Celebrating a milestone birthday we chose the Rose Revived as a nice location to eat and share in the company of family and friends. We were not disappointed the pub/restaurant is clean and has a lovely welcoming atmosphere and Fiona and the team were attentive and friendly throughout our visit. The selection of drinks on offer is as you would expect and served in some lovely glassware as opposed to your more usual glasses. Water for the table and the freedom to decorate also added to the occasion and ambience. Each and every course was delicious and the portions were more than ample for the price, every single one of us was content and full. Thank you again to Fiona and the team for making us feel so welcome what a wonderful evening in a very pleasant setting.

lovely pub in a beautiful setting right by the river Thames. Such a shame that the food on offer did not match the rest of the experience. There were 4 of us and we ate the pies on offer at the time. The chicken, leek and cheese was not very good, the top was puff pastry or had been at one time and the bottom was soggy where the small amount of filling had seeped into it, this was accompanied by withered pieces of asparagus and some inedible radish together with a selection of chips which were either overcooked or undercooked. It could and should have been a nice meal. The other pie on offer was very overcooked but the vegetables accompanying it were edible. the beer I would have like had run out and the Italian lager on tap was watery and nothing like the offering normally in bottles. The female servers were pleasant enough. not good enough for the price charged.

Definitely not the best lunch… we order 2x garlic mushrooms, steak sandwich and chicken bacon sandwich. Definitely using rations here and can’t seem to have fresh food for lunch customers. I couldn’t cut my mushroom with a butter knife it was so hard! And my sourdough was baldy burnt (all black on one side) , the side they obviously didn’t have showing on the plate. This was the same for the other mushroom dish. The sandwiches had 3 scraggly bits of steak meant to be medium rare but tough as old boots. And one small streak of bacon in the other. Could have got more filling from a Tesco meal deal sandwich! Wouldn't waste money here again - service was non existent. Hygiene shocking!!! Had to replace 3x glasses due to old food stuck on them. I understand outside it’s hard to keep clean under the trees but bird poo was just everywhere on tables on chairs. They all could do with a wipe each morning. I had to clean my table with hand sanitizer and tissue as no one was in sight the dirt that came off it was appalling! Will go over the road next time :)

Where do I start! The food for 2 of the dinners was OK. Now for the reason for the poor score, the staff looked scruffy, not all of them but enough to create a poor impression. My main was supposed to a special but it was burnt and sent back. I was told a new one was 5/6 minutes away but it took over 15 minutes to arrive. The overall offering was poor, 2 bullets of Leek sitting on dry bubble &squeak with a piece of bacon. The menu doesn’t offer any mixed vegetables as a side. At no point did a manager bother to come an apologise. We won’t be tempted by Chef & Brewer anytime soon.

The lovely riverside location and the tempting menu promised so much, but was so disappointing. Firstly the advertised rose wine was not available, then after a long wait the mains were not as described. My companion's pork belly "marmalade glazed" with a side of "buttery mash and charred hispi cabbage and herb roasted carrots" was a small overcooked pork chop with a teaspoon of mash and a couple of broccoli spears...no cabbage, no carrots. I particularly wanted asparagus, so I ordered the hake, but it arrived with 4 broccoli spears and no asparagus at all. Staff were ridiculously overstretched, so when we tried to complain they were unable or unwilling to do anything further than a rushed apology. The whole experience was really disappointing, I wish we had gone to a less glamorous nearby establishment.

A beautiful place with the river and outdoor seating however, when food arrived there was plastic in his food and his starter did not come! When he spoke to staff they swore and walked off! Went for lunch today - or at least tried to. Hoped to order off the main menu and eat in the garden but that’s not allowed. Apparently only eating on the patio is an option, even offered to collect my food from the patio and walk it the 5m to the grass but this wasn’t allowed either because “everyone around you will want food and they can’t cope with the demand”. Ended up with a packet of crisps, which can be eaten on the grass thankfully. Never heard anything so ridiculous and no wonder this place only has 3 stars!!!

went on a dog walk and decided to stop at the rose for a couple of drinks and some food. We've been here before, the food and service has improved beyond a doubt. We were met by a friendly lady who attended to our needs, said we can eat inside or out so we chose outside as it was such a nice day. We ordered steak baguette with chips which was very good. The waiter who brought our food to the table turned out to be the manager, Lewis, he was very friendly and really enthusiastic in regards to customer service. We also spoke to two other members of staff who were busy clearing tables but found the time to have quick chat about the local area. It was such a refreshing experience to find such good service.

