We called in for a Sunday lunch after a long walk with our dog. They were kind enough to let our dog in and we ordered a child's Sunday lunch for him and the cook was very kind coming out of the kitchen to check what she should take off the dinner to make it suitable for him. The lunch was average but it was the welcome we got and the kindness of the staff that really stood out.

I’m not sure what to say. Arrived at the destination. The place is out dated and extremely run down the rooms are disgusting. I was placed in the Village and the room was not worth the price I paid I wouldn’t even pay 20.00. I could see the receptionist wanted to help and so upgraded me to their deluxe. Which wasn't that much better there was a looked door in my room which kinda creeped me out. The bed was disgusting. It’s a shame the staff are lovely but the state of the rooms let them down. I will not be returning and I refused to eat their because of the state of the rooms I was wondering if standards were across the board. I actually ate at the premier Inn near by. I did actually try to book with them but it was too expensive.Creepy doorAnd deluxe bed.

Where to start! firstly the position of this hotel it is right on the river beautiful location. We ordered sharing platter, this was disappointing to say the least. It definitely needs investment.I used to visit this hotel in the past, and it has definitely gone downhill. The barman was pleasant but other than that I did not enjoy the experience.Such a lovely venue but neglected.

We were asked to stay in the building annexed onto the main hotel block. Very disappointed the bedding wasnt clean you had a general feel of being in a hostel. Checked out after the first night hotel manager apologised conceding the hotel is need of major refurbisment

I stayed here over 12 months ago and was booked in for a return visit this week. The food was poor, certainly not as good as my previous visit. I had a pizza which was overloaded with cheese and not much toppings. Reasonable prices but no thing much else good to say. Nice beer garden but was ruined by a big group of youngsters drinking, shouting and swearing which made for an intimidating atmosphere.

This hotel is ideal for contractors or people travelling on a budget. The rooms are basic but comfortable. The hotel is in a quiet area overlooking the Thames but away from all the hustle and bustle you normally get with hotels in the London area. Plenty of parking for cars and vans. Prices are much cheaper than other hotels in the area. Food is also reasonably priced even if the menu is a little bit basic, not a great deal of options but fine for a few nights. The decor and bathrooms in the rooms are a little tired in places but this is more than reflected in the room rates

We stayed at The Royal as we were visiting family nearby. It was exactly what we needed. It was clean, comfortable and good value for money. Also fantastic location for the M25! We will be sure to stay again when we are next in the area.

We all stayed here whilst working in the area, the hotel seems predominantly taken up by other contractors, the rooms were nice and clean but did appear to be heavily used, the showers were not great and we had an issue with ours not working at all but to be fair the manager did move us that evening to another room, the food served is really nice and really fairly priced so no complaints there, I would try and stop the Contractors congregating around the entrance to the rooms as this is quite off putting especially for couples or single visitors.

Terrible kerb appeal. What seems like boarded up windows. Entrance door was full of burly men drinking and smoking. At this point I nearly turned around. When I got inside I was surprised that the reception area, room, bar and restaurant were all quite nice. I stayed in room 44 which is on the lower ground floor overlooking the river and garden. Not at all private if you want your curtains open and see the view of the river. The garden looks like it could do with a tidy up. Bathroom has steps in it which is a bit dangerous if getting up in the middle of the night blurry eyed. Room seems next to cellar or boiler room as there was a constant hum all night. Large ships that pass on the river are noisy and cause vibration. Dinner was ok. I had mixed grill and it was good pub grub. Bar has river views. Full English breakfast was just ok. It's a cheap overnight stay

My partner booked this as a last minute overnight stay. On approaching the hotel we wondered if we had made a big mistake, but once we had parked and checked in, we found the hotel staff to be friendly and accommodating. Even though the hotel is undergoing refurbishment, the rooms allocated to us were clean, tidy, quiet and more than suitable for our overnight stay. The full English breakfast is definitely worth getting up for!Don't be put off by the exterior of this Hotel or its location, the family who run it are lovely and the location is right on the shores of the Thames...

A spur of the moment decision to grab a quick bite in what used to be our local, The bar had a number of lively locals as we ordered a baguette each and went outside to sit beside the River Thames and watch the world go by.Our baguettes duly arrived and both were very enjoyable.Very different from when we used to live there and a little empty considering the new housing that has sprung up all around the hotel.

