Cuan Mor in Argyll & Bute

It's a nice restaurant to sit in but, I'm sorry, the food is vile and it has been every time I've tried to give this place another chance over the last few years.

Popped in for dinner and had amazing steak frites and sticky toffee pudding. Food all arrived pretty quickly and was great quality. Well worth the visit if you are in Oban.

Best Sunday roast value! Venison lasagna is top. Lovely location.

Ate here the last couple of nights after recommendations from some gluten free sites - Food was amazing 🤩 , so many options and staff are so clued up on allergies! I’ve got a separate oat allergy and staff were super quick to get back to me about what was suitable. No hassle at all Thanks so much to the team, you made my trip to Oban a delight ❤️ (Ps try the salt and chilli oyster mushrooms 😋)

Midweek early December, this restaurant bar was very welcoming and served lovely food and excellent beer. The seafood chowder starter was superb 👍

Our light lunch at this dog friendly restaurant on a day trip to Oban on a grey December day was the highlight of the visit. Full of Christmas revellers and shoppers, the atmosphere was warm and friendly . The staff on duty were all polite and professional and the food ordered was delicious. The chowder was creamy and well seasoned, thick and rich. The mussels were fresh and well cooked, served in a flavoursome sauce. Last but not least - the Apple and Watermelon Mocktail was delightful. All extremely good value for money.

For a busy Sunday afternoon, there were two staff on to welcome, seat and serve customers, and cover the bar. The staff were doing an OK job considering this but service was definitely a little slow - at one point it seemed to just be the barman on. The food was delicious and a decent price. My husband had fish and chips which was a beautiful piece of fish and flakey batter, lovely. We had a good sized main each and a soft drink + coffee and the bill was £30. The person who made my flat white clearly couldn't work with oat milk but otherwise no complaints about what we received. The views of the bar, warm and welcoming decor and the Christmas decorations made it a lovely place to stop in for a proper lunch.

First time here at Cuan Mor, while staying in Oban for a couple of days. Really nice place, well laid out, lovely Christmas decor, welcoming staff, set in a ideal position overlooking the bay. Very friendly staff, made to feel welcome. A good atmosphere, busy place without being noisy and loud. Food was absolutely delicious. We had vegan burger and a cauliflower and kale burger, lovely and hot and very well presented. Highly recommended place to go.

It really upsets me to leave a bad review for this place because its been a firm favorite for years but my last 2 experiences were terrible especially yesterday's. The first was on Tuesday night, my friends booked us a table for my birthday most of the dinner went well, everyone seemed to enjoy the food, the disappointments were their menu change and the fact my cheesesauce on my vegan meal was very cold and spoilt the meal, we also ordered dessert and were annoyed to be told 20 minutes after we ordered it that they only had 2 cheesecakes left when we had ordered 3, and then another 15 minutes to get it, this would of been forgiven if they were busy but they really were not at all and we only ordered ice-cream, 2 cheesecakes and an affegato. The next time we came back on the Sunday, we had hoped to make breakfast but due to our own complications we never arrived until 11.55 am. When we arrived we were told we had to wait 5 minutes to order, they never asked if we wanted breakfast or lunch it was disappointing but that was okay. The real problem for me was they completely ignored us for that 5 minutes they never gave us menus or asked for a drinks order they just continued to wipe tables, the biggest problem for me is the fact the chef served normal mushrooms when the menu stipulated king oyster mushrooms (I used to run a kitchen so i know), I never complained because not once did the waitresses come over to check things were OK, they were too busy staring out the window ignoring the customers. My friends both had roast beef that was very over cooked and dry. I did eat the mushrooms which were very greasy and not nice. When we were finished we sat for ages waiting for someone to clear the table so we could settle the bill, eventually we had to shout someone over as no one was coming they were leaning on the bar doing nothing. When we got our bill I was disgusted to see a service charge on the bill. I honestly don't agree with this as service staff get decent pay and the tip should be a choice reflecting the service you receive which I was definitely not giving as I really don't think it was at all deserved. This has greatly upset me and I don't think I'll be back again. I'm local and we usually come in in groups of at least 5+ and we spend a good amount. I'm not normally someone to complain or write a bad review but this is ridiculous, who does a refurbishment and makes the place worse.

Great looking restaurant with friendly, efficient staff. Had lunch with my family and they loved the seafood chowder, I recommend the gourmet sandwich. Delicious food at really good prices.

