Cuan Mor in Argyll & Bute

Best I can say is "we had a nice server". Had the "Posh Pastrami sandwich". First bite of it found the tiniest bit of pastrami... Used the magnifier function on my phone to find it! Coleslaw was HORRIBLE...all mayo! Partner got the philly cheese steak... Better, but beef was tough! At least the chips were ok. All in all, a def "Pass!"

This place is great. Right on the water with a lovely view from the window. I had soup and then fish and chips. Both were excellent but the fish was really special. The best I've had on the west coast for a long time. I was seated and served very quickly which was great given it was a busy Saturday afternoon. Would certainly recommend and I will be back.

Absolutely brilliant! Food and service out of this world. It was also a refreshing change to be able to sit in the restaurant with a did, not pushed to a corner. They were attentive to dietary/allergy needs. A thoroughly enjoyable evening

Soup of the day was cream of brocoli which sounded nice and was ordered, in reality it was just brocoli, blitzed in the water it was boiled in, it was terrible! Our other starters and all main courses weren't much better, with the wee ones chicken being raw and having to be sent back, service was very poor, repeatedly having to reorder drinks. I actually don't like complaining to servers and making a fuss, but this was so poor it needed said, If it was more reasonably priced I probably wouldn't have said anything. A vastly over priced restaurant who's sole purpose seems to be ripping off visitors the one time they enter, I won't be back either.

Food was good reasonable prices but the drinks came just before I finished my meal then waited 45 mins before my other drink turned up didn't seem that busy although I wasn't the only one with problems

Terrace outside, cozy, you hardly notice that you are on the main road through Oban. Smooth service, good service

The food here is really good, and you're right on the water (across a street) which creates a wonderful atmosphere especially when the weather is sunny. They have a gluten free menu with really great options and dedicated gluten free fryer. I got the "locally smoked haddock chowder" which was phenomenal and came with a GF bun/roll. I also got the gluten free fish and chips which were basic but good and a very large portion.

Food was very nice. The decor and inside the resturaunt was lovely. It was right on the bay front with lovely sea views. Outside seating was available and offered to us. Lots of choice of food. The staff were friendly and helpful. Especially with one of our party with allergies. Prices were decent and not too expensive.

We initially intended to eat at Oban Inn but it was very cramped and the bartender was unhelpful so we came here. We were very happy with our choice! The food was fantastic, large portions, a great value, and with a broad drink choice. The service was extremely friendly although a bit slow, but they were packed. Would recommend!

Totally decent food, nothing to rave about. Was fooled with the order and experienced little care from the staff. The beer was good.

Vi troverete in un grande pub, molto tipico ed affollato. Salmone ottimo ma ad un prezzo elevatissimo, troppo per i miei gusti. I piatti con l'haggis buoni ma ne ho mangiati di meglio. Il ristorante è specializzato nel pesce.

Good food, good cocktails and friendly waiter

Unfortunate experience. The food when it came was actually very nice. There must have been a mishap in the system which meant our order wasn't processed and we had to actually ask about It after 30 mins of waiting for starters. To have it all redone again. Not ideal obviously. The full meal was covered because of this which we can not fault. Would potentially revisit with the hope of no mishaps.

Philly steak was absolutely tasteless. I counted 7 wee bits of tasteless steak in my ciabatta. For the price I expected more. Waitress was great.

Good service and good food! We went there on a Sunday evening and it was still pretty packed! If you go for dinner expect a little bit of a wait. We got the veggie burger(beyond) we think and the Mac and cheese. Both pretty good!

