The Royal Oak in Staffordshire Moorlands

Absolutely wonderful meal, there were 4 of us and we all couldn’t fault any part of the main. We all had puddings and they were delicious. What made the meal so special was the waitress she was a great asset to the pub. We will definitely be returning 🤗

We went up on Easter Sunday at teatime , nice couple of local ales on handpump, friendly servers and the food was top notch, very tasty and presented nicely , puddings were excellent too , we will be back .

Great fresh delicious food, good choice of local produce and ales, friendly staff, there’s a selection of games/books for the children to use 👍

I called here with a friend for a light lunch. Yesterday. We had parsnip soup and beautiful delicious sandwiches !! Very friendly staff !! Lovely views from where we sat unfortunately it was raining !! What a surprise , but it didn’t spoil the view . I will be visiting soon for Sunday lunch this time with my furry friends too !! Best Sunday dinner I’ve ever had, was told the head chef called James, the best Sunday dinner I’ve ever tasted, dauphinoise are a game changer on a roast, the best gravy I’ve ever had and not to mention the massive Yorkshire puddings. It’s a credit to the local area. Recommend it to anyone.

Visit with family for Sunday lunch. Food excellent. They do a small lunch as well as a regular, which was ideal for my Mum. Very attentive, friendly staff. We all enjoyed our meals, they even put extra crumble topping on the crumble!

We were stopping at Lake Rudyard nearby and visited twice during our stay, this is a brilliant and friendly country pub. We had the chicken burger and venison pie of the day on our first visit and then the Ox cheek and a BLT on our second visit. The food was incredible. We had our young dog with us on both visits and the staff there were so good with him, George was on shift both times and really looked after us. Shame we weren’t in the area on a Sunday as their roast sound amazing. Really do recommend visiting.

What a hidden gem we stumbled upon on the way home this evening! The pub itself is beautifully decorated for Christmas - we had not booked but thankfully for us there was space! We were seated by a warm log burner and our order taken quickly. There was lots of choice on the menu and I was pleased to see multiple well thought out vegetarian options! I had the vegetarian lobby and my partner the chicken burger - both portions very generous and delicious! We rang family on the way home to tell them about it and recommend they visit! Thank you for a lovely meal! We’ll definitely be returning :)

DO NOT PLAY HERE/SING, THE MANAGER DOES NOT PAY ARTISTS AND PRETENDS HE DIDNT HAVE IT BOOKED. The manager booked an artist in December 2023 twice, all was good until the manager then claims he didn't know of the second booking even though it was AGREED via messenger with the pub and was RE AFFIRMED TWICE! The manager has refused to pay out or even a cancellation fee; the pub is now being taken to a small claims court where they will be paying a lot of money now in fees. IF YOU HAVE BEEN BOOKED THEN DO NOT PLAY HERE THE MANAGER IS A CONMAN.

We had a really delicious Valentine’s meal from The Royal Oak, Rushton. The dipping chocolate was amazing ❤️Everything was beautifully cooked and packaged really well.

We wanted to support our local community pub on the first night of their lockdown takeaway service. The food on offer tonight was Lebanese: lamb koftas with all the trimmings, with a vegetarian alternative and a choice of desserts. To say we weren’t disappointed is a massive understatement: it was all absolutely delicious and very authentic, and very filling. The ordering and collection process was very straightforward and the cost was very reasonable. Well done to all at the Royal Oak. We’ll be back!

My wife and I decided to have a fine dining take away last night . We had Lamb Kofta meal with delicious sides , coleslaw sweet corn relish flatbreads and more .Arranged collection for 18:15 . The food was ready bang on time, and eating the food was a totally delicious experience. The price was very reasonable for the meal we ate .Will definitely do it again while takeaway is available, as soon as restrictions allow we will book a table and enjoy a meal on the beautiful premises..Well done and good luck to the Royal Oak .

Had COVID 19 lockdown 2 takeaway tonight. Lebanese. Absolutely amazing food. Easy COVID friendly pick up service. Looking forward to our next takeaway.

