We called to see if they could accommodate us with a table for 10, it was a last minute thing as we had just walked out of another restaurant after waiting 2 hours for a table we gad ore booked. I must say they were exceptional, really helpful, friendly and welcoming, the food was outstanding staff were really friendly and really made you feel at home, great atmosphere and surroundings, would really recommend The Royal Forester, a hidden gem

Went here this evening and it was very quiet, the staff were very friendly. We waited nearly 2 hours for overcooked pasta a mediocre vegan burger with soggy onion rings. They did give us complimentary olives and bread; and 20% off the bill. But the food was awful and the wait was just too long, won’t be revisiting

I was invited there on a Sunday by my husband for Sunday lunch as we have worked hard all week and it felt like a treat, it's a lovely country pub that we have been to previously just for drinks though, this was the first time for food as we have heard some great things about this place, we ordered the carve your own chicken which came with veg and potatoes, the chicken was very dry, the potatoes tasted reheated it felt like both have been sitting under a heated lamp for a couple of hours unfortunately. The veg was cold and not enough of it, 1 carrot and 1 parsnip and the gravy had no taste. I would visit again for drinks and not food

Had a £44 voucher for a deluxe afternoon tea for my birthday and used it here. We were very disappointed with the presentation and quality of the food. We were offered tea, coffee and prosecco which we said yes to, but on leaving we were told we had to pay for the prosecco. This should have been made clear at the beginning. As you can see from the photo it looks a very sad offering, there is no salad or fruit. The cakes are all squashed up on the top and sandwiches look very sad on the bottom. Certainly not worth £44 in my opinion, and also £15 for the 2 glasses of prosecco, totalling £59.

When we arrived we were shown to our table and asked if we wanted tea, coffee and prosecco to which we said yes. These were served and then the afternoon tea was brought over. We were extremely disappointed in the quality of the sandwiches and cakes. We were served between 2 of us 9 small finger sandwiches, 2 scones and 4 small sponge cakes. The scones were rock hard and the cakes stale so we left them. I would hardly call this deluxe. We expected far more and better quality for this price. This wasn't even good enough to be a standard afternoon tea. £44 when it cost probably far less than £10 to produce, what made it worse was that on leaving we were asked to pay £15 for the prosecco. We had presumed that this was the "deluxe" aspect of the afternoon tea, but clearly not. We were confused as we hadn't asked for the prosecco, we were offered it. Has they said "would you like anything else to drink" we would then have assumed that we would have to pay extra for it, but this wasn't the case. I have emailed the Royal Forester twice but they have failed to respond.

I and 15 members of the same family went for a Boxing day meal. The meal was very poor. if it had not been a party quite a few would had sent it back, the fish was served with potato wedges and not chips as on menu, and not edible. fish was dry tasted as if it had all been warmed up and left under a heat lamp for hours .very disappointed. i have phoned and had a poor response he said "I will get to the bottom of it" I expect a bit more after spending that amount of money.

What a gem. Hadn’t been for years as it wasn’t great but now it’s definitely one to keep going back to. Neither of our friends had been and they were knocked out with it. Great place to take your dog to too. Lovely staff and greeting. Lovely wood burner and a nice cosy place to eat. Shaun served us nothing was too much trouble. They even have a bell on the table if you need anything! Fabulous menu and great for vegetarians or vegans. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly and extremely tasty. Shouldn’t have had a pudding as we really didn’t have any room, but we did. Absolutely amazing

