Visited as a family for an evening meal with a young child. Staff were really friendly and food was lovely. Surprised to see so many options on the kids menu which were really well priced which was great. Our food was served quickly and was very nice, steaks cooked just how we asked for. Overall a friendly atmosphere and we will return. Spotted a children’s play area outside which we will definitely take advantage of in the future (weather permitting!)

Great family pub kids love it as they have a tower with a rope bridge and things that they have no end of fun on. They also love the food as I do that kelly makes which is always delicious and when kelly is on the bar she's always the life and soul of the pub.

Went to the speedquiz night .enjoyed it great atmosphere had mix up with food but very quickly sorted out staff was great highly reccomend been loads of times love it

The Royal Charter is a lovely, friendly pub to pop in and have a drink while the children play. They have a lovely garden/ play area with ample seating. Since its recent takeover the place is so much cleaner, the staff are super nice and you definitely get service with a smile. Such a welcoming atmosphere.

Fab food, lovely service. Food was really nice. We ate the kebab and it was really tasty. The kids loved it too & because the weather was nice they could play outside on the play park. Will defo come again

Visited in 2019 and found it to not be great but since the pandemic they've turned it around. Nice play area for the kids, clean and food is pretty good! Staff are always friendly too

I went to the Royal Charter for a meal. The mixed grill was excellent. The room was covid safe and the service was that great mix of efficiency and friendliness.

I visited The Royal Charter with my partner and mum, and my younger sister. The interiors of The Royal Charter are very nice and cosy, and the outdoor seating area is very comfortable with a very good children’s play area. While the service was a little bit slow, this is understandable due to the pandemic and the lack of outdoor staff. The food and general service itself was very nice and enjoyable - will definitely be visiting again!

Was visiting some family in the area and popped in for a drink, very clean inside, great value food and drinks and felt very comfortable with the sanitiser available and the constant watch from staff on masks, staff were incredible and very welcoming would definitely visit again if in the area!

The staff are doing amazing in these very difficult times, they are run off there feet trying there hardest, Food is good but can't wait for the full menu to return, the marquee in the garden is a welcomed addition along with the outside tv and extra seating. Decided to take the family out for tea. All covid safe our drinks order was taken within a few minutes of sitting down. Food was delicious and great value for money. The young lady who served us was very polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Me and my mum had a nice afternoon meal hear on the lunch club menu it was 5 pound for dinner and a pudding a lovely meal . We really enjoyed it . My mum a pensioner and was just enough food for her with out her having to waste it . Bar staff lady who was on was lovely also very pleasant and welcoming

The food was cheap and tasty enough. The staff were pleasant. Unfortunately the food took over an hour to arrive on a reasonably steady Sunday lunch time.

8 of us went of a family meal here yesterday and I can quite honestly say it was the worst place I have ever eaten at in Hull. It is advertised as a “family friendly pub” it certainly isn’t. The target market is clearly just drinkers. The place is extremely dirty (tables needing washing, glasses needed collecting, floor needed hoovering, handles and banisters dirty - needs a good wash down) Poor service from very young bar staff. Food was poor quality. No access to dining area for wheelchair user/pram. Stay well clear.

We held our mums wake here on the 28th February 2019. It was only a small affair but the effort that the staff put in for us was outstanding. The buffet was amazing and plenty of it! Nothing was too much trouble. I cannot thank the staff enough for their kindness shown at what was a difficult time.They helped my sister and myself and all of our families to celebrate the life of our mum in the best possible way. She would have loved it! Many many thanks to the royal charter. Superstars all of you.

Held my mother in laws funeral wake here 14th February. Nice friendly staff who attended to our needs. They gave us our own private place in the main part of the pub which was a nice touch,The food quantity and quality was very good. Would recommend this as a good, clean,establishment to hold this type of event.

Went as a group of 9 for the christmas fare menu, Sevice was prompt and very friendly and efficient,food was tasty and excellent value.No complaints at all,well worth a visit.