Lovely relaxing atmosphere, nice and warm, food excellent, staff attentive, cocktails lovely according to my wife, when the staff realised it was my wife’s birthday they offered her a complimentary cocktail which was very thoughtful, despite celebrating a birthday during a pandemic we had a really great afternoon thanks to the Royal Oak!

Lockdown 2.0 means the pub is shut at the moment but they are doing takeaways. Treated ourselves to four takeaway Sunday roasts (3x beef, 1x turkey) at a tenner each, well worth it and tasty too. Easy to collect so you should feel COVID safe. Highly recommended. Definitely will be using this service again.

A wonderful Sunday lunch in a friendly and relaxing pub at the Royal Oak. The service was attentive and staff were both friendly and helpful. We wanted a delicious Sunday lunch and were not disappointed! My roast pork belly was crisp and succulent and arrived beautifully presented, as were my companions' roast beef with Yorkshire, and turkey with the trimmings. Plenty of perfectly cooked veg were served alongside with a welcome jug of extra gravy. We would definitely recommend lunch here.

Sunday lunch amazing - Portobello gin very tasty. Fishfinger sandwich with mushy peas, tartare sauce and chunky chips for mid-week lunch - lovely. Lemon drizzle cake - melts in your mouth. I will definitely be returning.

My husband and myself went for a meal. We felt cozy as soon as we walked in. Food was just amazing. So welcoming place, can’t wait to go back again.

Drove past loads of times whilst it was sadly closed. But saw the doors open today, so just had to call in for a look. All covid precautions in place, loads of space, very clean , friendly welcome and bar pries very resonable. Try the Gin of the Month, Portobello Road gin..lovely

Booked a table here last minute and so glad I did. Every part of the experience was fantastic. The food is presented in a quality gourmet style and tasted amazing. The service was warm and friendly. I will definitely be visiting here again next time I travel to the Peak District. I had the beef whilst my partner had the pork belly. Both were beautiful and couldn’t be improved. It’s got a old rustic pub feel about it, but the food certainly is new age, 5 star restaurant quality. You won’t be disappointed!

A very safe environment, Covid-19 measures in place, no reason not to go, very friendly and attentive staff.

This place is currently going through a kitchen refurb, but it’s honestly not affected our visit in the slightest. We ordered some vegan food, to be told the chef was currently working on a fresh new dish! It was delicious. We enjoyed it so much. But! The chips! They are to die for. We recommend getting the chips with whatever food you order. These guys are working really hard to give us good food, good beer and a smile. We will be back. What an absolute treat. For vegans and non vegans alike.

Just been to the Royal Oak for a family meal and it was fantastic! The food was tasty and promptly served and portion sizes were just right. Undergoing refurbishment at the moment, which is updating the interior. This is a brilliant little pub which was saved by the community. Will definitely be going again.

Saturday 1st Feb. Despite a number of signs saying that they were open for lunches and times given via Trip Advisor, this pub was CLOSED at lunchtime. A number of other people turned up while we were there and got turned away. No idea what the food was like. Publicity and communications poor!

4 of us arrived into a cold room, the fire only just about alive. One of our party tried to make it burn without success. The manager was in jeans and t-shirt and spent most of the time on his mobile phone. The food was just OK. We were the only ones in and after cooking for us, the chef went home! We were scoping for a booking of a large party later - needless to say we went elsewhere. We know this is a much loved, community owned pub - so the committee needs to take note, we'd hate to see it go.

After waiting 45 mins due to short staffing, our meal arrived. Nice and hot and very tasty. Staff were friendly and polite. Lovely olde world atmosphere. Will return

Apparently, new management took over in May 2019, with a new approach. A free house with a good range of beers. Fresh food, instead of rows of freezers in the kitchen. What a difference! A friendly welcome. Food order promptly taken. Good food was soon put in front of us and served with a smile, very friendly staff! Good value for money too. We will be back.

