I know this hotel got some bad reviews and I was worried about staying here however, I was pleasantly surprised, the rooms were spacious and clean, staff friendly and the food was good

Stayed here for business with 3 colleagues this week as we were going to the Executive Hire Show at Coventry. What a disaster ! Checking in, they had no record of our booking despite paying it a month ago and showing the receipt. Had to pay again and query the next day with the booking company. We then found out there was no food available for guests checking in later. Rooms poor, dirty and the overall service was awful. Took 20min to get 4 short measures from the bar which shut at 11:00pm. Just an awful large Fawlty Towers experience. Stay well away.

Awful hotel. Van broken into through the night and tools stolen - it seems that this is a common occurrence looking at previous reviews. I’ll be speaking to Booking.com about this hotel too. Do not stay

Went with Caledonian on an overnight Mystery tour. We stayed in Leamington Spa for the Saturday afternoon and then landed at this hotel for overnight stay. I had room 150, paid a single room supplement and what a dump this room was. It was a twin but only one half worked! The right hand curtain was hanging off, the left bedside table lamp didn't work as it had the wrong fitting, the console table was falling apart even though it had the tea making facilities on it and the kettle had been boiled dry so many times it was black at the bottom. The right hand side bed which I had to sleep on to manage the lights was like a concrete slab and to put the top hat on it I couldn't even get a mobile signal so total blackout all night. The food was lovely and so was the trip and the driver as we went to Stratford on Avon on the Sunday so no reflection on Caledonian but the room was a total joke.

Room was outdated, lift floor had seen better days, corridor was a wash with the smell of canabis, only positive thing to say was John who was sent out on to the main road, to look out for me, he was a nice chap & a credit, his the only reason I gave it a 2.

Our stay was horrendous, our bedroom was dirty like it had been used before us. Reception just moved us to another room like it was acceptable for us to go into a room that was dirty. Breakfast was lovely and the chef and the staff were really nice and was always keen to help. Dinner staff not so very helpful or organised, tables were not cleaned properly after every use. After speaking to breakfast manager asking if there’s been a change in management she informed me that there’s been a change in management, her and her husband, think it’s appalling that there’s management working together when they are family and attempting to big themselves up but not once did I hear about her staff who were working none stop that morning, even 1 member of staff with dark brown hair was working in the restaurant on her own trying to clear tables for at least half an hour. Swimming was nice and relaxed but we did not use the gym.

This was a coach trip with Caledonian, nothing against them it was all the hotel, this was for new year for 4 days. The management and staff of this hotel, don't seem to understand how important new year is to us traditionally, there was no thought at all put into the events or decoration all weekend. I definaltly expected a lot more. I booked this as husbands birthday 1st Jan he is 66 so he retires aswell and wanted it to be special, the entertainment was terrible new years eve eve and new years eve the disc jokey didn't speak till 11.45pm there was no atmosphere at all, new years day was a lot better however they tried to close the bar at 10.30pm with no announcement?, we were all in a room that looked like a wedding venue? New year's day there was nothing on at all, during the day so disappointing. The meal on new years eve eve wasn't the best beef was tough and gravy like water. New years eve was buffet was cooked well but just not filling enough or appetising, enough when your going to be drinking alcohol. In the bar the staff didn't have a clue or understand when we were asking for drinks, theydidn't know what a( lime and soda was), when husband commented on condition of beer, the barman started arguing with husband, the prices of drink changed everytime he went to the bar they didn't have a clue, also when asking the reception staff for time tables or where to go for public transport, they didn't seem to realise how important this was, and sent us the wrong way for it. There were no health and safety posters in rooms ie where to go if a fire. The reason we picked this hotel was the pool, however it didn't open till 9am, so couldn't go before breakfast and couldn't go in afternoon as last entry was 4pm even though it didn't close till 5pm, they must realise people are on trips all day? Also It was closed new years day, the day we had nothing to do, gutted isint the word. Tonight's tea was lovely I must say the the chef was the most happest person we have spoke to all weekend, apart from our driver Paul, what a lovely man. This has put us off for going away new year, and we won't ever return to this venue

