My daughter and I dropped by on the off-chance of an early lunch - having had a dreadful experience trying to buy a Landrover at the local 4x4 workshop. We were 45 min ahead of opening time but were nonetheless welcomed, provided with some hot drinks and then some lovely baguettes for lunch. Our experience at the Royal Oak repaired our faith in customer service and could not have contrasted more with the way we were treated earlier. It's a shame we live 2 hours away!

If I could choose 10 stars for the Royal Oak, I would without hesitation! Nikki and Dave have the perfect combination of friendly, authentic customer service, high quality food, energetic and attentive staff and a welcoming environment that feels like a warm hug. Our first experience was after a soggy hike from the neighbouring village and Nikki, noticing I was soaked though, disappeared upstairs and came back down with dry trousers for me before serving up a hearty and delicious Sunday roast. Such was the positive impact on us that we booked up for the following Sunday, hiked over and had lunch - again, a generous serving of fine food and friendly, personal customer service. Having our young kids with us we planned to catch the bus home but Nikki offered us a lift, door to door, after our meal. Nikki always has a smile and makes you feel so welcome, Dave is a master in the kitchen and always pops out to check you have all you need - between them they have assembled a young and vibrant team to make every part of the experience perfect. We have since returned multiple times, taken my parents and our friends to enjoy the child / adult / animal friendly experience and share a homely feel that the Royal Oak offers one and all - whether for a nice, intimate drink or a 3 course meal for a family celebration! I rarely write reviews but the Royal Oak deserves recognition for simply getting it right on so many levels!

Walked to the Royal Oak from Urchfont, the weather was horrendous so we were soaked through by the time we arrived. Having received the warmest of welcomes from the landlady Nicky, we settled down at our table and the staff couldn't have been more attentive, drinks served at the table whilst we removed sodden wellies. When the food arrived it was delicious and a generous amount, unlike some pubs who provide one bowl of vegetables to four people. The pub itself was warm and decorated so festive for Christmas that it only added to a wonderful experience. Icing on the cake, the kids were welcomed with open arms and the games room was great fun after lunch. Can't recommend the Royal Oak highly enough.

Our friend took us to The Royal Oak when we visited, it was a very friendly pub, it has to be good as it was full around the bar. The menu was very inviting, I had one of the best steak and kidney suet puddings I have had for a long time. The starters and desert menu where also very good. After the meal we enjoyed some lovely beers. The staff were friendly and helpful. A lovely evening was had and I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Met up with some friends here and it was excellent. I'd been once before and was very impressed. 2nd time was DEFINITELY NOT a disappointment. Dave and Nikki could not have been more welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious and arrived quickly and was hot. The choice of beer impressed my husband!! And the wines were very good. The menu has an amazing choice for all types. I can't recommend The Royal Oak enough. It is a REALLY good pub. Hopefully we will be back again soon! I visited the village to see where my Ancestors had lived. It was past 1 o'clock and saw The Royal Oak Pub. It was so good. Local friendly people in the bar greeted us and spoke as if we knew them. The menu was perfect with such a good selection of home-cooked food. The chef came out of the kitchen to ask if we were enjoying our meal. The steak and kidney pudding was totally delicious. Lots of vegetables and excellent gravy were also served. I would certainly go there again. Highly recommend.

Had a wonderful afternoon in the pubs Function Room and enclosed garden. We met up witha large group of family on Saturday 11th May. Staff were very attentive and helpful throughout the afternoon. Felt very welcomed. Thought I had left my cardigan in function room and went back later that day. There was a young dark haired woman in downstairs room I think her name was Anna ? She was extreemly helpful and searched everywhere for the cardigan. Nothing was a bother for her. I kept apologising for taking up her time. Unfortunatly it wasn't there but I later found it in a bag at my brothers house. I don't know this young woman but she is an asset to your team. Sorry I can't remember her name properly. Please pass on my thanks. Shirley Sheppard Bude Cornwall.

