I would have loved to have given this pub a higher rating. We came here a year or so for lunch and had it marked as a possible stop off whenever we were passing through. First the good points. Atmosphere ok, staff very friendly, food very good and generous portions. The not so good. A very stale and unpleasant smell throughout the building, the wall benches looked as though they were covered with throw overs which were not only grubby and in dire need of a wash, but they smelled of stale bodies. The whole pub is in need of a makeover and a refresh which would greatly enhance the atmosphere and interior, if this happened I would give it at least a 4 pip rating maybe even a higher one. As it stands I doubt if we will revisit, but........ a great pity.

Had dinner last night as anniversary treat. Lovely pub with very welcoming, hospitable staff. Garlic mushrooms as starter was excellent. Mains of chicken galette and a sharing platter (probably not enough for 2) of ciabatta, tomatoes with olive oil dressing( wife commented need some balsamic dressing as well) parma ham, chicken skewers and chorizo sausage , all was delicious. No room for pud unfortunately. Would highly recommend.

Absolutely fantastic! The staff are fantastic I have dietary problems and they was brilliant with me. The food is absolutely delicious! I had a burger and it was cooked to perfection. They are homemade burgers and they really are delicious! The pub/restaurant it self it's lovely and vintage and the atmosphere is jolly and great! I also can highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding it's beautiful! I would give this place more stars if I could. Thank you to all the staff are visit was great!

Four of us and our dog stopped here for evening meal. Disappointed to find that two of our starters and a main unavailable. What we did have was good and portions were on the large side. Real ale and wine all good. We ate outside where there is a nice garden.

We were looking for a meeting point where we could relax with our dogs and our relatives. We chose this pub and we were surprised as the garden is well laid out, excellent seating not too close to each other. Then we ordered food, it was very very good. We will be back very soon. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Best bit, it has become a Free House, great beer too.

The Crown is such a nice pub the three people (2xF, 1xM) working behind the bar on Saturday evening 20th July were exceptional, super friendly, helpful and really hard working. The food was different from your usual pub fare but the butternut squash and beetroot cobbler was one of the best pub meals I’ve had in a long time. Popped back in there Sunday afternoon and sat in the sunshine in their large and quirky garden. This is the sort of pub I’d love as my local and that says it all. Thanks and well done to all involved

£23 for fish and chips you off yr head. No P. No Battery on my fish. Service was rubbish to. There say the customer is always right.but not here.. What's a complete rip off...

Stopped off here to get refreshments as we had been hiking for a couple of hours. Decide to have a pint of lager which was very nicely welcomed. Then, we decided we would have a bite to eat, which was garlic mushrooms with potatoes skinned fries. I had 10 mushrooms, and my wife had 9, so I thought, what a bonus that was until I got the aftertaste. Couldn't really taste the garlic, but was left with a taste of fat🤢. The mushrooms were £9.00 plus bowl of fries for £4.00. Now I don't mind paying good money as long as I get a good return, which I clearly didn't. I could have complained, but this would have only been a resolution for myself and my wife. I feel that if you are in a position of serving food, then it should always be presentable and tasty. Please take guidance from this to help other customers enjoy their meals.

A delicious pub meal in the garden on a summer's evening, returning with our Dad who lived in the village in the 1940s! Lovely staff and good service. Would definitely recommend and hope to return one day Very grateful to the chef for the wide selection of GF food on the menu, as a coeliac this was greatly appreciated. Thank you.

We visited The Crown while on a barge holiday. There were six of us and we were all impressed. The staff were friendly and the service good. As for the food it was well cooked and presented well. I had the slow cooked pork and it was tender and well cooked. We all said we would definitely return if in the area again. I would highly recommend The Crown.

Dropped in as we were passing the day after a night out. Good welcome, nice beer garden, good food. Wonderful interior decor including marvelous antique cat replicas (not actually taxidermy!) #frescos

We have visited this restaurant on Bank holiday Sunday. I have picked 3 item from the menu , what was not available. Then we ordered a stake - what was £20 but the portion was a smallest I ever seen not even peppercorn sauce. I ordered Veggie burger ,what was so plain, no flavour, no noting. Was so disappointed as it was nice traditional pub, and for that price , I would expect more and better quality.

A really lovely country pub. Delicious Sunday roast with small or large options. The garden is gorgeous with plenty of seating and a Wendy house for the kids. Would heartily recommend this place, it’s lovely!!!!

Stayed in Batheaston for a few days and visited here 3 times. Good food, drink and service. Was nice also that they had a good selection of zero alcohol beers/ciders too.