We booked our table, glad we did as was very busy. Felt we waited long to get a drink. We got our order in, and the stars are for the starter they were amazing. So tasty. Our mains were average, I'd say I was a little disappointed. I had homemade steak pie , and the steak was dry and chewy. But pastry was delicious. Veg meh. Venison Lasagne was not great. And burger was bleh. Had to ask twice for the bill after quite a time trying to get anyones attention. The restaurant is beautiful. Very cosy. Staff were pleasant but not attentive.

Super cozy & festive decor. Delicious food with generous portions... and the prices are very decent in comparison to other restaurants around the area. £14 for a venison lasagne (very delcious) when usually it'd be more like £17 to £21. Got seated no bother without a reservation despite it looking busy. Staff were lovely. Would recommend to anyone, and will be back. :)

Food was of a high standard and reasonably priced. The mussels were the biggest and plumpest I've had in a long time. Would definitely recommend although they do add a service charge on to the bill automatically, irrespective of the size of your party. It's a bit presumptuous, but i assume you can ask for it to be taken off.

THE BELL!!! DAMN THE BELL!!!! DING DANG DONG!!! That blasted bell shall haunt my dreams. It's maddening... MADDENING!!!! the bell tolls to take your sanity. The FOOD TASTED LIKE THE BELL. there is bell and only bell. Damn that bell!!!!

We stayed in Oban for a week and ate here twice. The burger I ordered (twice) was the nicest burger I have eaten out anywhere. The staff were lovely and friendly. The gluten free menu was clear and well thought out. Not really a fan of eating out as usually it is poor value for money. That absolutely is not the case here. Cuan Mor is clearly a place where the owners and staff care about the business. I absolutely recommend it and wish you all well.

Really nice lunchtime experience, a complex order given to the excellent waiting staff, everything was correct. The fish and chips were very nice and the burgers went down well. Great for a visit if in the area but does get busy

Our group of six visited [Cuan Mòr] while on a tour, which allowed only a 1.5-hour stopover for lunch. We had to sit on a two-person and a four-person table, which created some logistical challenges. Although my friend and I at the smaller table placed our order first, we ended up waiting nearly an hour for our food – only to see that our friends at the neighboring table, who ordered after us, received their meals much earlier and had already finished lunch. Adding to the confusion, I specifically ordered Cullen Skink, a traditional Scottish smoked haddock soup, but was instead served a standard fish soup with mussels, lacking the distinct flavor of smoked fish that makes Cullen Skink so unique. Additionally, one of our friends received mussels instead of the salmon they had ordered. The food itself was, unfortunately, quite ordinary, and we felt rushed to finish our meals due to the delays. Overall, the experience felt disorganized, with long wait times and multiple order mix-ups. I hope the restaurant can address these issues, as their location in beautiful Oban has so much potential for an excellent dining experience.

Food was excellent, so tasty and great portions. Staff very good. Would have given 5 stars but for a couple of niggly things. Wine extortionate, not on drinks list and asked for a bottle of house, charging £30 for Pinot Grigot is ridiculous. Also adding on a 10% service charge is poor, although it is discretionary. Let us decide how much we want to tip.

Great food, dog friendly and well priced.

Eventually got slotted in to a nice table by the window, ,just as our meal arrived a couple with a dog were squeezed in the table next to us, the dog was a bit unsettled. I do not care for eating my dinner around animals, this was then unsettling for us, as we were not asked if we minded, not everyone on earth are dog lovers and it was unfair to assume that this would be acceptable to us it really was not, there were apparently no other tables available.. on the upside we enjoyed our meal, we have dined there many times in the past and cannot fault the food. We shall reconsider in future. I do not ever want to eat my meal with a strange dog rubbing against me. No, not acceptable...separate section for dogs and owners would be the answer.

Brilliant, We came in for a couple of meals here with my family and our dog. The place has a cosy atmosphere, the staff was friendly and helpful, serving good, tasty food. We had a great time, I recommend this restaurant to everyone. 🙂👍

We went here recently looked ok from the outside on looking at the menu I got the ribs and my wife got the fish and chips the ribs were supposed to be cooked on their smoker but were dry and not very tasty the fish batter was greasy the service was ok though they seem to rush you

My friends and I visited a couple weeks ago from the Okanagan, BC, Canada! Awesome food and service. Everyone was pleased with their lunch. I asked for Haggis as I’ve always wanted to try and the staff accommodated despite it only being on the breakfast menu. My lucky day they had some left as it was ‘amazing’. This is a memorable gem & I hope to go back some day!

