Hotel has amazing location on Loch Lomond and for West Highliand Way. But the hotel itself seen better days and is a bit run down and dilapidated. All that could be forgiven. Less easy to shrug off was incredibly rude and belligerent bar/restaurant manager who had a real attitude problem and clearly never heard of customer service. Ludicrous argument on charging £2 for some Parmesan to go on an order of pasta. Salt and pepper were still free on visit. Great view but avoid staying or eating there if you can.

Great stop for a drink and lunch after climbing Ben Lomond. The beer garden view topped it all off. Cheese toastie was nice and the chips too were tasty.

Had dinner here whilst staying at the hotel and whilst the food was ok the service was non existent. Waiting staff in chaos with our mains being delivered to the wrong table and arriving at ours only a while later, by which time not so hot. Dessert order similarly confused with only half arriving. It took us asking for the missing plate twice before someone went to check in the kitchen and later delivered it.

Not a nice experience. Bar man was very rude - he was the bar manager . Scottish hospitality at its worst sadly . The clue is in the word hospitality… Avoid this place . We then went to a great wee pub on inchmurrin island . They were family run and fabulous. A1 . Thankfully that’s what we find in 99% of Scotlands bars .

Great spot for a night’s rest while walking the West Highland Way. We were running late on a Saturday evening, and the staff, knowing we were on the trail, called to make sure we were ok - much appreciated. The receptionist even stayed late for us and made sure we were able to get something to eat before the kitchen closed. The room was clean and comfortable with a much needed hot shower, and the dinner food and service was very good. Breakfast is probably ok, but I just had cereal. One complaint, if you call it that, the breakfast host could probably be a little better about keeping the juices, coffee and appropriate drinkware available - a lot of waiting around for that. Otherwise, a great stay.

Stayed here for one night whilst walking the WHW. Lee behind the bar advised us that the hotel had reopened for the 2024 season only the week before. The service from all the staff from Rachel at reception through to Lee and the Chef Simon was brilliant. The room was spotless and the food in the bar at dinner and breakfast was incredible - highly recommended and will certainly be back! Thanks all 🙏

DO NOT VISIT THIS HOTEL - Two weeks after having dinner in this hotel, we received a parking fine from Civil Enforcement OF £60 FOR PARKING IN THE HOTEL CAR PARK. Could not believe we were charged for eating at this hotel and parking in their OWN car park. The owners of this hotel should be ashamed of themselves.

The bloke behind the bar worked at full speed, taking orders, pulling pints , serving the food etc. Top marks but the place seemed seriously understaffed. The food however was a different matter - greasy over cooked hard chips, greasy hard over cooked batter on the over cooked fish etc. We sat outside enjoying the view across the Loch on an amazingly warm October day but the experiance was spoilt due to the awful music blasted at high volume when sitting outside really was bad. In short the place looked run down and seems to exploit its location rather than making a nice environment. Could be great but sadly wasn’t.

We stopped for coffee, parked the car in the car park and paid cash for an hour, as there was no facility to pay by card or enter the car registration on the machine. The coffee was very acceptable after a visit and a fair walk along the West Highland Way. We returned to the car after 33 minutes. Unfortunately, the visit was capped with the receipt of a parking fine for £100 on 12 August (£60 if you paid within 14 days of issue date, which was 8 August, giving me only until 22 August to pay). They informed me that I could appeal, but only by letter and they would reply within 14 days of THEIR receipt which would no doubt take me beyond 22 August with potentially having to pay £100, plus 'other costs '! Of course, I had long ago, tidied up and disposed of my purchased ticket, thereby disposing if any potential evidence if having paid... No wonder the car park was nearly empty in such a busy and scenic area!!! For goodness sake, Rowardennan Hotel and Clansman Bar sort out your parking to at least have credit card payment, Ringo or whatever, and have the facility to enter your car registration on the machine! Also, for the sake of your business reputation, arrange to have your parking company refund me the £60 fine!!

