I cannot recommend this place enough we were here as part of a group and I have got to say the dinner was amongst the tastiest and well prepared food we have ever eaten. We had three courses and each was full of flavour we left smiling and stuffed. Massive thank you to the chefs Blad and Jack for their amazing food both nights of our stay. We couldn’t have been more happy with the quality. The dining room is a relaxed setting and the waiting staff are so helpful.

Downside - Have to pay for parking but I have to tell you now, it’s the most smallest downside ever as the staff cannot treat you enough. Each course of food was better than the next. As it was our 1st wedding anniversary, we opted for the rib eye each and my god, it was cooked to perfection and a huge meal. The chocolate mousse is out of this world and could not get enough of it whilst my wife had the sticky toffee pudding and loved it. Both left smiling, happy and full. Special thanks to Mitchell and Aaron who from the start made us feel so welcome and made sure our meals and evening were perfect. Thank you so, so much and can’t recommend them enough. If you like a deep flavoured but fruity cider, I can also recommend the strawberry Thistly Cross Cider. Thank you for making our evening a truly special one.

Dinner B&B package, but good food and enjoyed it all. The Moroccan lamb dish was lovely and the pitta bread was crisp. The port loin with the pasta was also very good. The extra two pounds charge each for the chicken and prawn tempura. thought was bit much as the portions were not large, but tasty. Nice restaurant.

I personally only ate once in the grill room but the rest of my party did eat twice in here. I had the fish and chips, and I can honestly say they were the best, and presented so differently from other restaurants I have had them in. The chips were big chunky oblong ones and placed like a jenga game with the fish delicately placed on the top. BEAutiful

We have eaten here several times over the years and it used to be good but it has gone downhill. Parking charges in place now - you have to spend £10 to qualify for free paring or you are £2.50 per hour. The building looks amazing as it always has. Inside it has changed for the worse. It looks tired and decor is uninspiring. No one else came in to eat in the 2 hours we were in for lunch. We went for a special birthday meal and told them it was a birthday meal on booking it. Napkin was dirty when I folded it out. No biggie but doesn't fill you with much confidence that other things are getting cleaned. Almost non existent vegetarian choice on the menu - if you are vegan you have no chance. One of our party asked what ciders they had and we were told Prada or Stella (not ciders??).Food wise - some ordered soup which arrived cold. Butter was solid so couldn't be spread on the bread. Another person ordered eggs which again were cold. Disappointing - mentioned it to the staff member who didn't seem to care but siad they would mention to the chef. Main courses - mac and cheese - had better school diners years ago - it was pasta in milk - no cheese and the 6 thick cut chips were greasy. Others ordered fish and chips which they commented as just ok. A side of sweet potato fries which tasted greasy and weird so they were left. Other dishes were no better.Very poor and disppointing - food was bad, service was slow despite being empty and it is just dull. Won't be back.

We came here with a works party for Christmas lunch. We cant believe how poor it was!Dried out pate for starters, followed by dried out turkey roll and stuffing so dry you could build a wall with it. We should have gone to Wetherspoons across the road. The staff and service were excellent however, but even they are being let down by the dreary dried out substitute for real food

Received an Itison voucher for a 2 course Sunday lunch & wine at Colessio. Going on the exterior and interior of Colessio, I was expecting good things from the kitchen, unfortunately it really failed to hit the mark. Firstly, service was SLOW. It wasn't overly busy when we arrived (maybe 4 tables in), but it seemed to take forever to be served our food. When it eventually arrived, it was a complete let down. The Mac n Cheese looks liked something from you'd get at School dinners, very basic and nothing on the plate looked appetising. The Fish n Chips wasn't any better. The batter looked anemic and had no crunch whatsoever. For dessert, we went for the Apple and Cinnamon Tart. Again, another disappointment. The base was wet, with no bite to it and the Apple and Cinnamon topping had a jelly like consistency - not appealling. The ice-cream was actually the best thing we ate all day. Overall, though, just a very below par attempt at a 2 course lunch. We were hoping for something better from the Colessio, but unfortunately the food just doesn't match up to it's surroundings.

