The Royal Oak in Wiltshire

Treated the Mother-in-Law on Mothering Sunday. Higher quality food than your average pub. Friendly, courteous staff, pleasant surroundings. WiFi, but poor mobile reception on 3 network if that's important to you. Dogs and childen welcome.

Fabulous hosts, amazing food and everyone was friendly, bonus for us as we are visiting from Australia and knew no-one in the area. It made our Christmas feel like home.

Walked to the Royal Oak from Urchfont, the weather was horrendous so we were soaked through by the time we arrived. Having received the warmest of welcomes from the landlady Nikki, we settled down at our table and the staff couldn't have been more attentive, drinks served at the table whilst we removed sodden wellies. When the food arrived it was delicious and a generous amount, unlike some pubs who provide one bowl of vegetables to four people. The pub itself was warm and decorated so festive for Christmas that it only added to a wonderful experience. Icing on the cake, the kids were welcomed with open arms and the games room was great fun after lunch. Can't recommend the Royal Oak highly enough.

Warm welcome, fine food and excellent customer service! December 2024 If I could choose 10 stars for the Royal Oak, I would without hesitation! Nikki and Dave have the perfect combination of friendly, authentic customer service, high quality food, energetic and attentive staff and a welcoming environment that feels like a warm hug. Our first experience was after a soggy hike from the neighbouring village and Nikki, noticing I was soaked though, disappeared upstairs and came back down with dry trousers for me before serving up a hearty and delicious Sunday roast. Such was the positive impact on us that we booked up for the following Sunday, hiked over and had lunch - again, a generous serving of fine food and friendly, personal customer service. Having our young kids with us we planned to catch the bus home but Nikki offered us a lift, door to door, after our meal. Nikki always has a smile and makes you feel so welcome, Dave is a master in the kitchen and always pops out to check you have all you need - between them they have assembled a young and vibrant team to make every part of the experience perfect. We have since returned multiple times, taken my parents and our friends to enjoy the child / adult / animal friendly experience and share a homely feel that the Royal Oak offers one and all - whether for a nice, intimate drink or a 3 course meal for a family celebration! I rarely write reviews but the Royal Oak deserves recognition for simply getting it right on so many levels!

Place very nice but staff well for god sake train them a bit .. picking food “ oh we ant got that “ no not got that ! Asked whats on kids menu oh i dont know dont think we have much .. “can you please find out” no one came back had to ask again was told chicken nuggets i think “ well please go and find out” Ended up ordering Ham chips beans once i got a kids menu it come up as hame chips peas no beans was not even a apology this dinner was for my dogs by the way. I ordered fish chips peas come up well the dogs (kids) dinner had the same amount of chips the dogs had more peas and my fish was so bad never been served a bit of fish like it in a pub looked like it was out of a tesco/ iceland box and warmed up in the microwave! Yes it was soft batter 100% microwaved and for the price bloody disgusting the other meals where not good either, avoid!!!!!

Lovely local friendly pub. Staff very attentive. Wonderful atmosphere. Can definitely recommend Liver & Bacon and Steak and Kidney pudding. Sunday roasts also excellent. Very good selection of desserts. Dog friendly.

Nice food and a dedicated children's play room

We arrived without a booking on Saturday night and the staff could not have been more helpful. They squeezed us in and we had a delicious supper. Thanks very much for your very kind hospitality!

We have just enjoyed another wonderful lunch at the Royal Oak. The food is outstanding as is the service. Everything is cooked to perfection and so well presented. We are already looking forward to our next visit, as is our golden retriever who gets fussed over.

Visiting from Australia and stayed in Easterton. The Royal Oak was recommended by our hosts as a place to have dinner. Dave and Nikki,the proprietors very friendly and welcoming, and the food was lovely. The service was prompt and would definitely recommend a visit if staying in the area. Jan and Angie from Perth WA

1st visit with family for a birthday meal. We were not disappointed. Was lovely that the chef came out and spoke to us too.

Great pub not keen on prices as being from up north don't understand why brewery charge there own pubs more for beer than rival pubs

If it were possible I would give the Royal Oak six stars. The food was not only extremely good but the portions very generous. I had the steak and kidney pudding and it surpassed any I had had before except perhaps that made by my grandmother. My partner had the liver and bacon and was also delighted with her food. The vegetables were well cooked and again generous portions. Dabe was a great host and the service was wonderful.

Gave the Oak a call on the Sunday, on the off chance they could squeeze my wife and daughter in. They managed to get us a table and I so glad they could. We had Sunday Roast, I had the beef, which was so tender and obviously a fantastic piece of meat. My wife had the lamb who said it was lovely and my 5 year old daughter had the smaller option roast turkey which she polished off. The yorkshire puddings were home made and not the awful ones some places put out. The accompanying vegetables were perfect and the roast potatos were to die for! As we went to order a desert they told my daughter that because she had eaten all of her meal she could have a free ice cream of her choice. ( what a lovely touch) my wife had the chocolate fondant which was to the high standards we had had so far. I did not have a desert as I am watching my weight, but it took all the will power not to have one! The service was fast and fantastic, attentiveness was absolutely on point by the girls serving us, not to much and not too little. The prices were very fair and when I got my bill, I was presently surprised. I left a 10% tip which I would not normally do in the UK unless I get the lovely service we received.