Generelt en skuffende oplevelse. Det er ikke muligt at bestille bord, når man - som os - kun er to personer. Det betyder en konstant kø ved indgangen og baren, som ser ud til at stresse personalet helt vildt. Da vi endelig fik lov at bestille, havde tjeneren dårligt tid til at tage imod, og ingen overskud til rådgivning om mad og vin. Betød også, at vi ikke fik vores hovedretter samtidig, da tjeneren ikke forstod at vi ønskede begge vores retter som hovedret. Ærgerlig oplevelse at spise hver for sig. Da vi - endelig - fik kontakt med tjeneren, fik køkkenet skylden for fejlen... Vi fik muslinger, som var virkelig gode - i en skøn sovs. Vi fik også en burger, som var helt forfærdelig. Bøffen helt uden struktur og uden stegeskorpe, og en bluecheese som ikke var i nærheden af at smelte, men lå som en gummi klump på toppen. Sluttede af med ost, som også var god. Det er et hyggeligt sted, men det ødelægges af at tjenerne løber forvirret rundt - og at kvaliteten på maden er så svingende.

One of the best meals we had in our 10-day trip to Scotland. Our server was so sweet.

Dining at Cuan Mor was a fabulous experience! The restaurant was very busy and can be a both crowded with close tables, but it still felt cozy and welcoming. There’s a great bar selection and the food is incredible! We also had great service from our server, Jay. If we return to Oban in the future, we will definitely dine here again!

Sharing this review more as feedback. We came to eat and were sitting outside as we had a big dog. We ordered drinks inside and requested menus. The drinks seemed to take a while to come out when they did we asked if we could order food straight away (we had less then an hour parking left). We were told it would be 10 minutes before someone would come and take our order as they were busy and only had 3 staff members. I said is there a delay on food then and was told 'yes'. Had we known this we wouldn't have sat down or gotten drinks. All it did was waste 15 minutes we could have used elsewhere and meant we then had to rush to find somewhere else to eat. I feel had it been made clear to us how busy/short staffed they were we could have made an informed decision not to stay. We wasted time and money on drinks we didn't really want.

The setting is nice. The food is typical English/Scottish. We don't like it or not!

A very disappointing fish and chips; too small and thin piece of fish inside the batter. Pity, because service was ok and the place was full.

Warm nice atmosphere. Looks like it should be cute and cosy. The interaction with the servers felt a little scripted and forced that didn’t feel the same as the warm cosy vibes Ordered eggs Bennie, lovely runny eggs but drowning in sauce that tastes out of the bottle and takes over everything.

Very nice and warm place. We went for the "evening" around 6 p.m. in order to have a table for 4. They do not take reservations in the evening, we were asked there around 12 p.m. The service is very friendly and the dishes arrive quickly. I had a sea pie with mash and broccoli. The puree was dense but good. The sea pie was more like a bite to the queen than a pie but it was good. In our opinion, the establishment deserves good marks.

I work in hospitality, so I know how busy it can be at a restaurant. However, this place has the worst, and I don't like to write bad reviews, but literally the worst service and it wasn't that busy. Starting with waiting to get a table and 5 different people in a row telling us "I'll be with you in a minute", there were many clean tables but the last person gave us a dirty one, cleaned it there and disappeared. We had to go and ask a waitress for the menu, because we noticed they won't be back any time soon. And later we had to ask someone again to take our order. I really wanted to leave at this point but as with my partner we were chatting happily, we were trying to be cool about this. (Never again) The food was the only thing that came really quick, and I won't lie, it was really good. When I am ready to ask for the bill, again they take their time to bring the bill and of course we had to go and check if anybody wants to let us pay and finally leave. Of course they wanted to charge for the service. Service? Non existent. Maybe it was a bad day for everybody there, but they need a lot to improve.

Nice restaurant in Oban. Food and Service are really quite good.

Super friendly staff, the lad had been on the job for 3 days but that we didn’t notice. I ordered the four cheese Mac and cheese with fries and this was a very good Mac and cheese. My company ordered a venison lasagna and was happy with that too. For dessert, a biscoff cheesecake which was delicious however the whipped cream did not have to be as sweet as it was. The biscoff is already sweat enough 🥲 The major struggle with this place was the very loud and noticeable door bell sound which I am guessing was to let the waiters know that food was ready. I feel like in 2025 there are more discreet systems. I would go back but ask to be seated as far away from the bell as possible.