It was early mid week - so quiet. Friendly attentative staff. Good menu variety. Delicious, well cooked food. Certainly will visit again.

Nice garden, shaded from the sun. Good choice of beer. Disappointing that they had run out of basic food items, Saturday going into a bankholiday weekend - Burger buns and Bacon.

What a joy to see standards are being kept up in this splendid place. My Wife and I brought Her Dad here a while ago. He was a Chelsea Pensioner and dressed in His full scarlet uniform brought the whole pub to a standstill. The generosity and respect shown by the (then) staff has stayed with Us. Had great vegan burgers, excellent beer and service! 10/10, perfect way to end a long walk up from Bath.

Great little pub worth a visit,staff were friendly

A good local pub for a drink but the food isn't great, particularly considering the price point. The vegetarian food really isn't good at all and the kids tomato pasta is just a tin of chopped tomato's poured over spaghetti.....no effort made to produce a decent sauce. Another small gripe is that the ancient Heinz Ketchup bottles are obviously refilled with a cheap brand. The bar staff are always good.....attentive and chatty. My real issue lately is that there is clearly someone on site who either lives or works there.....perhaps both, who smokes weed and the pub stinks of it! I have no problem with someone doing so but I don't need to smell it around the bar area while I'm with my family. Unfortunately it's meant us heading a little further to the Northey Arms.

Fabulous experience! Amazing Sunday Roast!

We organised for 30 friends a get together for a big birthday. There was another birthday party on the other side of the pub. This did not detract from the service and quality. The food was prompt and delicious. The personable service was brilliant and everyone remarked how lovely the evening was. Thank you The Crown.

We booked a table last Sunday at short notice. The staff were very friendly, and helpful. The food was delicious, hot and a very varied menu especially for a a Sunday menu. The staff where friendly and welcoming and they accommodated all 4 adults and a baby in a High Chair. Highly recommended.

Fantastic gastro pub (dog friendly) to come and have lunch with Friends and family. Great homemade ingredients,(try the Lamb or chicken burger, you won’t be disappointed) really relaxed atmosphere with great staff. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Been passing this pub for 3 years , called in for lunch today 2 of us , pleasantly surprised , nice decor and a good menu! Open fires made the difference , we are fairly local and will call by again ! Thanks guys .

Absolutely lovely place, popped in on our way to centre parcs and got a table straight away, nice and busy with a cozy friendly atmosphere, dog was welcome too! What can I say about the food…… amazing 10/10 we had sausage and mash aswell as steak and chip and woooow…delicious, will definitely go back! Well worth the 30 min drive! Thank you

For well over a decade now I have been writing for Trip Advisor; at the age of 62 I have been dining out for more years than I care to remember. We came to Bath for a few days break before the Christmas rush just for a bit of a break. We have stayed next door for four nights. For the first time, EVER, we have found ourselves dining at the same location for four nights consecutively ! The Crown for us has ticked all the boxed and provided enough variety of menu to sustain us for a differing dining experience each of the four nights. The quality of the food and the quality of the service is second to none. Today, Sunday, they were totally booked out for Sunday Lunch and frankly this does not happen if you are just average. We dined this evening and I had steak. For £19 this was very good indeed and superbly cooked. The annual decorations for Christmas complimented the pub so superbly and as a further treat we had live music on Thursday night. This happens every Thursday and is quite an experience, some pictures here along with food pictures. In short there have been a few negative comments but these are so far from our experiences. It looks like The Crown are now going to get very busy for Christmas and this alone speaks volumes. If you can get by for even just a drink do pop in you’ll love it. If however you can stay for a meal I can add you will not be disappointed. We have stayed next door at The Cedars (which you will find me writing about elsewhere) which is a very short bus ride from the City of Bath centre and only £1.50 single. The combination of these two experiences has been superb.

Lived in Bath for years & has never been inside until yesterday. What a great place! Lad behind bar was friendly, very accommodating & provided excellent service. Food was delicious and the chef took full account (and more) of my (numerous) dietary needs. Thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. Prices very reasonable in my opinion.

DISAPPOINTED WITH THE CROWN AS WE WERE RECOMMENDED TO TRY IT. MENU WAS DISAPPOINTING. LIMITED SELECTION OF MEALS. FOOD WAS OKAY/AVERAGE. HAD 5 OR 6 ZERO BEERS TO CHOOSE FROM WHICH WAS GOOD AS WE WERE DRIVING. FELT LIKE THE PLACE HAD SEEN BETTER TIMES.

Great local pub friendly staff good food. Full of character and more often than not characters.