Enjoyed an impromptu visit due to our original venue choice being closed, what a stroke of good luck! Delicious home-cooked food, piping hot and, considering the quality, INCREDIBLY good value! Our choice was a Minced Venison pie with fresh veg and new potatoes. Great selection of beers (it was lunchtime so didn’t try wine) and again, these were VERY reasonably priced. We’ll behaved dogs welcome, which is a great bonus as the Wyre Forest visitors centre is a couple of hundred yards down the road! This is NOT a chain pub so the food is cooked after you ordered and not ‘pinged’ cook-chilled mass produced stodge by a microwave jockey! Worth the wait!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We moved local to the Forester in 2020. We were so pleased to be within walking distance to a countryside pub - but every time we've tried, which is a lot - its been a disappointment. I so wish that this was not the case. We would love to have a good local pub to take visitors to! I won't go into detail of all the previous times we have eaten or ordered from here, as this would not be fair. We stayed away for over 12 months, whilst they were rated 1* for food hygiene - which, considering they had two consecutive 1* ratings a year apart, is hard to comprehend. Anyway, having recently received a 4*, we thought we would give them another go, wanting to support a local business in the new year, when we know that lots of people don't eat out. First impression was not good. There was no 'welcome', and even though I was all smiles and said that we had made a reservation, my smile was not mirrored in the host and we were taken to a cramped table against a wall. This is peronal preference I suppose, but considering 90% of the tables were unoccupied, I did think this was an odd choice. We sat down and immediately realised there was a massive oversight in the lighting design. They have low hanging lights over the tables, with high wattage bulbs. It was blinding! I know this might sound really fussy - but I dare anyone to sit in front of that for an evening meal and not leave without a headache. We asked to move to a table where there was a light out, which they were fine with. I had the venison pie, my partner opted for the burger. The pie arrived with four tiny jacket potatoes. The menu had stated 'roast potatoes'. I mentioned this and asked for some chips instead, which they were happy to provide (thank you). The pie was ok. A bit too salty, and the pastry was soggy, as if it had been microwaved, but it was perfectly edible. The best way to describe the chips would be day old reheated potato wedges - hard, dry and tasteless. My partners burger, although tasty, was very small... I think most people (with larger appetites) would lift the top of the bun and say... 'where is it'? There was no cheese, relish etc. I think that the restaurant is being run by people who really do not know what they are doing and have no experience - so I do sympathise. But at the same time, as locals, it would be so nice to have place that we can walk to for a nice meal. I am hoping that one day soon, this will be the case - please! For this to happen I would imagine that significant investment is required - which in the current economic climate, may not come soon. We will endeavour to try again in the future, if we hear reports of improvement. I am sorry if the 2* offends... I was going to go for 3*, but as 3* is 'average'... it had to be a 2, as the offering we received was below average. I do not like writing poor reviews - almost all of my reviews are celebrating places that are getting it right, so I'm not a serial complainer - but having been disappointed time after time here, I'm frustrated and want it to change.

Chips & mushrooms were nice though 👍🏻 Pudding…waffles & ice cream was lovely! I asked the young lady (who delivered our food & drinks later on!) for a small glass of house WHITE wine 🍷……..I was served RED 🫣 OVERALL…maybe put the specials (2 for £12 & voucher deals on a separate menu?) 🔥We found it hard to figure out our deal & had to ask more than once! 🔥Ask your customers if they’d like white, red or rose wine!

On arrival we were shown to our table and asked if our daughter would like a sandwich of her own as part of the tea for 2 (This was a really nice touch and our daughter really enjoyed her sandwich and sharing the cakes). The afternoon tea was by far the best we have had. Quality ingredients and all really fresh. Would highly recommend the afternoon tea. I have never been anywhere so rude. Walked in to enquire about a table for lunch with the dogs in tow and told ‘not today’. Dogs are allowed in the bar area however they had put a function in there whilst an empty restaurant remained. They have a conservatory but they had removed all the tables from it and the ladies response was ‘you can eat off your lap’. I mean if I wanted to eat off my lap I would of stopped at home. She went out of her way to be hostile, rude and not once apologised or tried to accommodate us. She happily refused our business and quickly showed us the door. Even when we asked for help to find another local restaurant as we were unable to get signal and didn’t know the area that well. She continued to be rude, obnoxious and quite frankly patronising. This has been a place I have visited a few times and have enjoyed the food but after today’s situation I will no longer be taking my custom or recommending any further custom to this establishment.

I am so disappointed!! This was such a fab restaurant/pub , close to home with great food and service. The last two years the menus have been pants , to the point we no longer eat Xmas day dinner here . Tonight we thought we would give it a try after the lovely refurb . Ohh dear , the food again !!! On a Friday night at 730 we were told out of duck ?? Why on the menu then ? Then we were told out of house Shiraz ... really it’s your house wine ?? Camembert starter , very uninspiring, chunks of bread no crudités so stuffed if you ate all . Was bought the wrong main dish . Front of house did take blame which made me say that I would eat new dish for being honest , however was bland (hubby ate half) . We then were forgotten for desert waited over 20 mins when we were promised menu, again server took blame which made us still hang in there. Desert- very poor , soggy base cheesecake , way too sweet, strawberry mouse was stodgy and awful . Coffees bought st same time, no milk offering or sugar . They did offer a free bottle of wine as a way of apology. 85 pound for a very sub- standard place to eat . So frustrating because looks so lovely , we so t be dining here sgain

My family and I had an excellent Christmas lunch at The Royal Forester on Christmas Day which was a huge relief as the decision to eat out on such a special day and the price tag meant that expectations were high.

We visited for Sunday lunch today. Service was great from the outset. We ordered three roast beef and a plaice. The beef was excellent and plentiful, roasties, Yorkshire pud and veg all great. The plaice wasn't very good but it was exchanged immediately without any issue.

