Fantastic pub, great atmosphere, friendly staff and very reasonably priced beers. Close to the Rec too, so a must visit on rugby days.

Terrible service. I was going to pick up a key to an Airbnb next door. They didn't know anything and were completely uninterested in helping.

Don’t bother. One of the most unwelcoming pubs I have been too. The bar staff was obviously very stoned. Had to talk a simple food and drink order slowly twice. Food basic. When asked for a “good whiskey” was offered Jack Daniels. Yeah don’t bother. Not welcoming to people who aren’t locals. Food was disgusting. Over cooked. Under cooked. Inedible. Gross. Only the brave would eat here. Chicken so hard you can’t get a knife through it. Steak full of gristle. Chips under cooked. Peas undercooked. Sausages over cooked. Bar staff so unwelcoming and unapproachable that we didn’t even complain. Gross.

Friendly pub and the food was lovely. Thought it was pretty reasonably priced, and I think you’d struggle to find any cheaper (non-chain) pubs in Bath. Definitely one to go back to if we visit Bath again.

Friendly pub serving delicous food. I had the pork belly cooked perfectly and not too fatty. A bit of a treat but well worth it.

Went out for celebration drinks, the average age was 16,very busy ,like being in a school playground, some of our party arrived later, around 8pm the front doors had been locked and she had to walk down a dark lane and around the back of pub, when asked why the front doors were locked it was explained that so they could I.d people!why couldn't this be done at front door???and as the average age was 16 they must have all had fake ids!used the toilet before leaving and drugs being used in there, one of our party knew one of the youngsters in there drinking and he was 15!!used to be a lovely pub shame it's now a youth club...Will not be returning

We rented an Airbnb flat next door to the pub which I understand is connected with their business. The stay was booked by a local organisation for people working at their event and visiting the city for the first time. We were asked to collect the key from the pub. The staff had no information on our booking and required us to know what was written on the key fob before handing it over. This was difficult since the flat name turned out to be different from what was on the fob. We had no way of knowing this and the staff were not helpful. This went on for around ten minutes while my very weary fellow traveller waited on the street outside with all the bags. In the end I worked out which key fob it should be but the staff didn't want to give it to me; instead it was handed to the landlady. With an attitude to customer service to rival that of Fawlty Towers, she proceeded to shout and threaten me. This was most distressing. In the end she gave up the key but with a raised voice and a warning never to enter her pub. This was not really necessary as she hardly engendered a welcoming atmosphere. There were around a dozen customers and they started jeering as I left. The landlady ensured that our party of three went elsewhere for their meals for the next two nights and the organisation has confirmed they will never use The Royal Oak or their accommodation again.

Have visited a couple of times recently to find it closed. However, went on Thursday to find it had reopened.Although there were three pumps for beer only one was operating as the other two were "Waiting to be ready". The one beer was Timothy Taylor's Landlord which is quite acceptable and was good, especially at the low price of £2.90-just a shame there was not a choice. The new person running the pub was very friendly and informative and appears to have had a lot of previous expierence.Deserves to do well, especially with those prices. No sign of any food and did not see any signs/menus displayed.

We Love the Royal Oak. Since it’s been taken over again by Simon and Tracey it’s been revolutionised! The food is fantastic. We have sampled a lot of the menu. My husband is fussy about burgers but he loves Simons homemade burger and usually orders that but he has really enjoyed some of the specials too. Including the steak and wings. As I’m a vegetarian there is a good choice for me too. I especially love the homemade pies. There is always a different selection of meat and veggie options all served with mash or chips and peas. Filled in a shortcrust pastry with delicious puff pastry top. I’m also a big fan of the homemade soups. Excellent food, excellent value and excellent portion sizes. Always too much for me! Simon and Tracey are very welcoming. Good selection of live sports and a great pub if you’re a rugby fan. We really love our local pub!

Found this open the other Thursday and went in to find a new person had just taken over. Apart from a salsman and a licencing Officer I was the only one there. There was only one beer on offer but I was told another would be coming shortly which was a Bath Ales Gem. The beer I had was resonable and not expensive. I understood that at the moment food was not being served.

A gem of a pub. There aren't too many traditional pubs left in Bath. Great place to visit, roughly 5 mins walk from the train station and close to Widcombe high street. Decent pool table with new felt, see if the landlord Bertie will give you a game. I've lost count of the times he's beaten me now! There's a dartboard and skittle alley and a good range of beers, lagers and food. It's very close to Bath's rugby ground so it's always packed on game days

There were very few people in the bar in December while the Christmas market was on - not so odd once you've been there. We were not welcomed warmly (or at all) by a barmaid who definitely didn't want to be there. The menu looked ok but the staff didn't seem to want you to eat and made you feel a nuisance. I imagine most people get the same welcome which deters you from eating - shame as its actually quite nice inside.

Unfortunately a mass booking 2 months in advanced for 32 people, for a Christmas meal, did not go to well. The food was not as per the menu, frozen unseasonal vegetables, no pigs in blankets and as for the gravy, it certainly didn't see any red wine or onions. There was also no cheese board, tea or coffee. Offered. Very very disappointing.

.....for what I could appreciate the place is casual, offers many reception solutions (bar, sport-room TV, patio, garden), it is not expensive. In the patio, perhaps the best solution because it away from the traffic of P St .... that especially in certain hours is remarkable.

Recently held a Skittles Night Social Event at The Royal Oak. Excellent facility, very straightforward to book; Sarah returned my emails efficiently and finding there were two alleys was a bonus! Those who ordered food enjoyed it, jealously looked on by those who didn't! We had a great evening, will definitely be back and would recommend to others. Thanks Sarah

I visited the cafe yesterday for afternoon tea, and was disappointed both by the service (we had to wait about 15 minutes for our tea) and also by the lack of variety and high price of food compared to previous cafe. I am also disappointed that there is no (or very little) outdoor seating as I used to enjoy sitting outside. On the plus side, it is nicely decorated and still has the nice outlook!

I wish my local was as friendly! Came in on a busy Friday during the Christmas Market and was welcomed warmly. The food was top-notch and the beer well kept. I had the fried chicken which was succulent and tender and my husband had the egg, gammon and chips. Sublime! They did a fantastic pint of Bath Gem! This is a place to return to.
