First time with family from out of town. Trying out menu for a future booking. Fish & Chips meal was rated 7/10 batter was over cooked, price gor quantity 15% Over. The Curry dish was rated 6/10 as Curry sauce was extremely spicy, regular eater of Asian food. Turkey Dinner rated 5/10. Was the Christmas Turkey Dinner offering??? To start; Carrots & Parsnips hot but undercooked. White cabbage & red wet & cold. Turkey slices sadly tasteless. Roast potatoes hard in centre. Gravy in a small pot was just too glumpy, best way to describe. Biggest let downs!! NO BRUSSEL SPROUTS ! AND. THE WORST SIN OF THE MEAL!! NO CRANBERRY SAUCE!!! This was extremely upsetting! Waiter was informed and sadly no explanation was forthcoming from Kitchen! Why NO CRANBERRY SAUCE or Brussel Sprouts. As for "pigs in blankets" !! Well the 2 wee cocktail sausage size wouldn't even make One !! ( another customer mentioned the above). Wine was over priced for this establishment. Its Pub Grub! Need to do better to have us try again.

Had a family meal here while staying at Hunters Quay Holiday Park. The food was great and the staff were friendly and attentive. One of the most enjoyable meals out in a while thanks to great staff and the chef/ lovely food I don't know where the cherry tomatoes served with the steak were from but they were the sweetest and tastiest tomatoes I have ever tried.

Visited Restaurants Saturday night only to be told that the restaurant is full all tables had reserved on them and can’t seat 2 people 4 staff standing waiting on all these bookings coming in. Even though there was only 14 people eating in the restaurant at this point so we wend Down to the Lorne in dunoon and it was fantastic excellent service and the food was exceptional. On my return to the site I went in to see how busy the restaurant was and yes all the tables still had reserved on them so with better management we could of eaten in there. Spoke to someone who said she was the manager even though she was not in uniform and she said they had lots of big bookings coming in and if I wanted a table I would need to book 3 days in advance. Poor poor customer service Would not recommend snd would suggest you book the Lorne better value for money and far better service This sites services are going down hill quick I suggest someone wakes up listens to customers and acts quickly

Reviews were not great however I have to say that the the experience was pretty good. Staff all very polite and attentive, drinks served promptly, orders taken and food - well cooked and nicely presented followed without any delay. Primarily serving the many staying on the site it was good value for money.

Mixed bag here being honest. Tried the evening menu and wasn’t disappointed with the standard of food or portion sizes. Drinks are slightly expensive, but expected for a holiday park. Food prices are reasonable too. The sharing starter offered good value, and the highlander burger was epic. Was disappointed with the paltry chip count with that, but once consumed after sharing the starter was suitably full. I’d be slightly disappointed if it was just a main I ordered. Kids meals were great value, certainly not tiny portions as you usually get. Quality as kids expect, quantity as parents expect. Tried the breakfast the next day and the quality wasn’t the same. Good quality eggs but small. Lorne sausage tough, bacon fatty. Vegetarian breakfast almost dire. I enjoyed the vegetarian “haggis” but the vegetarians didn’t. Service was a little disjointed too in the morning. I’d return for an evening meal but will swerve the breakfasts in future.

As guests at the Holiday Village we thought we would try out the on-site restaurant. We were made to feel welcome on arrival and shown to our pre-booked table (which is a must). The food tasted lovely and arrived promptly after ordering. Only issue was an incorrect steak, I asked for blue it was just rare but I know this can vary from chef to chef. Plus the amount of oil/water on the plate made the chips swim before eating, I should have left them in the pot (see pic). Sadly after our main meal arrived the service sadly went “down hill”. We waited over 25mins after finishing before anyone came to take our used plates and ask if we wanted puddings. Even though we were seated to the left of the servers desk. We ordered our puddings and these arrived fine and also ordered a drink, the drink did not arrive as the server passed this to another server and gave him the wrong table number, so instead of him asking the other server again he just left it. When I asked if I could have a coffee I was told ‘NO’ as they were cleaning the coffee machine, this was 45mins before they closed. Not sure why you would do this when you still have customers in the restaurant. Sadly not the best restaurant for customer service, however the food was acceptable.