Despite its reputation, this place really seems to have gone downhill sadly, certainly from our experience this weekend anyway. Could be new ownership/management?, but it seems to have changed for the worse. Our previous experience at Colessio was very positive. Slightly higher-end dining, great food, good service and genuinely felt special. Perhaps Ed Bryne, the comedian was perhaps of a similar view, as he was also a guest there during our last visit! We were looking forward to our Sunday lunch, as we had an It Is On voucher from my Father-in-law as joint birthday gift, so we waited a few weeks to use it and thought we’d make a family occasion of it.Firstly, we don’t want to be overly critical of the two staff (male and female) who did try and rectify the situation towards the end of our our visit – Both remained polite and professional, one was clearly stressed and we suspect probably not getting much support from their colleagues? We were grateful that the bill for the additional food and drink was waivered, but to be quite honest that only seemed fair in the circumstances. (Something that’s only happened to me one before as far as I can recollect and that was by way of apology for the elastic bands I found in a curry!)Our main issues here were the shockingly slow service, lack of attentiveness of the waiting staff and to an extent the quality of the food. It took 2 hours 40 minutes for a 2 course meal, and my partner only got one of those courses as her dessert still hadn’t arrived when we decided to leave! The general level of service was lacklustre. Waitress happy to take our voucher on arrival, but then didn’t take our coats. We were asked if we wanted drinks straightway, but no menu from which to make a selection and we were due to get wine with our meal as part of the offer anyway. Had to wait ages to find out if these was a children’s menu available. Small details, but staff seemed poorly managed and/or trained or maybe just didn’t give a monkey’s?Our main issue was speed of service – shockingly slow but very little explanation or apology as to why. They may well have been short staffed in the kitchen, we don’t know, but can only guess …. There seemed to be sufficient staff on duty when we arrived, but learnt latterly that the lunchtime waiting staff ended their shifts at 15:00, with the reception bar staff then expected to take over so there seemed to be little continuity. It’s a sorry state of affairs when you actually have to go and look for waiting staff, and I don’t think we were the only ones as another disgruntled couple were also looking for the duty manager. Maybe the place was in meltdown but for a time it seemed like no one seemed to care.Food – mine as OK – Scottish mussels for a starter, Sunday Roast special for the main, well presented although food temperatures were a bit uneven. My partners fish and chips that she waited well over and hour for looked pallid and nothing particularly special – you’d probably get better in a Wetherspoons to be honest. Our daughter’s Mac n’Cheese again OK but had to make a point of asking for Mayonnaise with the fries and then had to wait ages for her dessert order to be taken. All in all this was very disappointing visit, particularly as it was a gift, from somewhere we expecting much more from. If the place is now under new management, seriously get your act together before it’s too late. Maybe you just can’t get the staff these days, but sadly, I suspect our recent poor experience was not unique.

Having eaten here before, we know they can do much better. It would have been nice if I was told upon booking a table that they were renovating as the options at the bar were very limited (I.e. there was no draught beer and no tomato juice). They also only offered three wines by the glass for red or white which was quite odd. What was apparently a new menu didn’t really give a lot of options and the variety you would expect from this restaurant. For example, there was no salad and no chicken on the menu. Having said this, what we ordered was cooked well and with the care and attention you’d expect from the collessio. We just expected them to be up to their usual standard. Just a bit disappointed on this occasion.

I booked a sunday lunch for myself, my mum and mother in law expecting to treat them to a three course meal selection as advertised for a cost of £16.95 per person. We were sadly dissapointed on arrival to be offered a much more expensive menu and so we all picked only a main course. Both my mum and i chose the duck with seasonal vegetables and we were left hungry as the portions were tiny and at £16.95 each totally overpriced. The decor though lovely could do with a good clean. The restaurant is filled with artificial orchids that are filthy with dust and the beautiful diamond mirror wall is smeared and dirty as is the wallpaper. I had been looking forward to eating here based on what i had seen online but sadly will definetly not be returning or reccomending to my friends.

