Possibly a bad night but the two portions of Lamb Tikka which arrived late were hated by both diners as it was rock hard and tough even when cut with difficulty Told when complaining that noone had ever complained before and it was perfect and as it should be. . .. what? Supposed to be inedible?this arrogance really annoyed us.If this was a first ever complaint a refund should have been offered not a denial and rudeness. I will not be trying them again Good reviews are their old reviews Some say it's gone downhill since then.

We went in and were attended to promptly and ordered drinks. When they arrived they were warm as though not refrigerated. Having experienced this we did not expect the meals to be very good. Happily we were wrong with all starters and main meals tasty and well cooked. I would have no problem visiting again but would not order drinks.

Ordered food online at 7.30pm and it arrived at 11pm. When I got to the restaurant before it closed to ask where it was I found the restaurant to be empty with 6 members of staff just standing around, staff purposefully not answering the phone having tried over 10x ourselves (some occasions they would pick the phone up and then just hang up) to then be told our food had just left. When I said that wasn't good enough and can I have a refund they did not want to know. No apology either, they just said it was a 'busy' night and we can have a discount if we ring through an order in the future. I don't know how that would work when they didn't take note of our order. Then when we sat down to eat it, it was full of chilli's and pretty much inedible (and I can handle a few chilli's normally) I don't think a pathia is supposed to be full of green chillies - certainly hasn't in any I've had before. So all in all a terrible experience and we won't be ordering again!

Decided to have a curry and called in here ,looks like it could do with some new decor. It was banquet night ,ordered our food which took quite a while .It was not busy so don’t no what the delay was.Food was okay but the tarka dal was boiling hot and more like soup was not impressed with it at all the rest was just mediocre. Also there was quite a few people walking into the kitchen which did not look like staff, thought that was not good and what is going on should not have every Tom dick and Harry in there.Used to be packed on Banquet nights but I think it’s lost it’s charm

Went for a meal here for the first time in a while and was very disappointed. It’s the little things that make eating out an enjoyable experience. The poppadoms looked out of a supermarket packet and one was only half sized, the food was ok but considering the restaurant was empty we were constantly being bothered by the waiting staff, we were told when we left that it was shutting early because it wasn’t busy so I guess we were in the way, if that’s the way paying customers are treated then I’m not surprised it was empty! Won’t be paying another visit.

I have known the Rose of Bengal for some years, but not visited for a long time. The place is smaller than it used to be, but it has a cosy atmosphere. Food is good and gets to you nuce and hot. Couple of issues: Firstly- I visited alone, but had to sit on a small table rather a larger one even though I was one only 3 people in the place! Waiter insisted even though I pointed out that I was hardly taking up a table that would be needed anytime soon. Secondly - no desserts at all! How can a well run restaurant run out of desserts? Not good. Worth a visit, but watch out if you go alone or want a pudding!

Our favourite Indian restaurant in Boston, always a warm and friendly welcome and good service. The delicious menu is very varied and as we like to try different dishes, this is no problem with so much on offer. The waiters offer good advice if asked. I wish they would revamp the very tired and rundown interior and warm the place up a bit. We usually go early evening, when Initially I keep my coat on until the place (or me) heats up. My biggest bugbear is the tough meat. Lamb dishes are one of my favourites but very hard going even with good strong teeth. Overall still good, but place needs a bit of a shake up to stay ahead of the very competitive Indian Restaurant stakes.

This place offers well cooked food. The only problem we have found is the speed of service seems somehow linked to the amount of (expensive) drinks that they encourage you to have while waiting for your food. We always have drinks from the bar and pay as we go along; and explain that we don't want lots of drink. The food is well spiced and not over coloured or sweetened. We eat here often and like the consistency.

The waiter was very polite, took our drink orders and bought us pappadoms while we looked through the menu. Our order was taken by a very nice man who was clearly not from this area, he has really good banter and made us feel very comfortable, most of the customers seemed to like and get on with him too. The food came out on time and was very tasty. Only one thing, there was an older man there who I think was the owner, he looked miserable and mumbled a few words to us which we did not understand at all. Overall the food and experience was good and will definitely go there again.

Stopped off here again for a Sunday lunch. Service was polite and courteous even though we had arrived before their opening time. Starters for both of us were a mixed platter of onion bhaji, shami kebab and lamb and chicken tikka. The bhaji was the best I have had but the shami kebab was more like a tasteless burger. The dishes generally lacked spice. The chicken hawalli and the chicken Achari were great and the rice was as good as it gets. However, today the batura yoghurt bread (my favourite) arrived rather oily - not necessary and unwelcome. The biggest disappointment is in the choice of drinks. No one in their right minds would want to drink wine with spicy Indian/Bangladeshi food so I checked the beer list. Only one 'draught' listed which turned out to be very fizzy keg - it might as well have come out of a bottle! It would not take a great deal of effort to keep a few widget cans on the bar shelf!

The Rose of Bengal is the only 'Indian' restaurant that I would use in Boston. It stands head and shoulders above others. Mixed starters were of good quality, if lacking a little 'heat'. Main course chicken pathia was a little disappointing. It was nowhere near as hot as one would have expected. The chicken was cut into rather large lumps and had clearly been cooked separately from the sauce (a common habit in 'Indian' restaurants). This resulted in tasteless chicken in a flavoursome sauce. The batura yoghurt bread was absolutely gorgeous and highly recommended - beats the pants off naans anytime. Service was pleasant and efficient. A message to the chef: 'How about cutting the meat up a little smaller and marinating it before cooking?'

We agreed as a family to go back to the Rose of Bengal Indian Restaurant, in West Street Boston, we are not aficionado's of Indian food but, this was our third or fourth visit in as many months, the reason we love the place so much is the very poilte and intelligent, super helpful staff and especially the manager, I unfortunately dont know his name, but he is so helpful. I find this place the best because you dont have to understand indian food, or the spices involved, as if you dont like your meal spicy you can ask them not to make it spicy, but tasty and they are only too willing to oblige. The staff are friendly, super helpful, full of ideas and tips, they are all so helpful. To me Indian foods have to be understood, and appreciated, so you have to know what to ask for, when you go to The Rose of Bengal, you dont have to be scared of asking, just ask what goes with what if you are confused, like us, or if you would like your meal spicy, but are scared it will blow your head off, ask, and they will suggest what will possibly suit you better, if you would like to explore and try different things, ask and explain, dont be afraid to ask, as there are other restaurants that people enjoy going to where you know what to ask for and know what you are getting, you know what you like, and are experienced, we are not and find it all a bit overwhelmingWe like to ask, we like to explain about what we would like, the Rose let you do that without feeling embarrased, if you would like your meal modified and more spicy or less spicy or what goes with what, and you dont know, ask and they are only to happy to help. We love going to explore, even though my parents are a bit more reserved, but een they had a great time and fabulous food and a great time, "exploring" and trying each others meals !!Please go, try and ask, you will enjoy, promise !!

Ordered a takeaway- delivery service good sadly the quality of food wasn’t. Both curries were ‘slop’, very little meat and hardly any taste . Quite honestly a supermarket curry meal deal is more value for money.
