Came with the Mrs and two kids, food was excellent and not too dear. Beer selection was good too. I had the fish, which was crispy and delicious, the wife had cheese pie and the kids were very happy. Staff were lovely. Top place!!

staff very friendly and we were served as soon as we walked in. My wive had the steak pie, and I had the all day breakfast. First the bad points, the decoration fastened on the wall next to the table had at least one cobweb on it and it needed a good dusting. My better half thought the steak pie was "shop bought" rather than home made and didn't have much meat in. Didn't put her off as in the past she has had the cheese and onion pie and thought it was "the best". The all day breakfast was a good sized plate, full of food, of which every mouthful was lovely. I I have been ill for almost 3yrs and not had much of an appetite in that time, but, I finished the whole lot. Will deffo' be returning.

We were a group of three people who went to this pub to have a lunch. When we walked in we stood for quite a while and no one came to seat us. After a while my husband went to the bar and asked for a menu. We sat down and after a little wait a staff member gave us some menus and asked for our drinks order. The order was 2 teas and a glass of water. When the drinks arrived the 2 teas were in small cheap looking tea cups, with no saucer or spoon and were just plonked on the table. Then 2 small jugs of milk arrived. When I looked in one of the cups it had 2 inches of tea in. I went to the bar and asked if I could please have more and was told by the staff behind the bar in a very unfriendly manner to sit down and it would be brought back full. No apology. The tea bags were again just plonked in the cup, not the kind with string attached. We waited approximately 45 minutes for our order, one meal was an all day breakfast which was ok, the other 2 were egg, ham, chips and peas. The ham an eggs were edible but the peas were hard and the chips were under cooked and tasted like they had been warmed up. Everything on the table looked and felt dirty. At no time did anyone ask if everything was ok. There was only about 3 other covers in the restaurant, so they were not busy. As we were with an elderly person we did not want to spoil there meal so I told our waiting staff(who had been very pleasant) that the chips and peas were absolutely awful. We paid and left. Unbelievably we had been charged £4.80 for the 2 small cold teas. The total bill was well over £30. It was just terrible. We don't know if this pub has changed hands recently but it used to be very good.

First visit since new kitchen installed after all restrictions lifted. The menu had a very poor selection. Scampi, fish and chips, steak pudding, full English, cheeseburger, 8oz sirloin.Just no imagination. No wonder there was only one other couple eating in the hour and half we were there. Even the specials board had no adventure, posh fish finger butty or full english. On the plus side the beer and wine were spot on.

Been our local for around 15 years and seen many changes. Pleased to see that the new manager/landlord is bringing it back to what it should be and is taking note of what what his customers want. A pub with decent home cooked food with ingredients from local suppliers, more than reasonable prices, live music and happy staff! Also now introduced Slimming World options on the menu which not many do.

We have eaten here before and enjoyed what we had I cant say the same about this visit. the owner recommended the chicken and leek pudding The i had and i did not eat it the suet at the bottom was tough and over cooked and the suet all round was too thick. The filling was not very good others had the roast dinner. The yorkshire pudding looked really good and huge the beef looked tough. Another in the party had the bacon shank a lot of fat and seemed like it needed to be done a little longer. The portions are a good size and the staff are very friendly. We will go again sometime as we have enjoyed it in the past.

Rang up early in afternoon on Friday asking food times and if we had to book.Male on phone said 8pm and no booking needed. Having got a taxi from Accrington arrived at 6.40 to be told by female staff that kitchen had shut at 6.30 due to "too many bookings". The place was not as busy as usual so didnt get this 🤔.Maybe something to do with management opening Whittakers on Burnley road and trying to juggle 2 places?...wont be bothering going again! They could have informed us and avoided a wasted journey....Oh Clacky d's chippy up road fed us well, a big plus for them!!

We (3 adults and 1 child) visited the Royal for breakfast, our first ever visit as our previous breakfast venue is closed for renovation. We are definite converts, the place has a nice, clean, fresh feel about it and the staff were excellent. £5.95 for a full breakfast including orange juice and toast, cracking value and quality. The veggie breakfast was a real treat. This is now our new favourite weekend breakfast treat.