We came to Cuan Mor after visiting Oban distillery. We had booked another restaurant who then turned us away as we had dogs with us and they were not dog friendly. We found Cuan Mor was dog friendly so decided to try it. Inside was lively but not too noisy to the point where you couldn't speak to eachother. Great drinks selection and the food was fantastic. The set menu was a reasonably priced deal too. I had Haggis Bon Bons which was my first Haggis experience and I loved it. I then had a beautiful Venison Pie for mains. Cuan Mor was fantastic

Wanted coffee and dessert. Waited ages to be served after being seated. We ordered Drinks and desserts, and the drinks arrived 10 mins later, and we waited another 20 mins before chasing up our dessrts orders. The cakes arrived after another 10 mins, but our drinks were cold by then. Then They had the cheek to add a service charge. Staff were not friendly either.

Stopped for lunch - had Mussels & the Haddock Chowder - both very nice. Reasonably priced and staff spot on. Would recommend.

The location was walking distance from the hotel (great western). Lovely views. Small and quant ISH restaurant, with seafood options and normal menu options. Mac and cheese was ok, some more flavouring would have been better, fish felt greasy. Dessert was very good with a hefty scoop of ice cream!! Very worth it!

Popped into the car mor on oban main road and was very pleased with the quality of the food and the friendly atmosphere

We ordered loaded fries - cheese and pulled pork - it had 3 bits of pulled pork , fries not salted properly, few bits of Spanish onion and a lot of mozzarella in the centre. Loaded fries should have more pork, not so much mozzarella fused into the centre and the quality can be improved by just few simple changes. The chicken breast stuffing was good, but the chicken breast was quite hard - try sous vide method or maybe slow cook chicken breast so that it is still soft and not rubbery. Learn better methods to cook your protein and your dish will instantly be better. The mashed potatoes were ok, can be more buttery/creamy, but no complaints. The pepper sauce could be a more vibrant red /yellow colour, but taste was ok. Service was good. I think a few simple things can really make a big difference in increasing quality of the dishes.

We had a wonderful two meals at Cuan Mor! We had dinner the first night that we got to Oban and had the mussels appetizer, which was so delicious ! My husband and I split The venison lasagna and our girls got the kids meal with the mussels and chips. For dessert, we split the sticky toffee pudding that I am still dreaming about a week and a half later. I think it was the best sticky toffee pudding we had in Scotland! The service was so great and we felt so cozy and welcomed. We decided to go back the next morning for breakfast and had such a delicious breakfast with amazing service again! We can’t wait to go back !

Best breakfast in Oban- had the wee Scottish breakfast. Bacon had tons of flavor. Solid coffee as well.

Went on a Wednesday night and place busy. Stood at door at wait to be seated area for over 5 mins. Eventually a waitress appeared and said 30 minute wait for table. We agreed and she said stand at bar and wait. We went to bar and stood. Male member of staff behind bar. No other customers there but us. He ignored us for four minutes and was washing glasses until I said excuse me can we have a drink. He said have you a table and on me saying we are waiting for one and he said you can't have a drink without a table. At that point I had enough and we left. Won't be back

We were walking past in the heavy rain and strong winds last night and we were blown inside the restaraunt and glad we did cause we both had 2 great meals..we had venison burger with fries n salad n coleslaw...nicest burger I've had in years....and the biggest fish n chips n coleslaw meal I've seen in years...the fish alone would have fed lots of people...I'm sure someone well known did that a long long time ago....the bottle of wine was nice along with the 2 puddings we had....all in all a great meal...great service...great atmosphere and worth driving 100 miles for and walking outside in the arctic temperature last night......It was just very windy when other people were coming in through the door...we caught a few napkins flying through the air though, bit of exercise I suppose.....Cheers for a nice meal