We fancied a change of scenery form our usual places to eat out and thought we'd try The Royal Charter. The menu is typical pub grub with a kids menu. The prices are a little cheaper than other places that offer a similar menu so was a little wary of why. We ordered 4 main meals and a drink each which cost just under £30. The meals were delivered without too much waiting and were very nice. The portion sizes were good, not massive and over facing leaving you eating for eatings but a good healthy portion.

Had my daughters christening here and must say Mel and Callie who I dealt with did a fantastic Job! The room was decorated lovely and my guests even commented how lovely they had made it! I can’t thank them enough for making our day special

Went in on new years day to meet friends to find out that they where closing at 6pm I was expecting an early closing time but this was ridiculous I asked to see the land lady but was told she wouldn't come down from upstairs where she lives, I felt so sorry for the bar staff as it was them that was having to put up with the anger of many people turning up only to be turned away again

Had a meal that was very good. Price very good. Service was good. Have now been to this pub a few times and the standard is always the same. Staff are very good. Beer and wine prices very reasonable. Would recommend this place to both family and friends.

Fab pub. Full of "proper locals". Great food great staff and an open and friendly atmosphere. Ample tv's for any sports fans and some great offers on shots 5 for £10 made for a great night. Highly recommended .

I had my son's 14th birthday party here on the 1st of the month even though it was busy it was a good night by all!! The staff were very Pleasant and attentive they took all the stress away by decorating the room and Melanie did what my son would call a banging buffet very happy boy one very happy mother thanks again and see you soon

Held my daughter's birthday party here. The whole experience was stress free. Melanie and the staff ensuref the area was decorated beautiful. The food was a mixture of cold and hot easy party food. The guests commented on how delicious it was and I was amazed how much food there was for the price. A fantastic time had by all. Thank you.

Turned up here just after 8pm for what must of being a very busy day after a sun drenched day.There where a lot of glasses still outside on tables and to the outside world it looked very messy,so... New landlady really looks after you and also the staff We come in here a lot but it's the best it's been now for about 18mth seems like she really wants this to work so good luck and keep on with the improvements you've made which hopefully will start and be a great local again

This is a family friendly pub dose some good food it's is simple pub food but cooked good they have beer gardens and and a big play area for the kids it's a lovely family pub with nice friendly staff and good quick service we had a good meal which was simple but really nice I would advise giving this place a try

Booked our Christmas fayre As previously this years and didn't disappoint,table was lovely displayed and well presented we arrived slightly late and wasn't a problem. Our food was tasty and looked good,we ordered various from the fayre menu and was perfect,all subsequent meals was served perfect and fabulous.I would certainly recommend this pub to anyone staff and food was excellent And a massive thanks to the stafff

Used this pub alot over the years. Not the best it's been. Burgers used to be lovely. It's nice for a snack and pint but for a family meal. I would not bother. Friendly staff though

I just gave this a 1 star but changed it to a 2 star as the staff are pretty friendly. The place was dead when we arrived so there is no excuse really for poor food. I was hungry so ordered the mix grill. I took the photo after eating part of the sausage. It was like a game of find the meat. Such a poor example of a mixed grill. No lamb chop no pork chop 1 sausage and one egg. The small piece of chicken was burnt and hard. If it is the cost that makes this poor then it should be an extra £4 on the menu. I ordered a dessert to be told after 10 minutes there is non left so I picked an alternative. 10 minutes passed and I was told they forgot to take the cheese cake out the freezer so I had to pick a third time. I opted for my money back. The problem is in my opinion that they don't focus or care about the food and there is no recognised chef in place. I do normally travel across the town to eat and it's a real shame that I can't enjoy food on my doorstep. Anyway sorry for the poor review as initially I decided not to make the review but as you have Trip Adviser cards on the bar I suppose you encourage reviews.

i went in for a stack &amp; ale pie with chips pea's &amp; grave first thing the pie was rank no taste of ale then meet well their was little. mostly Giselle now the chips was frozen one's eatable with the grave and the pea's was OK then learned their was not actually stake &amp; ale pie's was a mix up on a delivery if so why sell it as stake &amp; ale .. false advertising will not be eating their again

We went in on a Wednesday for the beer and burger night and was impressed when the food came out the presentation was fantastic with the quality and taste to match.We look forward to returning in the very near future to try more of the food from the menu and would recommend it to anybody.