We had previously dined here a year or two ago and it was fine. However our recent visit was very poor indeed. The restaurant was freezing, the place seemed worn out and everything tired. The goats cheese and beetroot salad was tasteless with limp lettuce, the two steaks were full of fat and grisly. Were very happy to end the evening early not interested in coffees or pudding at that point. The staff however in the most part were friendly if not skilled.

We booked a table for 7 of us Sunday evening for dinner. When we arrived we were asked straight away if we had vouchers which I found a little impersonal then we were presented with the ‘menu’ which was very limited and not what I had previously viewed online. I asked if this was the only menu and was told yes as they were updating their A la Carte menu - there was a choice of 4 starters ( none of which I liked) and I am not a fussy eater and 4 mains and a steak menu. The price on the menu online I had earlier viewed for a filet was £30 however on the menu we were given it was £35.. ( is this because we were using vouchers) there was also no chateubriand which I was looking forward to. I asked the waitress if there were any options of sides and was told ‘only skinny fries’ no cabbage no vegetables .... nothing..!! We ordered the sharing platter of steaks and the ‘sides’ consisted of 4 cherry tomatoes and half a burnt red onion - very disappointing for the £75 price tag.

Stayed at the hotel for two nights on a business trip. In the restaurant, on both nights, staff did not engage with customers and did their best to avoid them, so if you need a drink or to order your meal, you might need to set off some flares to get them to take notice. On the first night, I ordered scallops (£13), I got three scallops on a plate and on cutting them open, they were completely raw inside. Then had to try to flag down the waitstaff who were doing their best to avoid all eye contact, to explain that the scallops were raw. They took them away and brought back the exact same ones, cut open, and now cooked. Nice. Then dinner was served, and no salt / pepper on the tables, and had to go ask at Maitre D stand for someone to bring salt and pepper..I was continually having to get up from the table to go to Maitre D, to ask him to send someone over. Very annoying, especially as there were only four other tables with diners in the whole place at that time (6:15pm). I thought it must have been a one-off and tried it again for dinner the next night. However, after being completely ignored again, with all wait staff avoiding eye contact, I got up and left, without eating. Shameful for a restaurant that markets itself as 5 stars. Avoid unless you don’t mind a long wait and being treated like you do not exist.

Impressive building, used to be Stirling Royal Infirmary set halfway up the hill going towards the castle. On entry the black and white décor looked impressive but on closer look was decidedly worn and tired . To be fair the present owners have not been there long enough to instigate changes . The bar is definitely not one to stand at and although has an impressive display of bottles , spirits etc , only a choice of 4 beers low quality unless you actually consider Tennents lager premium , I would expect quality premium beers to be on offer in a boutique hotel charging circa £150 per room. The seating area was very comfortable and lunch menus were promptly delivered .

The dining room is beautiful and one expects to have a lovely time. However service was shoddy (manager, waiting staff and kitchen not communicating with each other), food was not as described (the kitchen could not find the bananas? for the banoffee waffle so instead of asking us if we'd like to select something else they just brought without and offered us berries instead), coffee came before desert (about 20 minutes before and so was cold) and we sat for over 2 hours in all waiting for all this mediocre food. To be fair they reacted to our complaint very well and we ended up not paying for coffee or desert, in fact bill was less than half what we expected to pay. But its a shame because they could do so much better.

We were given a gift voucher for afternoon tea here and were looking forward to it but it unfortunately fell a bit short of our expectations. When we arrived the restaurant was empty apart from one other couple so there wasn't much atmosphere although the decor was lovely. When we came to order we were very surprised to find that they only had English breakfast tea or a selection of ffuit teas. I was so disappointed as I prefer a lighter tea like Earl Grey. I had to settle for the English Breakfast and asked for a pot of water to keep it 'weak' but before the tea arrived the waitress came over with a box of Darjeeling tea bags which I chose to have instead. I then noticed a sticky lump of food/jam on the edge of the table and had to ask them to clean it off. The girls who served us were lovely and very apologetic and I felt a bit sorry for them as it wasn't their fault the hotel had run out of Earl Grey. We really enjoyed the food and the service was good but we wouldn't rush back. Any establishment doing afternoon tea should have a selection of traditional teas on offer.