I called and booked a table (don't be put off by the strange BT screening phone system!) and met some friends here for a pre-Christmas meal and we were all wowed by the Christmas Fayre Menu. The three of us had different choices from the special menu and can highly recommend the paté, croquettes and beef and hake. The creme brulée was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked! Service was very friendly. Prices reasonable and good value for money, especially if you have three courses.

Six of us were celebrating our sons 50th birthday and he had booked the dinner at The Royal Foresters as something special. It was Saturday night and the place was almost empty. Not a good signWe had five steaks and one pheasant, which were quite good except that my steak was almost cold. The plates were cold. There were mushrooms and onion rings and the chips were hot in a separate dish. The service was not good, although the staff were pleasant. We ordered olives and oil. That didn't come at all. The vegetables with the main meals turned up eventually, but about half way through the main course. We didn't have them. The starters were good but we waited ages for the main course, and ages before we were offered the sweet menu. By this time our 14 and 12 year olds were sleeping at the table. We had sat down a 7 pm and we left about 9.45 pm. The olives were on the bill, but they did remove them, and they didn't charge for the cold steak, but the bill was still just above £200. It did include 2 bottles of red wine and some water. Our table was opposite the main entrance and we suffered a blast of cold air every time someone entered or left. The place was not very warm, although there was a wood burning stove, but there was no fire showing. They could have put us on a better table as most were empty even though it was Saturday nightWe were very disappointed and we won't be trying it again.

We booked a Sunday lunch for 6 people. The service was very, very slow, but the fact that they had virtually no water due to a broken pipe in the road might have been the sole cause of this. Partridge was on the menu, so some had that and others the more conventional roasts. The food was fine, and the building is beautiful; pity they couldn't pinch some land to enlarge the car park!

We visited this restaurant last night for a meal and were very disappointed. It was a French menu with wines from Alsace (£35 for 3 courses with wine) and we had been informed prior by e-mail that it would be possible to have 2 courses without wine for £20, yet there was some doubt about this when we arrived and nothing to that effect on the menu itself. Other groups eating in the restaurant seemed to be having their orders taken before being shown to their table, yet we were left on our own to wander through to find our table without having our order taken. Initially there was great confusion over the fish on the menu-it was listed as Zander but the waitress was adamant it was trout. We had to ask twice for water to be brought to the table. Understandably being a special menu meant that there weren't a huge number of choices, but none really sounded amazing. We opted for 2 fish (Zander) and 1 Alsatian dumpling. This latter consisted of a plain bowl of shredded dumpling in a fairly tasty sauce with a few wild mushrooms-a distinct lack of other vegetables -the 2 Zander looked nicer but also had the dumpling mix underneath-again a lack of vegetables. There was a very long wait for the desserts-the waitress said it was due to the number of people in the restaurant. For the desserts we opted for the cherries in brandy, poached pear and cheese. The pear dessert looked and tasted good, there weren't many cherries in the brandy batter, and the cheese was distinctly disappointing. There was one small wedge of cheese, a couple of small crackers, a few chunks of celery, a couple of vegetable crisps, a few slices of dried fig and 2 rock hard dried apricots-not really sure what they were doing there and the they didn't add anything to the plate. Looking at the other reviews it seems this place is usually great, but perhaps we were unlucky to go in October, and perhaps unlucky with our choices

Went here for lunch with a friend recently having not been for a while- I'm pleased to say the standards have remained high. My main course salad was £9.95 and ample. They offer an interesting specials menu of two courses for £13.99 which, price-wise, is slightly above average for the area but if you're hungry the portion size is good. I'd recommend it!

Not as good as the chippy in Astwood Bank but the chubby lad Lucas with the Jake Paul haircut is relatively pleasant in a simple kind of way. Their best worker Mandip has unfortunately left.

My friend and I went for a last lunch here today as The Forest has been sold and closes tomorrow. It will be much missed as it’s always had wonderful food, atmosphere and very friendly and professional staff. Hopefully the new owners can match the current standards. It’s main problem is that it’s position on the high street means that it has difficulty picking up passing trade as it’s easy to drive past while looking for the entrance and it’s a fair way before you can turn round! So, good luck with trying to solve that puzzle. So, we’re going to try the sister restaurant, The Chequers at Crowle...

Since moving away from the area, it's been a good few years since last visited here, fantastic welcome by all of the young, enthusiastic staff who could not do any more to ensure that we had a great evening. Excellent food in the lovely surroundings, loved the addition of the outside bar and the street food served looked great. We will definitely be back when next down.