The atmosphere was really nice. The wait staff was kind and attentive. That was the best part to this restaurant. I gave those a 5 ⭐️ each. And for the food I gave 3⭐️ the food was okay. I had what they call Chicago style ribs. Never heard of that before. There’s Baby Back ribs, spare ribs, and country style ribs. Some call spare ribs St. Louis style or some might them Kansas City style ribs. In their description they call them baby back ribs. These ribs were more like a spare ribs in my opinion. Not meaty like what baby back ribs are in the U.S., The ribs were a little dry and tuff. I still ate them and didn’t make a big deal about it. So they were just okay. The beans were good but not great. The coleslaw was a disappointment (it just didn’t taste right). The French Fries were good. Overall the meal was okay. But I will say I thought the wait staff did well, and they were kind and attentive. My overall rating would be 4 ⭐️’s. And that’s Because of the kind wait staff. Honestly I might try eating here again before I leave in a few days… but will have something else because the ribs were a disappointment. I just wanted to try something else because I’ve been eating mostly seafood. But it’s a really nice place. Seems clean and well decorated!

Great service, some items off the menu not available however there was plenty of choice. Staff very polite and helpful and friendly.

Food was very average and relatively over-priced. One of us had a beef sunday roast which was alright but the bacon on the pigs in blankets was paper thing. The venue is lovely and looks like one of the most modern places in Oban, and the staff were great but the food quality was poor and it was £7 for a pint of lager. Overall pretty disappointing.

Although been in this restaurant twice and the food was great,we were very disappolnted this time.Fish dish was cold ,and steak had a watered down peppercorn sauce.Coffee was rubbish,they forgot to put coffee beans in.On top of that there was a discrecionary 10% service charge.Wont be back.

Terrific service, delightful dinner

The night we were going we looked online at menu and made our minds up before arriving. Table was booked for 18.45. When we arrived the steak frites was off the menu, it was why we decided to go so very disapointed. I decided to have the fish and chips, this should have come with house fries but I was given skinny fries which again was not what I expected so again disapointed, but fish was nice, the batter good. My wife ordered the steak pie but this needed to be sent back as it was cold not even lukewarm but cold, when it came back out it was fine and she enjoyed it but she felt that it was not freshly cooked but maybe plated up and left to sit as although it was warmer than the 1st plate she was given it was still not as hot as expected. At end of meal a man who may have been manager or lead waiter apologised for cold meal and deducted price of one drink from meal. Atmosphere and service was good and a nice place for a meal but wrong chips, cold meal, and no steak frites on what is already a small menu is not good enough, especially as this was a Sunday night and a time you expect them to be well stocked. Will not be going back.

Unsere sechsköpfige Gruppe besuchte Cuan Mòr im Rahmen einer Tour, die uns lediglich 1,5 Stunden für das Mittagessen einräumte. Bereits die Sitzordnung stellte eine Herausforderung dar, da wir auf zwei Tische – einen für vier und einen für zwei Personen – aufgeteilt wurden. Doch das war erst der Anfang einer insgesamt enttäuschenden Erfahrung. Obwohl mein Freund und ich an dem kleineren Tisch als Erste bestellt hatten, mussten wir fast eine Stunde auf unser Essen warten – nur um dann festzustellen, dass unsere Freunde am Nachbartisch, die deutlich später bestellt hatten, ihre Mahlzeiten lange vor uns erhielten und bereits fertig waren. Zusätzlich gab es erhebliche Fehlbestellungen: Ich hatte mich bewusst für Cullen Skink entschieden, eine traditionelle schottische Suppe mit geräuchertem Schellfisch. Serviert wurde mir jedoch eine beliebige Fischsuppe mit Miesmuscheln, die völlig den charakteristischen Rauchgeschmack vermissen ließ. Ebenso erhielt ein Freund Miesmuscheln statt des bestellten Lachses. Die Qualität der Speisen war insgesamt mittelmäßig, und aufgrund der Verzögerungen mussten wir unser Essen schließlich in Eile hinunterschlingen. Zusammenfassend wirkte der gesamte Ablauf chaotisch und schlecht organisiert, mit langen Wartezeiten und mehreren Fehlern bei den Bestellungen. Schade, denn mit der idyllischen Lage in Oban hätte das Restaurant durchaus das Potenzial für ein großartiges kulinarisches Erlebnis.

