I can't thank you enough Ray, Jo & staff for welcoming a very large group of family and friends. When I was ready to give up on a "night before the wedding" get together after another establishment let us down, you certainly stepped in to make this happen! The food, the venue, the staff were excellent! You've allowed us to catch up with family and friends (some of them we haven't seen for years/from all over the world). For some of our foreign guests, it's the ideal place to experience a typical English pub atmosphere complete with roaring wood fire in the background! Everybody was very happy, relaxed and quite complimentary of the service. We felt very much at home. I only wish you are near us to be our local. However, we plan to visit you whenever we can. Again, thank you and your staff for a wonderful service.

We held our mother’s Wake at The Royal Oak recently. From start to finish Ray and his staff were fantastic. Ray was very sympathetic and nothing was too much trouble. His staff were friendly and so accommodating making sure our guests were well catered for. The food!…well all I can say is, the sandwiches went down very well! They were amazing! Proper big sandwiches, all local produced and even though more guests arrived than we stated, there was plenty to go around! The fire was lit and it was just such a beautiful surrounding and atmosphere. Thank You so much Ray & your amazing staff.

Contacted Ray from Australia to get help organising a small function for family and friends in South Cerney on our visit to the UK. He was very helpful and we had such a fantastic day and evening. Such a lovely countryside British pub where we were warmly welcomed. Prices were really reasonable, staff were lovely and the buffet Ray created for us was absolutely delicious. When chefs care about the food so much, it really shows. Thanks again for a fabulous experience and exceeding all our expectations.

I Would not recommended this pub to anyone, When we arrived it seemed they did not have our booking but was able to show staff that there was an email from Ray confirming our booking this did get sorted. When our roast arrived we were very disappointed with the quality and to the fact it was cold, the food had no flavour, very little veg (very limp) the roast potatoes had not even been roasted and the Yorkshire puddings were flat! we also had to ask on more then once for the sauces, staff had not even approached us to see if everything was ok with our meals. We had to highlight our disappointment which had obviously up set them as the manager eventually came out and was extremely rude and aggressive and had no interest in sorting out the issue.

Visited 3 weeks ago for Sunday lunch. Moved to village 19 months ago but this was our first visit. Came with my husband and daughter. We received a warm welcome with the owner chatting away to us. Wasn't too busy and a relaxed atmosphere. We all had a Sunday roast which was lovely and my daughter who knows a good sticky toffee pudding when she tastes one, said it was the best she ever had. The waitress Jenifer made us smile. Absolutely gorgeous and just so funny. Thank you guys. Hope to come back Father's Day.

We wanted to use the Royal Oak for my mothers’ wake for a couple of reasons, and Ray, the landlord was very accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble, even accepting my sisters fairly extensive list of requirements with no issues. The buffet he and his team provided on the day was very tasty, large quantities, and the cakes were delicious. His young team, including Masie (sorry I’ve forgotten the others names) were very professional, and again, nothing was too much trouble. The Royal Oak is a lovely traditional pub, with a smaller, ‘snug’ type bar at the front, with a larger, lighter, recently nicely decorated lounge bar at the back. It also has a large patio area at the back, that would be real sun trap in the summer. Thank you, Ray, I would visit the Royal Oak again without hesitation.

Checked the menu outside which looked good. Was in a steak mood! Dropped in to see if we needed to book a table. Couldn’t accommodate our requested time as they were going to be busy but we did get a table just half hour later. Nothing was said then about the menu when booking. Arrived a little early which was nearer to our first requested time as we thought we’d have a drink first. We had a warm welcome and we’re taken straight to our table. The one we couldn’t have! . Staff were certainly friendly though. Then we were advised there was a different chef and the menu had been limited that evening. NO STEAK. Had they told me that earlier we would have gone somewhere else. Had to eat something else that I didn’t really want which was gammon. It was ok, but the chips were frozen chips and most were cremated. The food was quite poor in our opinion. Oh and we noticed we were 2 of only 10 people in there but they couldn’t accommodate an earlier time as they were busy. Certainly won’t go back.

Really poor experience. Roast was tasteless, gravy was like water and mashed potato had hard uncooked potato in it. Ordering drinks seemed to be an inconvenience and when I tried to pass some of this feedback on which was meant in a constructive way they were completely uninterested. Shame really but would have preferred to cook our own roast had we known how poor this was going to be. Poor meal for the money, service also poor - wouldn’t return.

