One of the best meals we have ever had, so tasty and generous portions. Absolutely gutted that tips cannot be left by card, nearest cash machine 3 miles away. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, and I would have wanted to tip. Dog friendly too! Message to owners: your staff make your business what it is, allow them to be able to accept tips by card.

I’m just so disappointed that I couldn’t give this place 5 stars. The hotel is in a wonderful location and is very handy for going into the city centre. The service from the staff is excellent they are all so nice and very sincere. With a few little changes this would be an amazing place. After 21 years in hospitality my biggest hate is arriving to a cold bedroom it’s a very simple thing on a room check to turn the radiator and towel rail on. Unfortunately when you have this issue you tend to pick up on other things that you may have overlooked. The bedroom had big cobwebs in the corners, the bathroom had a piece missing from the tap, the threading had gone on the shower so it was too hot for me to take a shower. I did report each of the issues in the morning and the staff member was very apologetic which was very kind of him a huge plus here would be to contact your guest and let them know that each of their issues had been actioned. If housekeeping has improved then I would be delighted to return here as I enjoyed the many other aspects of the hotel.

We only had a meal in the bar here. Good varied menu, quite reasonable. Service was very slow at first, one pleasant but very laid back young guy serving very slowly. He knew nothing of whiskys, or of the menu, better training maybe?? A young lady who was on the ball joined him an hour later thank goodness!!

The Good: - very friendly staff at the reception and at dinner. Friendly smalltalk - The size of the room was okay. The Bad: - breakfast starts at 0800, not earlier. Still, at 0800 the breakfast was not ready, at The staff Kind of ignored us. We Die not feel welcome anymore. - The double bed was only 140cm. For two persons not okay, and not matching the price. - Very old single glass window. Only limited possibility to get fresh air into the room - More or less no room isolation. We could hear every step and every use of the stairway door. The Ugly: - The window was next to the ventilation system (maybe aircon) of the lower floor. The ventilator was very noisy, and runs the whole night. - The window frame was damaged long time ago, and never fixed. - The bathroom was not in a condition that I wanted to touch something. - One of the towels was already used, it contained rests of make-up

We really enjoyed our stay in the Kirkhouse Inn. We were welcomed with open arms by a lovely young staff. The rooms was maybe a little out-dated but that didn't make it less cosy. The first evening we have stayed for Dinner which was very lovely! After this we have enjoyed a Euro football match in the bar of the Inn. We had a lovely time meeting some locals. The staff was always open for a little chat which gave the stay a nice extra.

First of all : Self-service at this price ?! Then, we specifically asked if we could order food but by the time we got the drinks and looked at the menu we were told that the kitchen is not even taking orders for the next half hour?! Never heard that before... so the only thing to do was leave.

The Kirkhouse Inn is easy to reach from the main street through Strathblane. The car park is large. Being settled so close the first hills at the entrance to the Highlands and so close to Glasgow makes the Inn a perfect place to stop for an afternoon tea or coffee. There is a restaurant and deeper inside is also a bar with a pool table.

Staff warm and friendly so a good welcome after a long day walking. Food rather average- my goats cheese starter was fine but the scallops ordered by two of our party were small and chewy. Mussels as a main were - well- mussels. Sauce was a little over rich but OK. Gammon steak enjoyed by others in the party looked good. Service was a bit slow- staff worked really hard to serve us but they could have done with another member of the team.

We stopped off for lunch with family. Have been many times in the past, although admittedly not been for about 1-2 years. Nice new decor. Very slow service despite there only being two tables in- waited for 20 mins before asking to order drinks. Part of orders forgotten and main courses brought out whilst still eating starter, only to be returned to kitchen and left to dry out under the heater. Food was rather bland. This is very different to previously, where the food was always guaranteed to be delicious at a very reasonable price. We had venison pate which was dry and course, almost like dog food. Pork and coriander burger was dry and tasteless. Very very disappointing. Something has changed in the last few years (perhaps a new chef or just bad management). We will certainly not be making the journey back.