We stayed in Oban and visited this restaurant a few times due to how good it was. It is dog friendly which is a massive plus for us. The food was always beautiful and very reasonable. The decor was lovely. The staff were friendly and attentive, everytime we came they offered our dog water straight away. We will returning when we come back to Oban. I would highly recommend.

Just got a simple dish (Mac n Cheese) as didn't fancy eating much else, but it was delicious. Wife opted for venison burger (not photographed) and loved it. Atmosphere was fantastic, all other guests appeared to be having a good time and enjoying their food. Considering it's right on the front of a tourist hotspot, didn't think it was overpriced at all. Have already recommended other people to go, and would go back as well as a priority.

We ate here late lunch early evening meal. We wanted to make a reservation, but this was no longer possible, so we tried when we were in the area and we were lucky. We also saw that there was quite a turnover for tables and that people liked to wait a while. We found it very nice and atmospheric inside mixture of restaurant and pub. With friendly staff. And the food was fantastic we had steak pie and Fien and chips. Meat super soft and all the flavors were delicious, including the mashed potatoes and gravy. And the fish was buttery soft and delicious with a super crispy, no greasy layer. I would really recommend everyone to eat here at least once. If I come back to Scotland I will definitely try to come back here.

Our go-to pub in Oban: even though there were eleven of us (without a reservation), they managed to find us a nice place twice, welcoming us with great kindness. The food is exquisite, the environment friendly and the staff friendly, absolutely recommended!

Good food good price, what's not to like

Nice restaurant. Met some friendly people. Service was faultless....we had a young 19 year old lad who was brilliant, made you feel welcome, very attentive and had a great sense of humour. Absolutely made it for us! Food, of course delicious. Would highly recommend prawn and avocado starters and the ribs and bbq sauce were amazing; proper sized ribs, loads and tasty. Cant remember the name of the desert but it had a coconut snowball on top and was delicious. Thanks

I went here for a coffee whilst waiting for my poor dog at the vet. The person (I suspect the owner) at the door was pleasant and welcoming but did seem put out when I said I wouldn't order food. There appeared to be some sort of way in which they organised the other guests (it was quiet and early) so they wanted us bunched by the windows to look busy. This resulted in two gentlemen having a loud Zoom/ Teams conversation with their laptop so I couldn't read my book. Can't blame the staff for this too much. The sting was the bill. The coffee was advertised as £3.95 (and milk alternatives were not mentioned as supplementary charges on the menu). I was charged roughly 50p for the oat milk and then a 'service charge' of roughly 50p. I think this was all a bit steep for a 10 minute coffee break to be more than £5.

Absolutely gorgeous food, just opposite the harbour, good friendly staff! Worth a visit!

Came in here last year and was very disappointed and said I wouldn’t go back but I threw caution to the wind and went back and was glad I did, the service was excellent and the food was fantastic, I had the fish curry from the special menu and it was one of the tastiest curries I’ve had in a long time, my wife had the salmon pasta and she loved it, I will definitely return next time I’m in Oban, the crumble was very delicious and quite filling

Loved this gem of a place. We were 6 people and came for a late lunch without a reservation. 3 of us had the Sunday roast and it was a great price. I had the venison lasagna with cheddar cheese and WOW it was delicious.

The mussels at this pub were hands down the freshest and most flavorful I’ve ever had—perfectly cooked and bursting with briny, ocean-fresh goodness. Went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. I had the full Scottish and my partner had the eggs benedict with hash browns and black pudding. Really good quality and presentation and the service was friendly and cheery. Nice surroundings. Apparently the coffee was very good too.