Went to this hotel for afternoon tea. Beautiful building in the historic centre of Stirling's old town, neo classical facade. Parking is very, very limited, due to its position on the centuries old castle rock site. On-street parking is plentiful and mostly takes care of that problem. On entering the building, the downside started to emerge. The carpet in the reception could have done with a whisk round with the G-tech, sometime in the not so recent past. The Grill Room is very Ascot Gavotte with its black and white theme. Well, black and not so white. The gaffer tape carpet repairs were a really classy touch. To be fair, our visit was at the end of the season and these shortcomings might have been down to end-of-season tiredness. What is less easy to overlook were the sandwiches. Meagre, messy and in one example, rock hard inedible. Cakes were great! On the other hand, we couldn't overlook the fact that tea arrived without milk or sugar. I had to seek out a waiter, who seemed surprised and just a bit offended that we should need these. The hotel looks luxurious and classy: it's not.

Very disappointing visit to Colessio today. We had been given a voucher for an afternoon tea and had been looking forward to a nice afternoon out for months. At the time of booking I mentioned several intolerances and just a dislike of butter on sandwiches. I was assured this was no problem. We arrived, were seated and waited a little while for a glass of tap water. We were then offered a menu to choose from. This was quickly removed and we were informed that due to our food intolerances they would bring us a special plate that had been specially prepared. The food arrived, looking ok and then I noticed that the sandwiches were all buttered. I managed to get someone’s attention 5 mins later and then had to wait a further 15 minutes to get a fresh plate. We received what felt like a very insincere apology and were left to it. The sandwiches were ok- nothing special. The cakes were fine- but if I’d wanted Mrs Crimbles/ Sainsbury’s taste the difference I’d of went to the supermarket and bought them myself. Having had afternoon teas in places like the Blytheswood and Norton House who both offered a fantastic selection I am so disappointed in Colessio. We had intended to have a few glasses of fizz and a cocktail or two and make an afternoon of it but after that and not even being offered anything further to drink we decided just to leave. While we were waiting for our jackets we were asked if we’d enjoyed it. I replied that I was really disappointed and was asked why. I explained and again received a very insincere apology and was informed that they do their best with intolerances. Sorry but this just shows a complete lack of knowledge or interest from their side. Food intolerances are not uncommon anymore so this simply not an excuse. And a 15 minute wait for a plate of sandwiches is just ridiculous.Definitely won’t be back.

My friends and I booked a table for afternoon tea, and we will definitely return, cannot fault it at all.We were seated immediately and our waitress asked if any of us had any dietary requirements before being asked whether we would like tea/coffee/hot chocolate (one of us opted for a glass of prosecco - which was served in a lovely glass with a strawberry in it).Our sandwiches etc were served shortly after, and it all looked and tasted very nice. There is one of each item for every person having afternoon tea, which is ample and it does fill you up.We were approached a few times to check if we required a top up of drinks and if everything was okay, staff were attentive. The decor is beautiful, very stylish. The car park isn’t very big, however we did manage to get parked at rear of hotel (failing that, there is on-street parking outside hotel). All in all, a very pleasant experience and will look forward to returning for afternoon tea again soon.

We had a meal here on Saturday with my family to celebrate my brothers birthday. We were a large group of 9 with a baby. The decor is lovely with very comfortable chairs. There was a great choice on the menu and all the food was fantastic - beautifully cooked and very enjoyable. The one area I was to highlight is the staff - they are excellent. All of the waiting staff were very attentive and polite, but I would like to make a special mention of our waitress Stephanie. She was really fantastic, she was great with my nephew and kept him very entertained. She arranged a little birthday dessert for my brother and even phoned and booked taxis for our journey home. She really did go above and beyond to make our evening enjoyable and she is a credit to your establishment. We will definitely be back.