Walked around Rudyard Lake with the intention of a visit for lunch.I'm glad we did! A friendly welcome from the two ladies behind the bar and presented with lunchtime menus. Served promptly with our ordered drinks and meal orders duly taken. Good food was soon put in front of us and served with a smile, very attentive staff! After some light hearted banter with a couple of locals (Farmers) we gladly paid our bill and continued our walk.Recommended hostelry in the heart of the Cheshire Countryside that we will certainly return to again!

We visited for lunch on the final day of our first family holiday to the Peak District with our 7 month old baby. The owner was very friendly - we felt instantly welcomed. There was a great selection of food available and some lovely dishes on the specials board. I opted for the vegetarian burrito which came with a delicious salad and chips. My husband opted for the burger. Both of us were pleased with the quality of the food. Hugely recommended for a visit if you're in the area.

First visit for food since Ollie has a new chef. Great meal. Delicious pie with proper pastry and a warm chocolate brownie to die for. Highly recommended. All our meals were good with friendly service.

Called in for a roast on Sunday - More than worth the hours drive from Manchester :) Ollie and the staff made us feel so welcome , very attentive , nice community feel about the place. The roast was amazing - ample size pieces of good quality beef, brilliant roast spuds - as well as buttery boiled! Veg was nice and fresh - cooked perfectly. Yorkshire puddings were top notch - so good I needed 2! And the gravy .... WOW!! Followed up by sticky toffee pudding with lashings of custard. Compliments to John the chef - if I could have you cook for me everyday I would! Thank you all again for the hospitality, we will definitely be back soon! Xx

Olly and the team have recently moved from the knot, so thought we would try the Oak out. Menu was a bit limited , so hopefully that will improve in time. We all had pie, which was excellent, though a bit too much gravy in it. It also had mushrooms in, which I hate, a proper menu may have pointed this out but at the moment, its just on a blackboard. The chips were outstanding and veg nicely cooked, though no butter required please !

I visited for lunch when passing and was disappointed, I had heard good reports previously and thought it would be good value. The food was poorly presented more acceptable in a Cafe! Whilst I don't mind paying around £12 for a main course but not for something that I would say resembled a kids meal.

We called in for Sunday Lunch and found the service to be 1st class and the food excellent.

We were staying the night at Heaton House Farm 5 minutes up the road and popped in for evening meal after travelling most of the day. The staff were very friendly, helpful and we had a lovely meal. Our son and soon to be daughter in law met up with us the following day and we went there again for lunch. We would recommend eating here and look forward to visiting again.

called in for tea on the way home from work,the place was empty ordered a dish that had a lemon sauce on it ,,the sauce was so strong and smeared all over the dish, it made it uneatable ,spoke to the lady who served us ,she says she would speak to the chef ..and thats as far as it got ,no reduction ,no apologies ,so guess what.. no go again

Ordered seafood pasta and Madras curry. The seafood pasta was excellent. The Madras was awfull! The colour of green chip shop curry sauce, thick with peas the only veg in it about as thick and spicey as porridge. The worst meal I have tried to eat since school dinners. I told the chef it wasn't very good and he offered to knock it off the bill. I told him I would pay for half of it.

As above. My wide & and I have visited the Royal Oak many times & been very satisfied: however next month it changes hands so we cannot advise what the future will hold

Really enjoyed dining at the Royal Oak recently. They've had a change of chef, the food was the best I've had here! I had baked camembert cheese followed by pork in a brandy and apple sauce! Delicious! Well done team royal Oak. I highly recommend you all to call in and try "The Oak" - the hub of the village in Rushton Spencer!

We went to the Royal Oak as relatives had visited and said it was a nice place.

Whilst there was nothing particularly wrong before, the new chef has bought the Oak up to rivals standards. We had the gammon, sea bass and stewed beef, all lovely, both in taste and good portion size. Hopefully this will continue and hope to return to eat soon. Cask beers were ok on the night, the abbot being average, it was much better on quiz night.

Been in for a drink but never eat here, they have a new chef & the menu looked very appealling. My partner is a veggie & he had the vegan curry which he said was lovely i had the Lamb roast which was very tasty, noticed they do menu of the week also bar snacks, will def be eating here again... The landlord & landlady are really nice & chatty as are the staff.

