The Royal Cafe in Dumfries & Galloway

Whilst I was in Stranraer on Tuesday morning I decided to have breakfast I was heading to the bank and passed the royal cafe and thought I'd have a look within minutes a chap appeared and asked if I was going to order so I opted for breakfast never thought how it was going to to be but 2 soft squidgy sausages 3bits of bacon soggy tattie scone s hash brown beans low quality and some mushrooms no haggis or black pudding I ate it and went to pay omg at least dick Turpin wore a mask £18 pound never in my life have I paid that for a breakfast definitely will never set foot in here again

A little gem in Stranraer! Nestled beside Peacocks it is a must to visit. Always stop for a coffee and a slice of millionaires shortbread when visiting family. Great menu, all day breakfast, range of cake and decent coffee.

Very quick service. Lovely welcoming from the waitress. Good spot and not too expensive either. Wasn’t a big fan of the chips but everything else was great

After leaving a couple of restaurants in Stranraer due to pathetic service we found this little gem of a cafe. The owners were very friendly and actually wanted to serve us. We were a party of six and all the food we had was excellent. Give it a try.👏👏

Town Centre location. Free parking 5 mins walk. Comfortable seating. Excellent choice of menu. Reasonable prices.

Wide selection of meals, snacks & puddings, I went for the liver, onions, mash & peas, followed by apple pie & custard, with a cup of tea to top it off, and was not disappointed. Very friendly waitress provided great service, and a good few laughs. Everything was very clean & well presented.

The food was good quality and value, the manager/owner was very friendly and helpful, it was just what we needed after a busy day.

Said no everything I looked at was open on Sunday. After eventually finding, it was closed. Won't be back again any time.

Great food, have been many times and will keep going. Friendly, welcoming staff and not too noisy or busy but depends when you go. Great menu with a lot to choose from, same with the sweets at the counter.

Had a nice Scottish breakfast here served by a friendly bloke. Good value and was just what we needed before our walk back to Portpatrick.

Wet and windy weather meant we planned a road trip in this week that co-incided with lock down. We stopped in Stranrae and enjoyed a great dog walk through the park along the front. Then found out the first two dog friendly restaurants we tried weren’t able to feed us as they didn’t have the space in COVID-19 for dog friendly dining. Step in the Royal cafe which has kept such an area. Hot filling food and friendly service set us up for a fantastic drive to the Mull of Galloway, Thankyou!

Good menu and prices. Staff are polite and friendly. Go here a lot and take my grandsons here too. Chips are lovely and they also have lovely cakes and scones. Pet friendly.

My family and I often come here. Menu fantastic , prices fantastic , service brilliant , food lovely but most of all the owner and staff always make us feel welcome which to me is as important as the generous portions of beautiful freshly cooked food. Highly recommended

Sunday morning breakfast here, it was delicious! I had the large breakfast which fed my large appetite perfectly. Lots of breakfast options to choose from. Owner and staff were just lovely. Will definitely be back!

Anytime I’m down in Stranraer, I visit the Royal Cafe with friends and each time the food is of excellent quality. I highly recommend the Chicken Maryland. The chicken breast is an excellent size and succulent throughout. Veli makes you feel welcome and nothing is too much bother for him and his friendly staff. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Went in for dinner and had the chicken kabab. Was absolutely delicious. From start to finish. The coleslaw was creamy. Orion rings cooked well. The service and the staff were polite and Lovely to talk to. The place was clean and tidy. Would recommend to anyone.

We found this place when we visited the area last year so visited again for lunch this week. Great food, great service and nice to find somewhere where our dog is welcome too. The food is delicious and the staff are really friendly. Highly recommended if you’re in the area :)

Not really appealing to look at but service and food was great. Very friendly as expected in Scotland will call again if time permits.

Stopped as walked by amd fancied a coffee...fab service n gorgeous doughnuts. Highly recommend. Also do a wide selection of meals reasonable prices. Clean.

lovely lady could not be any friendlier, Great food, Full breakfast excellent sausage and bacon to die for. Lady also let us recharge our phone batteries while we ate.

Stopped while on a shopping trip. Lovely drinks and cakes. Staff were amazing especially with my 3 year old (not happy) nephew. Would defiantly visit again.

Called in for dinner with family on the way to the ferry home. Clean plates all round, very reasonable pricing, helpful friendly server. Would definitely return when in the area again.

Lovely large cappuccino, relaxed atmosphere. Our server Bella very friendly. Nice seating area in front window. Relaxing and welcoming.