The recently renovated Kirkhouse Hotel is a fantastic place for a family Sunday lunch. Both the restaurant and bar are very tastefully decorated in muted shades of heather and soft green tartan and tweed. The food is freshly prepared and beautifully presented by friendly staff. Kirkhouse Inn, Strathblane - 14 March 2015We reviewed The Kirkhouse Inn on 1st of March. At that time we had a really good experience with some friends over lunch. On the strength of that experience we booked a table for lunch with a very special friend to celebrate her very special birthday. Imagine our disappointment/embarrassment/annoyance when we arrived to find the way into the restaurant blocked by a painters‘ ladder. No painter, just a ladder and a protective sheet on the floor. The restaurant tables were all set. There was no one in the foyer to guide us and no explanation or information. Eventually we found ourselves at a table in the midst of the busy bar area. Without a hint of regret the waitress told me the restaurant was getting ‘touched up’ here and there. Why it could not be done out of business hours I do not understand. Never mind, we thought, sometimes you can have a bad start and then a good finish - and this was a celebration lunch after all. Alas it was not to be. Things just got worse. Our drinks were served after which we spent some time discussing the menu choices. It was only when we were finally invited to place our order that the waitress informed our friend that the fish was off. Then my pork was off and my wife’s pork escalope was off. The waitress gestured in the direction of today’s specials and pointed out a further number of dishes unavailable! but still written on the blackboard. If you check the menu (see pic) you will see the remaining choice was a bit limited.I enjoyed my Seafood Chowder (the only first choice dish available) and the others enjoyed their Soup of the Day, Leek and potato. For main dishes two of us settled for Grilled Scottish Gammon Steak with Tomato, Mushrooms Steak Chips and Fried Free Range Egg. It was tender and the egg was done to a turn. The others chose Toscana Vegetable Lasagne with Garlic Bread which was very tasty but not a first choice! We skipped dessert and coffee deciding rather to return home feeling thoroughly let down by the Kirkhouse Inn.To put this in context. I wrote a very positive review after our previous visit. That review has now been withdrawn. I cannot, in all conscience recommend a restaurant which is sometimes good and sometimes horrendous, as in the case of our most recent experience. Will we return? At this time, probably not.

Went to a dinner dance here on Saturday night to see a band. Food mediocre, service sultry but management down right appalling. At the end end of the night while many people were still finishing their drinks the "drunk" manager refused to pay the band the agreed fee instead insulting them when in fact they had been the best thing about the whole night. How this place is still going I'll never know. Won't be back and would advise others to think twice. Disgusting on every level.

Visited Kirkhouse Inn for lunch. Was a bit disappointed. Food is a bit overpriced for what you get although soup and pate were lovely but not really value for money. Fish for main which consisted of one very large fish but far to much batter which spoiled the taste, extremely poor portion of chips. Macaroni far too creamy and again would have been nice with a small salad on the side along with the two tiny portions of garlic bread.Would have liked to have had somewhere nice to sit after lunch ie a lounge area as it was; arrive, eat and go so not as relaxing as I would have like.On a positive note the hotel decor is lovely and the staff were very nice, but some tweaks on the menu required given the prices being charged.

Have never written a review before, however, after experiencing an evening at this hotel felt compelled to put pen to paper so to speak. Sadly, although it is tastefully decorated and food to an okay standard, some of the customers left a bit to be desired. My wife and I were really quite shocked at the language and what could only be described as "questionable" smoking at the entrance to the property. Upon enquiring if they were guests, were advised that no they were local patrons and as the evening wore on this became more apparent. Locals seem to have the run of the place with no intervention from the staff, even when it became apparent that other guests were uncomfortable. Access to the property should you be disabled can be difficult due to the car left parked in front of the main entrance, even though there is a substantial car park provided. However this turned out to be the "care taker" managers sons, so no further explanation required there then!!Will not be returning and would not recommend to anyone.