Lovely pub, fantastic staff, reasonable prices, unfortunately average food. I ordered the Squid starter, served with Garlic and Lemon mayonnaise. This was edible but chewy and the dish would benefit from some attention to detail and presentation. This was followed with the Marmalade Glazed Belly Pork, which was well cooked but let down by the vegetables served with the dish. Overcooked and sad looking carrots, and the oddest Hispi cabbage I have ever had. Raw cabbage that had been blow torched to scorch the outside. Blanche/Refresh and dry the cabbage before scorching please. And again more attention to detail and presentation.

The staff were lovely, the ale was fine but the food was shameful - everything wrong with English cooking in a single sitting. Cheap burger, tossed in a bun, smothered in a blunt, hyper sweet sauce to cover its cheapness, and the some frozen chips and onion rings carelessly bunged on a plate. If it cost a fiver fine but it was £15.99. Outrageous. If you're stopping for a beer, fine, if you want to eat probably better off stopping at the M&S food at the garage down the road.

Decided to pop in for lunch on our way past, hoping to get a table overlooking the river. As we hadn't booked (it was less than half full), we were told we had to sit in the bar area with bar service only. We thought this was fair enough, but then all parties who came in after us were offered restaurant or bar area, even though they hadn't booked either. Even the ones with a dog were allowed to sit in the restaurant area and get table service. Service at the bar was incredibly slow, even to get a glass of water, I had 3 different people say "someone will be with you shortly". The food was quite nice so we may return but only if we can sit in the restaurant area where we might be entitled to better service!

Absolutely awful experience. There were 3 of us, ordered starters which came out after 45 minutes so quite a wait but didn’t mind. After this, we waited for 1.5 hrs for our mains, asked a few times where our food was but got the same answer each time “it is getting plated up” but still didn’t arrive for ages. When food did come out 2 plates out of 3 were stone cold. The vegetables were still raw. Couldn’t put the fork through the roast potatoes as was over cooked and rock hard. Told manager he refused to take back to kitchen to remake but did take them off the bill. Drinks were again poor service. Waited up to an hour for 2 drinks which were 2 fantas. Asked for a jug of tap water, which never came. When asked , apparently it was being made but never came. Really disappointed, been here several times with family a few years back and always had a great experience but really disappointed with this experience and would never go back again! Jake the waiter was lovely! I think the only good part of our experience!

Booking.com have been very helpful, but can't issue the refunds until The Rose Revived confirm they cancelled the bookings. Unfortunately, The Rose Revived have ignored all correspondence from Booking.com and myself. So, here I am, nearly a month later over £300 owed to me and no further forward. It is what it is and doesn’t pretend to be anything that it is not. After all it is part of a chain the ‘Chef & Brewer’. Service good (first lady anyway as 2nd lady, I think, was more interested in focusing on other things and really never made any attempt to interact. Not rude but just not ‘friendly’). And Food was OK as I say nothing special lots of fried food. Maybe getting pricier now though as my Squid starter was £7+ (and not much at all for it) and the Fish & Chips was £16, which in itself isn’t over the top, but it again wasn’t what I would consider £16 worth. Conversely the Sea Bass was good.

Struggling to find the words after experiencing the rudest waiting service I have ever come across. Three roast dinners, all very bland and served pretty cold. Roast potatoes more like boiled potatoes, cold rock hard Yorkshire pudding, a dribble of gravy and the only veg available were peas. Asked to speak to manager, waiter shrugged and said dunno where he is. Waiter explained they’d run out of all veg apart from peas, so we asked if they’d give us a cauliflower cheese instead and he said yeh if you pay extra for it. Like dealing with a sulky teenager, and when I asked for a tea spoon for my son he walked past and threw it on to the table. Eventually did get to speak to the manager who handled our complaint well and did deduct two meals off our bill plus giving us complimentary puddings. Local regular customers who won’t be coming back

We stayed for two nights as we needed a nice getaway . The pub is very well decorated and the location is beautiful. We booked a Room with a view , it was tastefully decorated and well equipped with an iron hairdryer & a smart tv , however, we found that our mattress was really uncomfortable and the pillow's very hard so we had two poor nights sleep. We also found that there was a strong odour coming from the shower drain which was really quite unpleasant in the room , we could smell it throughout the landing on approach to our room so presume it’s an issue throughout the rooms . Bathrooms very small and needs some work around the shower seals which were mouldy. The bar and restaurant are lovely with big open fires , good selection of drinks , however on both nights the music was switched off at 10pm and we were asked to leave at 10:30 staff said they were closing ! we were surprised as it’s advertised that they close at 11pm and as we had paid to stay for the weekend we didn't really want to be rushed out the bar back to our room. We got the feeling it was that the staff wanted to go home early. Water in the room was rebottled tap water , would prefer sealed bottled water , as the bar shut early and there isn’t anywhere to get a cold drink afterwards you need to go prepared . We would definitely visit the pub again but unlikely we would stay over . We paid £276 for two nights with breakfast included ,booked directly via the hotels website , however we have seen that it’s actually £25 cheaper to book via booking.com .