Booking in to this hotel was horrendous, the receptionest a big asian man was realley unhelpful,he was asked what times are the meal time and was told they are in the room, he was asked were is the room without looking up he just waved his arm and said up there? we found the room after 20 mins when some work men who were staying there told us the way, later went for dinner, there were no tables set although there were staff standing around talking, but Sara came out and she did the work for all the staff, she cleaned the tables relayed tables while the wounger staff just stood there and talked? breakfast was a joke, again no tables set, the chef kept coming in to replenish the food and to clean the food area, he kept throwing his arms in the air because the food area was filthy, the chef kept telling the staff to keep it clean but they just walked away laughing? there was no cups or saucers no knives and forks, some of the food was missing, it was'nt very good, the room was ok it was clean but basic, no plug for the sink but clean, going to the room on the first day there was dirty washing on the stair landing, going home on the third day it was still there? My wife went to complain about the big aisian man and spoke to a nice aisian man who could not appolagise enough, but the damage is done? the hotel is not to bad but it is tired, because the weather was good we sat out side at night but what a shame, where the tables are, there are millions of cigerett butts just at the side of where you sit? Over all the room was ok Sarha was excellent, and a young lad, don't know his name, the man who runs the restaurant needs retraining as he can't run it properly, he should hand over the job to Sarha? the other staff are not very nice, the food is poor, it just wants a new manager to get the hotel back on track

Probably my worst Hotel stay ever. Avoid at all costs!!! Booked the hotel knowing the price had been elevated due to the Commonwealth Games but over £180 for one night with breakfast was absolute robbery for the standard of the room, service and the breakfast we received. The staff on the whole were rude and unhelpful the ‘manger’ at breakfast looked like he’d been wearing the same clothes for days. The night staff couldn’t wait to get our money then we had to fight our way through a crowded bar with our luggage to get to our room. There was no offer of assistance and no option of room service or food as they were not serving bar food, remember I paid £180 for this. The room was basic, stained carpet, bathroom full of flies due to us being right above the bins that were overflowing. There were tea and coffee making facilities but no mugs! No toiletries in the bathroom, no bath mat and the bath was very slippery £180 remember. Onto breakfast the room was very badly laid out and it was difficult to get to a table without moving someone who was eating, the table in the doorway was dirty and covered with rolls of cleaning towel and sprays. A number of the tables were dirty even though they were laid out. The bread was cheap thin bread, cheapest sachets of sauces, tasteless mushrooms and tomatoes, although I have to say bacon was OK. Did not get chance to try fruit as to they never restocked it, all for £180!!! Wish I had the opportunity to walk away not the best advert for the UK as many guests were attending the Commonwealth Games. Probably would have been cheaper to get a taxi home.

It wasn’t as bad as I expected given some of the reviews I’d read. Yes the rooms and hotel is generally tired but my room was clean and had everything I needed for 1 night. The bed wasn’t very comfy. After reading the reviews I was dreading staying at this hotel as part of a coach party but found the hotel and rooms to be clean and tidy. Yes it could be improved by having a slightly softer mattress and more than one soft pillow on the bed. The bathroom in room 338 was quite large and clean but the extractor didn't work and the body wash container above the bath / shower was empty. Shower was good with lovely hot water. Room had a kettle with tea, coffee and milk, one large mug and one small cup ? Food for breakfast and dinner was good and plentiful and restaurant staff although rushed off their feet with 3 coach parties staying were only to happy to help. Same with most of the bar staff. Young women on checking in could have smiled and been more pleasant but the young man next morning could not have been more pleasant. Hotel was basic but clean and needs just a little money to improve a couple of things in order to get much better reviews.

Tub chairs in the bar area were, damaged, broken and had legs removed so felt like you were sat on the floor. Strong smell of cannabis from other guests smoking outside the building. The post code on the email they sent us was wrong, so the sat nav sent us to an old folks home. Think we would have preferred to stay there. Hadnt read previous reviews as would have given it a miss. Wife and I stayed here for New Year and overall enjoyed the experience, we found the room to be large enough and on the whole clean baring in mind that we were informed that the Maid service would not be used during our stay due to it being New Year, but if you needed towels or anything else then reception would be able to sort. The meals were Buffet style where you helped yourselves and the quality was really good and enjoyable and the Staff were very polite and helpful throughout the Hotel, The only thing that marred a perfect weekend was a Family of inbreeds that got boozed and possibly drugged up and decided that unruly behaviour in the Bar and then fighting in our corridor at 01:00 in the morning was acceptable but thankfully the Hotel Management had the situation in hand and the said Family were kicked out,,hooray. So we then were able to enjoy New Years Eve the civilised way.

