What a beautiful and friendly pub! Everyone was so lovely and our digs had a special treat each! Thank you! Definitely coming back.

Great village pub. Very friendly vibe and they serve a great pint.

Kitchen was closed on bank holiday so can't comment on the food but decent selection of drinks and good sized beer garden out back. Very small car park though.

Stopped briefly for a quick drink on my way out. Small bottle of Prosecco was £7.50 which I felt was a little bit on the steep side. The lady at the bar was friendly but I don't think I'd stop here for food seemed more of a hangout drinks place 🤷🏻‍♀️

Great atmosphere on the night we visited due to having a band on and all the locals were friendly and engaging. We didn’t have food as we’d already eaten. Plenty of beer choices and great outdoor space.

We recently had a Christening party in the lovely garden area, the outside bar was opened for us and we were allowed to bring our own food and to decorate. The team were really helpful and friendly. A great place to have a private party would thoroughly recommend.

Seems a fine place, although kitchen was closed today and only one real ale.

It's ok much the same as any pub these days struggling to stay afloat. Drop the tax on beer by half and they might stand a chance.

Lovely pub garden food is nice pub grub. However full of groups noisey 18 year old plus! Howvever they did not cause any trouble. Just having fun.

Ongoing modernisation making this a lovely pub to visit with family and friends. New garden area is cooler than you'd think in current weather and a cold drink to help it along. Well worth a visit for families! Shout out to Andrew and the Caribbean food on offer, mutton dumplings and honey chicken have to be tried to be believed.

The Caribbean food at this pub is insanely good. Chicken is soft and the jerk seasoning is amazing. Would highly recommend and Andrew the chef is very welcoming and friendly most of all an amazing chef

Had Sunday lunch there yesterday. It was great I think the best Sunday roast I have had for a long time. Good choice of meat as well as plenty of vegetables all nicely cooked especially the crispy roast potatoes.

What a lovely pub with a brilliant beer garden, it's huge! Perfect for sunny days. The chef was very friendly and accommodating too. Just how pubs should be.

Lovely place to see friends and have a booze up

One of the last two pubs in the village. A more classy approach to the village pub. With cocktails on tap, a vast gin selection Youll have a great evening. Music events occasionally happen on fridays (post covid). Prices are on the higher side, and last orders are at 10:45 every evening which is very disappointing if you actually expected a 'night' out.

The gentleman that was singing, assuming to be management spoke to a female member of staff in her face, was disgusted to see such appalling actions, I will not be coming back and will not recommend this pub at all

Was in tonight for a quick visit and witnessed who I assumed to be the general manager start shouting right into the face of one of the female staff members face and proceeded to make her upset for no apparent reason! In front of all of the customers. Disgraceful behaviour from the management!

We both had a pub lunch here. Scampi & Chips. Very nice. I am disabled so walking is a problem The staff were very helpful took our order from the table brought the drinks over and shortly after our meals. Sorry no photo taken of the meal. It looked good. Smelt good. And by golly it tasted good

Although this pub seems to be paying' lip service' to social distancing as in posters up and signs, there was absolutely no social distancing of any kind. I am sure the staff were doing their best in trying to keep tables & bars clean but there were just too many people in there for this to make a difference. Very small toilet too (no signs up to say if toilet was being occupied)... just common sense stuff really.

Did not stay long as they were apparently fully booked for lunch (even tho it was already 15h and there were several tables free). Certainly not the friendliest place i've been too!

They have cameras in the pub and listen to customers conversations!! If they don't like what you say then you're barred!! Might want to avoid.

Sunday roast amazing. Homemade yorkshire pudding mmmmm amazing. Recommend pre book table at the weekend. Great pub very friendly, service was briĺlant. Also fantastic value for money, as very affordable prices

Since the managment change on this pub, it has turned around 100%. Exactaly what this village has been crying out for. We tend to eat out every Sunday and have tried every Sunday Lunch within a 10 mile radius. The Royal Oak is now the hands down favourite and my husband refuses to go anywhere else. The puddigs are just to good to even describe in words. Well done to the staff.

Totally out of order landlord and landlady

We are only a small company and therefore didn't want a big party night for Christmas.Having been in the pub late Sept we saw the Xmas menu being advertised so we booked.We didnt need to leave a deposit or pre order as there were only 6 of us and they didn't do this here which concerned me a litte as everywhere seems to do this at this time of year.We had been sent a copy of the Xmas menu which looked lovely with 3-4 choices for each course so something to suit most.We attended last night and were given the usual pub menu which also had the xmas bits on too.We were told we could actually have anything on the menu, not just xmas stuff which was a real treat and nice surprise! Not one of our party ended up with any of the Xmas food as we all chose something else.This was brilliant ! The food was of an excellent quality , the chips certainly were fabulous! It was all piping hot, arrived together and really tasty.We had starters, main and pudding and not one complaint was made.The service was absolutely brilliant, the bar staff and waiting staff a real credit to the pub.Nothing was too much trouble, water jugs kept filled on the table, plates taken away etc and it really was service with a smile.Thank you so much for a great evening and I certainly will revisit here in the future with friends and family.

