Ponto Lounge in Kingston upon Hull, City of

Do not order food on the app it declined my order because they had ran out of chicken but took the money out of my bank still and just said oh well it will go back in eventually - I have been waiting four days up to now and it’s still pending in my account Iesson learnt - yes decline the order if you don’t have the food but don’t take the money still 😡

Went on a Wednesday morning for coffee; our first visit to Ponto. We ordered a latte and a hot chocolate. The latte was ok, but the hot chocolate was just warm milk! There was hardly any chocolate in at all; it was a very white colour and tasteless. Took it back to the counter and all they did was add some chocolate syrup. Syrup! Is that what they make hot chocolate with?? Actually made it taste worse. Left it. Didn’t want to complain again. Won’t be back.

Poor service. Menu advises people with allergies to order at the bar. I stood at the bar for 10 minutes and five staff ignored me. Not even an acknowledgement. I had to ask if I needed to order there. Food took more than 30 minutes to arrive. I'd asked for cheese on burger. No cheese. Got 4 tiny chicken wings for 4.75. No one approaches your table after food is brought so had to go to the bar to ask. A guy came to 'get cheese' for me. He assured me it would be done properly and melted. It came back 90 seconds later with two slices of processed cheese, unmelted and the whole thing cold. Terrible. The restaurant wasn't even busy.

Absolute rip-off Over £6 for a breakfast muffin. One sausage, a snotty egg and a slice of plastic cheese Bacon was an extra £2 Beware of unexpected add-ons at the till, as this really inflates the advertised menu price

Visited on the 23rd of March, coffee and hot chocolate were great. my gf decided she wanted a bowl of fries and opted for the garlic and parmesan fries. They came in a small finger bowl with probably 15 fries in there, which for over £4 is pretty appalling. To top it off, there was no hint of garlic or parmesan. Meaning she has essentially bought 15 plain fries for over £4. Not the best.

Have been in afew times now , an love the place, its very relaxing an food and drinks are great, i just wish they would do table service , as on the continent, it would make such a difference , i did ask a member of staff today if they did an was told you have to go to the bar ,

Mothers Day breakfast. We visited today as a group of 6 was very surprised at the spacious area with plenty of tables. Breakfast was top notch and couldn't fault the service. Easy to use table App for ease of ordering and plenty of choice. 5 stars all the way.

Visited here today with Mum as an early Mother’s Day with Mum. The members of staff as always are so polite and kind and easy to talk to. I struck up a conversation with one of the members of staff about their range of cakes. They catered very well for Mum and I. I had the Lamb Curry and it is genuinely one of the best curries I’ve ever had each mouthful was a treat for my tastebuds. I could’ve had a second helping, the pieces of Lamb just melt in your mouth. I washed this down with the Watermelon Iced Tea which has a lovely taste and just right in sweetness. I’ve never had a bad experience once at this restaurant. I go so far as to say that I think this is one of the best restaurants in Hull. Well done to members of staff at Pontos for their great service and equally as tasty food. I will be back for sure for the Lamb Curry alone. I recommend this restaurant to anybody.

We love the 30's Brasserie style decor with its art deco wallpaper and warm lighting. This creates a relaxing atmosphere. Our food was good and the service was quick. However the evening was marred a bit by the volume of the music. It was difficult making yourself heard without shouting. A waiter did reduce the volume but it was still uncomfortably loud. Also the style of music didn't seem to match the venue or the clientele. A lot of thought has gone into this place and it occupies a good central location but more attention needs to be given to the soundscape.

Came back after previous experience. Only gone downhill from before. 7 pm and only 12 customers between two floors. Music was extremely loud again with old 70s music for guests and kitchen staff blasting heavy metal (can’t blame them with the poor music selection customers were subjected to). Wait staff allowed a couple to toss a ball with their dog and said nothing when it bounced on clean table. Food was good though.

