A self serve café within the grounds of Stirling Castle, offering takeaway or sit-in opportunities. There are plenty of snack options, including a Kid’s Box at £6 which provides a choice of sandwiches, a treat, a piece of fruit and a drink. There are plenty of sandwiches and paninis for adults too and several hot dishes to choose from on display. In our experience there were plenty of staff on duty and the constant queue at the time was kept moving fairly quickly. We found a table in an area with vaulted ceilings, reminiscent of the Castle Kitchens, which added to the ambiance. The grandchildren had Kid’s Boxes, my wife and I had paninis which had tasty fillings, and we also had Americano coffees. The coffee was good enough to warrant a second cup for my wife and I along with a slice of lemon drizzle cake and a scone with cream and jam. All the food and drinks were good and the overall cost was just under £49 allowing for 10% discount as members of Historic Scotland. Toilets were clean but very compact for the size of the premises.

We were going to sit in this evening after the Lantern Tour but the staff members in the cafe were rude. Advertising online to sit in after the tour but more than half the seats are blocked off? Staff clearly weren't wanting the work of serving customers or cleaning the tables. When asking about getting a seat we were told "Good luck with that".

On first glance the Unicorn cafe looks lovely with lots of nooks to eat in and an attractive display of cakes on arrival. It was lunchtime and I had asked whether it was possible to have a sausage roll without salad (a meagre portion I later discovered) for a reduced price to reflect this. Firstly, I was told to go and approach another staff member to ask the question and secondly, I was answered monosyllabically, ‘no’. Yes, I am annoyed at the lack of flexibility and my stupidity: a captive audience already paid to be within Stirling Castle walls (which was fab). However, it was the abrupt manner which I was answered that really irked me. £11.50 for a sausage roll, this cafe is punching well above its own weight. There are plenty of places to eat minutes from the castle, so I’d advise to do that and get better portions, food and service elsewhere.

We paid twenty pounds for two sandwiches and a bottle of water and it was pretty bleak. Mine was an avocado club on chiabatta and the bread was so dry it was certainly several days old. For a nine pound sandwich it was extremely disappointing, with little to no filling in it. I ate half of it because I was pretty hungry but couldnt bring myself to finish it. I regret not going back to the counter and asking for a refund after the first sad bite. The staff seemed really nice and their cakes were good as I got one to fill the disappointment of the sandwich. Sandwiches definitly not worth the money. My boyfriend got the chicken flatbread but said it wasn't worth the money either.

Very practical because you can take away or eat on site, this is the Benugo chain. Smaller than others on the other hand and therefore less choice. There is a variety of sandwiches (prices and recipes) or more elaborate dishes but which seem expensive to me for what they are (for example, the slice of quiche with a small salad for +£10). The desserts/coffee are varied and at classic prices. On the other hand, I agree with the other opinions, the service is disorganized (only 1 person who collects, we don't know who to contact for the order because 3 people are doing the same thing and with the noise we don't always understand them well ) which means that the wait is quite long (15 min for 2 take-away sandwiches)... Please note, this snack restaurant is located in the castle (free access to the forecourt by asking the castle guards). When we went there, the address was wrong and it made us lose 15-20 minutes that we didn't have, because it was located at the bottom of the castle on maps and there were 2 addresses (Benugo and Unicorn cafe, which are the same place in reality)....

Lovely stop when exploring the castle, however is lacking the hospitality feel a visitor attraction should have. I had lunch here whilst showing some English friends around Scotland. The food and the service were great. I'd highly recommend their sandwiches, however the whole process of getting your food and seat feels a bit "service stationy". There seemed to be a lot of staff for no real position, that could have been utilised for table service or even just busting the used tables. I can not say anything wrong about the venue as its beautiful inside with four atriums off of a main corridor. The sandwiches and cake I had was fantastic, and I'd definitely go back for more.

A disappointing visit to this cafe which is the main catering offering on the site of Stirling Castle. The service was a bit standoffish when ordering. All a bit supermarket cafe-ish but with high end prices. Once food was ordered you had to find a table whilst carrying your drinks on a tray. All free tables were littered with previous occupants' dirty plates. No one was clearing the dirty dishes or wiping tables or sweeping the floor, so you just had to pick a dirty table and sit at it. Not a good first impression. The gluten free option (a sandwich) took so long to come I had to go looking for it after the rest of the party had finished their lunch. Cafe toilets were disgusting. They were actually filthy and had I visited the toilets before ordering lunch, I wouldn't have bothered. Such poor standards and hugely embarrassing for international visitors to see. On the way out from the castle tour given it was a cold day, decided to stop for a coffee at 4.15, given the cafe advertises online it is open until 5.30, with the castle closing at 6.00. But no such luck, they were closing up over an hour early, leaving many disappointed and frustrated tourists. A poor offering all roun

We went as a family to Stirling Castle and stopped at this café for lunch. There is a meal deal for children, which we got for our daughter. We were pretty dismayed to see the single-use plastic that arrived with it. There was a single-use plastic box for the sandwich and a single-use plastic bottle for a drink of milk - and a lot of other plastic in the café too. When there are plenty of alternatives - a glass or cup for milk, a plate or even a cardboard box for the sandwich if it really must be wrapped up - it’s hard to see plastic being used in this way. We also felt that £9 was a bit expensive for an adult’s coffee and sandwich. The food was pretty good but we would only come back if the plastic situation was addressed.

The warmth and flavor was so ideal on a rainy day I cut around the noodle so my gluten free husband could taste. I will say baby cries echo well in the high arches walls but it was so good, I wouldn't rush it for anything. I didn't even snap a food photo, I just dug in. I wouldn't miss the town of Stirling but the cafe brings more than I'd guess for an onsite cafe. The architecture was worth a look too, they glass ceiling bisects the arches. The people working behind the food counters were lovely, though one of them put a bottle of sparkling water on my tray without asking. I then took my tray across to the cashier who incorrectly put my wrap through as a steak pie which is double the price.

Beautiful views of the lock, friendly and welcoming staff, with haggis neeps and tatties to die for. Enjoy!!

Popped in for dinner with family after church. Had a great meal with my husband and children and Ali, out server, was friendly, efficient and very lovely. She was professional in her role and had a lovely chatty personality which always helps. What a welcome change to have someone like her instead of a generic robot serving your dinner. Will definitely come back soon!

Visited for lunch - we were well looked after from start to finish and the food in Sanja was absolutely excellent.

Stayed for an overnight on the way back to Glasgow. The evening before we were told there were grilled sandwiches available all day. Returning for breakfast at 9.15am we were then told that only coffee was available. We purchased this £3 for a cold coffee from a flask with a disgusting spoon that had clearly been sitting for hours. When I asked for a clean one and commented I was told I could get my money back in a very aggressive manner. Knowing that there was nothing else in the area I felt very intimidated as I was with a group of females the man clearly had an issue. Then going for a shower to experience faeces up the walls on the main floor and toilets that couldn’t be used. I would not recommend!! The staff on the previous evening were great and having been many times before with other friends and family. This place has clearly been taken over and went right down hill!! If you want a relaxing break away AVOID !! Many other amazing places in the area that accommodate a lot better. Definitely not recommended for females only.