Last Saturday evening (6th December '14) was the pre-opening night of the refurbished Kirkhouse Inn Restaurant. We were welcomed into the soft green and lavender restaurant by a smart waitress who showed us to our table without delay. The carpets throughout the public areas are a 'bespoke' tartan of soft green and lavender commissioned for the hotel ...... absolutely beautiful! Carefully chosen curtains tone in perfectly as do the cool green walls (these could do with being a warmer shade actually). The large thistle print wallpaper runs throughout the public areas too - quite dramatic! The cutlery is beautiful, brand new and feels very good quality. Absolutely gleaming :-). The glassware was elegant and fine rimmed, perfect for an expensive wine and good quality linen tablecloths and napkins just add to the luxury feel they are striving for. The menu was to die for, all five of us were struggling to choose as everything sounded so appealing. The meal went well, the food was excellent, the wine list was nicely varied, (something for everyone) and the staff were attentive without being annoying. Quite nice music in the background however it is a big dining room and did lack a bit of atmosphere as it wasn't very busy. Maybe dividing the area up a bit would work better? Lovely big open (gas) fires in the reception hall, lounge bar and restaurant add to the cozy atmosphere.Very reasonably priced for the quality of food, much of which is locally sourced. Good sized portions too, my scallops were enormous!A much anticipated change for the Hotel and very 'Highland Classy' look. I understand that the bedrooms are next on their hit list! This will become a very desirable place to stay if the bedrooms end up as elegant and classy as the restaurant. I loved it!The staff are such an important 'face' of the Hotel, I found them friendly and efficient but they didn't go overboard with the smiles ..... lighten up guys!I look forward to returning soon hopefully.

I was in the other day with a large group and although the one barman coped well, the cost of drinks is ridiculous. I ordered a soda water and lime, cost £1.90. A friend ordered a half pint of cider, cost £1.50. Surely non drinkers or folk driving should be encouraged by the offer of cheaper drinks. And I would have thought that soda water and lime is cheaper to buy from suppliers than cider. The foyer looked nice but the bar area was a bit shabby

Having been here plenty times in the past and had a fantastic experience, I had no hesitation on booking a Father's Day meal here.On arrival we were shipped from the restaurant to the bar and back again as no members of staff knew where to seat us, despite it being virtually empty. The waitress in the restaurant couldn't have been less welcoming. There was a poor selection of food left we were told. This was not a great start. When we got our food it was revolting, roast beef was more fat and chewy bits than meat, the veg had been reheated so many times it was inedible. There was a smell in the restaurant itself that wasn't pleasant. There were more light bulbs out than working ones, the place was filthy. The chalk board outside stated that dads would eat free on Father's Day...... Alas this was not the case. On the whole it was overpriced and absolutely not worth paying a penny for. Immediately had to change table to escape from loudspeaker broadcasting horse racing right above our heads, making conversation impossible. The place was filthy. As it was a beautiful day, the sun showed up the dirty windows on which someone had written. The carpet was covered in bits of food, crumbs & oose. I was able to write in the dust on the window sill. We were last here five years ago for our Directors night out, and were surprised to find that when we arrived there were very few people in the restaurant. However 10 of us duly made our way into the bar (which was quite busy) and I ordered drinks which were delivered straightaway (always a good start). Our table was booked for 7.30 and we made our way in on time and were warmly welcomed by the staff. Orders were taken and albeit it was a limited Christmas Menu there was sufficient choice of starters mains and puddings for everyone.Serving ten of us was going to be a real test for them but the starters arrived promptly, all together and no one had to wait. After finishing them there was a small pause until the main courses arrived again all together piping hot and well prepared. Dessert followed the same pattern and not one person complained about any aspect of the meal. We retired to the bar until 10.30 were we had a nightcap (or two) and was pleasantly surprised when handed the bill for the whole evening for ten of us including drinks at a few pence over £300.00.Excellent value for money, very good service well done all.

The food wasn't bad, though overpriced, and our main courses were slightly on the bland side. We were going to order coffee and desserts however we were left sitting with dirty plates and nobody came to serve us. My husband ended up going up to the bar to order and waited under 5 minutes before eventually being served by a member of staff who was halfway through serving someone else and couldn't have looked any more disinterested if she tried. This place has the potential to be a warm and welcoming restaurant, it is in a beautiful location, the restaurant itself has a welcoming atmosphere if only the staff would cheer up a bit and act like they want to be there.