Popped in for dinner and had amazing steak frites and sticky toffee pudding. Food all arrived pretty quickly and was great quality. Well worth the visit if you are in Oban.

It's a nice restaurant to sit in but, I'm sorry, the food is vile and it has been every time I've tried to give this place another chance over the last few years.

Ate here the last couple of nights after recommendations from some gluten free sites - Food was amazing 🤩 , so many options and staff are so clued up on allergies! I’ve got a separate oat allergy and staff were super quick to get back to me about what was suitable. Our light lunch at this dog friendly restaurant on a day trip to Oban on a grey December day was the highlight of the visit. Full of Christmas revellers and shoppers, the atmosphere was warm and friendly . The staff on duty were all polite and professional and the food ordered was delicious. The chowder was creamy and well seasoned, thick and rich. The mussels were fresh and well cooked, served in a flavoursome sauce. Last but not least - the Apple and Watermelon Mocktail was delightful. All extremely good value for money.

First time here at Cuan Mor, while staying in Oban for a couple of days. Really nice place, well laid out, lovely Christmas decor, welcoming staff, set in a ideal position overlooking the bay. Very friendly staff, made to feel welcome. A good atmosphere, busy place without being noisy and loud. Food was absolutely delicious. We had vegan burger and a cauliflower and kale burger, lovely and hot and very well presented. Highly recommended place to go.

For a busy Sunday afternoon, there were two staff on to welcome, seat and serve customers, and cover the bar. The staff were doing an OK job considering this but service was definitely a little slow - at one point it seemed to just be the barman on. The food was delicious and a decent price. My husband had fish and chips which was a beautiful piece of fish and flakey batter, lovely. We had a good sized main each and a soft drink + coffee and the bill was £30. The person who made my flat white clearly couldn't work with oat milk but otherwise no complaints about what we received. The views of the bar, warm and welcoming decor and the Christmas decorations made it a lovely place to stop in for a proper lunch.

It really upsets me to leave a bad review for this place because its been a firm favorite for years but my last 2 experiences were terrible especially yesterday's. The first was on Tuesday night, my friends booked us a table for my birthday most of the dinner went well, everyone seemed to enjoy the food, the disappointments were their menu change and the fact my cheesesauce on my vegan meal was very cold and spoilt the meal, we also ordered dessert and were annoyed to be told 20 minutes after we ordered it that they only had 2 cheesecakes left when we had ordered 3, and then another 15 minutes to get it, this would of been forgiven if they were busy but they really were not at all and we only ordered ice-cream, 2 cheesecakes and an affegato. The next time we came back on the Sunday, we had hoped to make breakfast but due to our own complications we never arrived until 11.55 am. When we arrived we were told we had to wait 5 minutes to order, they never asked if we wanted breakfast or lunch it was disappointing but that was okay. The real problem for me was they completely ignored us for that 5 minutes they never gave us menus or asked for a drinks order they just continued to wipe tables, the biggest problem for me is the fact the chef served normal mushrooms when the menu stipulated king oyster mushrooms (I used to run a kitchen so i know), I never complained because not once did the waitresses come over to check things were OK, they were too busy staring out the window ignoring the customers. My friends both had roast beef that was very over cooked and dry. I did eat the mushrooms which were very greasy and not nice. When we were finished we sat for ages waiting for someone to clear the table so we could settle the bill, eventually we had to shout someone over as no one was coming they were leaning on the bar doing nothing. When we got our bill I was disgusted to see a service charge on the bill. I honestly don't agree with this as service staff get decent pay and the tip should be a choice reflecting the service you receive which I was definitely not giving as I really don't think it was at all deserved. This has greatly upset me and I don't think I'll be back again. I'm local and we usually come in in groups of at least 5+ and we spend a good amount. I'm not normally someone to complain or write a bad review but this is ridiculous, who does a refurbishment and makes the place worse.