A great local pub. Friendly and efficient. Good menu choices with reasonable prices. Also a good choice of local beers.... and also the wines are very good !!Definitely recommend. My boyfriend and I stopped by and had a wonderful time at the royal oak! Very nice atmosphere, nice people and nice staff. One of the best Sunday roasts we have ever had and food was served warm and very quickly! Absolutely recommended!

Fantastic Christmas party lunch for 18 of us. The food and hospitality was more than excellent. I had the salmon which was delicious with a variety of vegetables followed by the most enormous cheese platter ever presented, definitely a sharing plate. We were given a bespoke area and there was absolutely no rush to vacate it which made the overall experience a very strong 5 stars!

We had an excellent, delicious Sunday lunch for 15 of us for mums birthday, Nikki & Dave are fantastic hosts & made us all very welcome. The pub has a great atmosphere, even an art exhibition in one room. Even though we live over an hour away we shall definitely come back to this lovely pub as the day was such a lovely experience.

Absolutely delightful food and ambience. Fisherman’s Pie was mouthwatering and the Devon pie is worth travelling for! Our 2nd visit since Dave & Nikki took over - they really know what they are doing - friendly & professional.

Sunday roast visit. Staff friendly. Lovely traditional pub with all the traditional amenities not to busy. Table of 12 in our party n all happy with meal. Ages 4-85 in iur group. All catered for.

Another amazing lunch had at the Royal Oak. Safety of there customers are a must, my wife suffers from serious allergies but we know we can eat at the Royal Oak without fear of becoming very ill. Thank you all.

What a great pub/restaurant to visit on our short trip to Wiltshire! Despite me making a mistake with the booking date Nikki and Dave made us very welcome. We had some delicious food, a few drinks with such great service. Locals were friendly, a lovely atmosphere. Everything was perfect for my partner's birthday trip. We would love to come back one day, probably the nicest pub eatery we have ever visited. Thank you Nikki and Dave.

Great food had a mid week roast and wow it was fantastic. Beer was brilliant went well with the food . Staff and bar tender very friendly and insured we had great service. Meet fellow Welsh people here who introduced us to the locals. Can't wait to go again would fully recommend a visit to the Royal Oak.

We decided to check out this classic thatched Wiltshire Pub on a wet, windy and cold day. The welcome was warm and friendly. The food was hot and excellent. Highly recommend this classic pub.

Lovely country pub. Beer very good with an extremely reasonable choice. The food is fantastic. Delicious and cheap, especially the burger at only £8, which is an absolute bargain. Highly recommended from us.

Group of 5 cyclists had Sunday roast. They couldn’t do enough for us and the food was fantastic. This is a very different experience from what I’m used to and I cannot recommend enough. Thank you for looking after us so well.

An unexpected stop after a morning motorcycling on the Salisbury plains. Great Sunday dinner and great service in the front garden. A great way to finish the morning with a good friend. Will revisit.

Stopped off on return from visit to Urchfont. I had the midweek roast and my wife had the homity pie, truly excellent food and great value. Met Nikki and Dave (and Graham), all very friendly and we wish them all the best in their new endeavour.

Friendly staff, the food is really good, the suet pudding was freshly made and full of meat, and the liver and bacon was a really good size and cooked well ,gluten free options really good to. Would recommend.

Really good quality food, brilliant staff and a lovely atmosphere. The prices were very reasonable. Definitely would recommend and will certainly return when we are next in the area.

We stopped here on our way past on a bike ride. We didn't eat , but had some good cider and coffee. Served by a cheerful member of staff. A nice clean pub. The menu looked very good,so we shall return one day to sample it. 👍👍🍺

New landlord and landlady, both lovely, our meal was absolutely delicious and I felt very safe eating there as they were very much on the ball with allergies which was a bonus for me as I have many. Great experience.

Lovely country pub with friendly locals. Nice ride out and snacks (cheesy chips) hot and proper spuds. Very adaptable for one of our party changing her meal to meet her dietary needs. Will definitely be visiting again. The last time it was busy with slow service but food still very good.

Friendly service but long wait for 2 simple meals with only one other table being served food. Avocado in the salmon and crayfish salad was missing. Slow to bring out the avocado and it was inedible because it was unripe (rock hard). It would have been better to just say that no avocado available and offer some form of discount or free coffee.

The food served in this lovely pub is beyond belief. I drive from Bristol to eat here - it's worth it. The Royal Oak has a great menu and daily specials offering amazing variety even at lunchtime when there may be few diners. The quality of everything is excellent and I highly recommend it. The hanging baskets are pretty darned good too.

Very good service, the staff make a big effort to make you feel welcome and make sure you are being served in good time. Good choice of food which is reasonably priced and well presented. Nice atmosphere and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Drove by this pub at lunchtime and it looked so nice we turned around and went back, The village of Easterton is beautiful and it just looked so inviting. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely young lady. We didnt eat, just had a relaxing drink, but looked at the menu and it all sounded very nice and the smell coming from the kitchen was amazing. The decor was traditional with a huge fire place, and very clean toilets all on one level. Parking outside and dog friendly. All in all a lovely place, we will be going back for food.