We ate here twice on our Easter weekend break. Once for breakfast and once for dinner on Good Friday. On the breakfast morning we waited a long time for 2 x beans on toast, a small Scottish breakfast, 2 x breakfast rolls. The restaurant was not busy so it appeared that the delay was down to kitchen inefficiencies. The beans were at best stingy. One small pot that didn’t cover one slice of the two pieces of given. As owners we received a 10% discount but the bill still came to £33 with one drink each being consumed. When we went in the evening, the restaurant was a little busier but not at full capacity and again we waited just over 35 minutes for our food (we only ordered main courses). No-one came at any point to explain any delay. I was just about to enquire when the food arrived. When looking at the menu I noticed that the prices have soared from what they used to be. £14.95 for Steak pie, you have to pay £5.00 extra for prawns in the curry and you only receive four prawns, which seems a bit steep. The portion size was fine except on the curry for what was paid. My eldest daughter’s meal did not arrive with our food, so we waited a further five minutes still nothing so my husband went to enquire and the waiter apologised and said it would be along shortly. It arrived just over five minutes later. So by the time she had received her food ten minutes after our food was served we were nearly finished. We did not order puddings due to the delay and although we had one soft drink each (5 drinks in total) the bill came to just over £80 pounds. To be honest for an eatery at a caravan park this seems very high and much more expensive than it used to be. I’m not surprised that it was so quiet as by venturing the short distance into Dunoon you will get a cheaper meal of similar quality.

Restaurant was empty, 3 tables with people sitting, visited with my parents and young kids. Took 15 minutes for anyone to come near to take an order. Meanwhile the table behind sent their food back after a 25 minute wait time as it was stone cold. They were told 7 minutes and they would have new burgers from the kitchen. We placed our order and 20 minutes later neither or food or the table behind had theirs back. The table behind walked out. Once our food arrived, it was ok, a couple of parts of the orders were wrong, but no one checked back the table and we weren't willing to wait any longer. Also very overpriced - we were charged £79.10 for 2 pints of fosters, 2 large rose wines, a bowl of nachos, a bowl of soup, a chicken wrap and a BLT with a side of chips!! I questioned the price and was assured this was correct. Been coming to Hunters Quay for years but won't be rushing back in when we visit next.

While staying at Hunters Quay, Hunters Bar & Grill was in our experience the best in the immediate (walkable) area and was a regular visit for us during the week as the kids loved the menu and the very warm and friendly staff. There’s enough variety in the menu to have dinner every night for a week (we almost did) and all of a high quality. Pricey (as noted in some reviews)? Maybe a little, but we enjoyed ourselves, and no-one forced us to plough through the menu, including the ‘Choccomania’ dessert which is a must! Like all resorts of this type, there’s pricing to suit a ‘captive audience’ but there’s a higher degree of service also, so I’d regard it as VFM none the less. 3 nights out of 5 speaks for itself!

After waiting soo long for our food and no apology we left and asked for a coffee to takeaway. The girl behind the bar told us the coffee machine was switched off and we couldn’t have a coffee. What restaurant tells their customers they are open for service but can’t have a coffee because the machine is switched off?? What does that even mean? Do coffee machines have opening items? Or does it basically mean it’s 9:15pm and she couldn’t be bothered cleaning the coffee machine again? :// during difficult times for the restaurant sector these guys will need to up their game.

Not one meal had anything negative, all different meals were extremely tasty and nice portion sizes. The menu had a really large choice of meals. Extremely displeased with the value for money and quality of the food. every meal that we ordered seemed to be covered with other little dishes to make the portions seem larger. One piece of chicken and about 8 chips for £12.50 definitely doesn’t justify good value for money. The restaurant itself was well presented. Staff didn’t seem happy to be at work and with this being my second poor experience here I feel 2/5 stars is justified.