Got up to the room and only had one pillow on the bed spite there being two if us staying and when asked for another was told no they didn't have any for us... Also booked a more expensive room which was no difference between the size or comfort of others. The bed was hard and uncomfortable with springs poking out.. the bathroom was dirty and the toilet didn't flush unless the lid was removed. There were several holes in the walls as well..so not a pleasant stay at all. Especially for someone with physical disabilities like myself. Not worth £73 at all. Staff were very rude.

The whole hotel was badly designed and really could look better than a cheap b and b or hostel. The staff really had work cut out. The bathroom updates are cheap and nasty. And the bathroom.was freezing. For a hotel with a beautiful old building and grounds it really didn't look like the pictures Bedding was thin. Cold and hard beds. Shame really. The hotel grounds are lovely, this is the only positive thing I can state about this hotel. The room was drab and the en-suite was full of moths dead and alive. To the extent that I had to clean the shower before I used it. I didn’t complain about this as I was exhausted after along drive.I asked at the reception if I could get anything to eat from the restaurant. The receptionist stated that I could have a car very for £8.00 but I would have to pay her now . I got my ticket for the car very. And pondered down to the restaurant. I waited awhile to be told (quite abruptly) that I would sit over there, as the waitress pointed to a table. The table was sticky. I then proceeded to get my meal. But there was a small piece of cremated meat. I asked if there was any more meet. And was told I would have to wait. The only veg available was a few limp green beans. There was a few potatoes. Which where inedible. I asked for apple sauce, they didn’t have any. Breakfast was worse, ignorant staff again. No fruit juices, which the container was empty, tea and coffee where Luke warm. There where cups with no saucers. Dirty and clean together, with spillages of tea, coffee, sugar etc slopped everywhere. There was one rubber egg, one piece of dried out bacon. I had to look for a clean plate. But the worse item was when I went to get cutlery, the grey container was filthy, with little dead flies and dirt. I have took photographs, I complained to the catering supervisor as manager unavailable.

Breakfast was a good selection but the open bowls of sauce and sugar that everyone had to share put me off ..again not the standard you would expect ..A real shame as it has great potential, beautiful grounds and and previously had done a great job .

I visited the hotel pool facilities just the other day with my husband and 3 year old son. As the pool is part of the hotel I was expecting the facilities to be of a high standard. Unfortunately my hopes were completely dashed, what a disappointment. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful and I guess the pool was ok. The sauna, steam were very tired looking. In fact the steam room is far from adequate, with the steam extractor poorly located and no markings indicating its location, which I have to say was around a broken floor tile. A health and safety failure. The changing rooms are dirty and cluttered full of random things. The floors are dirty and the toilets were in a poor state. As for the showers OMG they were awful. The cubicles were so dirty I couldn't see that they'd ever been cleaned. There was hair and dried up shampoo on the walls not to mention tissue in the shower tray. In the men's changing rooms there are was no rubber matting and there were puddles everywhere. The cubicles are all singles so my husband struggled to shower my son. Each shower switched off after 15 seconds which is ridiculous. There were no hooks to hang towels, and nowhere to put toiletries. Neither changing room had costume dries so everything was soaking. We were so disappointed with the facilities and wont be visiting again. I was looking to open a membership as it's close to home but I wouldn't even consider it now. I cannot believe that hotel guests are subjected to the 'health & spa' facilities and expected to pay extra!! I've been to many gyms, hotels and spas and I have to say this one is pretty miserable. Serious investment of money and man power required to bring this place up to a respectable standard. Be prepared if you decide to go.

