcoming - as it has to be with at least 2 others in walking distance. We got a lovely looking spacious room on the top floor granary with a 4 poster bed, but our friends were not so lucky with a 'family' room on the ground floor, very small and dark. Our room was quite battered with falling down window coverings and marked paint, stains and cracks but until the drunk guest started hammering at his/our door in the early hours it wasn't so bad that you had to shut all the blinds or be on display to the constantly smoking staff or car park.

My daughter Justine lives not far from The Bull and since both her birthday and mine are close together in August, she suggested a birthday bash here, for three generations of my family. The food and the service were pretty good. My brother, i.e my daughter's uncle and I with our partners both stayed overnight so we enjoyed not only a lunch which was very adequate for all our needs but we also stayed for the continental breakfast, included in the bed and breakfast price, which was excellent. I would have no hesitation in recommending it as a cheap and cheerful place to eat and to stay.

We ate dinner here while in the area on holiday, and were disappointed with the standard of the food, which was very average. The vegetarian option was extremely bland-tasting and overall the standard was disappointing. The staff were friendly and helpful but this did not make up for the food. The pub is also noisy, as it is all wooden floors and chairs, no soft furnishings. There are better pubs in the vicinity to eat!

The Bull at Newick has a chef I believe who used to deliver his culinary expertise in another pub in Horsted Keynes. My sister recommended the Bull and went last year for Sunday lunch at the end of November. The Sunday lunch served when we were there was of a very high standard, I am a good cook myself, and particularly good at roasts, but I could not have surpassed the roast turkey, roast lamb and roast beef that our party of 4 had. I am booked to go there again for lunch this August 25th taking my newly married nephew and his wife and my sister and her husband. Hope it lives up to the same brilliant standards.

My husband and I were on holiday staying in Newick with both of our Mothers. We went for dinner as it was walking distance from where we were staying. I had Tuna Nicoise and my husband had an aubergine and grain salad. Both were very tasty and plentiful. In fact I wished I had gone for the smaller plate as it was too much. For dessert I had a hazelnut parfait with cherries and chocolate ganache it was really tasty and not too rich. The waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable.

Stayed here for the 2nd time this month. Accommodation is simple but clean and well equipment. Very good value. Food is excellent and good value given the size of the portions served. I must say that the only thing that outshines the accommodation and food is the friendly you staff. The young guy who took care of my booking is a real asset to this place.

A great village pub with an excellent balance between village local and gastro-pub. The menu has a mix of modern fresh options (tuna steak, seafood linguine) and traditional pub staples (fish and chips, pie). The service is excellent - warm, friendly, attentive. We'll definitely be back soon

Was disappointed seeing the waitresses having their break and on the next table to me, talking to the village idiot who was very loud and yes I ended up talking to him, he'd been to Worthing for a bbq the night before. The food was excellent! I told one of the little girlies that there were no paper hand towels in the ladies, she couldn't even put my card payment through without help! Need to get a grip!!

Late supper for four of us, ordered at 2120 and they were fine with that, which is nicely flexible. The staff were great, food was good - I had the ham and eggs - as was the Harvey’s. Only surprise was that the pub was so quiet on a Saturday night

We went for a family meal on a Sunday Lunchtime. the menu is varied and interesting, with good vegetarian options. Everything we ordered arrived in good, was well cooked generous servings and delicious. Desserts were exceptional. Service was friendly, efficient and unhurried. Overall this is just what you want and expect from a country pub. While it isn't the cheapest, it still represents great value for money. Would definitely recommend it.

Just visited The Bull at Newick we’ve eaten here a few times before but this time I felt it worthy of a mention. We have had an absolutely fabulous meal. The mixed bread starter was so delicious we couldn’t believe how good it was. Main meals were all of the highest quality and then desserts - top quality. The standard is so much better than pub food .... not sure what has changed but excellent meals and value for money. The staff were also great very friendly and attentive. We will definitely come back again.

We had a table for 5 booked at 13:30, we were led to our table located between the two main parts of the pub near the entrance to the kitchen and ladies toilet. The first thing I noticed was how cold this part of the pub is and the radiator I was sat next to was off. I saw some Sunday roasts being served to other diners and these looked mediocre and were overpriced so I ordered cod and chips which was ok. On the up side the young staff were very pleasant. Please sort the heating out.

i was very unimpressed. The bar lady was very rude/ unprofessional and seemed to look down on everyone even the customers. It wasn’t a great atmosphere. it made me feel very awkward as they were rude didn’t seem to know how to treat customers properly. it’s a real shame seeing as the bull used to be so welcoming and friendly.

We went early last night at 5.30, because of our 18 month old daughter being with us. The staff were delightful, nothing was too much trouble. All of our meals were delicious, very reasonably priced, using fresh ingredients and served very quickly. For a family supper we really couldn't fault it, 5 stars!

Nice location, nice feel about the place, nice selection of drinks..... But, the food is overpriced for what it is; slightly over cooked and a little dry. Kids left their meals, ate only the fries, will we return? Don’t know, will probably try the pub up the road first to have a comparison.....

Having had a previously good evening meal we took a friend for lunch and ordered the Warm Salmon Bagel. What it failed to mention was that is was half a bagel and although was served with crisps and salad (not really needed) at £8 was vastly overpriced. My husband and I basically paid £16 for a whole bagel between us. It was mentioned to the waitress who was very understanding and had obviously been bought up by other customers before but obviously they had not changed the portion side . To be honest came away still hungry so won't be rushing back.

We visited this pub for a friends birthday dinner. The food was delicious - really tasty and all the dishes looked great too. The service was really good - we were a big group and the staff were very attentive with service and drinks. Very much recommend this pub for dinner or some casual cosy drinks.

Called in on spec to this pub for a quick pint. Ordered 2 pints of Cruzcampo lager that looked lively but was completely flat by the time I got to the table. Outrageously expensive at £12.80 for the two pints. Absolute no atmosphere in this pub. At least the barmaid was welcoming and friendly..

Most amazing dinner, between us we had roasts, burger and risotto and it was all fantastic. Lovely staff and cosy pub atmosphere.

Met up with some friends for lunch, which was delicious - the scallop starters was excellent. Great and prompt service offered by Olivia and very well looked after, again, by Philo. Thanks!