Attend hunters quay every weekend to take kids swimming (two families) we always stay for lunch usually good service and food. However we arrived yesterday (Saturday) ordered three kids meals and three adult burgers. Chicken burger was perfect however the two beef burgers were pink and undercooked, staff offered to re make burgers for us. After waiting almost 40 minutes the replacement burgers were still pink on the inside and so salty that you couldn’t eat. Discussed with waitress about not paying for burgers as we weren’t happy with them. She made it very clear that she was annoyed that we had questioned the problem with the food. Two burgers were deducted from our pill but due to the attitude from the staff we will now be going else where for good following our weekly swim.

We have just returned from a weekend break here at Hunters Quay Holiday Village staying in one of the jura caravans. We come here as a family of six often every year and the accommodation was as always lovely, clean and ready for when we arrived. Our disappointment came when on sunday evening we arrived for our family meal at the bar and grill. We were seated at a table that we had pre booked and ordered our drinks right away. After looking at the menu the server arrived to take our order. We asked that the childrens meals were brought at the same time as the adult starters as the kids were beginning to get really hungry after an action packed day. We were told that this would be okay. After half an hour the server returned to say that as there was a backlog of orders now the chef would not be ready to have our kids meals ready for the starters but would have them with the adult mains. This meant the kids would have to sit and watch us eating. I noticed a table of three adults who arrived half hour after us being served their main meals meanwhile my kids were sitting hungry and fed up. I ended up giving my starter to them to eat whilst we waited. After another 40 minutes the mains had not arrived and after catching the server who was working very hard, to say this was really unacceptable waiting time for kids who were now getting sleepy, we were told he would chase the chefs up. Five minutes later all of the mains arrived including the kids meals with my meal missing - it was a salad for goodness sake - the one meal that REQUIRED NO COOKING. By this time I was becoming frustrated. The salad was quickly prepared and it was brought out asap. The food was fine for what we ordered. At the end the server asked if we required anything else and I again let him know that this was a ridiculous time we waited and that the kids should have been served before us - we would rather have waited instead of them. He agreed and asked if the kids would have liked a complimentary desert - by this time we had been there two hours and they had barely eaten what they did get as too tired. We refused. We are booked to come back for a week in july and we will most def not be back here to eat. What a disappointment - would not recommend as in this case chefs clearly cannot prioritise children or cope with the demand of a marginally busy sunday.

Visited with my partner, nephews and niece, waited 20mins for a kids menu, gave us the menu then asked after 1 minute if we were ready to order then they left. Never to be seen again, we got up we went and ordered pretty easy food, two kids hot dogs two burgers and a tuna melt with chips. Having sat for what was now an hour we went and asked how long our food would be. We wait then the waitress comes back and says the food is just coming I explained we had now been here for over an hour waiting and she snapped back no 20mins. The food arrived hot dogs in an un buttered roll with cold chips a couple of beans and a tiny bit of cheese. £6 are you mental I could of went to a shop and bought enough ingredients for 6 people to eat that. The burgers were well nothing to write home about, and having an allergy to tomatoes I was disturbed to find some on my burger. The tuna melt came we told the waitress about the chips and we are still waiting on them as the staff then proceeded to just ignore our table. Went to pay the bill and even the assistant food and beverage manager couldn’t care less about our thoughts and as I didn’t thank her for taking my money off of me for something as terrible as that she just gave attitude.

From potato scone nachos to scottish tapas. Pizza is a hit or miss depending on how you like it. All the food was to a great standard. 7 for dinner. Everyone had a different starter and main and dessert. What can I say. Bar staff delightful and helpful. Bar area is cosy with a modern touch.