Excellent food and everyone really enjoyed. Lovely big portions. The burgers were really delicious and the ribs were outstanding!

We trusted it would be empty on a wet Monday in October at 6:45 but it was entirely full, but they found us space after half an hour. Lovely, attentive, really great food, totally recommended. The only thing I would improve is to take another look at the alcohol free beers .. the Menabrea didn't seem to taste of much.

Vegan options here were better than most places in Oban. Pasta was lovely and burger was also good, not exquisite but okay.

Cheese toastie and tomato soup both a fail. Soup tasted like hot ketchup and grilled cheese was cold. Husband’s seafood chowder was tasty though.

A busy evening during the MOD and they managed to provide a reasonable pre-booked set meal for our group. Some veg would have been nice - - but otherwise perfectly fine. Astonishingly, no decent beers on tap now. Either they are resting on their laurels, or there is a problem. Not impressed. We’ve been coming here for years, both as a couple and bringing groups in. Will we come again? Probably not. Needs to try harder.

A warm welcome and absolutely yummy food. The seafood platter was gorgeous. Mackerel pate was the best I’ve ever had. Great layout for having a craic with other diners. Definitely be back and highly recommended

No server ever came to the table after 30 minutes of waiting. The host put in our order after we approached them as despite asking a server if they could have someone come, no one came. No further visits from staff occurred until plates were cleared. Absolutely abysmal service, the worst I have experienced in a restaurant.

Very friendly and responsive staff. We came with our dog who was entitled to his bowl of water and small cakes. The fish and chips are a little greasy for my taste.

We were able to get a table for two for dinner when we were already told in several other locations that everything was full. The waitress was friendly. Food was good. Another waiter even joked and small talked a little. Would definitly recommend.

Good burger. Long wait time but I arrived at dinner time! Nice big bar upstairs where you can have an adult beverage while you wait for your table! I enjoyed the general vibe here, the pinot noir and the venison burger which was the first red meat I’ve had in a very long time! Had a good experience and met a couple from Switzerland who I had a great convo with!

A sweet restaurant in Oban with great value ratio. The food was with quality and for lunch set, the price was unbeatable. The chowder was creamy and well seasoned, thick and rich. The mussels themselves are fresh and well cooked. The shrimps were a tiny bit over fried though. Servers were nice and helpful. Only thing is there was a bell at the kitchen reminding readiness at kitchen which was a bit annoying when sitting closed to it. Alfresco seems very nice too just over looking at the water front.

My family and I had such high hopes for this restaurant, but unfortunately our orders seemed to have been forgotten. It took over an hour and a half for us to receive our meals, and no one seemed interested to check in on us or give us our meals and it was extremely hard to call on someone to get an update. Our meal service started out great, the girl that was waiting on us was attentive and took note of my Gluten and Dairy allergies and went to check with the chef on what sides were safe for me to eat. But since it was an hour before closing there seemed to be a shift change and our server left for the night along with many other staff, that is when our service went downhill. Unfortunately by the time we got our meals we were so tired we hardly had the energy to eat our meals. I will give props to the Gluten free menu, as well as the atmosphere because it was cool to see historic photographs of the previous hotel establishment that the restaurant once was.

If you're looking for seafood, this is the place to go! J was our wonderful server who recommended the mussels, fish and chips, and salmon, our table ordered it all! Everything was so fresh and good sized portions.

What is offered on the card does not correspond to what you get. Pulled pork is a lot of fries and cheese with very little pulled pork. Brisket that has been prepared on the smoker for 16 hours should be tasty, but not overloaded with sauce. Not good.

My Airbnb host recommended this popular restaurant and it was a good tip. I called ahead early one evening to check on availability and was told that I could get a table. They seated me at a nice table by the window overlooking the harbor, which is lovely. My fried Sole was very fresh and nicely cooked. The "Prawns" were small, but also fresh and delicious. My rum and lemonade was tasty, refreshing, but not very strong. I tried to get a table the next day after a tour and was told there was an hour wait, so I dined elsewhere. Reasonable prices, good food and service, and excellent location, no wonder they're busy.