We are looking at moving to this area so thought we would try this place. I've had the odd pint in here but have never eaten. What shocked me the most is the fact that a young girl (aged 6 or 7) bought over our cutlery and sauces. The food was average and tasted like it had been heavily microwaved. Don't think we will be returning.

Amazing waitresses who are really polite and also pour a good pint! Good food and good company, Royal Charter also has a nice family feel to it, and later on in the night "hoofing" banter. I would highly recommend to anyone!

Made a visit with friends. The pub looks much better after a make over but the toilets are still awful. Not been updated since the pub opened!The food was quite poor. Small portions for an adult. There is no atmosphere and it's dead on a weekend.

The worst food I've ever had, in any commercial premises anywhere. Totally inedible. Steak wasn't able to be cut and would have bounced if dropped and chips had no taste at all. My veggie choice was so bland I gave up in it. The worst thing is that it is very near to where we live so would be our regular haunt but we bypass it nine times out of ten. The beer is also rubbish, a very limited choice with no good beers or wines and beers are not kept well. If only someone could open a good pub with home cooked food they would make a fortune in East Hull!

Went to the Royal charter for a meal as a change. The mixed grill was cooked just as I liked it. It was served relatively quickly by staff that knew what they were doing. I'll definitely be going back

having been to the Royal Charter about 6 times now we have found the food very reasonable and nicely presented. The only thing we have found that spoilt our visit there was we were outside having a drink after our food, near were the children play, they were adults whom we have seen in the pub each time we have visited swearing loudly around children, which we found not very nice.

Since the new landlady Sammie and her partner Neil and their family has taken over what a fantastic change the pub it now has a very welcoming atmosphere and family friendly ,she has totally turned it around it around in a matter of weeks the pub is now clean inside and out and what a difference this makes the food is now tasty and piping hot .The staff are lovely and are very friendly and helpful don't take any notice of other review's ,I have been using this pub for the last 14 years and this by far one of the best changes it is now great to come to a pub that is welcoming, clean ,friendly and who like children this has been a long time coming .

We came here late afternoon although it was very quiet its nice place staff are friendly and polite and pub seems clean enough we ordered food and drinks was not waiting long for food.the food was lovely and you get plenty I had chicken korma with chips and rice this was tasty and plenty others had burritos chicken with regga sauce we all enjoyed our food and had a nice afternoon.

went on 4th august 2015 , the place is filthy needs a complete re-vamp, the beer is vile and tasteless, the food is horrible, I order steak medium rare came cremated, small portions, soggy chips, what more is there to say. will never go back there ever!!

Having recently read good reviews about this place I thought me and my family would try it for a birthday celebration. Arrived around 5pm on a Saturday and a few people were eating, overheard someone complaining already. Not a good start! The bar staff who served us were friendly and helpful although the drinks I paid for seemed overpriced for the half pint glasses we were given? Food arrived in good time, waitress was polite and friendly. One meal did not come out at the same time as the rest of our tables which was pretty annoying as the 5 year old wasn't happy! After making several complaints about various things wrong with our order the waitress called over the manager to speak to us. The manager was rude towards us and as we tried to explain the problems with our meal she talked over us, cut in and never listened. She tried to tell us that all the food came the same, which I don't believe all food comes out burnt!? No effort was made to resolve the problem which resulted in us leaving nearly all of our paid for food untouched! Deciding to order more drinks I overheard the same rude manager talking to one of her bar staff about another member of staff with some very interesting language, considering this is supposed to be a family pub? Sat close to the kitchen it wasn't long before we heard someone shouting which sounded, again, like the manager who had earlier spoken to us and again, using interesting language towards staff/chef?? Would not recommend this pub simply because of the owner and will not be returning.