New to the area so on the search for a new local I thought I'd try this place, the car parks a bit small and it has its own unique smell in the lobby, once in the bar it's self you have a proper 'pub atmosphere' no attitude but plenty of banter around the locals and an amazing view of the Thames. Yes it's a little dated but there are far worse places to go and the beer is decent enough and sensibly priced. I'll be back.

I went to the pub down stairs to get a drink and it did co me pretty quick. It was a bit crowded so I went outside to have my drink. The view of the river Thames was amazing and there was a park nearby for kids to play on and have fun overall I think it is a great hotel with good beds and rooms to stay in.

I used to work in the area and had been to this pub on a few occasions over the years. Slowly it seemed to go downhill and I was pleasantly surprised to see on the Web that it had been taken over by a group that owns several pubs. The website makes the pub look stunning, but don't be fooled. My wife and I had been shopping at Lakeside and although we had already chosen where to eat, I suddenly remembered the Royal and we decided to have lunch there. We walked into the entrance hall/Hotel reception but it was not staffed. I looked down the stairs and it looked a bit of a mess. The double doors to the bar were closed and I started to wonder whether the pub was open. We went in and the bar did not look any better than it did when I was last there. There was a couple eating, another man was seated on his own and there was a man at the bar. The bar lady was very friendly and I ordered a Chicken and Mayo Sandwich for my wife and I went for a Classic Burger and Fries. I also ordered two glasses of wine. My wife was happy with her sandwich, but my Burger was dry and over cooked. The plate was filled with a huge portion of Shoestring Fries, which I usually like, but these must have been 'Oven Chips' and I left most of them. As we ate, another three men arrived at the bar.As I was not particularly hungry I couldn't be bothered to take the meal back and make a fuss. The Bar Lady did ask if everything was OK, but that was only as she was collecting the plates. The Burger and Fries cost only £5 and I did not have the will to complain. In all, the bill was around £18 and when I paid I had already decided I would not be going back in the foreseeable future. As we left, one man was standing outside the entrance door and the other three from the bar were talking with him, but standing inside the entrance hall smoking. As a non-smoker I just had to hold my breath until I got outside. It is actually a terrible shame, because with some investment it could be a very good gastropub. It is in an ideal position right on the Thames. Maybe it is better at night when the hotel residents are there?

I stayed here towards the autumn in 2014 and it was a pleasant stay to be honest. My room was huge and faced the rear of the hotel, over looking the Thames. Creaky floor boards are a pet hate of mine as I always think the room below will here me walking about but this is a minor gripe for what was a nice stay. The food was very good and I think if I were down that way again (highly unlikely) I would look it up. PS - watch for a leaky window in a bedroom which didn't close to well in the wet weather & great for ship spotters!!!!

My wife & I visited the Royal Hotel for a Valentine lunch on Friday 13th because it is in a nice riverside location with good views across and along the river to Canary Wharf. We chose a table for two by the river and from the extensive pub food menu we enjoyed the platter to share - chicken wings, breaded mushrooms and scampi, onion rings and cheese garlic bread with cheezy chips on the side, with a nice Merlot. The whitebait in the platter description was not available. Total £17 for 2 was excellent value. The restaurant décor and furniture is well worn and in pressing need to be redecorated and smartened up because it should be a quality riverside restaurant.

Came in January 2014 to celebrate my dad's 60th with 14 people. My sister has a severe nut allergy and my mum was very impressed that when she rang to book the owner checked directly with the chef about cross contamination etc and have her 100% assurance that there would be no issues. On arriving for lunch we placed our drink orders at the bar and the lovely young waitress served us quickly and with a friendly smile. We sat down and chose our food order. Had to order at the bar but that was no issue. The food came out relatively quickly considering how many there were of us and the fact that it was all cooked fresh. The portions were huge! Even my daughter's child pasta was enormous! My daughter is dairy free and when it came to dessert, I asked for just fruit. The owner brought over a whole apple, banana and orange for my daughter. The chef then came over and said that if she wanted ice cream it would be on him! Bless him. :-) The total bill came to around £250 which was including alcoholic drinks and 2/3 courses for most of us. Really reasonable for 14 people I think. Would definitely go back as they made us feel like nothing was a problem, especially the nut allergy issue.
