Lovely pub but food overpriced and disappointing. Steaks were good but x1 was served on stone cold plate - food was cold and was returned to kitchen to be ‘reheated’. Would not eat here again . Expensive and underwhelming menu.

Came here on a Friday night with family. Had a large alcove all to ourselves. Food well above average for a village pub. Beer and wine reasonably priced. Pleasant atmosphere, lovely staff. Enjoyed it so much we came back 2 days later for Sunday lunch! We only booked at the last minute and only just snuck in, after us they had to turn some customers away. Sunday lunch equally good! I would call the food slightly more expensive than most village pubs, but very much worth paying for excellent quality produce cooked and served in pleasant surroundings by people who know what they're doing.

Very disappointing. My wife and I spent nearly £100 on Sunday lunch yesterday .. and it was extremely poor. My roast beef was pure fat and inedible. Both of our lunches arrived drenched in gravy (I don't eat gravy!) We ordered a £40 bottle of wine - which was just plonked on the table. When we politely pointed these things out, our comments were met with a shrug of the shoulders and complete indifference. We have been visiting the Royal Oak for a number of years, and under the old management we were regulars. Sadly, we won't be returning.

Steak -£29 & dessert £9.50, not cheap but a nice treat for us all while away. Friendly & accommodating staff, nice rustic pub & sunny beer garden. Can thoroughly recommend. What a wonderful find! I was staying locally with family for a staycation and saw this lovely restaurant recommended highly from Tripadvisor, and it didn't disappoint. The menu was varied and had great options for all meat/fish/veggie lovers, even with one or two items being off. The burger was brilliant and the curried fish was absolutely delicious. A really lovely guy running it all and very comfortably decorated, this place is definitely worth a visit for some brilliant food, cocktails/beer and a nice evening out.

We had been loyal customers of the Royal Oak under the previous management and were shocked when it closed down in September 2023. We are delighted that it is up and running again under new management, and it was absolutely thriving when we went and had a fabulous Sunday lunch last week. Food, drink, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. If there was one thing that could be improved, it would be to get rid of the piped music. It's annoying, unnecessary and unavoidable. I really hope the Royal Oak succeeds this time round. The problem is that the village of Leighterton is tiny and cut off, so the Royal Oak has to be a destination pub that people know about and want to visit. Local custom alone won't keep it going. Let's hope that enough people come.

Love this pub! It is a great base for a good lengthy walk. We were sad to hear it had closed last year, so delighted that it has reopened, this time under new management. Wonderful service, great food (slow roast pork and winter veg pie). Enjoyed the Shangri-la beer recommended by staff. Log fires, a proper village pub, not at all snooty, but very well done and hard working staff. We immediately booked for our next visit in February!

By luck we chose this restaurant for lunch and loved it so much went again the following evening. Smiths is a charming restaurant full of character, with a number of low-ceiling rooms. We had the” scotchy burger” both times and it was absolutely sensational. Cooked to perfection, full of flavour and quite possibly the best burger I (and my wife) have ever had or could remember having (and I’ve had a few!). The cajun fries were also perfectly cooked and added a spicy side to a (moderately) spicy burger and we left wishing this place wasn’t 2 hours away! The staff were friendly , especially the young blonde lady who was so welcoming and accommodating to us and also made the delicious chocolate mousse special that we had for desert. Definitely advisable to pre-book, this place gets very busy, and deservedly so.

The bread and cakes from here are epic - really good Croissant and the Sourdough is top class - can perch indoors if you are lucky or sit outside on some rather flimsy folding chairs, either way teh coffee is very good and even better with a bun! Quality of product is the main attraction, its not a large enterprise like some of the other places nearby. Worth finding.