I came in on Mother’s Day for an absolutely splended meal. I have seen the review below and completely disagree with the statement they have. Me and my family thought that the food was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced for Mother’s Day; for what we got we thought it was very reasonable for how it cooked and presented, they didn’t the price up for Mother’s Day and it was same as normal Sunday lunch prices. Overall we had a really enjoyable with friendly staff and wonderful owners and would definitely come back for a second meal 🙂

On a weekend away with friends, we booked a Mother's Day lunch. Perhaps we should have paid more attention to the fact that it was the only place with available space. There were empty tables inside. The decor was pleasant, but it was very cold, and the wood burner was not lit. When we complained, the very pleasant waiter attempted to light it. This resulted in smoke, followed by the need to open all doors and windows, and then it went out again. The waiter apologized and said the wood burner was broken. There was no sign of alternative heating. As it was only 1pm, we were surprised that there was no roast pork. We ordered 4 beef, one turkey, one lamb. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco. At this point we were unaware of the price of the meals (no mention on the menu). When the meals arrived, we were amused to see that the Yorkshire Puddings were actually more like Yorkshire Pancakes. The "Rosemary Roast Potatoes" didn't taste of Rosemary, and were more like baked potatoes, there was a cauliflower floret, some green beans, peas, parsnips and sprouts and carrots, and some swede, served in slices, some of which were undercooked, as were some of the potatoes. There were also some "bashed" potatoes, and gravy. Although not piping hot, it was generally OK, but we asked to talk to the Manager. He seemed surprised that we had any reservations, said that the "roast" potatoes looked like baked because they were cooked with skin on (we were all housewives of a certain age!). He explained that they pride themselves on not peeling their vegetables, and serving them al dente. His explanation for the Yorkshire Pancakes was that they had just collapsed everywhere. He complained that he was short staffed (he'd been cleaning the urinals) but surprisingly, the web site says there are no vacancies. We then asked the price, and were told that the Main Course was £17.95 - the lamb +£2 - at which my jaw dropped. We were offered a free bottle of Prosecco, which we declined, so the cost of the bottle we had finished was removed from the bill. He tried to convince us that he was cheaper than "all the other pubs around". We decided not to proceed with deserts, paid up and left. I should reiterate that we regularly eat out, have been cooking for decades, and are not in the habit of complaining.

If you like tough undercooked vegetables, then this place is for you, I don’t, and when I asked for softer, I was accosted with an extremely unprofessional manner, downright rude.. and was told in no uncertain terms that they only serve firm vegetables.. . and “mushy” was not on the menu, I don’t eat mushy, I eat reasonably cooked food, you could bend the carrots and parsnips they were not crisp. Just unreasonably hard. And as I had criticised, I wasn’t welcome again .. not that I would return to someone who ran an establishment with such venom !

We have just had a lovely 3 course meal at the Royal oak. We are staying at a spa nearby and have been really disappointed in the food at our venue so we decided to search for a nearby pub that did a Sunday roast and emailed royal oak last minute on Saturday night. They explained they had a poker night on but would do there best to cook us a dinner as we mentioned we couldn't get to them till abit later. We arrived a little earlier than planned but this was no problem as we was seated fairly quickly, our order was took. We had garlic paprika mushrooms and the roast vegetable soup to start with bread and butter, both had beef roast dinner. The size of our piece of beef was very reasonable and tasted beautiful. We had green beans, peas, roasted carrots and parsnips with roast potatoes and crushed potatoes and yorkshire pudding. Was perfect amount and good amount of tasty gravy. We finished it off with apple and blackberry pie with some lovely fudge ice-cream (plus toffee sauce so I was happy) and choc pudding and custard. Both delicious. Service was fast. Staff was very friendly. Decor was very cosy and beautiful. Atmosphere was chilled and relaxing even with the poker night on which didn't bother us at all or effect us and had a nice bit of music in background. Was shocked to see last few reviews was so low as we couldn't fault our experience. We would definitely return if we was visiting the area. Thank you for serving us at such short notice and for a lovely night which has made up our wkend

We stayed in the Cotswolds with our family and were pleased to find a pub that started serving meals early as we have two young grandchildren. Also the web site was very encouraging The group was seven adults and two children. The welcome and service was friendly the pub was clean and well kept. Alas some of the fare left a lot to be desired, several of us ordered the mushrooms expecting whole or at least halved pan fried with garlic, instead we were served sliced, old mushrooms which had turned into a tasteless black sludge! Two had steaks which were enjoyed, the majority had various burgers which were OK, chips weren’t great. Sadly my wife chose the sausages which were tasteless, served with off colour peas floating in a thin watery “gravy” So sadly our visit was memorable for all the wrong reasons, if the new owners really want to “make a go” of the place they need to review some aspects of their offerings.

