The Royal Fish Bar in Mid Sussex

I've been here many times and it is consistently excellent. It's my go to fish & chip shop in Burgess Hill and its a bit cheaper than most of the others in town. Generous portions, great quality fish and perfect chips. It's a slightly shabby looking place but don't let this put you off!

I go here for fish and chips every week and it never fails to satisfy! Absolutely Delicious!! If I could give 10 stars I would!

I have used this chip shop for 6 years and always had the best food just lately it’s been dropping down hill. Today my kids nugget was so over cooked even my dog didn’t eat them I call to say I was unhappy with them to be told no need to be rude I told them Iv only ever used this shop and no other chip shop I was not even offered my money back if nuggets went back or free chips next time when I said I won’t be back was told that’s good 😡😡

Consistently delicious fish and chips. The fish is tender and tasty with crispy flavoursome batter, the chips are the perfect combo of crispy outer and fluffy inner. Every time. Even the little crispy bits left at the bottom of the chip bag are good. Never had a better fish n chip dinner than you get here. I'm told the veggie burger is pretty scrummy too!

Cannot fault the F&C here, no greasy batter, all freshly cooked and piping hot, fish is good and with no skin - this doesn't bother me anyway but my husband isn't keen on skin - good curry sauce, and we have had the battered sausage too, really nice. Good prices, great chippy.

The highlight of my result day was the chicken nuggets and scampi I had, very filling and tasty, couldn’t recommend it more! Celebration meal well had. Special mention for the scampi as it is delicious!

As a regular customer (at least once a week) I feel qualified to rain as much recommendation on the Royal Fish bar as possible, notably the friendly Margo and Armin. Our usual cod and chips is always fresh and well prepared not to mention substantial portions. I am convince that you will not regret a visit.

This is our local fish and chip takeaway and we feel very lucky to have it on our doorstep. Won't go anywhere else now. Chips are incredible (crispy outside and fluffy inside even once we have got them home) and it has always been a great experience. Friendly staff and great food. Everything you could hope for! I suppose we are a little unadventurous as we only ever have Cod & Chips with a side of jumbo sausages, curry sauce and gravy. But if ain't broke...

I’ve tried all the local chippys and the Royal is definitely the best. Chips are golden and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. You might have to wait for a few minutes as they are cooked fresh to order but it’s worth the wait. Pleasant staff, especially the polite Scottish lady.

Pre-orderd by telephone, to be collected. Tasted fresh, the batter on the fish wasnt greecy. Chips lovely, and sides were just as nice. Friendly staff as always. Definitly recommend...best chip shop in town, 5 stars given from us.

The fish and chips are really good. The fish is always fresh and a very good size, the chips always seem freshly cooked no oily taste like they have been sitting in the fryer for hours. Try the scampi, it's delicious. On top of this they deliver... Which is great as the food good arrives nice and hot. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

The Royal Fish bar serves the most amazing golden chips.I can also vouch for the scampi which is always golden and delicious. The portions are hearty my Mum can't always finish her Cod as it is so big but our dog is always happy to assist. I highly recommend that you experience the Royal Fish bar.

Brought 7pm tonight. Asked for large cod. Could see a thin small piece of cod cooked, just knew I’d get it as a pass off for a large cod as obv couldn’t be bothered to cook me a large piece. Fish was gone in three mouthfuls no joke. Love fish and chips so expect a large cod and yes I know what a large cod should be.

Very quick service and reasonable price. The cod was cooked perfectly and the mushy peas with mint very tasty. Chips also good.

Very pleasant place to visit, the food is great and fantastic service and friendly staff, it's a bit off the beaten track but very easy to find if you don't know the area

We always buy our chips from here, just wondered if it has changed hands???? The chips were not very nice at all. They were rock hard a-bit like when you used to buy the scraps. My sausage was soggy and had no batter on it. A real shame normally fantastic! :(

Avoid at all cost. Rats running through the kitchen. When I told them they kicked me out. Reported to the council.

Our new regular fish / burger take out restaurant. Really good quality, food portion sizes. Friendly staff. The kebabs are really tasty. My wife loves the burgers here too. Used twice in 5 days 🙂 👍👍

We eat from here as a family at least once a week , all freshly cooked, fish, chips, pies and all. Very nice .Enjoy

What a great local chip shop, excellent tasting fish and chips. We have found this shop to have great tasty chips, a good menu selection, quick service, great freindly staff. They even have a good choice kids menu. The prices are good compared to some chip shops in the area. They even use one of those delivery company's if you so wish, but there is an additional charge.

This chippy is the best around. The food is always fresh and beautifully cooked with little waiting time. The staff are friendly, chatty and efficient. I just keep coming back!

Having moved to Burgess Hill earlier this week. We decided to try out this Fish & Chip ship just by Wivelsfield station and have to say the code and chips was fantastic. Nice flaky cod and crispy chips. My daughter had scampi and chips which was just as good.

Excellent local chippie. Great range of options including fish, burgers, pies and even kebabs. Fresh and delicious every time, and not over priced like so many now - even has a kids menu. Very handy if coming out of Wivelsfield station. 10/10.

Under new management, the Royal Fish Bar has a very friendly staff and cooks delicious fish & chips - always cooked to order. The short wait for your meal to be cooked is well worth the time, as our weekly meals are always well wrapped, piping hot, reasonably priced and fresh. We have been visiting here for many years and it is apparent, seeing new customers all the time, that the word is spreading. Yummy!!!!!!

Luckily I live very nearby this fish shop and it has never disappointed me, staff are always lovely and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. They seem to have branched out a bit more recently with their variety of food and it seems to be doing well for them and they have never let their standards slip on what they do best! (Fish and chips) Will always be returning here for my fish and chips, yum yum!

I'm quite fussy with fish and chips but this place hits the spot! It's cooked fresh to ordered but it's worth the wait and means it's nice and hot! The chips are just perfect chip shop chips! No bad comments to make, highly recommend.

Comprar pescado y patatas fritas desde este lugar varias veces y siempre ha sido genial. Las porciones son muy generosas, y el pescado es siempre fresco. El personal es muy amable y acogedor. A veces hay que esperar un poco a cocinar cosas frescas, lo que puede ser un poco molesto, pero al menos te dan comida recién hecha.

En última! He estado esperando años para una calidad fish and chips" para tomar el lugar de negocios que se quedaron sin lo que ahora es Café Makara. El pescado y las patatas fritas desde siempre de un alto nivel y si nuestro primero tomar desde el Royal pescado Bar es algo para ir por, tenemos un digno sucesor.

My loyalty has moved to the new owners of the Royal Fish bar from across the town. The plaice I usually have is so fresh and the chips crispy on the outside and soft inside. No going back!

We were recommended to try by friends. Excellent value & really nice fresh fish with a good batter which was slightly different to the norm & not greasy at all.

Now called the Royal Fish Bar, really good quality food and service. Best in Burgess Hill for me.2nd time I visited since it changed management and was impressed. This is the sort of quality you want from a Take-Away. Do try it out.