Booked a table as we were staying in the hotel. The Grill Room is visually stunning all black and cream with mirrors. Plush seats and lovely decorated tables kept the swanky theme going. We were sat promptly and asked what we would like to drink etc and all was going well. Then we sat for about 15 mins with nothing. We were asked a further two times if we would like to order drinks to which we replied "we have ".Anyway, drinks eventually came and we ordered steaks and all the trimmings. Food came resonably quick and looked nice but once we started eating the steak was actually quite chewy and the fat was hardly even seared. I ate what I could but left a big bit. Too much work. My partner commented that other people were sending back their steaks but I couldnt be bothered. I had ate all the sides and didnt want to be eating alone like the lady in the seat behind us who also complained and sat with nothing for ages......Anyway, we finished eating, politely said nothing and ordered desserts which were lovely. We were not asked if we wanted more drinks and we had to go find a waitress to pay our bill. Such a shame and a disappointment when the place looks so professional.

Took my daughters for afternoon tea - had already informed them that one of our party was vegetarian. Welcomed and shown to our table, ordered drinks and requested tea to be brought later. Staff were attentive without being intrusive. They brought the usual 'cake' stand filled with three of everything - when we reminded them about the vegetation, they brought three further sandwiches- there didn't seem to be a vegetarian substitute for the sausage roll - which would have been nice, and when you are at a 5 star establishment I would have expected. All this could be overlooked, until we came to the scones - which were inedible, tasted of bicarbonate. When they came to remove our dishes we requested a 'doggy bag' for the couple of cakes/pastries that were left, and also informed them of the inedibility of the scones, kinda clear from the half eaten ones on our plates and three uneaten ones still present - were told the chef would be informed....we received no follow up on this, no offer of replacement nothing. Again, poor from a 5 start establishment.

We came for lunch here on Sunday 27th. Seated quickly but after that service went downhill. Took almost 20 mins for a drink order to be taken then a further 10 for food. Food and cocktails were great and couldn't fault them but service really let it down!Took about 20 mins after finishing for plates to be cleared and anything else to be offered. It wasn't busy in the slightest as staff just walked past us without even looking in our direction - it's a really over rated place that claims to be better than it is. Much nicer places to go in Stirling where staff are more attentive

Visited with 5 girls for a 40th birthday celebration and encountered such a shocking experience we will certainly remember the lunch for all the wrong reasons.Seated promptly we then waited for orders and drinks which arrived after almost 30mins. The poached eggs were solid and the hollandaise sauce was split and the waiter' s response was "aye...that happens" and replaced them with a dish of melted butter. Mains were fine but an order of cauliflower cheese for 5 was met by one tiny portion that would have fed a small child. Now it gets really bad... by now we have been seated for an hour and a half and managed only 2 courses. We order dessert and wait a further 30 mins for them to arrive. Rhubarb crumble tart and custard was a pre baked pastry case , 4 pieces if hard rhubarb..and that was it. The thimble of custard was .. wait for it ... synthetic banana custard. The meringue was actually ice cream and coulis and a cheesecake was cream and dust. The restaurant manager confessed the kitchen has run out of supplies and he was aware of the banana gloop. To recompense for this disaster he offered to "Not charge the desserts " .. We hadn't touched them !!!The staff then avoided us ..no clearing of our table , offer of tea or coffee or to bring the bill. We had to go to the reception to get the bill and true to his word the only concession was to not charge for untouched and inedible dessert. The staff yesterday all need lessons on customer service. The impression we had were of a disinterested unmotivated team. How a kitchen served that food and why waiting staff brought it beggers belief. Total lack of respect in the restaurant and to the customer. You should all be ashamed. There are 5 ladies embarassed for you snd who will not be back

