We were gifted a Cambscuisine voucher for £50 and decided to come here as nearer to us plus planned a visit to Wimpole Hall as well as less then 5 miles away. Shown to table in conservatory and very attentive service from then on. We both had the 3 course set lunch menu which was very nicely cooked. Husband's bacon chop although very thick was also half fat which was a bit off putting but the sticky toffee pudding complete with home made honeycomb more than made up for it. It was a shame that our bill took 5 attempts to get it right! The voucher was not deducted at first then it was just plain wrong from then on. We asked for the service charge which in our case was £6.75 and the £1 community help to be taken off because of this. It has not put us off visiting again if in the area as very nice pub and village.

Visited while staying with friends locally. Had the Sunday roast chicken, it was really good. Vegetables were cooked beautifully, really tasty with an enormous yorkie. Would definitely return when in the area.

Frankly, we found the place uninspiring. Bland food, indifferent service and over priced for the offering. Its part of a small chain and in terms of that sort of experience Cote does it better

The service was friendly and polite, attentive but we weren't pestered. Most of us had the roast beef which was excellent and the wine was very good - clearly thoughtfully selected rather than just what they could get a good margin on. A good selection of drinks at the bar, a decent kids menu and dog friendly too. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely delicious food, great beer and a lovely wine list, very reasonably priced. We had a lovely fresh soup, superb sea bass on a curried sauce and a unique and refreshing cold rice pudding!

a really enjoyable evening even with the strange covid times we are living in.. 4 of us booked a table and all had the fish and chips with mushy peas and tartar sauce... the chef must have been happy and all the meals were piping hot and absolutely delicious.. too full for dessert but had further drinks and coffees in lounge. The staff were attentive and polite could not fault them, the whole place was clean and pristine. We lit our candle on our table for some subtle lighting . We left feeling happy to have returned to a pub we used to use many years ago saying we will be back soon... well done to the new current owners and staff.

Visited The Royal Oak to celebrate my wife’s birthday, we both chose the fish and chips (my wife had the gluten free option). Both meals arrived promptly, they were piping hot, the batter was crispy, the portion sizes were excellent. Having experienced a wide range of restaurants The Royal Oak in my opinion is on a par with my top choice (The Dun Cow at Salthouse). We both managed a dessert - my wife had creme brûlée with millionaire shortbread (gf), I had a strawberry Eton mess with vanilla ice cream. All in all excellent.

Low thick old beams a warm environment upon entering and a Christmas feel I was missing this year until I walked in here. This place has a great feel of a good old fashioned English pub in a lovely village setting. Was there for a celebration meal and didn’t disappoint. The busy atmosphere again speaks volumes on local interest and reliability with every table taken before during and after service. The menu was a change to recent and typical Christmas menus a good array of starters mains and desserts, our group all ordered different meals and all came in very generous portions and were ordered and delivered in good time by polite and busy staff. The roast beef burger has two might large Yorkshire puddings one either side of the contents action as the bun a great original feature I haven’t seen before. All cooked to perfection and enjoyed to the last bit. Accompanied by the best halloumi fries I have had. This is a great establishment with real ale on the pumps good service great food and a warm friendly place to eat or just pass for a drink recommend this place and will be returning when the chance arises .

Four of us had a meal in this pub Saturday lunch time, the food we all agreed was superb. The only down side was that the pub wasn't very warm.

Went as a group of three and we all agreed we had an above average pub meal at a reasonable price. Friendly service and good beer. It was a shame that midweek the place was almost empty.

We sat outside with some overseas friends on Saturday night and were asked at 09.30 if we wanted to use the facilities inside as they were closing. Sure enough, the doors closed at 09.40 and we, along with another table of guests, were shut outside. Another couple turned up for a drink and were amazed that the pub was shut so early on a Saturday night, so we directed them to another local pub nearby. Shame. Beer was excellent.

Most impressed with our Sunday lunch, roast chicken for me, but we all had different meats and were all happy. Best roasties I've had in a very long time and the Yorkshire pudding was huge and delicious. Good sized poptions too. Yummy sherry trifle to follow. Beautiful pub in beautiful surroundings. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Always enjoy visiting here for something to eat and drink, usually breakfast items such as a bacon and egg roll, scrambled eggs on toast. Food quality is always very good, and I think the staff there are excellent. Polite, friendly and always very helpful. Visit about two or three times a month. We have bought plants, bags of peat or compost, and I like the collection of greeting cards for sale. Always good to spend the money accumulated on the Loyalty card.

Sunday lunch. Loads of well cooked veg and tender meat. Only criticism was the vast amount of thick (bland) gravy poured over the entire meal. Would have preferred a gravy boat so could choose how much gravy to have. Unfortunately the gravy dominated all the other flavours - other wise would have been a delicious Sunday Roast. At £20 a head I would have expected delicious (non-generic) gravy that compliments the meal. Sticky toffee pudding was to die for ! Lots of warm sticky toffee sauce and a light and delicious sponge , and some lovely vanilla ice cream ! Staff were lovely , service quick and efficient. Lovely ambience. Minor tweak with the gravy recipe / and a gravy boat and would have been top marks !