Myself and my boyfriend went here for Sunday lunch as a change from our local pub. We were unfortunately extremely dissatisfied. The portion size was tiny, we had about 2 carrots and parsnips each, the potatoes were hard, there was a teaspoon of mash and the gravy was limited. The menu made it sound like a filling, substantial meal but we left extremely disappointed and still hungry. Such a shame as the location and pub itself is beautiful. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome but the lack of customers, food and the higher price tag made us question if we had made a good choice. Unfortunately we will not be returning for Sunday lunch.

We visited here tonight (20th January 24) for dinner. The welcome was extremely warm.and friendly and it was a shame that it wasn't busier as it deserves to be! The drinks were great - I had a great beer or two. The food is, as advertised, good pub food. We had starters (soup, mushrooms and pate) which were excellent as were the mains - Gammon, Bangers & Bash and steak. We were too full for dessert unfortunately. I'm not sure where the reviewer that left a 1* review recently went, but it was either a very bad day or insincere review in my opinion - and I don't say that lightly. We went to this pub because of the images of the food and the previous reviews, it fell far below standard. I heard that the owners are not from the UK and I urge them to try the food, because it is, in its current state to be missed. The food was £30+ a head for food alone, which is high but not above what is expected for Sunday lunch for 3 courses. I appreciate that it was a limited menu, but that in fact gives the kitchen far more grace to get it right. Everything tasted reheated and stale. However, the puddings were great. The starters and mains were terrible. The beef and pork were dry, the vegetables cakey and the sauce a disgusting tasting goup. Service was fine if not shaley.

We chose the Royal Oak as it had some good looking vegetarian options. I had the mushroom soup as my starter and it was absolutely wonderful - an oily clear soup with mushrooms in it, and the best I've ever had. Sadly, the second course, beetroot wellington did not live upto the first. A lump of almost inedible pastry with about a spoonful of beetroot inside it. Speaking to the waitress afterwards, she told me that the mushroom soup was made in house, but that they buy in some other items, including the wellington. So, my advice if coming here, is to pick things they cook themselves. And order the mushroom soup!

The portion was huge and I couldn’t finish it all. The kitchen team made our son some garlic bread for his starter as he couldn’t wait to tuck into something. I asked for bread and butter but they went over and above which delighted him. We had a beef and pork roast dinner. Wow! Delicious food, we'd recommend the chicken dish from the evening menu. They have a lovely outdoor play area and the kids meals were a great size. Great staff and a lovely place to visit.

Really lovely food here. We're only here for a week but we'd be regular visitors if we were local. They clearly have a talented and passionate chef, skilled with grill and fish. We had beautiful steak, mackerel and pork. My son loved the mac' n...

Lovely country PUP mainly aimed at food, which is very tasty and good standard, fairly expensive, but what place isn't these days.

My main or fish was lovely, however the “home made bread” was clearly not home made the focaccia was bland and had no flavour and was soaked in oil the texture was off. The white bread was bland. Service was good! Maybe get some bread...

Had breakfast here enjoyed by all. Recommend the breakfast muffin - beats McDonald's hands down.

Seems to have taken a nosedive in terms of service and quality. This used to be a great place to come and relax but not anymore.I understand it's been bought out ( franchise). My latest and last experience...The coffee was awful. Lots of young male staff just hanging around behind the service area, stale cakes. Won't be going back again.

Excellent food, great atmosphere, and very attentive service. We had dinner during our stay nearby on our visit to the cotswolds. The food was top. Would love to return at some point in the future if returning to the area. Definitely try if you are nearby.

Ordered from this restaurant on Uber eats and the food that arrived was laughable, their hot dogs are the same size as a thumb, the chicken burger looked like a chicken nugget and there were roughly around 20 chips in each box. Don’t be deceived by their websites photos as they are far from the truth.

Went to this pub due to it being the inspiration for the prancing pony. Enjoyed the ambience of the pub and the service that much we have booked a stay for the new year
