Popped in over the Bank Holiday for a quick brunch. The hash browns with sticky beef was excellent, could have ordered it again. Also very good bloody Mary. Great spot if your a little hungover.

I had the best beef burger I’ve ever tasted at this spot in London perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with flavor. It was paired with a crisp an cheesy french fries, and a cold Asahi beer that hit just right. The vibe was great, but what really stood out was the service. the waitress, Sibira, was absolutely lovel attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was just right. Can’t recommend this place enough if you're craving a proper burger and good vibes. I’ll definitely be back! you guys will see me every week.

Sunday roast was exactly what a Sunday roast should be! Sticky toffee pudding is also a must. Service could be a little better, forgot our drink order but didn’t spoil the experience too much.

-Avoid the fish & chips on Sunday- I dined here on Sunday, April 6th, and as a local resident (Macaulay Road), I have always enjoyed visiting your restaurant a couple of times a year, particularly for your renowned fish and chips. I ordered the Ale Battered Haddock with Triple Cooked Chips, but I was disappointed to find that instead of a single, long fillet, I received two small portions that were likely scraps from a separate fillets. More breading than fish, this resulted in the fish being overcooked and dry, detracting from what used to be a delightful dish. When I brought this to the attention of the male manager, his response was simply, "I am sorry to hear that," which felt somewhat dismissive given my previous positive experiences at your restaurant. Later, when I mentioned my disappointment to a waitress, she seemed more understanding and suggested that the quality may have been affected because it was a Sunday and the kitchen was focused on Sunday roasts. While I appreciate her insight, this is not the kind of response a diner hopes to hear when encountering an issue with their meal.

Simply lovely! Only ever sat outside and it’s great - especially in the summer. They have heaters going undercover for the winter. Wednesday - Sunday evening in summer is packed outside for beers in the sun. Love it. Quote a nice food menu - recommend eggs with tattos and pulled pork YUMMO

We had my daughter's 21st at The Rose and Crown (for 18 people) in the lovely room upstairs. The team were fantastic throughout all the organisation through to the actual evening. We could fault nothing, food was delicious, they were very accommodating and made gluten free canapes and gluten free sauces for the steaks as we have some guests who had allergies. The room was lovely, very elegant, a brilliant venue, thank you to all the team

We held a party for 20 people in the upstairs room of the pub last week and it was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere and decorations were gorgeous and the service was wonderful - thank you so much to Alessandro for being such an amazing host with such incredible service, and to Chef Yolandie who created such a beautiful menu catering to our very specific dietary requirements! All of our guests were absolutely blown away by the food and the general ease of the whole evening.

I had a brunch with a friend on a Tuesday afternoon. All the meal we ordered were very good (hash brown & sticky beef, eggs royal) and the service was quick and very good. The girl who served us was very nice , polite and professional. Would recommend!

A pub that thinks it’s a Michelin restaurant. Unfriendly staff, and low rate beer varieties. No thanks.

Really wanted to love this place after reading the reviews. We went for Sunday roast - the beef was full of sinew and the Yorkshire pudding and veggies were burnt. Fish and chips was also terrible. The restaurant was so full, people kept bumping into us and waiters telling us to move our chairs in more. One waiter dropped a drink over my coat and about 4 glasses smashed while we were there. Felt like we were in a circus. We also got asked to leave our table for the next booking after an hour, even though the reservation clearly stated the booking was for 2 hours, this is after it took 10min for someone to find our table when we arrived. Wouldn’t recommend!

Friendly and attentive staff. Food was served quickly and was tasty. The roast beef was cooked medium, the veg was cooked perfectly and plentiful on the plate. Unfortunately, on this occasion the sticky toffee pudding was overcooked and had a burnt bottom but on past visits it was 10/10.