We had a drink the day before, we came back early in the morning for lunch. The view is very beautiful, over the port. Hearty breakfast, rather quick service and pleasant staff! We recommend.

Got in at lunchtime and had a lovely table for two at the window. Staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. The meal was delicious and reasonably priced. A lovely birthday treat. Thank you Cuan Mor.

It was crowded and noisy but staff was friendly and there was a fun vibe. The vegan options were vood: a burger, pasta, and even a great vegan dessert, a waffle with vegan ice cream and chocolate sauce.

We went there for dinner twice which is a clear statement. Due to the location at the harbor and the quality of the food, there is a lot going on and the staff is at the edge of capacity depending on the time...but still friendly. Ate very tasty.

The food was great when I ate it! Not so great when I got food poisoning later that night :(. The staff was really friendly and and the atmosphere/location was incredible! I would absolutely eat here again and try something else instead of what I got.

I think the title kinda somes-up the place. My family tried to have lunch in this overpriced cafe. First impressions were OK. It's a little tight inside, possibly because they have filled every inch of floor space with tables and chairs, with no consideration of customer comfort. My mother has mobility issues, so I asked the waitress (she was wearing a yellow top) if we could push two tables together to make a four seater. We were informed that the tables had been pre-booked and that we would have to sit by the door. Understanding that rules are rules, we took our cramped seats and surveyed the boring bland menu. You can imagine my surprise when the yellow topped waitress informed a group of people that tables are first come, first served basis only and that they could not book in advance. Shortly after that, the yellow topped waitress filled the tables I had enquired about with total randoms, not a pre-booking in-sight. It was at this stage yellow top realised I had identified her lies and avoided our poorly door blocking table. On this occasion, it was easier for yellow top to lie instead of telling the truth. SHAME ON YOU!!!

If you're looking for a place with good food and good service, this isn't it. The pizza place across the road is probably a better option. Very tasteless veggie burger and with onions (which clearly wasn't on the menu) and very slow service for a Monday night.

A reasonable meal for an ok price. Fish and Chips, and the steak pie were both good. Coffee was a bit cold.

9 of us celebrating graduation for one of the party, great food, fantastic service, great atmosphere , but should you be using 13 year olds to serve hot food and alcohol to guests at tables? From a legal/lawful point of view this is being blatantly ignored. Are you insured for instance if the hot food or coffee they are serving, is spilled on a customer burning them ?? I’m not so sure…. But….. all that aside, a fantastic meal and the Scottish nachos as a starter were an inspiration.

Had to wait a short while for a table but they went out of their way to accommodate us. I had braised beef for a main which was a huge portion with creamy mash and veg. Tasted incredible. Very impressed. It was so good we went back the following night got a table straight away and had tge chicken and ham pie. It was so good. Another if our party had the pork chop and had it both nights it was so good. Great atmosphere lovely staff and fabulous food. Highly recommend...definitely worth the wait

On a recent stay in Oban we had dinner here. The food was amazing, really well cooked and really tasty. As well as the traditional menu choices, there were some dishes on offer that were a little bit different so that was nice to try something new. Would definitely recommend

You cannot make a reservation and have to wait a long time. Until a group of 6 was allowed in and therefore made a reservation. We went while there were tables available.

Amazingly fresh food, well cooked and served well. Combined with attentive and friendly service from Jay, this is possibly the best place I've been to in years, and I don't say that lightly - mostly cause I had the afternoon fish tea and a starter!

We visited Cuan Mor on a reccomendation from a friend and we are very glad we did! After a boat trip a good meal and drink is just what we needed. The drinks and food menu had lots of options. Although there was some confusion over our order this was quickly resolved and overall it was a great spot for lunch in Oban!

This was our 2nd trip to Cuan Mor in Oban. We’ve been on a couple of coach trips and one of the favourite towns to drop off for a couple of hours is Oban. We’d enjoyed our fish and chips so much the first time we went back again. They were really busy but the guy told us to come back in 20 mins and he’d keep us a table. My husband had the fish and chips again which were just as delicious as the last time. This time he accompanied it with one of the many beers on offer which went down really well. I had a beautiful creamy fish soup made with white fish. I savoured every mouthful along with the crusty bread. Is it a cafe, bistro or restaurant I don’t know but what we’ve had has been great. It’s kid and dog friendly too. We’re back in Oban in November so we’ll definitely be back in the Cuan Mor.