1st impressions of this hotel were good, the main old building is lovely and the grounds outside. Reception is very grand, fur coat and no knickers comes to mind. Our room was spacious but not very clean. Soap from the previous guest was in the shower and contact lenses were left on the bed side table making me doubt whether the room had been cleaned at all. The food was below average, we stayed for 3 nighrs and the food was the same every night. Tasted like the vegetables had been recooked from the previous night. Staff in the restaurant were rude and unhelpful when asked about allergens as my Husband is coeliac. Each morning and evening we cleared and wiped our own tables. Entertainment was poor, on Saturday evening there was nothing not even a bit of music so we went to bed early rather than spend money at the bar. On Sunday night there was a DJ who was lovely but the room we were in wasn't cleaned and the tables had no cloths. The DJ asked a manager three times for table cloths and no one ever came back. Overall our visit was poor the only good thing about this trip was when we left to visit the Cotswolds. I have contacted the hotel directly but had no reply. We booked this trip through National Holidays who responded by saying the hotel is short staffed and that it was at maximum guest capacity the weekend we stayed, this is a poor excuse.

We were looking forward to our afternoon tea and swim at the Royal Court as years ago it had a great reputation. Sadly, the changing rooms were grubby and reminded me of those in my school in the 1980's! We had booked our afternoon tea and the receptionist was aware of our booking but the gentleman serving the teas wasn't expecting us. The area which we were served in overlooking the gardens was tatty and decorated and furnished like an old pub. There was even a slot machine in the area which was in constant use during our visit. We had to wait 40 minutes for our afternoon tea and the sandwiches were dry and disappointing. The barman who served the tea had even run out of cups! (There were only four other people in there!). I expect an afternoon tea to be served in a more pleasant, clean environment and won't be using or recommending the Royal Court again.

The hotel bedrooms are very tired looking so if going for the shabby chic look, they've succeeded! Our bathroom door had 3 massive dents in the panel, all very dark wood. Room and bathroom was spotless. Bed very firm but creaky when sat on the side of the mattress. You will have to ask for a further pillow as what was on our bed were 1 very flat pillow, the size of a 14inch cushion!

This hotel looks like a fine country retreat upon arriving. The decor and grounds look splendid. Then upon entering room 259, I was greeted with carpets that’s not fit for a dog! Frayed and smelly. The room is very basic. Not even a three pin plug by your bed so you can charge the phone. No wifi in the room and only three channels work on the t.v. A cheap quality mattress and a rickety base. Tv is tiny, no fridge and poor quality coffee with no biscuits. Pillows are cheap hollow fibre and the wooden facias in the bathroom are all worn and battered. There’s a damp wall and ceiling. Would never return. I asked for a refund as I checked out a day early. I was informed that I should have notified them in the morning. I notified them upon my return from a day trip at around 15:30. This establishment should be closed down for renovation. Even the receptionist said the reviews are bad.

Had a nice relaxing evening and managed to get a good nights sleep. Everything you needed was to hand. TV was a little small but was catching up on work so was not watching it. Shower was easy to operate but sink taps turned the opposite way but worked ok. A little loud at times from others in hotel but was easy to ignore. Over all a lovely stay.

There is a reason that tripadvisor provides us with 5 stars ... some hotels eschew quality, service and luxury; some, the middle of the road ones, just get on and deliver; and then of course there are those, like this one, that even awarding a star seems a little generous... it should really be a poo emoji not a star.

I attended a wedding at the Royal Court and it was a disaster there was no wedding Co-ordinator and there did not look as if there were any Managers around, all I saw was kids serving and the bar staff. The meal was terrible the roast potatoes were black and inedible the table next to ours sent the potatoes back to the kitchen, it was returned with the message saying there was no better ones. A friend of mine who is vegetarian had a risotto which also was inedible and she said it was like wallpaper paste. We all gave up at this stage, this was the worst meal I have ever had at the Royal Court.

Royal Court Hotel, the rooms were totally filthy, there was dust, dirt and debris to most of the high and low areas, numerous marks and some vomit to walls, most toilets in communal areas required cleaning and some re-sealing in 1 cubicle there was feces to the wall.  Carpets were torn and thread bare and also required a good clean to edges. curtains had large amounts of dust, some needed rehanging. The table we sat at in the dining room had a knife left on the floor for 2 meal sevices also the window sill had a dead fly which was still there when we left, table bases, salt and pepper pots were never cleaned, numerous people handed back dirty crockery. To sit in reception and watch people check in was pure entertainment because you knew within 15 minutes they were going to be back to complain and get moved. Putting some elderly people in these rooms is totally wrong because most might not see or notice these things.