So angry at this place. My husband met me at the hotel for food after I finished Ben Lomond. He paid the car parking fee (yes imagine having to pay to park for the 'privilige'of eating here!!!). I ordered the special from the board but my husband returned to say the special was no longer on. I chose an alternative and husband went back in to order. He thought he would be fast tracked but no, he had to queue again at the end of a long queue. Slow slow service, food took ages to come, was very average. Left straight after food. 2 weeks later we get a parking ticket fir overstaying our 2 hours. We appealed to no success. Never have I heard of parking to pay to eat and drink at a hotel. I will never go back there - poor service, average food and a parking ticket for the hotel car park!!!!

On seeing the pub from the outside we were hopeful of a nice lunch and a country pub atmosphere after our walk. However when we arrived our ears were assaulted with loud techno/dance music which would be more suitable for an Ibiza club. It was so loud we ate as quickly as possible then left. How is this suitable for a country pub in the Highlands? This was bad enough on its own, but the chaotic service and bad microwaved food means I would advise anyone to avoid this place! With the right management this place could be amazing, given the stunning location. A real pity.

The whole experience from walking in the door was poor. Lady at bar not socially friendly, in fact slammed pen down on book after looking for a table. Table was clean request water for 3 of which was brought but had to ask 5 minutes later for glasses. Ordered 3 cans of coke which again was brought to table again had to ask for glasses especially due to the fact the cans were dirty on top. Glasses that was brought was still dirty not what you would expect. Food had steak pie and was very disappointed very bland and pastry on top chewey, Kids had a sweet and looked like it was just pinged in microwave. Altogether thought for price of food very disappointed. No competition nearby so basically looks like they don't care. A bit of customer care would go a long way instead of growling faces, a smile would of been nice.

After a long day of walking the WHW, this is the only option for food for many miles, and it shows! The service is not only poor, but completely non-existent. You have to find your own table, get your own menus and cutlery and you’re basically completely forgotten about. Bar staff are rude and unwelcoming, and the meals are bland and appear to just have been heated up in a microwave. A thoroughly disappointing experience after some amazing food in both Drymen and Balmaha, and even with no other options I would not return here again. Some competition is much needed as clearly they can get away with such a poor standard of food and service. The spectacular view is something special though!

Beautiful location, loud dance/techno music inside and out, like Ibiza beats. Most of the beers were 'off', waiting staff fine but bar staff having difficulty with the technololgy. Food arrived at table but had to go and get own cutlery. there was no cutlery left. Beer in plastic cups. We had walked 3km to get here and wanted to leave very quickly. Our room was fine but overall our stay was such a dismal experience due to the terrible restaurant/bar… no management in view, terrible thumping music, surly (but probably over worked?) waitress at supper, and almost inedible ‘pasta of the day’ - and a random old chip in the side salad. Breakfast was equally poor - no love of catering here! No real coffee, no whole grain cereals, cold plates for hot food, and even the water urn ran dry at 8.15am… one kind waitress bothered to help fill a cup for sachet instant coffee, but other than her no one on staff even glanced at the breakfast clients. Such a shame in a beautiful place…who is in charge, we wondered?! A wasted opportunity and a shock after such good experiences elsewhere on the West Highland Way… (as Brits we felt embarrassed that our international fellow walkers were enduring this too)

We had dinner here as we were staying at the adjoining hotel. I had the veggie taco chili and my partner had the burger. The taco shells were completely stale, the veggie chili itself was nothing special and the rice that came with it was the ready in a minute rice. As for the burger, we wished we'd seen all of the other reviews on the burger before ordering! It was very underwhelming - the pattie was a pre-made supermarket pattie that was freezer burnt around the outside. Fries were the only good things about the dishes. On a side note - they were having issues with their WiFi which multiple people approached staff about however they weren't interested in resolving. This wouldn't normally be a big issue but as the hotel doesn't have WiFi (you're told to go the restaurant area to use) and there is no reception in the area, it would have been great to have it working as we needed it to book future things for our trip.

