Nice old hotel in oban, clean, friendly staff, nice bar and restaurant in the hotel. Have stayed here many times when working in oban. Clean rooms but old and in the winter can be cold at night, some rooms allow noise from the main road. But overall a good hotel, nice breakfast and main meals. Pricing of rooms is OK aswell, have stayed before will stay again , on next work trip

Stayed here for 3 nights when the Mòd was in Oban. Our room was above the dining room, and the bar area. Could hear the live music until after midnight. The rooms were nicely decorated, but showing signs of wear. It is a Victorian hotel, so only to be expected. Breakfast was good each morning. Extensive buffet, with lots of options that would suit most people. The car park is tiny! We didn't even attempt to get our car into it.

The best Hotellounge in town, strong recommend. Scottish Hotel groove, large open room with high ceiling. The local senior citizens have their lunch here. The clubsandwich was top class, the variety of white and redwine is nice, just good for an afternoon. Spent some hours here, could work, read, think and be. Service is friendly, quick and the Hotelmanager is present too asking me for a coffee. The rooms I don't know but I expect same quality. Do not expect top posh class but a solid hotel experience in an historical building in the village center, close to harbour and railwaystation. I would stay here next time in Oban!

It's an old hotel in its era. It's clean, functional with a tired elevator (given its great age). Choose high rooms for a nice view. Ideal geographical location in the center, quiet and a stone's throw from the ferries to the Isles of Mull. Small path behind the hotel to go up the hill for a beautiful panoramic view (go to the hotel they have maps to access it).

The food here is nice , but my husband had tbe mussels as a main course and got 18 small mussels which didnt even fill the mussel pot that my smocked haddock pot came in . This spoilt the whole evening as until then it was going great and starters were very nice. Advised waiter and instead of dealing, he just ignored my husbands comments. Left with a bad feeling unfortunately.

Having been promoted by the Royal Hotel, we thought we'd give Blasta a go. The restaurant was actually cold, with absolutley no ambience as we entered. While the 50+ seating area had a total of 8 diners, we were seated outside the toilet and next to kitchen door and had a a view of cleaning materials. Tables were formica, small and crowded. Excess wine glasses were not removed. Menus looked inviting, with average starter around £7 and main course around £14. I ordered an onion and goats cheese tart for a starter, which Im sure was a commercial tart not chef made or ar least not all chef made - and was burnt under the grill. My husband ordered mussels in a garlic and wine sauce which he said were lovely, except he had to ask for a spoon for the sauce and no bread was offered. 2 tables of diners left and neither table was cleared while we remained in the restaurant, even tho restaurant staff were not busy. Another table had been set but the bench seating was covered with crumbs - overall, the service and standards are sub standard for the pricing. Our main courses of lamb shanks and rib eye steak were ok, nothing special but no complaint. We were not offered further drinks, dessert or coffee. The meal was adequate and the dining experience underwhelming. Oban has many lovely restaurants, our recommendation is give Blasta away.

We wandered into Blasta on Friday night having not known what time we'd get back from our day trip to Iona and Staffa, and of course, nowhere in Oban had seating. But we found our way to Blasta and were some of the only people there. While it doesn't look like much, we were delightfully surprised by the quality of the service and the food. Our server was very helpful and very friendly. And the food was amazing! I had the salmon, and my mom, who doesn't like salmon, tried a piece and said it was the best salmon she'd ever had. And the Thai style mussels were fantastic. It was definitely some of the best food we had on our trip. Don't let the appearances or lack of crowd dissuade you. This isn't the waterfront location, but it was well worth it, especially on busy nights.

I get the impression that management reads these reviews so I was surprised that the cullen skink (smoked fish chowder) was so very salty. I love salty food and eat wayyy too much salt and yet this dish was so salty that I could hardly finish it. My husband wanted to order a qorn/mushroom dish but they were out so he had to settle for (yet another) veggie burger and fries. However, the kitchen very kindly substituted mashed potatoes with cheese sauce for the fries, which was very tasty and saved him from culinary boredom. We also had the sticky toffee pudding which was good but would have been better if it hadn't been over-nuked in the warming process. Service was valiant in the face of an influx of customers; I think they need more than two servers on a weekend in high tourist season.