We came here 2 years ago for Boxing Day lunch and it was really nice. Unfortunately, this year it was different. It has been done up in that time, so the interiors were lovely, it had a nice cosy atmosphere. However, sadly, the food was quite average. One of the starters we ordered was supposed to be ham & chicken terrine on sourdough with a fig and pear chutney and crispy onions. It wasn’t on sourdough bread, and it had onion chutney. Not quite sure what happened to the translation. The Turkey with the lunch was cooked to perfection, but was probably the only nice thing about the entire meal. The veg was very mediocre, broccoli was hard and the potatoes were barely cooked. I’d expect roasties on a Christmas dinner to be crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Also would advise pre-booking your food choices - we were told by the staff when we booked in person that we didn’t need to do this, however, they somehow had no parsnips and no beef when we wanted to order, which I’m assuming this is because we hadn’t pre chosen our food. Another issue is that when you try to book on the phone you don’t get through to anyone - so don’t bother. It’s a shame, because other visits have been nice.

My wife's food was just about passable, but mine looked like it had been thrown together without any care or attention, slightly undercooked with potatoes that were likely a couple of days old and thrown in the microwave and a side of very stale bread (which we were charged £1 for). Our waitress gave the impression that she didn't want to be there, and every member of staff walked around with faces like thunder, which made the atmosphere feel very frosty indeed. After we finished our food, we honestly couldn't wait to get out of there and go home. Once our favourite place to go, unfortunately we'll never go again. My wife's birthday meal was ruined, and I feel cheated that I had to pay hard earned money for poor food and even worse service.

My girlfriend and I visited the Rose Revived on a Sunday lunch after an organised drive with our local car club. The surrounding are very pleasant with the river next to the pub and the sun was shinning which added for a potentially nice lunch. The inside of the pub is very nicely decorated and welcoming. I had booked a table in advance, the man welcoming us to check our booking wasn't exactly welcoming, not a smile and somewhat abrupt manners didn't make for a good start of our lunch. After being shown to our table, the waitress, who was very friendly and engaging, arrived promptly and took our order, triple carvery for me and roast beef for my girlfriend. The food arrived fairly rapidly, which isn't always a good sign. I can't say that I was overly impressed with it. Although the meat was nice and tender, I can't say the same about the vegetables and potatoes. The supposedly maple syrup roasted carrots and parsnips were soft and tasteless, I couldn't taste the maple syrup, there wasn't much of it, one quarter of a small parsnip and about four or five small quarters of carrots. The potatoes were supposed to be roasted in duck fat with garlic and rosemary but again they were soft and barely roasted, they looked very pale, as for the duck fat, garlic and rosemary, the chef must have used the tiniest amount of it as I couldn't taste them. These are strong flavours but inexistant on that day. Everything looked like they had been microwaved. The Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese were nice. Gravy made of granules I suspect. I have been in the catering trade as a chef for thirty years and served a lot of carvery so I have insight in how to cook a good one. I don't think that I would have lunch there again soon I'm afraid!

We went on a lovely Sunny lunch time for lunch so as to sit outside by the river. The area was shut off due to lorries. We parked and went inside and as there were a few tables available by the main door we asked to sit and have are lunch outside. We were told we had to sit inside to eat but could have a drink outside. I am now aware that the pub is closing on 9th May until 9th June for a refurb. So disappointing as also shut for Jubilee weekend.

Stayed here for a couple of nights with friends, very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast and dinner very good and service is excellent. Had various meals, Salmon Florentine, Cod & chips, pies, great selections. Desserts were too nice. Breakfast again plenty of choice and nothing is too much trouble if you have dietary needs. Thank you to all the staff for a lovely welcoming stay. Rooms 1 & 2 very comfortable and all you needed. Very picturesque with the Thames flowing at the back. Will be back.

My husband and I recently moved to our retirement home in Kingston Bagpuize village, and decided to take the time to visit all the local spots for what my husband refers to as a 'proper pub lunch'. High up on our list were both the Maybush and the Rose Revived, either side of a gorgeous old bridge on the Thames. We had passed by the pub before when walking along the Thames Path, but missed the opportunity to pop in. We are yet to visit the Maybush but we made it to the Rose Revived on Monday lunchtime and left very impressed. The manager who greeted us at the door, Adam, was perfectly charming, as was the young man who served us at our table, Theodore. My husband and I can admittedly be quite tricky customers due to dietary restrictions but the staff made a great effort to accommodate us and we felt very comfortable. The food was fairly good, nothing spectacular but we couldn't have expected much more for the price. We're very glad to have a good pub in such a lovely location nearby and will certainly be returning soon.