Booked this for my mothers birthday and was embarrassed I had. The staff couldn't have been less interested and the amount of food was terrible. I had phoned earlier in the week to say that my original booking for two would have to be three as I needed to bring my son and was told it wouldn't be a problem. When we turned up however the lady said she hadn't been told and wasn't happy, despite there being only two other tables in the whole room occupied. When we sat down I was asked if 'he' wanted something to eat as well. No offer of a menu or anything. We ordered a childs macaroni for him which was pretty much cold, I didn't see the point in complaining though. We won't be back.

After a space of a few years returned for bar meal - which only can be described as awful - food very poor / basic and over priced . Overall feel of hotel was not good - not the high quality establishment of previous . Managment have a great deal of work to do if they expect to see people returning . Def would not go back or recommend

The Kirkhouse used to be THE place to go in the Blane Valley. Great staff, splendid food and a superb atmosphere. Now it's all about sticky, dirty carpets, staff who appear not to have had a day's training in their lives, disgracefully smelly toilets and prices that would be acceptable in a top hotel. But not here. Whoever is managing this former jewel in the local hospitality crown clearly hasn't a clue, because the staff attitude we experienced was unwelcoming, over familiar, verging on downright rude. It's a shame becaus it has a prime location in an area where people love to go and is a venue thT should be buzzing. The fact that it was virtually empty on a Bank Holiday Monday afternoon really does tell its own sorry tale.

Visited with brother who was visiting area from England with a view to a yarn, a jar and dinner. "Welcome" involved being rushed away from chosen bar and foisted into area so we could see "the football" with which we had no interest. Tired decor in area dominated by pool table. Overpriced half pint and glass of wine served by overfamiliar young barman. (Bless, he might have been trying too hard.). The final straw involved visiting the gents which was overwhelmingly stench ridden with stale urine. Perfect location at foot of Campsie fells but please avoid this

Having lived in the village for longer than I care to remember, and remembering 'The Old Kirkhouse' when the locals all frequented the bar to catch up, play pool, darts, quiz nights, music and a bit of food too, the atmosphere has long gone. Not entirely the fault of the current management as they can only work with the tools they are given, but 'Attention to detail' both in service and presentation would go a long way to improving the place.I have eaten here several times and have had different experiences each time. Very inconsistent. Staff at times almost appear 'disturbed' that they have customers to serve. Never extremely busy so service and appearance should be excellent. I have pointed out at least on a couple of visits that the flower tubs at the entrance (weed tubs) are full of cigarette butts. Guess what. They are still the same. The outside looks tired. The staff need a bit of 'oomph' and the atmosphere.... Well it needs some.... Locals are your bread and butter. Give them what they need. Not exactly a small village. This place should be heaving.....

My wife and i had a wonderful experience at this restaurant exactly one year ago so thought we would revisit with friends. Since it has re-opened and changed hands the whole "feel of the place" has changed quite a lot in my opinion. The food was OK but the service was VERY slow and the servers don't appear to really have their heart in it. I would think twice about returning now and that's a shame.

On previous occasions we have enjoyed our visit. Things have gone from bad to worse at our recent lunch. From a pretty basic menu we selected battered fish and scampi. The result was pretty poor with the fish not being cooked long enough as the batter was soggy and left at the side of the plate. The scampi was the other extreme with the casing like a walnut shell that encased a very small and dried out a tiny prawn. The chips with both dishes were dreadful and not freshly cooked and must have been left on the hotplate drying out in the meantime. The only saving grace was the service from the young man looking after us. We will not be back.