Great pub grub, nothing fancy but it's cheap and tasty and you get what you pay for. Go all the time with family and friends as it's our local. Family friendly as there is a big kids play area and climbing frame.

After reading reviews and seeing 1 say 'horrible' I couldn't help but want to write how lovely our visit was! We ordered food for 8 of us including some children, and have to say the staff were fantastic! All really friendly and pleasant. The eating area and facilities were spotless and outdoor area for the kids was a godsend!! Our food was delicious! Really generous portion sizes,Kids meals were fantastic value for money! I had the cowboy burger and it was gorgeous! Friend had steak and it was cooked to perfection. Well above the normal 'pub grub' standard from in that area and beyond. Really enjoyed out visit and will definitely be visiting again. We will defo recommend this pub to friends and family!

Been waiting to try this place because id seen good things online only when we went the food was extremely burnt, salad looked off and the service was ridiculous we were the only diners there and they messed up our order by not telling us what wasn't available until they attempted to serve it, won't be coming here again.

Went as a party of 14. Food was brilliant value, and the quality was over and above normal pub grub. The food came out staggered which bugged me a bit, however there were 14 of us. The waitresses were polite and friendly. The portions were big.

Just been for lunch with my son. Had a very warm welcome even though it was a little busy due to what looked like a funeral wake. Food was lovely and didn't have to wait too long for it either. We've been visiting the Royal Charter for Tea for some years now, it's had its ups and downs, but has improved loads lately, the staff and Manager are always polite and helpful. Visited this evening once again and had a lovely meal.

Visit on a Sunday night from a great quiz from resident quizmaster Woody, Bingo, raffle and Play Your Cards Right. Good beer and a fantastic evenings entertainment -thoroughly recommended

We visit here most Thursdays as they have a good quiz night on as well. It is steak night and for under £7.50 you can have a rump steak and a drink(wine or beer). Great value. The portion are great and the food is always of a very good standard. We will be back next week!

Had a cooked breakfast mid day on one occasion and it was brill - went back and sold it to a pal and had it early evening one night-fab quality and quantity. Would recommend.

Went a meal just after 12 the pub wasn't that busy. Me and my mum ordered separately only a couple of minutes apart the service at the bar was slow. We then waited 50 minutes for our food my mum order came first the chips and peas were cold and the gravy was quite thick. By the time my order came my mum and dad had finished the meal and was waiting on me well I order the cajan chicken and was not impressed the chicken was only lightly covered in spices and tasted like rubber. No one came over to see if the meal was okay so no one to complain to overall I will not be going to this place again

Went out for sunday dinner with the family waited over an hour for the starters to arrive!! I chased this up with the bar staff and they said that they are busy ?? only 4 other family in the lounge!! A further 30minutes for the main meal to arrive by this time we were getting passed this meal, Quailty of the food not the best and the presention was also poor!! Reseanable price but what do you expect at a public house.

Went last night as a party of 10, our order was taken promptly by friendly staff and served up all at the same time after about a half hour, piping hot! A range of burgers had been ordered by the majority of our party, thumbs up from everyone. I ordered a meal off the specials board, surf and turf, the steak was cooked perfectly - medium/rare and the scampi hot and crisp with chips and peas the portion size was good. Will definitely be going back :)