First and last time of using this hotel. Headed to bed, just after midnight, windows ajar as it was warm. Next door room returned just after 1am, loud laughing, chatting, thought it would subside, however at 1.45 am, it was probably louder !! Phoned reception and asked it they could have a word with them to quieten down. Yes, they would send someone to investigate my complaint. Now 2.30 nothing has changed, phoned again, reception said, they were not sure, if coming from our next door, so I said feel free to come in the room, to hear the volume of noise. No one appeared. 3am I phoned again and got a different member of staff, who said, that they were entitled to talk. At this point, tears were trickling down my face as no one cared!! 3.03am, reception called me back, to say another room had complained. I raised the question of etiquette and quietness rules but sadly, the staff were not interested. So I started to bang on the wall, by 4am, quietness arrived (by now, had been awake 3 hours - was expecting sleep). If I had not had an alcohol drink before, I would have driven home. The room had 2 threadbare patches within carpet. Dirt/fluff around the skirting board and under the bed. Bed linen was clean. Did not stop for breakfast. This ruined our weekend, total lack of care/professionalism.

Stayed here for 2 nights and well on a positive note most of the staff were lovely but I imagine that it’s pretty tough keeping cheerful when you know how dated the place is and how disappointed people must be when they enter their rooms. My room...1 curtain hanging off, telly tiny and appeared to have turned its self on whilst I was asleep then turned itself off and wouldn’t work. Apart from the bed which was clean and firm but ok everything else looked or felt a bit grubby. Sadly I won’t be back with a little love and a refresh it could be lovely as driving into the grounds it raises the hopes even if it is only momentary.

When I walked into the room the smell was terrible it was the sort of smell you get when something has never been cleaned properly ever! However the sheets were clean , so I decided to dump my bag and grab a beer , as I walked past reception there were at least 50 pensioners who had checked in but their room cards had failed to work, when I arrived at the bar with my colleague there were some really Freindly people who asked what cars we were driving !? I said BMW my colleague said Audi, we were told to park the vehicles in the service yard as the wheels will disappear if we didn't , I only stayed I night , the staff were great the place is the worst hotel I've stayed in for the last 5 years & I could go on ......! Just got back a few days ago from a very pleasant trip with friends. First time we have been on a coach trip with National coach holidays and have already booked for another in the Scottish highlands and Lochs. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Royal Court as our stay was classed as a mystery hotel. The location and first impression of the hotel as we arrived was very impressive. We had requested ground floor rooms and was delighted this had been allocated to us. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious, it was in need of some TLC but spotlessly clean and Comfortable. Tea and coffee facilities available and clean white towels replenished daily. The breakfasts and evening meals were lovely with buffet style arrangements and my husband had 3 courses every evening which is unheard of normally, so the food spoke for itself. The only downside to dining facilities was the arrangements for mealtimes as the restaurant is not big enough to cope with coach parties of more than one at a time plus individual guests. If they extended into the adjacent bar/lounge which was in the process of being decorated, may solve the chaos. The staff seemed thin on the ground or inexperienced or maybe the restaurant/bar manager needs to be more organised, before you could say it was a nice dining experience. There are a further two bar/lounge areas but wouldn't say they were inviting or comfortable unless they are the next rooms to be refurbished. I was disappointed no evening entertainment but I suppose you can't have everything. On the whole couldn't fault the hotel or the trip, they just need to get the dinning facilities organised and a little more refurbishment carried out and I would say it could be a little gem of hotel just outside Coventry city.

In all fairness we booked a cheap rate via booking.com and we could not expect much but still we were amazed by the poor quality. Staff was friendly but this hotel needs a deepclean and soft refurbishment. Eye for detail would very much help the hotel in the meantime. There is nothing wrong with vacuüm cleaning the public toilet once in a while (just one example). I believe with the price we were paying the hotel could never survive so start to give this hotel some Tender Love and Care and increase rates would be my advice.