This place is great, Wetton has so much character and so does this pub landlord. Great banter and the food and drink wasn’t half bad. Great place and don’t forget to ask about the toe wrestling and be prepared for a demo :-).

Have eaten there several times recently but won’t be going again . Ordered garlic bread starter to eat with main meal. When meals came there were just 2 burnt ends of bread with ‘ garlic’ butter. When we asked whether that was all we got for £3.95 the lady went to check whether she had left the bread in the kitchen She came back and said no that was our lot ! We complained that it was grossly overpriced She then checked our bill & came back to tell us that it was actually only £1.95 ! This item was not even on the menu so obviously just randomly a made- up price When we said we still were not happy even at that price she did offer to knock off the bill if we weren’t going to eat it. Needless to say we agreed !Other than that the was fairly edible but overpriced for what it was . We shall not be returning anytime soon

Visited during a group weekend away. Staff were super helpful booking a Friday night meal for when we arrived, and even gave a couple of people lifts back rather than walk.

We visited after staying up in the village, had a good hour walk and then was welcomed by the landlords. Service and food were great with excellent choice. Thanks for your kind hospitality, the landlord even drove us back to the house👍🏼👍🏼

Was taken for my birthday lunch today and although I have been here once before, I was delighted to visit again. You get such a lovely welcome and nothing is too much trouble.

Having never visited the area before, we booked a table for a late Saturday lunch. On arrival we were met with a very warm welcome. The service was excellent; nothing was too much trouble and the all the staff were friendly and efficient. The food was delicious. Thank you. I would not hesitate to recommend this country pub. Excellent.

Had a wonderful afternoon with my husband and Mum celebrating Mother's day.

We had lunch here after a morning walk around Rudyard Lake, knowing nothing at all about the pub. We found the staff very friendly, the food and beer first class. The bar and eating area is augmented by a real fire, which adds much to the feel of it (especially after a walk in cold weather). Absolutely nothing negative to say.

Visited for mum's birthday and from the minute we walked through the door we were made to feel very welcome. There was a wide choice of meals on the menu to suit every taste. The portion sizes were more than generous and the food very tasty and piping hot. Having been a customer of the pub around 30 years ago it's good to see it's maintained its traditional charm. Well done to the community who run the pub. It's a credit to you! Very happy customers who will be back!

Great lamb shank with very nice mash-potato very yummy sauce ,my husband had the beef hot pot also amazing flavour nice cask beer for the hubby and for me a lovely glass Rioja wine to complement my nice meal

We ate here last night and had a really wonderful time. The pub and it's hosts are delightful, it doesn't try to be something it isn't, it's a good old fashioned pub serving great food. The place was buzzing giving it a great atmostphere. We had a vegetarian in the group and he was delighted with his quorn lasagne and the rest of the party throughly enjoyed their meals too. Will be returning soon we loved it.

We called in here after the knot weren't serving food so we thought we would give this a try. Sunday roast was £10 each and my plate wasn't full. There was staff sitting talking behind where we sat you can hear them swearing and talking about their boyfiends etc, not something you want to hear when your out for a nice meal with family.

This is another review of my dining experience at The Royal Oak having now used the facility a number of times. The food was excellent with plenty to choose from- it happened to be Pie Night, never been faced with so many choices! The venue was busier than previous visits and it is good to see that when it's a community venture and local people are putting so much effort in. Very clean seating area with dog friendly areas, ample table space and lots of beer and drink choices, something for everyone. The service received on this occasion was exemplary given the young lady (Kelly?) had quite a few guests in and all were ordering food. My choice of home made lasagne followed by syrup sponge pud with custard left me utterly stuffed. It was so tasty and piping hot, more than ample portion size. I am totally at odds with a recent review entitled "Yuck" My experiences could not be further from that persons opinion.

We have been to the Oak on several occasions and go every month for the quiz. Four of us went for a meal recently and enjoyed it yet again though overall perhaps not quite as good as previously.
