Very traditional pub with a very delicious ploughman's lunch. Would highly recommend.

I love this place. Such a special location (been coming since I was a child), wonderful staff and an epic ploughman.

Great old country pub with plenty of outdoor tables to enjoy the weather or sit inside and feel that you are travelling back in time. Lovely food and great service. Can't wait to sit by the fireplace in winter!

Been going here for 40 plus years and it's a pub that never changes in the best possible way. Food,atmosphere and lovely staff who always go out of their way to give a lovely welcome.

Wonderful lunchtime experience, what a lovely place full of old world charm and character. Excellent food and service. I would highly recommend, booking in advance is recommended although we were made very welcome when calling in on spec today.

Rustic it is and wonderfully so. The fare was tasty and bountiful, the service was happy, frriendly and swift. The ambience was delightful even on a really rainy, post-storm day. I loved it and cannot wait for summer to visit again.

What a Brilliant British pub A proper British Sunday Roast The way our mums used to do it The gravy had good consistency and depth in taste Unusually roasted Beetroot Nicely presented and fairly priced Re the sweet This is where our British pub lets us down They didn’t do Apple BlackBerry crumble or apple rhubarb pie they only did chocolate this cheese cake and so on But the ladies more than made up for my disappointment I called them Apple , Blackberry and Crumble We had such good banter which made our visit perfect and wanting to come back Thank you Gevin

Our first time in this pub,to meet friends, midway between us,lovely old building with an open fire,the food was great ,I had lambs liver and bacon ,with mash and onions,the best liver I have eaten,for a long time,friendly staff,and great service,and because one of our party did not like a small part of the meal which was due to their taste and not a fault with the food,they gave them a free sweet ,we have never had service like it,we are definitely going back,again, highly recommend this pub .

Went for a Sunday roast which was lovely. Service ok despite being very busy. The only thing that let it down was the lack of any tea but breakfast tea, and any coffee but instant.

Went here on a quiet Monday lunchtime for a walk and lunch for my Birthday. We ate the Tartiflette and the Fisherman's platter and both were incredible, the rest of the menu looks really nice as well. Friendly staff, good service and really good food, very reasonably priced too. We will be back!

Excellent place. It's nice to go out in the sticks and not encounter the usual idiots you find in Burgess Hill. Staff were polite and friendly. A really nice afternoon.

Lovely local, haven't eaten but a broad range on menu. Harvey's and Long Man ales on draught.

Food was good but not something id race back for. Service was a bit sluggish but the atmosphere made up for it

Excellent Caesar chicken salad and a pint of barrel kept Harvey's beer. What could be better?

Called in for a pint mid-afternoon and to see the menu for maybe later return. Appears 2 small rooms with an old smokey pub feel about them. Friendly staff. Didn’t look at menu as wouldn’t want to eat there. There is a large tented area outside to sit on warm enough days.

Hard to find pubs with such a amazing food these days but Royal Oak had it!! Open sandwiches very absolutely delicious 😋

Charming old school pub, definitely watch your head on the beams. Birthday lunch for the mother in law and wasn't disappointed. Excellent ploughman's which was recommended and staff and settling was excellent. Looking forward to going back to try the Sunday lunch

Absolutely stunning pub with world-class food. We've been to The Royal Oak a few times now for food, and it never disappoints. The menu is always a perfectly tuned selection of traditional pub dishes made with locally sourced produce. Everything from the starters to the desserts is without fault. The service is always excellent too with friendly staff. I appreciate how much the history and character of the place remains intact. Everything about the pub has an old English rustic charm. May it never change!

A fabulous traditional pub with excellent food and welcoming landlord. You even have to go outside for the gents. Reminds me of the Kentish pubs of my youth. Well worth a visit.

Great home cooked food, friendly helpful staff and a quiet country location.

Had a great afternoon here, food excellent all 6 meals ordered got the thumbs up, Tartiflette was spot on, staff attentive and friendly, highly recommended.

Always a pleasure to eat in this pub. Being bank holiday Monday, and with live music, this was an especially busy day but the two girls serving the tables never stopped and maintained high quality service. Well done girls.

Ate outside, nice and clean. Small menu with no childrens options unfortunately. Luckily we visited specifically for the Ploughmans which had been recommend. It was delicious and a large portion for the price so we could share with our son. Very impressed.

We had booked a table and arrived on time but the 2 bar staff seemed surprised to see us and said there were 7 tables in front of us for food. We waited an hour and a quarter before any food appeared. The place was less than half full. The wait staff in my opinion were inappropriately dressed for waiting tables and looked completely unconcerned that we had waited so long with no apologies. The food was good when it arrived.

Lovely young lady served us at the bar. Inside the seating area is old and quite dark. Ample outdoor seating and car park.

A proper country pub with great food, beer and friendly atmosphere. Meals aren't cheap, but very good quality and generous portion sizes. Love it! Returned recently, and had a very enjoyable lunch in front of the open fire!

One of the most antiquated pubs I have been in for a long time but very nice. Food service a bit slow but worth the wait. Real ales still served direct from the barrels. Looks like it could be well worth a visit in the summer with its large outdoor seating area

Terrific service, very good food. Only downside was that it was a bit on the chilly side throughout the building, but you can't have everything.

Great country pub, with excellent friendly staff providing great service and awesome tasty cuisine. There was plenty of outside seating and if you want to eat, I would suggest you book as there is limited seating inside, but it's so well worth it. Well done all the team.

Brilliant pint, great service and quent pub on a weekday eve by the fire. Didn't eat, wasn't really fancying anything but will try next time I'm there.

Real time warp. No jukebox no lager just gravity fed beer and good food.

Overpriced mediocre food. If you are going to charge £17 for a roast then at least put more than broccoli and carrots and a bit of mashed swede on the plate. Poor presentation not very interesting and super disappointing…. Looking at the reviews from before the food looked so much better then. Shame as the pub is so beautiful and the staff are absolutely lovely.