Went on Saturday as a weekend treat but we were left disappointed. We had popped in the weekend before for quick drink to find that the pub had been spruced up so we decided to return. The menu looked good and keenly priced; now I would say 'cheap' and for obvious reasons. The food is possibly the worst I have paid money for.I ordered the mixed grill and my better half went for sausages &amp; mash. The warning bells rang when the food arrived no more than 10 min after I returned from the bar to place the order. The mixed grill looked a bit grim and the sausages and mash looked dry and over cooked. That was the best bit! My plate was swimming in grease and that was all I could taste. The sausages were appalling; deep fried tubes of tasteless cereal. The small pieces of gammon and steak (and free gristle) were hidden under the greasy fried egg and tasted of nothing but grease. The chips had been over fried so that the potato has disappeared to be replaced by yes, more fat.My wife said her meal waste tasteless and she had the misfortune of having more of those dreadful sausages than me. Her mash was dry and virtually a solid mass that the gravy could not help with. The vegetables were so over cooked that everything on the plate tasted the same. Suffice to say that the salt and pepper pots took a severe battering in our attempt to get some flavour in our food and to mask the taste of grease in mine.To top that my pint of Hobgoblin was off and half of the pub was cordoned off for a party so we're were crammed into a corner next to a draughty door opposite the kitchen.So you can guess that we will not be going back which is a great pity because the pub could do a roaring trade if they employed someone who could cook!!!

my wife and i visited this pub today after it was recommended by a friend.i had a mixed grill and the wife had an 8oz rump steak.the barmaid was very friendly and when i asked if we could have a jacket potato instead of chips with the rump steak she said it was no problem.our meals came at the same time after about 20 minutes.the steak was cooked to perfection as was my mixed grill and it was all piping hot.for the prices they charge the portions were large and of excellent quality.we will definitely be visiting again and will recommend it to all our friends.don't take any notice of the bad reviews and go and try it for yourself.

Ate with family &amp; friends and a couple of us ordered steaks. Mine should have been a medium/rare rump steak, which, when delivered 45 minutes later, came practically well done and was as thin as a burger. My friends was a decent size, but was also overcooked. Had we not been starving by this time, we would have sent them back. My daughters wedge shaped chips were burnt to a cinder. How any cook (I choose not to use the term 'chef') can send out food like this is beyond me. No-one bothered to ask how our meal was, even when clearing the tables. Clearly not interested! The food we ordered was not complicated, so should not have been so poor. Overall, not a good experience and I won't be returning - except only for a drink. On the plus side, the ambiance is good, with a nice clean bright feel and a lovely garden if the weather is fine.

Me and my wife went to the royal charter for a Sunday lunch was most disappointed the portions we got would not have satisfied a child never mind two large adults will defiantly go elsewhere for Sunday lunch

after a minor refurbishment this pub is a lot brighter inside,the new manager Liam has injected some life back into to place,with acts and other types of entertainment.there is also an over 55 club on a monday lunch time.The food is also very good value and well presented well worth a visit

I popped in to this pub for a meal following it re-opening after a refurb. I'm glad I did. The food was excellent value for money, cheaper than a lot of other pubs from Marstons but still with the quality you expect. The drink selection was excellent (although I was driving) and The kids menu was fun and healthy, but offering the children choices as to how they want their meal made up. The service was great and the new open plan layout of the pub helped provide a nice and relaxed atmosphere.Well woprth a visit.

This pub is still open despite paper saying it's shut.Pub serves meals daily 12 - 9pm Monday to Saturday &amp; 12 -8pm on Sunday.Friendly staff and willing to help.Choice of drinks and meals.The pub has a pool &amp; darts team.Plenty of parking facilities &amp; also play area for the kids.Kitchen staff are really good as are willing to accommodate different dietary needs.

royal charter is a good pub it has very good staff and the entertainment is very good as well and the food is good and the pub has a pool table and a darts board if you are going as a family it has a play park there and they have bands on there a few times a month and they have a poll team and darts team the range of food, drinks is good so you can have a choice of what you want to drink and eat also it has big TV’s so you can watch good quality TV there and they also sell darts accessories I would recommend this anyone.