Today I went to the colessio for a family lunch it was for my cousins wives 40th. It took 2.5 hours before we even got to the dessert. The food was poor my aunt ordered the asparagus with poached eggs the egg was hard and the hollandaise sauce had split. When she said to the waiter whom I think was the manager on today, he simply said it goes like that when u pour it on the plate. In other words it's split!!The Sunday roast was shameful the meat was very fatty and the vegetables were Luke warm my cauliflower was rock hard. We had ordered cauliflower cheese and asked for a portion for 5 people when it arrived there was only enough for 1 person again we said and they did bring out more. The cheese sauce was watery! Then the dessert some ordered the rhubarb crumble tart with vanilla custard, what we received was a laugh a plain pastry case with hard rhubarb in it no crumble and bannana custard , my other family members ordered cheesecake not sure what it was but it was not cheese cake. Overall this was poorly managed by staff members who were avoiding the table no tea or coffee was offered or to top up our drinks. My aunt spoke to the manager all he could say was sorry and didn't bill us for our desserts. The manager also said that they had not received their deliveries so the didn't have certain items! If you don't have it don't offer it. I was astonished that the chef was happy to serve this food to customers. And there was no way that the staff even seemed bothered to try and rectify our experience. Very unhappy customer!

The venue was 10 out of 10, the meal was 4 out of 10 the service was 0 out of 10. Sat there for nearly three hours was offered a drink at the start of the afternoon and after being prompted the staff came round and took another order. Now if the service is going to be abysmal it would help if the staff would offer to serve drinks irrespective of the cost, at least you could get inebriated, this is one place where you will never ever get drunk. If you would like a nice meal with attentive staff, try the Hollybank at 58 Glasgow Road Stirling. Also as a warning don't try the Premier Inn Pirnhall Stirling unless you wish to sit on the toilet for the rest of the evening.

Arrived once again for booking not to have been registered. Was told lucky as they were quiet. Waitress was pleasant, ordered starters which were lovely. Mains arrived my jasper burger was pink throughout, had already ate quarter of it. Waitress took my burger and I continued to eat chips, which weren't very crispy. New burger brought about 15 mins later. Daughter had finished and was ready to leave, took a bite of new burger but felt so put off by previous burger left it and told waitress as she asked if didn't enjoy it. Which she understood when I explained. Was charged fully but waitress took bill and amended it and only paid for soup. This is the second experience of this hotel. Last one was totally ruined (my daughters birthday lunch) enquired re buffet lunch on a sunday again receptionist explained and she booked us in, unfortunately for grill room not other room where it was held and had finished, so you can imagine the crap service we received, as all the staff were clearing up and met by an unaided table, soup with no bread, no name place, napkins and imagine asking for water! Has vowed never to return but every place has its bad days I suppose! Definately won't return. On a happier note had an amazing experience at The Royal Hotel in Bridge of Allan for 6 people for my daughters graduation which has the same owner, would go there before Collessio.

My wife and I had dinner at the Colessio. The food was sadly overpriced and badly cooked. Our Filet Rossini was dry and tasted nothing of truffles. My wife's scallops as a starter were okay. I booked this lunch venue some 3 moths ago.. from the outset the customer service and attention to personal needs has been just wonderful. I had to change the time of our booking just 4 days before the event,( with Mark) and it was met with a 'can do" attitude. When we arrived today (29th June 2017).. we were greeted warmly, and shown to our table swiftly. The food was very very good, all 3 courses were served quickly, but not so that you would think you were being hurried, and not one of our party of 5 had any complaints. Our attendant, Leighann was the epitome of someone who knows how to treat her customers with the perfect amount of customer care and service... what I liked was that Leighann really took the time to talk to all of us, very naturally and she appeared to enjoy what she was doing... it truly enhanced our time at Hotel Colessio. I can't think of a more perfect venue where we might have celebrated my sons Graduation. Thank You Hotel Colessio.

Two nights staying in the hotel this restaurant is attached to, so two nights eating here! Firstly on the way we tried to phone to ensure we got a table, the phone rang and rang but was unanswered, tried for over an hour. Mentioned it when got here “we were too busy”. First nights meal was ok but noted the menu was “tricky” bit precocious if anything and I actually said to person with me that I hoped it would be different menu next night. No it wasn’t so then I opted for the trusty steak with £11.95 surcharge!! If there is going to be a surcharge of that magnitude the dish needs to be good, it wasn’t in fact it was atrocious, tough, badly cooked and presented pathetically. The wait for some mustard just added to the frustration. Unfortunately I like staying at this hotel so no doubt will have to eat here again…..although I’d rather not, Hilton it’s time for a change please