We didn’t want a big wedding with lots of guests. We were looking for an location with a nice setting and a relaxing atmosphere. We have visited The Rose Revived over a number of years and it was at the top of our list. From making the the initial booking - for 16 guests - to the meal on the day the service was amazing. The menu and quality of the food was superb with a good choice. My wife and I are both vegetarians as were a number of our guests. The Vegan and Vegetarian choices were the best we have seen.Evie looked after us exceptionally well and made the day for us.

We have been patrons of The Rose Revived for more than ten years. For any occasion that merits a family get together there's no better venue. Great value, fantastic menu and, usually, fabulous service.I say usually. This evenings visit, however, has prompted me to revise my opinion. Outstanding, would be a more suitable description of the attention we were afforded by a very special yoing lady. Jo made us feel as if our family group of 10, including our 5 and 6 year old grandsons, were her very reason for being. Courteous, polite and infectiously cheerfully pleasant, she looked after our table with able and easy professionalism. Ensuring our evenings repast progressed smoothly, monitoring our drinks and keeling abreast of our enjoyment of the wonderful fare, rarely have we felt so unhurriedly pampered. Thank you to the team at the Rose Revised for our great evening, but most of all for the brilliant ambassador that is Jo. She is a star of the brightest kind.Patrick and Julie Smith

Me and my girlfriend visited The Rose Revived for dinner on a date night. I’ll start on a high. We’ve been to this pub a few times before, beautiful location, cosy environment, and good food. However, on this occasion I was very disappointed. We ordered our starters and there was no problems there, same can’t be said for the mains. I ordered a steak, when the steak arrived it was very grey, and looked as if the pan hadn’t been hot enough before the chef attempted to cook it. It was very chewy and tough and not what I’d expect from a pub which had previously provided nice and well cooked food. My girlfriend’s food was a different story. The goats cheese tart was horribly bland, and was a poor attempt at a vegetarian main. Under these circumstances I would not of returned any food; I’m not one to return often. As she got through it, she encountered a part of the ‘tart’ (around 1/3 of it) that was too hard to cut through, I attempted and likewise it was too tough. A waitress came over and asked how the food was, I demonstrated how tough the tart was on one side. When I pressed the knife in, with a fair amount of force, nothing happened. I then lifted the knife up, the tart came up with it. After I asked the waitress, who in fairness was very friendly and attentive, if we could send it back, she obliged. A few minutes later, one of the ‘chefs’ came out the kitchen, started directly at us, and promptly walked back in. I’m writing this review because if a chef can’t understand why I’d send food back when a hacksaw was needed, he should of either provided an appropriate tool to eat with, or accepted a mistake and not give us a dirty look when we were waiting for the bill, and then again when we were exiting. In conclusion, the staff were very nice and friendly (with exception to the chef) and we were happy and enjoyed our starters. We will not be eating here again for a while.

I’ve not been into The Rose Revived for a little while & was looking forward to my recent visit with familyWe’d booked a table & were quickly shown to it. Not particularly friendly staff but not unfriendly either, got the impression just doing their job & perhaps not that happy (who knows maybe just a bad day) Starters of pate & grilled halloumi were ok, but I would guess prepared elsewhere & warmed up. Main course of pie & chips was perfectly ok, however the sea bass & peas risotto was tasteless & had clearly been bought in prepared & re-cooked as the peas were the weirdest shade of green & sea bass was not nice. Greene King pub so probably understandable. A real shame.

Had a three night stay at the Bell loved it! I extended our stay by a night and couldn’t get the same room as our original booking not disappointed in any way. Our first night was in Teasel a lovely room plenty of room with a nice shower wash room. Nice big comfortable bed. Friday and Saturday night we stayed in the room Hazel it’s situated above the barn. Amazing room with great views across countryside. This room is big loads of space to chill after a busy day in the Cotswolds. A super king sized bed and lovely shower /bathroom (huge bath). We weren’t going to dine at the Bell but as we had booked the extra night decided to have evening meal and breakfast on our first night. Both meals were delicious so also booked for Friday evening again delicious. The staff at the Bell are all very friendly and helpful hard working as whatever we asked nothing was too much trouble whatsoever . Thanks to all at the Bell for making our first visit to the Cotswolds a very special experience. Richard and Keeli x

Following a family emergency, I rang to cancel my table and was charged £70 without my permission. They will say it's on the website, however it wasn't prominent enough for me to notice during the booking process. We had been before and found the food OK and the staff a little arrogant but wanted to try again as hoped it was an anomaly as the surroundings are lovely. There will not be a third time, I have been told by several people that this business makes a loss, that is hearsay and I can't confirm that but after this cynical charge, it would seem they have to make money at all costs.