Vegetarian options were limited but this was due to the weather and no fault of the restaurant. We were served quickly initially and the food was good. After more people arrived. They seemed to get preferential service. Tried to get the attention of the waitress several times. At one point she acknowledged us but left the room. Another couple who had arrived sometime after us had not only been able to order their dessert but had also received it. In the end we were so fed up when we finally were able to get the attention of the waitress we asked for the bill. Paid in cash so that we didn’t have an even longer wait. Wouldn’t go back.

I booked Blasta after seeing their menu online and wanted to try the Scottish tapas. I am happy to say I wasn’t disappointed. The scallops, mussels and Camembert were all very tasty and the portion size was just right. An absolute bargain at £12.95. My husband had the ribeye which he said was lovely and had a chargrilled flavour and was cooked medium rare as requested. The only slight let down was the panacotta dessert, while it was tasty I felt it was overset. The staff were friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. We had a lovely bottle of rose wine, a pint to fosters and a kopperberg and the bill came to a very reasonable £61. I would recommend and we would definitely return again.

Went here when it first opened. Not impressed. Have looked in through the windows and it looks nothing special, and often very empty when you think there should be diners in there. Anyway went there as a group. Impressed. The ambiance of the place was better on the inside than it looks from the outside. Excellent, clear menu, also written in large clear lettering on one wall of the restaurant. Good drinks menu. As ever service is slow, but as long as you are not in a hurry - it doesn't matter. From our large group no-one was disappointed with their selection. Might go back!

They do a great early evening menu (before 6:30pm) and you can get 2 courses for around £15 or 3 courses for around £20. We went for the 3 courses. The meals weren't huge but having the three courses filled us up and we certainly didn't feel hungry when we left. The food was well presented and tasted lovely. The waitress was great, very friendly. I had the haggis to start then the chicken for main and the strawberry cheesecake for dessert and I really enjoyed all of it. I had creamed mushrooms, hubby had the black pudding and we both had the belly pork main and a liquer favoured meringue with strawberries for dessert. The whole meal from start to finish was delicious. The waitress was very friendly, the price of drinks was acceptable and I can honestly say it was one of the nicest meals we have ever had. I don't know why it was so quiet on a Friday evening but I am glad that it was. We went here for dinner on a Saturday night. Our meal was good, not great but not bad, just a good pub meal at a reasonable price. I will say my Cullen Skink was very good though. The staff we contact with were very friendly.

We stopped off for a light lunch as a family and ended up wishing we'd gone the extra 20 yards to Subway! We all ordered Paninis that were advertised as being served with kettle chips. Rock hard toasted baguettes arrived without the advertised kettle chips. The small side salad was far from fresh & there was a spoonful of coleslaw which was edible, so not a complete waste! The food would have been reasonably good value had it been enjoyable but at the amount paid, we would have been better visiting any of the other numerous pubs, cafes or eateries scattered around the town centre. On a positive note the bathroom was clean.

Good place to sit and watch the harbour life. Can get quite busyat lunch time but before 1pm and after 2pm you will generallyfind a comfy window seat. A pot of tea with scones etc is verygood value at £2.95 various coffees also available as are manyother drinks and snacks. An enjoyable place to have a breakwhen shopping or sightseeing.

Friendliness of staff and one of the best breakfast buffets ive had.Had dinner both evening and excellent quality and value for money.Rooms a bit old fashioned but spotlessly clean,as the wife said you don't stay in the room only sleep.Another nice touch was a voucher for discount on meals and drinks.Central location and near promenade and bars all in the near vicinity

If you don't want to meet the blue rinse brigade on holiday avoid this hotel. Single rooms are so small you can barely turn round it them, the walls so thin you can hear everything through them, no shower - just a bath

Ordered a guinness it was terrible tasted sour reported it. Pipes need cleaned The trainee Barmaid maggie wasnt interested charged me another pint when i asked for stella. You cant pay for food, and drinks all at once as she gets confused if you put 3 pints behind the bar. To much for her .Her attitude stinks when i says i will pay now. No go to the cash machine.. I wont be back i was a paying customer her attitude is shocking