An unprepossessing establishment but spacious and clean inside. The cafe has a strong local support and following. Food is freshly cooked, with ample servings by friendly staff. It is very good value for money and therefore ideal for those on a budget.

Proper Italian ice cream - a rarity these days. The coffee is also excellent. The staff were lovely - the atmosphere was almost like a bygone era. Loved it! We will be back!

We visited for a late breakfast when out in Stranraer with our 2 dogs. Lovely warm welcome and good selection of all day breakfasts available. All the family enjoyed their meals, including the dogs who had a sausage each! Good value, good food and good service. Thanks!

After looking for a café to have a quick dinner we decided on the Royal Café, the food was excellent ,well cooked and generous portions and the service was great, pleasant cheerful and nothing was a problem. If in the area we will definitely call again

Lovely wee cafe in Stranrar I was going to sit outside with my puppy but the lady invited me in to sit on the comfy chairs at the front with him as long as we didn't come into the main cafe bit very friendly staff , reasonably priced , good food well worth a visit

Nos quedamos cortos de tiempo, pero el propietario y su personal fue excelente, y nos proporcionó una estupenda comida muy rápidamente. La comida era excelente y no y personal amable. Stopped in for a casual lunch with the children. Good selections all around. Casual atmosphere, good for families.

Popped in here Sunday 30th on way to Portpatrick for a breakfast. Had a lovely filter coffees with it and some toast. Staff were spot on.

Fantastic meal as always. Cooked to perfection just the way I ask for it. Nothing is ever a problem for Veli or any of his staff. Highly recommend here whether it is breakfast, lunch, dinner or just for a cuppa 👌 first class always.

28 December 2016 Again the owner and staff of The Royal Café, Stranraer have came to our rescue. The second time they have demonstrated their honesty and care for their customers by returning items we left at our table after having eaten there. The gentleman (owner) even went to the effort of running down the street to return our package. A first class service from the owner and staff from The Royal Café - thank you sir your help was very much appreciated.

10/10...as always the food is AMAZING.....An extensive menu catering for all taste's. Very High quality home cooked menu.Very helpful, friendly staff.I can't speak highly enough of the Royal Cafe, if your in Stranraer you gotta dine in this fine Restaurant...

We had an hour to spare while waiting for the Cairnryan ferry and were hoping to find something quick and and tasty to eat in Stranraer. And we certainly weren't disappointed by the Royal. The menu was extensive with all the usual café favourites, service was fast, prices were very reasonable indeed, and the proprietor/chef was friendly and chatty. And the food was great, much better than ferry-food..........

Friendly staff, great all day breakfast menu. Deserves a wee visit. Free wifi provided, so you don't even have to speak to each other.

Had a lunch here a couple of times during a weeks stay in the area. The service was quick and polite with welcoming staff. Food was good and the bill was very reasonable.

Pleasant staff served right away nice cup of tea and food tasty surprise x when Bill came how cheap it was would return however don't expect the Ritz nothing fancy but clean

Great food can't fault it had home made chicken noodle soup excellent flavourThen I had chicken curry again made fresh very big portion to much for me Veli and his staff make you very welcome nothing is to much trouble warm friendly atmosphere. You will receive a warm and friendly reception from the owner and his staff prices are very competitive and free wifi to keep you entertained .

The staff are friendly and go out of there way to accommodate, really relaxed atmosphere the food is second to none, best steak pie I have ever had and if you have a mildly spicy pallet the chicken kebab is delicious. All in all would highly recommend this cafe.

Visited with hubby, mother in law and 8 week old baby in a pram. The waitress passed drinks over my baby's head which got my feathers ruffled. Food was greasy and poor quality. Everything was very cheap but expected a little better. Tables were sticky and the place was generally a bit grubby and run down. But if your low on funds and want a stodgy, greasy hangover cure this is your place

pros - Good value for money, semi-friendly staff. (chef was really friendly though). Food was tasty!Cons - black pudding was cut really thin so there wasn't much of it. Beans were kind of stuck together. Lots of watery oil on bacon. But like I say it was tasty! Atmosphere was a bit lack-lustre. Full English came with a tea but if you wanted coffee was a pound extra - thought that was a bit tight when you're already paying nearly 8 quid!

having been here on several occasions I can honestly say its flawless every time veli (the owner) always ensures your happy with your meal even makes alterations just specially for anyone great choice on menu and good value for money

been a couple of times and its ok for what you get. not a bad price and food ok. had better.. had worse