Visited on a Sunday with a larger group. We all commented on how helpful and accommodating the staff were. Food was scrumptious as always. We sat upstairs (first time) and wasn't disappointed.

Lovely atmospheric restaurant in the centre of Hull, great vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Delicious food and drinks, large variety of meals. Menu changes often so there's always something new to try.

Visited for the first time tonight with family. What a lovely space. It was nice to not have tables literally on top of each other so you have no privacy. Food was really lovely, good portions and tasty, couldn’t complain about any of it and the drinks were nice and reasonably priced. There is a lot to choose from so something for everyone. However on the downside the service was appalling. We had booked and when arriving they just pointed and said ‘that’s your table’. No niceties or anything. No one explained it was QR or go to the bar to order nor does it mention it on the menu. I don’t have an issue with QR ordering when I know that’s what I’m meant to do. Also didn’t like having to pay and tip before getting the food and no option to leave the tab open and pay at the end if ordering more drinks or desserts. A few tweaks it could be a really amazing place.

Visited here for the first time for an evening meal as the menu appears to be varied with something for everyone. A little surprised with the ordering system as I thought the venue wants to be viewed as a restaurant rather than a bar. My wife ordered a chicken dish whilst I settled for 3 tapas dishes. The food was all very tasty, however the chicken main was predominantly potato and sauce with very little chicken. My tapas were all really tasty but they were very small portions. The gents didn't appear to have been checked for several hours and was lacking necessary items. On the plus side it was very affordable, and despite some misgivings we will probably revisit and give the Ponto Lounge a second chance

Really impressed with Ponto lounge, it was my first visit to catch up with a friend and we were both impressed with the level of service we received. I am coeliac and have to follow a gluten free diet and was surprised at the selection of meals on offer. My friend is vegan and there was a great selection for her too. My order was taken by the manager who was lovely and ensured that special instructions were given to the kitchen to ensure no cross contamination occurred. Our meals arrived well presented and mine had the gluten free markings which was a great sign. Our meals were tasty well prepared and the staff were excellent. I would recommend Ponto Lounge especially if you’re following a special diet as they were on the ball. Overall a great experience and I will definitely visit again

Came for some food and was really good!

Visited for tea with my daughter before our visit to the theatre. This was a birthday treat for myself and I’d been looking forward to taking my 7 year old daughter for tea. The waitress was initially quite friendly but after asking her about a change to my food I wanted she got quite huffy and walked off mid conversation. I understand hospitality at Christmas can be very stressful however it was disappointing. Also when asking for a tap water for my daughter the waitress didn’t respond, walked off, got her some water, put it down and left without a single other word exchanged. Food was fine. But service felt lacking on this occasion.

We booked our family ladies annual Christmas meal here this year and what a disappointment. We had specifically asked to be seated upstairs on our booking but were seated downstairs. Not a great deal. We wanted some bottles of wine but despite having a tab for our meals were told to go to the bar/use the app. Again not a big deal. Despite pre ordering our meals we still waited 45mins for our starters to arrive. We all ordered the 2 course meal with half of us having starters and half desserts. When the bill arrived the half who ordered desserts had been charged for the 3 course menu despite not having a starter. Staff were quite rude about it and we were told the desserts were not included in the 2 course option but this was not mentioned during our booking which was done by email. Manager not very helpful and bordered on been quite rude. After agreeing to pay but making it clear we wouldn’t be returning he then agreed to charge us all just for the 2 courses we had. Food wasn’t that great. I had the belly pork which was tasteless. 2 of us also visited for lunch during the week before to check the place out and had the Phillycheese steak ciabattas. These were not very nice either. It’s a lovely place inside and the place could be great. Just needs a new chef and replace the majority of staff that obviously were not happy to be there. Just asking for cutlery as we didn’t have enough and a bit of mayo were met with a scowl. We felt very unwelcome and an inconvenience. Needless to say we won’t be visiting again, nor recommending it to anyone.