Spent a weekend at this Holiday Village. Mad dinner in the Bar and Grill. We ordered fish, chips, salad which was a large portion at £9.95 but well worth that price as the fish was so fresh. I had macaroni, chips and it was deliciously hot and tasty. £8.95 and well worth the price.. Children had burgers and a sweet and a drink for £5.95 which were part of a kids meal. Great value..

Food can be tasty and sometimes not so can be a bit pricey but you are at a holiday park.the Staff friendly and will do anything for you We use to come out for dinner once a week and as a family of 5 it's not easy to please everyone.we also had bigger family dinners for birthdays (10-15)We no longer come out as much.the food has changed over the last 6 months There must be a new chef Sadly, things have gone very noticeably downhill and they have not improved when we were out last week.I have sat in the restaurant and watched numerous dishes being returned to the kitchen. We will try again but not holding out for much which is a shame as we enjoy the park x

Went for a family lunch following a swim, waited over 45 minutes for our order to arrive at our table, even though the place was fairly empty. My husband ordered the chilli bowl which was lukewarm, at best. My son had the penne pasta which was so over cooked it was soggy and we could barely pick it up, the sauce it came in was bland and tasteless and tasted like tinned tomatoes with a bit of over cooked veg added. I had the falafel and spinach burger which I enjoyed, although the salad came with onion even when I had asked for it without. Waitress asked if food was OK, told her our issues and she said she would tell manager - nothing more came of that. Overall, very poor. Wouldn't go again.

There was nothing "stone baked" about the pizza. A dry ready made base, barely any sauce and cheap tasteless cheese. I've had nicer frozen supermarket pizza. The other meals were clearly prepared ahead and just heated up. When you go out for dinner, you sort of expect the food to be nicer than what you can shove in the microwave yourself. On the other hand, the place is comfortable and nicely decorated.

We came for a weekend away. I'm vegan and there were no issues at all about having a lovely veggie burger and veggie pizza with no cheese. I also had a vegan chiabatta made for me which was lovely. My fiance enjoyed his macaroni, chilli baked potato and Chinese curry even though the curry was a tad cold. Looking forward to our next weekend away here.

Evening meal with family was disappointing, very bland and overpriced. The Restaurant was very quiet. Staff were busy chatting, we had to wait for over an hour. Burgers were awful. The Mediteranean salad was drowned in oil with no sign of any colour other than leafy green salad overcooked courgettes and aubergines. Only thing in order that was eaten was a pizza ( Grandson was starving! ) Never returned during our stay. If Hunters Bar and Grill put a little more effort into the menu and serving, this could be a great family restaurant.

We have used this place for a few years now whilst on holiday, the food is usually good and service is good. This year the service wasn't great, very under staffed in the mornings at breakfast, over charged on two days, one day half our order failed to arrive and the eggs had half a shell in!, had lunch one day, was ok bit expensive for pizza and chips ! Didn't have evening meal, as the menu had changed and wasn't impressive at all, and to be honest a little expensive for what was on offer. Shame as in previous years it has been nice.

We ate here 2 nights and although the food was good we did have to wait quite a while for our meals on both nights. On the first night we asked for the banoffie pie but they came back and said they didn't have any and would you like to choose something else so we asked for a cheesecake but then they came back and said they didn't have any if that either so no pudding on the first night. On the second night the waitress came with a list of foods they hadn't got and one of them was the steak which I was going to have. However I did choose the salmon and it was delicious even after a 45 min wait. I did get a pudding in the second night , a sticky toffee pudding, and it was also delicious. We ordered some drinks and they forgot to bring them so I had to remind them. In short the food is really good but the service isn't up to standard.

This is a nice well presented bar, better than you would expect for a caravan site. The weighting staff are very good but, must be sick of apologising for a failing kitchen. We booked a table for 9 people at 7 o'clock. When we arrived we were told there was an hour wait for food. It actually took just under 2 hours. When it did arrive the portions were disappointingly small but, it didn't matter because some of the food was raw and as a result was not eaten. Two Surf and Turf meals (£20 each) were bearly touched because the steak could not be cut, even with a steak knife, the mushrooms and other elements were raw. Even the chips were cold. The most basic kitchen can cook steak and chips- but not this one. A catastrophic kitchen fail for an ok venue with very nice waiting staff. I hope they manage to sort it out. Until then stay well away.

