The new owners Colin and LJ are great nice polite people, go there every weekend for the entertainment especially Friday night karaoke and disco night. Dj plays to the crowd.

A proper locals boozer. No frills, no food, just beer, sport, a jukebox and conversation.

Royal Oak Pub in Halstead waste our time and Money!!! If there is any musician playing or planning to play there read carefully Tonight we arrived with my band at Royal Oak. We were about to unload the equipments, one of the staff come and say you are not playing tonight, manager has changed and he cancelled all the bands booked by old manager. plus new manager said he tried to get in touch with us on FB but we didnt reply ( Liar liar pants on fire!). After 100 miles drive it wasnt good news at all. Anyway . My advise to that manager learn some professional ethics or leave the live music alone, dont waste the bands (musicians) time and money or go and open a bakery, pet shop or something!!!

Visited on a Monday lunchtime on a drizzly day. A fair few people were there for either a drink or lunch. Beautiful fifteenth century coaching in with lovely atmosphere, full of beams, old furniture, pictures etc. This place oozes charm. Good quality and tasty pub food. All what we had was homemade to include the chips. Always put off when the chips are out of a freezer. Not inexpensive but that does not mean bad value. Nice and helpful lady behind the bar. It’s nice to have a trip out to this pretty village. Used to come to the village when our children were young and eat at a lunchtime/tea shop place called Magnolia then Buckley’s. That closed down a few years back and now without the children this place is great and utterly charming. Will return soon despite the 40 minute drive from the Herts Essex border where we live. Highly recommended.

I turned up in this shady little corner of hell desperate for some cheap food, after paying I realised the mess, the guy working must have killed a pigeon and stuck it on a pizza, I can only guess that's what he did because that's what the pizza tasted like. Would not recommend ruining your appetite here.