Came here for dinner after my shift at work. Can I just say it was amazing I had the steak fritter and chip and I couldn't stop eating it. It was so tender and flavorful. It was quite busy but had a amazing atmosphere and the staffseem knowable about their drink and gave excellent customer service. The food was very quick for how busy it was. I definitely found a new place I definitely will return to.

Ate here visiting from Sweden with my partner. Honestly one of the most delicious chicken sandwiches I've eaten in sometime, and the staff had a great vibe. Coming back later for a milkshake!

Short staffed on the Sunday so queues waiting to be seated and no one around (2 busy on the bar/coffee machine) but staff were friendly and helpful. Food hit the spot and this is definitely the place for an enjoyable breakfast (options for all tastes)...

Didn't let to use toilet, because have drinks delivery and all the way to toilet was blocked with boxes.

Solo diner. Meze / tapas was banging. Every dish was flavoursome, fusion of classic tapas and home made. Brisket chilli is something I'm going to try to make at home. Price is ridiculously affordable, not sure how it's done to be fair. Staff are attentive and chatty. Was a really good dining experience for me...ps I don't write reviews so it must of been good.

Best Cafe on town for relaxing time

Dit was de verrassing van de week. Aam buitenkant lijkt het traditioneel restaurant maar van binnen mondiaal en sfeervol. Op tapas Tuesday is het volop genieten van tapas en gratis drankje. Bestellen en betalen gaat wat onpersoonlijk via QR code maar personeel dat eten komt brengen is zeer service gericht en komt ook vragen of alles naar wens is. De tapas zijn divers en goed gekruid. Ook genoeg keuze aan bijgerechten.

Tried to three (or more like five) point turn from inside a disabled bay outside this place, whilst a guy who worked there was having a smoke break. The two-part comedy routine that ensued from my well-handled(?) tragedy, and his well-mimed observation based charades brightened my day, and made very light work of an otherwise quite stressful time - and if anyone from head office is reading this, give him a raise! Also been in on several occasions - food is good, service is speedy, and prices are a little expensive - but if it pays the server wages, it’s worth it.

Paid £15 for a burger that came with a tiny 'cup' of fries and a childs portion of salad. Table service was good until I politely asked a girl to take away our empty plates as we had finished eating some time ago. She didn't look happy about this and proceeded to snatch them from our hands as we handed them to her. Our puddings took nearly 30 mins to arrive too. Not totally disastrous but the portions need attention as people like value for money and in my opinion, I didn't get that tonight as our bill was around £78 for 2 adults and 1 child. We left kind of hungry even after puddings..

Came for lunch after seeing a review video online. We were not disappointed, the food,and service were perfect. We will return many times I think.

Stylish yet comfortable and relaxed atmosphere in the heart of the city centre. Service is superb and the food is excellent yet sensibly priced. The menu could do to be spiced up every now and again. After 20+ visits here it's getting a tad samey. Good beers on tap and nice wines although a tad overpriced. Nice staff. They do a supeb all day breakfast that rivals Hull's best.

Brill place will be returning great food and great service

What a fabulous find! We were in the city for an event at the arena, and didn't think ahead to book a table for food beforehand. Happened upon Ponto Lounge and they managed to squeeze us in despite them being super busy. Ordered a lamb flatbread and a salad - both were really delicious. The sweet potato fries were some of the best we've tasted. I had one of the non-alcoholic cocktails and it was absolutely lovely - I'd love to come back and try some more of the drinks menu, but I'll definitely be back again for another of the flatbreads! The staff were great, and even though it was obviously busy, they were courteous and attentive. The decor is fab too! Felt very lucky that a couple of the chain restaurants we had tried before this one were full, because without those setbacks, we wouldn't have found this absolute gem!