My husband and I dined here not long after it re-opened and raved about the food, presentation and service so we returned recently. What a disappointment! 1) Firstly there was a special offer of 2for 1 main courses after 5pm. Having enjoyed the lasagne on our first visit I was disappointed to discover it had been removed from the menu.. My husband opted for the mixed grill which had been outstanding the first time we were there. We were then informed that the 2for1 offer did not include steaks or the mixed grill after placing our order, no mention of this on the banner outside. 2) ordered a diet Irn Bru, waitress brought a Diet Coke3) were told the ice was on its way-did get it eventually 4) mixed grill was badly presented, everything dumped on the plate, no pork sausage as described on the menu and a rubbery fried egg which was stuck to the plate5)asked for pouring cream with my crumble instead of ice cream. What did I get? Yes, you've guessed it- ice cream!6) there were quite a lot of children ( I have no objection to children- I used to be one myself!) There were a lot of crumbs and bits of food left on the floor when a family departed but the staff walked round and even through the debris! Could it not have been swept up?7) the young waiters seemed to wander round the tables carrying plates, not knowing where they were supposed to beThere did not appear to be anyone in charge of the restaurant, We feel the restaurant would have benefited from having a restaurant manager guiding and training the waiters. The hotel got off to a flying start under the new management but has gone downhill very quickly. We will not be back.We would welcome a response from the owners.

Went there on a Glasgow's 'Todays Great Deal' for dinner. We had a limited choice for mains, I chose chicken which was tasty but not a lot of food on the plate. The wine was served in a chipped glass which I returned to the bar. Barman was very apologetic and polite. We decided to have dessert (don't normally have 2 courses but didn't have much in the main meal). I chose the chocolate tart and I would go back just for that dessert as it was awesome. The best thing about the meal!

Sadly i had for the first time in many years had to stand up and leave this establishments restaurant. The reason ? We visited a few weeks ago, ordered drinks, were about to order lunch then witnessed the staff being subjected to a torrent of verbal abuse by someone behind the bar. The were screamed and sworn at in a despicable manner. I asked at reception to speak to the manager as myself and several other elderly guests were clearly upset. The fellow behind the reception claimed to be the manager but done nothing..............Never be back ! In my opinion this was a border line police matter !

Only went for lunch with my wife, however I was expecting more than what we actually got. Afterall, it is owned by the Strathblane Country House Hotel which I have eaten in and it was very nice. From the outside this hotel/restaurant looks lovely but as soon as you walk in the decor is quite outdated. the cozy atmosphere in the bar area was nice though. The food was basic with a menu that does not really give you a lot of choice. When the food arrived I was even more disappointed, not tasty and the presentation was awful. This accompanied by staff with a "can't be bothered" attitude didn't bode too well.I don't think I will be returning.

Our friends invited us out for dinner and so we accepted. They had some group-on coupons. On the agreed night, we picked them up in our car and off we went to the Kirkhouse Inn in Strathblane. I have passed this place hundreds of times and never thought of stopping. Strathblane is a really nice village, just north west of Glasgow beyond Milngavie. It's the place you'd drive through on the way to somewhere else and think, "Oh, it's nice here!" Well, next time you do that - STOP. Visit the Kirkhouse Inn.A big spacious restaurant (also a hotel) with very tasteful decor and great ambiance. We were shown to a nice table and the staff were very attentive and polite but not pushy and we we ordered some drinks. The starter I had was Haggis Fritters, which come with a dip and they were delicious. Honestly the best haggis I ever tasted. I thought I had hit the high point of the evening, but when the main course arrived I was proved wrong. 'Sustainable' Fish, Chips and Peas. I had a joke or two with the waiter over the 'sustainable' part of the title. However, this dish, however basic it sounds - was really nice. Done to perfection.Price wise, if we didn't have the groupon coupon I estimate we would have paid about £22 per head for 3 courses and a drink. Well worth it in any case. Will definitely go again. A nice drive out into the country and a hearty meal.

We went for lunch a week ago as we were in the area and heard it was under new ownership.First impressions were not great - the new owner certainly hasnt spent any time or effort refurbishing the place - the tartan carpet and kitsch (not in a good way!) gold panelled ceiling together with bizarre seat covering really has to be seem to be believed - I cant imagine the decor ever looking good even when new!Service was ok, coffee was average but i must say the burger was a pleasant surprise - tender, and juicy though the miserly portion of chips alongside wasn't great - particularly at the prices they charge!Atmosphere was also odd - only another two tables sitting and the good music was interrupted with the sounds of pool balls in the background - the restaurant has an open bar at the back with a pool table and locals drinking etc so you can hear everything - jut about ok on a Sunday afternoon, I dread to think what it sounds like on a Saturday night - not ideal for a restaurant setting!Overall distinctly average and definitely over-priced, hopefully the new owners will put some time and effort into a decent refurbishment and change of layout otherwise I fear the 'Kirky' may not survive.