All 4 of us throughly enjoyed the meal. We had the nachos with chilli and cheese for starters. That was delicious. We all chose a different item from the menu for the main course. We came for a family meal as a table of 16. There was a slight delay in being seated but it was no fault of the staff. On seating we were greated by the owner who I also believe is the chef and he informed us of the meal choices. Our orders were taken quickly and the starters brought out swiftly. The food is delicious and the portions are HUGE. We had the roast dinner and it was excellent. Proper homemade gravy and massive Yorkshire puddings. There is a good range of child's meals and also offer smaller versions of the from the main menu too.

We decided to visit & upon reading the menu ordered a Ploughman's lunch, which incidentally has to be between two sharing & not one. What was delivered to the table was anything but a Ploughman's, it was all pork pies, crackers - who puts crackers on a Ploughman's?? Cheese, but not Lancashire as specified on the menu & pickle. There was no sign of salad, Apple, hard boiled eggs or anything you find in traditional Ploughman's. We won't be returning!

Went to the royal today with my partner after work, my son came with us but has been in a children’s club all day were tea was provided so he didnt want a full meal, but we asked if could possibly have a plate so he could have a bit of ours ( the portions are huge!) we went for the monday deal which is fish and chips and a pudding for £13. When then manager was giving us our cutlery he muttered “so three of you are eating for £20” and sniggered. We laughed it off but then when the meal was served he then went and told some other diners in the restaurant that we had only ordered two meals but our son was eating and he felt like charging us “full whack” he then came over and said really bluntly “finished” whithout hearing the answer started taking our plates away (my plate was nearly full and my fork still in my hand) he then said he was going to get our pudding. At this pint wed been humiliated enough and said we were fine and asked to pay. He then rudly informed us that he couldnt take this off the bill as it was a meal deal, which is fine because the meal is discounted anyway. Really disappointed in the service and will not be returning which is a shame as we like to eat there every couple of months.

Eaten a few times at the Royal and was very impressed so because of this we opted to book for the christmas day meal. Sadly we was very disappointed. The starter was very nice we all chose a different one and really enjoyed it we equally enjoyed the dessert. The big downfall was the main we all chose the traditional turkey dinner and all agreed it was terrible. Presentation was very poor turkey was like big fillets roast potatoes were too over cooked practically burnt the veg selection was poor and the gravy was very salty and way too much the pig in blanket was way to big not your traditional ones also no yorkshire pud. There was no atmosphere and no festive christmas tunes being played . Cost us £45 per head average price for a meal out on christmas day but I've had a lot better elsewhere. Wish we'd have saved our money and stayed at home

The 2nd time we've been now and I can't understand why the chef feels the need to cover every plate in dried parsley? By all means garnish with a sprig of fresh parsley but not drown the whole meal, they must go through piles of it. Even when we asked this time for none it still got covered. I ordered fish and chips and got shark and chips, it was enormous and delicious. My wife ordered the roast beef and the veg was too hard, and the roast potatos were burnt on the outside but some how raw on the inside, almost like they had been pre cooked hours earlier and left under a heat lamp. But her beef was tender and nice. However that's all she could eat as the Yorkshire pud was also burnt. Prices are good, selection is ok.

This is a really nice pub with plenty of cask ales and sky sports. The food is from a standard pub grub menu but there's a deal of £10.95 for two courses which is fantastic value. The servings are massive so you should come with an empty stomach to fit it all in. The group that I was in enjoyed steak, fish and chips, curry and burgers with no complaints from anyone. The service was good and the only thing that I would suggest is to reduce the size of the portions because they really were huge and I doubt that anybody could fit in a three course meal. Portions were plentiful wasn't to keen on the beef was no taste to it even though looked like a quality piece but just lacked any beef flavour. Everyone else enjoyed theirs. The chocolate brownie was to die for. Only criticism I had that the waitress came to take a drinks order and when the chaps asked what lagers there was, she had just said 'don't know', which rather then her go and find out resulted in the 2 of them walking off to the bar to have a look whilst she remained at our table for them to come back.