Recently visited Ponto on Sunday around 13:30pm. Was welcomed by a very pretty restaurant and a polite server. However after asking how many were in our party did not guide us to an available table, just told us to look and find somewhere! Asked another server if we were able to sit upstairs. Was very quiet and slightly abrupt however advised we could. Decided to sit upstairs, had a very pleasant view over the square. You can order through QR codes or go up to the bar and order. We ordered through the QR. Has a very large and varied menu, appreciated the choice however felt unsure what the style of the food actually was! Ordered a pink lemonade and a banoffee milkshake for drinks. Both delicious, not too sweet and very reasonable price. For food we got the tapas offer. Opted for arancini, chicken wings and the mini pulled brisket chilli. We also got a pot of macaroni cheese on the side. All of the food was delicious, the mac n cheese was creamy, arancini had an excellent texture and the chilli had a nice mild heat. The chicken wings were okay but a bit tough. I would say the food is reasonably priced if leaning to slightly overpriced for the actual portion size. Unfortunately no server came to check up on us and how the food was. No one saw us out either. Overall would say had a mostly positive experience, do feel the servers could help to really make the lounge feel more like an experience rather than just a lunch stop. However the food was delicious and the restaurant is decorated beautifully.

Great food but tiny portions , £18 for 3 hot drinks and 3 portions of chips that are not even a cup full (and a small cup at that!). Great service and staff, Archie in particular was stellar, but wouldn't recommend it if you want a filling meal.

Arrived just after 2pm, few customers. Hubby went to the bar to order, staff just floating past him, no acknowledgement. Eventually served. My tea cup had jam on it. The food took an age. My lounge eggs were hard and almost cold. No-one asked if the food was OK, nor did they acknowledge our disgruntled departure.

Arrived in Hull wanting a full breakfast for me & my partner noticed the door was open at this cafe bar walked inside 8.55am to be told by staff sitting around talking we don’t open until 9am Wow !!! No wonder businesses do not survive ! I am a store manager myself and would never want a customer to walk away disappointed 😡

While the service absolutely was great here, the staff couldn't do more, the food is a little on the mixed side. Ordered some of the various tapas style items and while there was some good there, there was a fair few items that fell a little flat. In addition it also feels like the cafe itself has seen some better days, while there's some great artwork and design, it does come off as a little grubby round the edges.

Really cracking vegan breakfast options, and attentive service. The server told us politely that the wait would be around 40 mins because it was peak lunch time, but realistically it was only around 20. Will be back again

We visited for breakfast and as you walk in there is a sign which says 'wait here to be seated ' which we did for quite some time. A young lady approached looking miserable, no greeting, no smile. I asked for a table she just said "yeah sit anywhere". We order and when our drinks arrived my cup was dirty and worn so I approached the waitress at the service hatch to ask for a clean cup she abruptly told me to give her a minute which actually turned out to be about 10mins. The breakfast was delicious and we all really enjoyed it. The decor and music was great .It's just a shame about the customer service from the waitress. She did perk up a little and asked if everything was ok(perhaps she realised by the look on my face she was been narky)When we left she did manage to say goodbye!

Great place for lunch on a Saturday. Not too busy, quick service and great food. Ordering was easy through a QR code, or also available at the bar. Really good food selection including a separate vegan and gluten free menu. I'd definitely return based on this experience!

Hi. Although the staff were polite and attentive. the fact that my main meal ( spaghetti ) was barely warm when presented was unacceptable. A near 20 minute wait for a replacement made for a very poor experience.

Amazing service, the cocktails were to die for and brilliant for the price. Alfie’s peach colada was by far the best I had my entire time there.

A really nice, colourful place which serves many vegetarian options and all are tasty! I have zero complaints, and that is something I rarely say :D I don't spend that much time in town, but I always try to come back and just enjoy the snacks and meals in Ponto if I have the time for cooked meals. Lovely staff!

Wonderful place, quirky but not ridiculous. Very interesting menu, good food, friendly atmosphere, delightful staff. Plenty of room for my wheelchair, friendly for dogs. Heaven!