Sat for 25 mins and no one waited on us. Went to the bar to request someone take our order. Waitress didn’t know what toppings came in the burger and didn’t want to go ask or inquire. Slow service. Tables that were seated before us got their food after us. Waitress couldn’t remember an ice cream order and had to run back 3 times to get it right. Owners were standing around doing nothing. Yuck.

Great location, great food and long selection of drinks (especially whiskey) . Managed to get a table outside and you can enjoy your delicious meal watching the water and traffic . The menu is standard pub farr but cooked really well. Our steak pie was amazing - the crust was crispy and the beef inside perfectly tender . Worth a stop !

Great spot and food, minus 1 star for the barking dogs inside the restaurant. I love that people can bring their dogs inside, but please only do so if they are well-behaved and you have control.

Nothing special. Burger was dry, no sauce. Some fries were not cooked fully.

Stopped for a spot of lunch, a very busy place with a really good atmosphere. Service was really good and very attentive. We ordered salt and chilli chicken wraps and Mac n Cheese, unfortunately we sent the Mac N Cheese back. Positive was that the chef tasted it and agreed that it wasn't great, they offered to replace it but we chose not too. Other than that good value and would try again if we were to return to Oban.

Mirrin was an awesome waiter. She added positively to our dining experience. The food portions were hearty and everything was very tasty.

1 star. Absolutely awful service. We were a party of 3 and had trouble getting a table, only to be dumped by the door in freezing weather. When we asked to move to another available section, the waiter outright ignored us. This table that we wanted was available and unreserved. Trying to order was a joke—our server brushed us off, saying another server was supposed to take care of us. That new server? Completely ignored us, even when I waved her over multiple times. In fact, she had been ignoring us since we arrived — making it so surprising to me that she was our server all along. We eventually just walked out. If you can’t even manage basic service, don’t bother. There are far better places nearby. Steer clear of this place. The competition prepares delicious food.

Does it ever stop raining 🌧 up here. Popped in to Cuan Mor to escape the weather on a recent visit to the region and greeted by a very busy bar and restaurant with a good atmosphere. Tables are very close together so can feel a little bit cramped especially near the window seats where the couple sitting on the next table can hear your conversations 😀. Food was lovely can't fault it good portion sizes and great tastes. Questionable whether the produce is as locally sourced as they say but I'll go with it. Only downside was the waitress service was a little hit and miss but these are young girls learning their trade so happy to pour our own wine and ask for new cutlery!!! If your going to add the tip to the bill this should be covered by your service. Overall nice establishment a bit on the pricey side but your also paying for the location.

Called in for a couple of drinks even though we didn't eat the food from the other tables looked amazing, will definitely call in again for some lunch

Breakfast was ok, our waitress was a little salty and impolitely told everyone they were understaffed today.

Went here for breakfast on Sunday and found the service horrendous. We were waiting for about 15/20mins for someone to take our order and then drinks took another 10mins even though we only ordered 3 glasses of juice. Between sitting down at the table and getting our food was at least 45mins. A large table that came in after us was served first. Only one of the servers actually seemed to be able to do their job; it was busy and she was rushed off her feet while the others seemed to just be standing around or clearing tables. The place seemed to be more interested in getting customers through the door than serving the ones already there! And nobody apologised for making us wait or even acknowledged the slow service. I probably wouldn't be leaving this review if they had actually apologied. We also weren't able to make substitutions on the breakfast even though I was asking for something that would have cost less than the thing I didn't want. The food was good, the eggs were well cooked (although there wasn't a choice of how) and the haggis was good, but all in all, I probably wouldn't go back here again. The food wasn't good enough to put up with such terrible service.

We had some really tasty vegan food at Cuan Mor. A lot of thought has gone into the dishes and the service was excellent. 5 very happy customers!

Very crowded but you can wait at a bar in peace until a table is free (pager so that the correct order is followed ;)) The food was delicious, the staff could be a bit more motivated, but they were friendly.

The guy in charge and the older bar staff were nice but two of the young girls there were very rude and dismissive when I said we'd been waiting 30 mins on a lager. We also waited an hour to be served food while people came in after us and ate and left. The haggis was nice but the cocktails weren't great.
