This is a wonderful hotel, in a perfect location overlooking the Cathedral and minutes from River walks into the charming town/village. Service, especially from Moira, is very professional and efficient with a nice measure of friendliness thrown in too. Dinner menu is extensive with plenty of choices for all tastes , and food quality is of highest standard. Highly recommended!

A group of us, suitably socially distanced stayed the night at the hotel. Included in our deal was dinner and breakfast. All the food served in the evening and breakfast the next day was superb, none of us could fault any of it I can recommend the chowder, yummy. Unfortunately no alcohol was served due to the Corona nonsense but soft drinks tea and coffee were. All staff were polite, prompt and well presented.

The menu reads well and fortunately the kitchen delivers. A good Beetroot Tartare - was aided by pleasant Goats cheese - to start though the “Auld Reekie” Mushrooms were very good and fortunately shared. The Chicken was just Lush - moist, well-grilled and plentiful - and the whole dish with Coconut, Rice, Apricots and Peppers was well conceived and delightful. A good and tasty Monkfish Tail(s) with fries and ‘mushy’ peas was enjoyed. [Mushy Peas used to mean Marrowfat, but here it was pressed Garden Peas with Mint] A shared Baked Alaska was large and sweet. Front of House was expertly managed by a charming woman.

Wasn't expecting that much on our first visit after the easing of lockdown, despite a few previously enjoyable visits, to what is now entitled Mason Belles Kitchen ( the restaurant in the Old Churches Houses ) . Boy was I wrong ! Our meal on Thurs 30th July was memorable. The catch of the day was seabass and prawns with pak choi and ginger/soy sauce. Amazing. Would have soaked that sauce up with anything available even from other tables and heard another gent at a near table express a similar opinion ! My wife's Crispy Gnocchi was equally well received . The chef on that night is really, really talented and deserves recognition. So pleased this place is open again.

Family meal out tonight. I had the Cullen Skink to start basically ir was a bowl half full with loads of potato and the sauce but very little fish if any, it probably the bottom of the pan made for the day.The steak deal is best avoided as its two small pieces of Steak, some oven chips, half a tomato and a slice of mushroom. No effort put in what so ever.It put a question mark in head straight away when we walked in as there were only two other tables taken. I shall know for next time.

We chose Old Churches House to host a celebratory Lunch for our Golden Wedding - and in no way did they disappoint! There were around 40 diners all told, and they were good enough to give us exclusive use of the restaurant on a Sunday lunchtime. There are a whole host of things that can go wrong at a function like this, but the whole operation was faultless. First of all, the food was first class. We offered a choice of three of each of starter, main course and dessert; they were all delicious, we received many favourable comments from friends and family. The service was excellent - everything arrived on time, and no table was left waiting. (At the hotel's request, we had asked guests to pre-order their meals - this ensured that everything flowed smoothly.)Wine with the meal, and a welcoming champagne, were from the hotel's standard list and were excellent. A pay bar was also available. The room was beautifully and tastefully decorated, and the hotel was happy to cater for our special requests, like facilities for cutting a cake. We had two guests (one a child) who are gluten intolerant, and this was accommodated with no problem at all.All in all we were delighted. And the overall price was not at all unreasonable.

I visited with my mum for lunch today and we both ordered the catch of the day which was haddock at a cost of £12.95. What was served was very poor indeed. There were three small goujons of haddock covered in batter which was thick and sponge like.. not at all what you would expect especially given the cost. We sent the meals back. We were given the choice to reorder but we decided to leave.

Second time I've had Sunday roast under current regime and won't bother going for a third. Sunday roast last time was at least juicy, but today was wafer thin, over cooked and dry and tasteless. Gravy was unpleasant, strongly flavoured with clove for some bizarre reason, and roast potatoes were not roasties, they were new potatoes, pre boiled then finished off in the oven. Not crispy on the outside and not fluffy inside. Veg were Ok ish but unseasoned and uninteresting. Gravy was really the last straw. Last time was served on the side so could be avoided but today was poured all over everything and unavoidable.

Had a lovely meal at the Old Churches. We had a Groupon voucher that included 2 main courses from the menu. The meals didn't include steaks, unless a supplement was paid so in the end we opted for Mac n Cheese and the Cheese n Bacon Burger. Both meals were great! The burger had heaps of flavour and I really enjoyed it on the ciabatta roll. The Mac n Cheese was rich, creamy and very tasty! Some restaurants opt for a very strong cheese in their Mac n Cheese, which can leave a weird aftertaste, but this wasn't too strong and was very moreish. The side of garlic bread was really nice, too.

This was our second visit for afternoon tea today. Our savoury food was lovely with excellent mini steak pies. The sweet selection again good but we were very dissappointed with the scones, jam and cream. The scones were a poor quality and for some reason these were served with squirty cream and given that it was a very hot day this cream flopped. Part of a good afternoon tea to us is scones, jam and cream but on his occasion this let the tea down. Very pleasant and helpful staff.

First visit to both the hotel (separately reviewed) and this restaurant within it for my wife and I just before the Easter weekend. Really wasn't expecting the quality of food on offer. I had beautifully flavoured and presented fishcakes that had lovely sweet and sharp accompaniments on plate. Delicious. My wife's unexpected combination of haggis and duck bonbons were a revelation. Eye opening cooking. The mains, while slightly more mainstream, certainly still delivered with style. Beautifully cooked trout on lentils and beetroot for me and a very flavoursome individual steak pie for my wife. Lipsmacking. All this delivered by lovely friendly staff and with an amazing view over to the Cathedral. A very memorable and unexpectedly brilliant first culinary experience here. Thank you to all concerned. I live quite close to OCH, and have always been a tad annoyed that my first experience here was so poor. So I popped in for lunch today, to check it out, as it is now under new management. Pleasantly surprised. I just had soup and a sandwich, but they were perfect. I'd the Cullen Skink (I liked the small potato dice, suited to soup, and just enough fish, but not too much) and the perfect cheese sandwich (enough finely-grated, decent cheddar to stay in the sandwich rather than spill out on the plate and lettuce with a crunch). Straightforward food done well. I thought the menu a little limited, so I'm not sure I'd come back for dinner, but I'll keep an eye on their social media for any updates on the menu. The restaurant was busy for a Tuesday, and the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. So comfortable, in fact, that we'd a couple of slices of birthday cake from a neighbouring table. And we'd planned on being there for an hour or so and stayed for almost three, so I guess they are doing something right.