Went for a Sunday lunch with friends. Absolutely beautiful food. The portions were amazing (though 2 Yorkshire puddings would have been better!) and everyone praised the vegetables. Service was impeccable and we even had puddings as we didn't want to leave. 2 and a half hours later we headed home very full and very happy. Well worth the drive.

Watched South Africa vs New Zealand rugby 🏉 match 🎉🎉 a World Cup final. Nice place to watch - maybe the television could be bigger for sports matches

I can definitely recommend the food, but the service was very slow as the poor barmaid was on her own, she was working so hard. That said the food was great and we really like the feel of the place, a proper pub, plus it's dog friendly which wax perfect for us. Food not overpriced.

The super classic pub, very good!! Very typical of the area and the kindness of the Argentine bartender made everything very easy for us, the food was super delicious and very good price quality!! highly recommended

We were very fortunate to win a dinner for two at a recent Breast Cancer fundraiser, that had been donated by The Crown. The staff were super helpful and friendly. The Guinness was well poured and tasted great. The vegetable soup tasted home made, the mussels were as always fantastic. The croque monsieur with chips and salad was a large portion and very tasty. Definitely recommend The Crown to any visitors to Bathford.

Popped in for a quick snack, polite lady behind the bar, large choice of dishes on the menu, will visit again when in the area.

Staff were lovely & service was good but unfortunately we had to send back one of our meals. It was a simple dish - sausage & mash - hard to get wrong, but the sausages were dried out and the skin was burnt black. When a replacement meal came out, sadly it was much the same.

They were able to accommodate an 11 person walk in on a Friday evening. The service and food were excellent.

The food was amazing on the both nights we ate there. The ladies who served us drinks and food were amazing. Really welcomed us like locals.

The food was nice and the service was friendly to begin with. I then found a big blue fly cooked inside my chicken pie, so I sent it back to the kitchen, the chef told me it wasn't their fault and must have got in while I was eating it, which it 100% did not. Pretty awful response to a mistake in the kitchen. And then they still asked me to pay £17 for the pie which I could only eat half of. Really disappointing end to a nice experience initially.

Booked a table for a Sunday Roast Up, a small family celebration for my other half’s birthday. Unique setting, great menu & attentive staff who worked phenomenally as team. Food was ace & generously portioned for the price, will definitely be back.

Very popular local pub and comfortably scruffy if you like that kind of thing. French influences with food. Bit like a French local cafe in a village. The beef Borgnine was a bit of a disappointment, the jus should have been reduced to improve the flavour and presentation ( watery stew) The mussels in wine and garlic were also disappointing . Lovely fat mussels in watery fluid ( couldn’t taste wine or garlic and a ton of onions) The chips however were fab! Saw others having burgers which looked substantial. Very laid back and bit grubby. Our table was so sticky I couldn’t rest my arm on it, kind of put me off. If you want a very relaxed informal eatery then this would suit you, for us we scored it 5/10.

What a great little pub, glad we stopped for lunch (Sunday) after driving past many many times. And we will again! The food was delicious and home made with love, the staff we friendly and polite (particularly Louis), and the pub was that perfect mix of homely British boozer and well dressed cottage style. Dreadful service, staff seem distracted and more interested in chatting with each other than serving customers, over 45 mins wait on a quiet evening from starter to main. Food is either microwaved boiling hot or mildly warm. The kids pasta was disgusting tasting and needs fixing, I wouldn't feed it to the gulls let alone my son. A real shame and a big let down of a meal, as the pub has great character and design, but it clearly needs a boot up the backside from management and a better chef in the kitchen. Don't market yourself as a Bistro pub if you're only a half arsing it.

Unfortunately this lovely place is very neglected. Food was average at best. Took a good while to come out despite place being virtually empty. Sadly the omelette was so overcooked it had become to chewy and tastless, partners meal also overcooked amd tough to eat, both strangly seemed to have been reheated. Tired decor and just in need of a lot of tlc.

Driven past this pub tens of times and never stopped... I've been missing out all this time! Such a cool interior, good selection of beers (and spirits) and finally delicious yet reasonable food! Lamb stew special was delicious, I'll definitely be back again!

On our arrival to Bath and as we were staying next door, we decided to head here for dinner. Very large pub, service was very welcoming and friendly and good food. Considering they were short staffed the evening we visited, the barmaid did a fantastic...

Roast was absolutely awful. The sirloin steak was fatty and tough and not at all what you put with a roast dinner and for 19 pounds it was so awful! The vege was on its last legs and so sad! The potato’s were old boiled new potatoes which had been microwaved days later and the Yorkshires had come out of the freezer and a plastic packet and packet gravey only ate as I was absolutely starving