I went to the royal oak last night with my work colleagues we were a party of eight and had their christmas menu. The food was the best I have tasted in a very long time. The girls who served us were lovely and always made sure we had everything we needed. I will always recommend you now. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Decently cooked pub grub and really lovely service. The staff member was cheery, friendly and swift. Cosy surroundings. One thing though: I had a pint of abbot ale which was REALLY rough. Probably a one off I'm sure.

Amazing quality food at a great price! you would be paying double for what you get at some places! the front of house team are great and couldn't be more helpful! Also it has a nice garden.

Five of us had a very nice lunch. Three had fish and chips and two fried halloumi. All of our meals were tasty and large portions. Service was efficient and friendly.

I have started using this pub again as it seemed to have turned the corner with a nice atmosphere, good food and good service. However over the last couple of weeks The rowdiness has started to return with loud lads/dads and much swearing. Mainly from the public bar but also in the main bar where food is served. Whilst the food is good I would not recommend eating here unless you can get into the back room. Otherwise you will be seated in the main bar and maybe next to a very noisy table. But the clincher that would spoil any meal is that the manager and staff allow vaping in the pub. Last week there was a table of two eating in the main bar with a table of drinkers next to them covering the eaters with vape clouds. Let’s say, the look on their faces meant they would not be returning any time soon. The manager needs to rethink his/her priorities. Either be the good gastro pub you started to be and want to be, or go back to being a crass noisy sports bar. You cannot be both!

Was a good meal, all the items we commented on in the first review from Easter had been addressed apart from the excess water power in the gents loo! We will return soon.

What a gem for the village! Pub serves a great selection of gins and the food is delightful!! Can’t fault the bar snacks; best calamari we have eaten! We have also eaten from the normal menu and had Sunday lunch and would highly recommend!

My mum and I popped in here for a quick bite to eat on the way through Barton. My mum recommended it since it's been changed and renovated. There are lots of nice seating areas in the restaurant and we recieved a really warm welcome. The menu looks fab and we decided to have a sharing platter. We chose 3 dishes and had pork belly bites, dumplings and goats cheese in breadcrumbs. They were all delicious, especially the dumplings which came recommended! I didn't catch the lady's name who served us, but she was so lovely and friendly. Will definitely return some time for an evening meal. It's great having somewhere else nice to eat in the village.

What a transformation. This pub had a bad reprutation but under the new team its now a lovely friendly place for the whole family with great food and warm friendly service. We had a table of 9 and all agreed it was a great lunch

Visited the Royal Oak with 10 ex-Keep Fit group friends to mark several birthdays.We had heard good reports and were keen to find somewhere local that catered for various options. We were not disappointed, in fact the value of the Diamond Diners menu was amazing. Francesca was happy to make slight changes to a couple of the meals and the quantity was just right and of a higher standard than you usually expect from "pub grub". Our table was well placed and we have already talked about having our Christmas "get-together" there. Highly recommended. Thanks to the team.

Called in on the off chance for a late lunch. We were in luck because Tue-Thurs they offer Diamond Lunches £10 for two or £14 for three courses. It was perfect & great value too. The tea & coffee were served with big bites of fudge too which was an extra treat too

Had a lovely Sunday dinner, empty plates all round service was fantastic along with free table water, not a massive menu but what's on it comes out delicious and is quality.

We have randomly just stopped at the Royal Oak and was greeted by lovely staff that waited on our table outside in the beautiful sunshine. The sunday roasts was beautiful and came out very quickly. Highly recommend this pub.

So good had to come back and check out the roast. Great atmosphere, friendly faces and nice decor. Lemon curd was the better than some high-end London restaurants. Supreme flavor.

We've just returned from 'date night' - having had a really good meal at the Royal Oak in Barton. The young couple who have just taken it over really deserve to be a success - the bar snacks, which we had as a starter, were excellent - the calamari was exceptional - and the mains were cooked to perfection and served beautifully - with good wine and beer and starched table linen. There is a cheerful public bar, which was buzzing on a Friday evening,an unpretentious lounge bar where we took the dog and had our meal, and a restaurant area, with decent acoustics, which is rare nowadays! We will definitely be going back - the Sunday lunch looks like a good deal too. Nice to find a little gem - give them a go !

The Royal Oak has recently been taken over and the change has been incredible. The new restaurant food and bar tapas are a triumph, the service is fantastic and we've been back many times since. Keep up the good work!

It's had a refurbishment and a lovely job done,they are trying to change the customers as the reputation was not nice. But hopefully it will turn out good. All the best.xx

Pleased to see the pub has been upgraded and a good menu choice is available, Francesca and her team work well together being attentive and friendly. Having heard the pub had changed management we have visited a couple of times for a drink and was pleasantly surprised to see a change in clientele, decor and a good choice of food available. We tried a selection of tapas 3 for £12.50 which were excellent and ordered three more.

We went to the grand reopening on Good Friday. We had been looking forward to a fresh place to eat at, the build up of how good this place will be had raised expectations.

This pub used to be good, but recently not so. The last two occasions I have been there, they have run out of Greene King IPA. It's not managed properly. A great shame.

Had a pizza, came without any cutlery nor anything else, warm and not very tasty. In th3 evening on a Friday up to about 21:00, lots of lads and dad lads trying to shout and swear more than the others. Beer passable but not the best. Red wine, left on table, undrinkable, worse than vinegar.