We had a 3 course family dinner one Sunday evening at juniper. Very impressed. Wide choice of food. Restaurant layout hasn't really changed but food and service were good. Reasonably priced dinner and the kids enjoyed the options for them. A definite recommendation

the menu has something for everyone. The food was extremely impressive. I had trio of prawns and husband had Haggis bon bons. Venison Bourguignon for main and Pig on a Plate, twice-roasted pork belly was hubby's choice. Our plates were totally clean! The Venison was incredible and I'd love to have that again. Staff were very attentive. Good wine/beer selection.

We booked at Juniper Restaurant on the advice of our hotel's concierge and were very glad we did. It is a modest place but the food is truly outstanding. I particularly recommend the smoked duck breast and the "pig on a plate".

Our First visit but having known Kenny for over 30 years and having been trying to get to Juniper in Tillicoultry since it opened I made it to Dumblane first - excellent food well prepared and exquisitely presented with prompt and attentive service at a very honest price, thanks for a lovely meal even if we were fit to hibernate after 3 courses

Booked a table for dinner early Saturday evening at Juniper Restuarant, menu and specials really interesting and a really different choice. Fat pig off the menu a really large meal with pork, pork belly and black pudding. Certainly fills to the brim. Special of fresh caught Scallop done with fresh veg and a Thai green sauce, a superb selection. Staff really nice and there for your every need, reasonably priced and a good wine selection.Would certainly recommend if your in the area. JThe cathedral across the road is worth a see, stunning building

Ate while visiting family. Started off with a drink on the outside terrace which was lovely. Great menu spoiled for choice. Told you where all the food came from locally in the area which was good. Had the flavour of Scotland starters to share they were all amazing especially the smoked haddock soup. Everyone's starters were amazing. Had venison bourguignon my son had the children's spaghetti bollenase and garlic bread. All the food was excellent quality . Big portions no room for pudding. Lovely atmosphere staff were friendly and attentive. Shame it's not closer to home.

I have long enjoyed The Juniper Inn in Tillicoultry, so when I heard they were opening a restaurant in The Old Churches House Hotel I was excited to try it out.I can confidently sat they have successfully transported the excellence to the new premises it's just as good as the original. The food is outstanding and I heartily recommend the Haggis Bonbons and the Steak and Ale Pie is to die for, the service was very good and a warm smile greets your entrance. There is only one issue I have personally, I am disabled so the entrance is via the terrace which entails a steep drive to be endured. Not perfect for me but I won't be letting that put me off.

Food was good and sevice friendly if a bit rushed due to place being busy. cullen skink excellent. Lots of chioce for gluten free and vegan diners. Wine was also excellent. One point that needs addressed, no butter provided with bread and no sauces offered with chips or burger. A smal point, otherwise recommended and prices reasonable.

The service in this restaurant was good and the staff were very nice. The continental selections were about average. The cooked items were nicely done and we were pleased that the window for serving breakfast was not narrow unlike other places we stayed.

Five of us visited today. Most had a sandwich plus soup or chips. It was tasty and well presented, and reasonably priced. Staff too were good - although I'm still waiting for the vinegar I asked for to put on my chips! We've been on a couple of previous occasions - and its always been good.

Nice stay in nice hotel. We were in room 6 overlooking the cathedral but a bench outside our bedroom window meant we had to close blind. We intended having lunch but there was a private function on so only ate in restaurant for breakfast which was lovely apart from brick hard bacon. Bit of a mix up when we arrived as we'd already paid in march but were asked to pay and were told my card had declined which was not true but bit embarrassing. This was sorted out quickly though. Only fault with room was cistern took forever to fill so my husband and I had to use toilet with long time in between! Nice stay though and good service

We stayed here on Sunday night and Monday night. On our day we ate in the restaurant for lunch,I Ordered the fish and chips, the fish was thick with grease, and the waitress offered me a fresh one but it came out the same as the first one,the batter was too thick,I did get a refund and was also given a bottle of wine in our room, which was fine, but on Monday morning there was a lot of banging at 6am in the morning, and this went on till we gave up and got up to carry on with our short break,I did not complain as I did not want anyone to think that I was causing trouble, but on Tuesday morning there was a lot of banging at 5.10am and this went on all morning,by the time we went for breakfast I did complain,so once we finished breakfast a lady came to our door without introducing herself and said she was sorry but it was the man from fishers collecting all the laundry who had made all the noise so early in the morning banging doors,it was too late for the apology as we were checking out at that point.I would not recommend this place for a nice quiet relaxing place to stay as it was the total opposite.I am very disappointed after spending 180 pounds for the two nights,we were given a family room, but as there was only two of us a double room would have done.WE will not be back...

After remortgaging the house we decided to get some lunch at the Snack Stop. We had lots of money in the bank and decided to use as much as possible. Suffice to say we weren’t let down. Upshot is if you want a ridiculously expensive lunch on paper plates and cardboard cutlery then this is the place for you. £6.50 for a box of 6 sad looking nuggets , £9.99 for a baked potato with 2 fillings. Keep driving past so your kids will get some Christmas presents this year.