Stopped here for lunch as a party of 4 adults and 1 child on a bank holiday. First thing we noticed was that they had a sign saying that they couldn't take card payments. Restaurant was empty so we went into the bar/bistro. Before ordering we asked if we could order one meal not on the bar menu and were told that was fine but when the same waiter took our order, we were told we couldn't. It was for a 4 year old who didn't want anything else so we would have even sat down had we known. The TV was on throughout lunch though no-one was watching it. Staff were ok but not overly enthusiastic or keen to be helpful. Food was overpriced for what we got and there were no vegetarian main meals available. We distinctly got the impression that staff were unconcerned whether we enjoyed our visit or not. I doubt we'd stop there again.

It is our local restaurant and after renovation work was done we decided to go in and test it out, our previous visit was horrific! This one wasn't much better. We came at lunch time on a Saturday - there were 2 other tables in, overheard both mumbling their disappointment also. Draught Cola had to be returned as it tasted of tcp. Ordered baked potato with Tuna and an egg sandwich from a basic 'bistro menu' in a brothel styled room - as far from looking and having the atmosphere of a coffee shop/cafe as my first jobby but never the less service was fine - not the cheeriest staff but that doesn't bother me, after they'd been to the field to harvest the potato, caught the tuna, baked the bread and asked a hen to lay them an egg wee eventually got our lunch. Nicely presented on online plates with a lovely salad dressing but the bread for the sandwiches was stiff as if it had been sitting out for the time the tattie took to be prepared but since we'd mumped about the yucky cola we felt embarrassed to them gripe about the bread and serving time so we pushed it around the plate and paid the nigh on £20 for a very below average lunch. We wanted to pay by card but those facilities weren't in yet so the receptionist had to call up their sister hotel to use there card facilities over-the-phone! - am sure however this wee blip has been rectified by now.Sadly we'll prob not be back nor recommend it.

Have been there to eat on a few occasions and they charge 5-star prices for food that is OK, in an atmosphere that isn't especially "comfortable". At the moment there are renovations going on and I have heard through the grapevine that there is a change of ownership/management. If so, I hope the new owners/managers try to make it more of a middle-of-the road (in terms of value and service) establishment. We don't do "posh" and "expensive" in Blanefield.

Stayed for an overnight on the way back to Glasgow. The evening before we were told there were grilled sandwiches available all day. Returning for breakfast at 9.15am we were then told that only coffee was available. We purchased this £3 for a cold coffee from a flask with a disgusting spoon that had clearly been sitting for hours. When I asked for a clean one and commented I was told I could get my money back in a very aggressive manner. Knowing that there was nothing else in the area I felt very intimidated as I was with a group of females the man clearly had an issue. Then going for a shower to experience faeces up the walls on the main floor and toilets that couldn’t be used. I would not recommend!! The staff on the previous evening were great and having been many times before with other friends and family. This place has clearly been taken over and went right down hill!! If you want a relaxing break away AVOID !! Many other amazing places in the area that accommodate a lot better. Definitely not recommended for females only.

A self serve café within the grounds of Stirling Castle, offering takeaway or sit-in opportunities. There are plenty of snack options, including a Kid’s Box at £6 which provides a choice of sandwiches, a treat, a piece of fruit and a drink. There are plenty of sandwiches and paninis for adults too and several hot dishes to choose from on display. In our experience there were plenty of staff on duty and the constant queue at the time was kept moving fairly quickly. We found a table in an area with vaulted ceilings, reminiscent of the Castle Kitchens, which added to the ambiance. The grandchildren had Kid’s Boxes, my wife and I had paninis which had tasty fillings, and we also had Americano coffees. The coffee was good enough to warrant a second cup for my wife and I along with a slice of lemon drizzle cake and a scone with cream and jam. All the food and drinks were good and the overall cost was just under £49 allowing for 10% discount as members of Historic Scotland. Toilets were clean but very compact for the size of the premises.