My daughter has coeliac and cannot eat wheat and there was only 2 things on the menu which catered to her needs, however the chef ensured that her choice was adapted. Day 2 she had the lentil soup and the staff did not object to her taking her own roll for dipping! First class customer service and the staff worked very hard but every single one of them remained cheery and more than happy to help.

Food was straightforward very well cooked and great value for money. We had a few other specials throughout the stay that were great too. I honestly didn't expect such decent food at a holiday park. Service was great too. Very friendly staff. Great work hunters quay.

I don't know why I am not too keen on this place, but I find it dark and dull and a bit oppressive. It was very noisy with people running in and out, and bashing by your table. The furnishings are nice, but the atmosphere a bit dark. The coffee was ok, the food was ok, nothing to write home about. This is probably not a very useful review, as I cannot put my finger on why I felt uncomfortable. In this instance I would say try it for yourself, and you may like it a lot better than I.

Ate at Hunters Bar & Grill during the busy October school holiday. Service was disorganised and slow (20 minutes from sitting down to having our order taken) although staff were individually friendly and helpful. Food was awful. Starter took an age to arrive and was over-cooked. Main courses arrived whilst we were eating the starter although they were taken away, they were clearly put under a heat lamp and returned without being freshly cooked.Unfortunately they came back. Pizza was poor. Bacon on the burger was so overcooked I couldn't remove without a battle the stick holding it together: burger itself was poor. My daughter didn't like her Mac & Cheese although my wife's steak pie was fine. Overall really poor, especially at over £70.

I use this restaurant fairly regularly and although I have always had a good meal, I know sometimes my family have returned their meals as unsatisfactory( not that often) for a variety of reasons. When this has happened however, the meals were always promptly changed with an apology.I used the restaurant again last Satuday with my daughter and felt I should write this as the meal as one of the best I have ever had. We started by sharing the Argyll Combo, a large plateful of potato skins, breaded mushrooms, chicken wings, chilli and various other bites. Excellent and plenty for two.My daughter had scampi from the menu and I had chicken drizzle from the specials, chicken cooked with peppers, onions and in a honey and chilli sauce served with rice and pitta bread. One of the tastiest ever. The service was good and not long to wait. Will be visiting again soon.

We ordered our food, only to be told 20 minutes later that what we ordered was not available. We arrived at 6:30pm and by the time we got our starters it was 7:45pm. The food was good and I enjoyed my steak pie, which was very meaty, however some in our party did not enjoy their steaks and felt they were rubbery. As we were messed around with our orders and the food took such a long time, they took 20% off our bill which was good of them.Friendly and polite staff.

This was our 3rd trip to Hunter's Quay although it's been 3 years since the last one. We ate in the restaurant for the first of our 4 night stay with the intention of venturing further afield later in the stay. However, the food was so good and well priced that we ended up eating there every night. We were out and about all over Cowal but were very happy to return to the Grill each night. Over the course of the stay I had the Jalfrezi, Bacon Chop, Argyll Burger (skinny) and Cajun burger. My wife stuck with the Cajun burger every night. The kids had Penne pasta, macaroni cheese, fish fingers. It was all very good. Pasta perhaps a little spicy for our children but still fine. We ended up splitting the kids meals between our kids as the portions were very big. the staff were happy with that as well. For my four main courses I was very happy with each of them. They were all well cooked and came hot. I personally prefer plates to the wooden serving board but that is a very minor comment. The staff were impeccable and at this time of the year it is wise to book a table as it was very busy. As an aside, Hunter's Quay is a great place and I look forward to returning soon.