We had dinner and breakfast at the Rowardennan Hotel Restaurant. It was convenient for us since we were staying there and there wasn't much other choice for eating nearby on foot.Reservations were required for dinner - even for hotel quests - whether dining inside or outside. The outside dining was limited to uncovered picnic tables. For dinner I chosed the Pork Belly which I thought wasn't very good, probably the worst Pork Belly that I had ever experienced. I did enjoy the potatoes with my meal. My Hiking Partner ordered the Hamburger dinner which he did not enjoy nor finish. Perhaps our menu choices were just ill-advised butit was surprising that both of our dinner choices should both be unsatisfactory.Breakfast was presented buffet style, as usual. However, the arrangement of the serving trays and food items was haphazard and insufficient. Even at the start of the breakfast meal, many items were not available or ready yet. Eggs were being produced one-by-one to be put in the warmers. Whether a staffing or management problem, or both; the restaurant at the Rowardennan Hotel could have made a better job of it.

She clearly didn’t want to be there by her tone of voice. Took our order which was £38 for two burgers and two beers and we sat down. Took about 30 for the food to come which normally I wouldn't complain about but the place was dead. My chicken burger was alright the fries were good, my husband said he could have got a better burger at McDonald’s. Mind you the bartender sat on her phone the entire time while there were dirty tables, she would go out for a smoke and come back in and take plates etc off of customers tables with her coat still on stinking of smoke. A group of people came in and she continued to ignore them until they went up to her and asked if it were okay to have some food and drinks for 5 people which she inhaled very loudly and reluctantly said it was okay. I would have been joyed with five people seeing that it was dead. Morale of the story is the food can be mediocre and pricey and you wouldn’t really complain however when you have rude staff it just really puts the cherry on top. Won’t be going back.

The hotel and the hotel pub are both grand, but they have recently contracted Civil Enforcement Ltd to impose parking charges in the hotel car park. This is one of the private parking companies that use video to film the car park. I was parked there for an hour while drinking in the hotel pub, and was fined £100 for the privilege (£60 if paid quickly). There were no obvious signs in the car park saying that parking should be paid, so the fine was totally unexpected. I contacted the hotel twice to resolve this, and got no response at all. I have also posted this review on the hotel page.

Stopped in for coffee, small and pricey at 2.80. Looked at the menu as we considered a light lunch but 14.50 for a chicken burger with fries and no salad garnish we decided not to bother. Poor show guys..

I stayed at Rowardennan hotel during my west highland way walk. It was a very pleasant and walker friendly place. The only problem I had was that I got the feeling the owners didn't know which type of clientele they were serving. As a walker it was very nice thank you, but as a holidaying hotel guest I would have been dissapointed as it gave the impression closer to a youth hostel than a hotel.

I didn't think that this little pub was bad at all. We had a bit of lunch after climbing Ben Lomond and the 2 of us plus the dog were made to feel very welcome. The food was decent if not spectacular and all in all a pleasant experience without being amazing.

Prezzi onesti, servizio rapido.

Der "Gourmet" Burger war sooo trocken und beim Poulet wars noch schlimmer. Es drohte Erstickungsgefahr. Schade, bis jetzt war das Essen sehr gut auf dem West Highland Way.

Was staying in the hotel (which is very good btw) and due to there not being much else nearby, decided to eat in the bar on a Saturday evening. During the day the bar is busy with a good through fare of walkers and campers. The trouble with the bar is that it is so dark and the decor dated. The bar staff and waiters were to be honest miserable and seemed to be very sullen with no banter or thanks. The food to be honest is nothing special and to be very honest £14 for a burger and mcain chips and £6 for 3 haggis tatties, which were a bit flavourless, is a real rip off. I think they take advantage of there not being much competition around so raise the prices. The pork belly was just a slice of meat with no crackling and the salmon I was told a bit bland. The bar was almost empty by 9pm and someone must have sold or stolen the traditional scottish bar atmosphere. As one of my friends joked, sort of pub you wouldnt want to get drunk in..Breakfast the next morning was just the same, same sullen faces and service. Plus at 8.30 am there was no bacon left, nor sausages or scrambled eggs. I asked for more, but just got a shrug. The bar due to its great loch side location has so much potential, if they improved the food and brightened up the bar area and just opened the blinds at one end or gave the place an upgrade..