Had a lovely evening in the Royal Oak with 6 friends celebrating my birthday. The landlord Dave had asked on booking if it was a particular occasion and when we arrived I was surprised and delighted by the effort the staff had put in. There were nice decorations and a drink for me on the house. The young waiting staff were efficient and attentive and the meals were delicious. After dinner we moved into the lounge area where the comfy sofas had been reserved for us and the drinks continued to flow. There was a friendly, busy atmosphere in the pub and we all had a great time. Thank you very much to Dave , Nikki and your team, you made me feel very special !

Passing through and looked up the Royal Oak online. Looked like a nice country pub serving food until 1430. Arrived at 1330 on a Wednesday afternoon and told no food was being served with no explanation. Shame. Found a pub called the Green Dragon down the road and had a lovely meal. Shouldn’t advertise food if you can’t deliver on it.

I visited The Royal Oak with my daughter for dinner. The menu is not extensive but there is something for everyone and there is a specials board. The food was beautifully presented and vegetables were fresh and vibrant. The roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and lovely and fluffy in the middle. Everything was perfectly seasoned and the meat was moist and tasty. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The fire was warming and added character to the building.

Went for a mid week roast on Wednesday and we had a superb lunch. We’ve been several times this year and the standard is exemplary. Chose roast turkey from a choice of several roast meats available and I can honestly say that the turkey was the most succulent that I have tasted in recent years ! Syrup sponge with custard for pud, just to finish the meal off,(as well as me). Staff really attentive and the pub is great place to visit. Realistic prices, good car park and an enviable consistency. Certainly a great pub to visit, either for lunch or dinner. Plenty of choices from a sufficiently full menu !

After speaking with locals and reading reviews we decided to book Sunday lunch at this local pub which appears to be increasing in popularity week by week. We were warmly welcomed by Nikki and shown to our table where we were quickly served drinks and our order was taken . The plentiful portion of roast beef arrived soon after accompanied with crispy roast potatoes, a lovely dish of fresh vegetables, a large yorkshire pudding an even a separate cauliflower cheese. What we liked was the fact that the food was piping hot and extra hot gravy was also provided by David the landlord. Puddings were also fantastic. My wife had a superb knickerbocker glory and I enjoyed the lemon and ginger biscuit cheesecake. We definitely hope to book again soon.

This is the best pub that I have been to for years! The place was spotless, the food delicious and the atmosphere fantastic. But the staff… the staff are the kindest, most accommodating people I have had the pleasure to meet in a long time. I arrived at the pub, having travelled quite a long way, a little nervous for a first date. When I walked in I soon realised that not only was I early but the pub wasn’t even due to be open for a little while. The staff, on hearing my plight, not only let me stay but kept me company and made me feel so welcome. Dave, Nikki, Mark and Mya (and extras who I didn’t catch the names of) were absolute legends and showed me nothing but kindness. My date and I stayed for 3 hours in the end, having eaten the most delicious lunch and been in a pub with the best buzz and atmosphere I have experienced in ages. My date was absolutely lovely, but in truth I fell completely in love with The Royal Oak today. What a place… and I will definitely, definitely be back. Thank you Royal Oak for being the best comrades a girl could ask for in a time of need. You deserve every success because you are blummin’ fantastic!!! What a team!

A cozy little pub in the high street. There is ample parking to the rear of the pub and a small beer garden. As with most old pubs, the configuration isn't intuitive. To access the toilets you must exit the rear of the property, into the beer garden and then into the toilets from there, potentially difficult for the elderly or drunken customer.

Went to a family event innthe function room upstairs, I tripped twice on the random step by the back door, I couldn't see any warning sign and almost fell while holding my baby. The smoking area is right outside the back door ( I assume as punters were smoking there) not ideal as you have to walk through the smoke to get to the car park. Other than that it's an OK place to go.

The ensuite was good with a bath, not a shower but all worked perfectly and the hot water flowed well in the morning. There was a band playing that evening, which I was warned about but I was assured that all the band would finish at 2300 and they did! All quiet by 2330. The breakfast was substantial and delicious.