We stopped in here for lunch while on a trip around Loch Lomond. It was awful. Very expensive, tiny bowl of watery lentil soup and a half frozen bread roll, accompanied by poor service from surly staff, getting the wrong meal delivered to our table and problems with paying by eftpos. Made for a memorable visit for all the wrong reasons.

One thing you can normally expect from hotels like this is a good hearty meal with home made soup. Unfortunately they seem to have gone a bit to modern rather than good Scottish staples. The haggis bites were way too greasy to be enjoyed. We declined the soup because it was too nouveau cuisine sounding. What happened to good old fashioned lentil or Scotch/vegetable broth? The breakfast was pretty good though.

We weren’t staying in the lodges but were meeting friends in Loch Lomond and stumbled across this place online so thought it would be a great place to eat and catch up after a walk - and shelter from the rain!

Thé food has no taste. The rice served cold. I had the tiniest piece of salmon for 15 pound and the smallest dish of vegetables. It is a shame that a hotel that serves the hikers along the WHW uses his monopoly to serve such bad food for the hikers .

Food very bad, and not acceptable. Asked for two steaks. Both under cooked. Also they push to close as soon early as possible.

We stopped at the Rowardennan for lunch on the West Highland Way walk between Drymen and Inversnaid. It was a very wet day and we were rather in need of a pick me up. A tiny bowl of cool soup (called cauliflower but otherwise completely unidentifiable), a ham and cheese sandwich without any butter, plus a cup of tea with ‘milk’ in tiny plastic cartons showed utter contempt and indifference to their paying public. We were actually happy to be out in the bad weather again with Rowardennan becoming an increasingly distant memory.

One of our favourite spots in the land. Hotel looking good but bar is its usual dingy self with tables devoid of varnish.

From the outside this hotel looks like it has the makings of being a beautiful place to stay and eat. Although I can’t comment on the hotel rooms, I was a little disappointed with the eating section. We arrived after a long day of walking to find almost all the tables reserved, however for the entire time we were there eating no one sat at any of those tables! The food was ok, but expensive for what you got. It was luke warm and the vegetables were few on the plate. Overall a rather disappointing experience.

Stopped into this great looking place after a wonderful day on Ben Lomond. Son was desperate for ice cream so ice cream it was. Advertised as trio of ice cream with a chocolate “glaze”. What came was three very small scoops (looks like they were assembled with a spoon, in a hurry). The glaze was a gritty, horrible dry brown toothpaste like substance. Absolutely rotten. Burgers here will set you back fifteen quid. Ridiculous. On the plus side, beautiful view from beer garden - that’s worth one star.

It is with my upmost disappointment that if it weren’t for the price point of the items I would have thought I was in a Tesco cafe.

Arrived, for a coffee stop and browse, changed our mind when we seen the cafe, carpet was very dirty and stained, tables not clean, uninviting! Outside plant area, rundown to be honest, no sign of any staff, disappointing visit, such a shame.

Tasty and generous meals in a comfortable, traditional setting. Friendly staff and seemed to be well used by the local community.

Stayed for an overnight on the way back to Glasgow. The evening before we were told there were grilled sandwiches available all day. Returning for breakfast at 9.15am we were then told that only coffee was available. We purchased this £3 for a cold coffee from a flask with a disgusting spoon that had clearly been sitting for hours. When I asked for a clean one and commented I was told I could get my money back in a very aggressive manner. Knowing that there was nothing else in the area I felt very intimidated as I was with a group of females the man clearly had an issue. Then going for a shower to experience faeces up the walls on the main floor and toilets that couldn’t be used. I would not recommend!! The staff on the previous evening were great and having been many times before with other friends and family. This place has clearly been taken over and went right down hill!! If you want a relaxing break away AVOID !! Many other amazing places in the area that accommodate a lot better. Definitely not recommended for females only.