Disclaimer : I went with one of my best friends for new year’s evening dinner at 19.15 on the 31st of December . There was a set menu of 2 or 3 courses and we both chose the Bone Marrow Tartare with chimichurri, grilled grelot onions & house-made brioche starter and the beef fillet with Potato fondant, mushroom croquette, garlic & celeriac puree, fine beans, pearl onions & madeira jus. We were in the mood for beer, so we had Asahi pints to accompany the excellent food we received. Both courses were incredible, perfectly cooked and the service is impressive, kind, smiley, charming and competent. This is the kind of place where I could easily spend the whole day with my best friends, the service is so welcoming that we both felt like we were visiting friends, rather than a gastropub. I apologise if the pictures are not accurate; this is because we forgot to take any, we were too busy catching up ( my dinner partner came from Yorkshire ) and exchanging pleasantries with the fantastic stuff. However, the food pics I posted here were taken in this very place, but on My first visit here, on a Sunday evening, for a roast. I can’t wait to go back again ! Do yourself a favour and go! Make sure you book, as it is very popular . Happy new year to all the staff there, you were amazing !

What looks like a very classic british pub from the front is much much more. For starters we had truffle aranchini which although being just apart of another dish they were very accommodating to our needs. For mains we had porthouse steak with a variety of sauces and fried as well as heavenly spinach and peppercorn sauce. And finally for desert we finished with a treacle tart with caramelised oranges which was the perfect finally to an exquisite dining experience. Our waiter John was simply the best! The nicest and most attentive man we have had the pleasure of meeting. To summarise i couldn't recommend this place more…enjoy!

I felt sorry for the staff in all honesty, both the service and food was really bad for our Christmas meal. This review isn’t the only 1 star review for this pub so it looks as though it’s being badly managed. We arrived promptly at 7pm, had to find our own table and then it took an hour for our orders to be taken (we had to go up to the bar to get drinks in the end). It’s only a small dining area, so the staff just had to look around to see we were ready. Our starters eventually came which were nice enough, but then it took another hour for our main courses to come, and we had to chase 3 times for an update on our food. When our food arrived (bearing in mind it was now 9.30), the meat was red and barely edible and one of us choked on her meat. Also, no veg as advertised. How hard can it be to get a very limited festive menu right? Something clearly isn’t right with this place; they seemed more concerned with cleaning and drying dirty glasses than serving customers. The Waiter took about 20% off the bill in the end. At £50 per head for 2 courses, we still felt a little short-changed. The only positive was the beer and the good company. I won’t be returning. The chefs and waiters need to be better trained; the overall experience was very disappointing.

I’ve dined here before, and while the food—particularly the Sunday roast—is good, I had a disappointing experience with the manager, John. His approach was both condescending and unprofessional. Earlier in the week, he moved our booking indoors kindly, explaining that the terrace was booked by accident (blaming the app I used but I hadn’t seen the terrace mentioned) . However, by Sunday, he reversed this decision and informed us we’d need to sit outside—in December—with just five hours’ notice. If this change had been communicated earlier in the week, I could have made alternative arrangements. Instead, it created unnecessary inconvenience on a day when it’s difficult to make last-minute adjustments. The lesson here is simple: if you make an agreement, honor it. Going back on your word only creates frustration for your customers.

An absolutely excellent evening in their private room on the first floor. The service was polite and attentive and the canapés were faultless. The pigs in blankets and salmon belinis were fantastic but the truffle arancinis were unbelievable good. No idea why they aren’t on the normal menu. Soooo good. Highly recommended on all fronts.

Service was soooooo slow. Took 30 minutes to take our order, 60 minutes to bring the food - then as soon as we'd eaten they wanted our table back! Was a joke. Food was average...had worse but definitely had much better.

We came to this pub on Saturday night. Was very busy in the bar. We were moved upstairs to eat. It was cold and we asked if door could be closed and they said no. My husband and I had lamb shepherds pie. It came out in the smallest bowl the gravy was runny and the meat didn’t taste like lamb. The potato on top was very thin. The only veg that came out was peas. Way too expensive for what we had. Staff were polite. There were 5 of us altogether. Friends had steak which they said was nice but could if had more with it other than chunky chips. Very disappointed.

Staff behaviour is so appalling. Was met with a staff who couldn’t direct us to a table. The manager seemed super confused when we asked for a place. I am at a restaurant asking for a table for two, what else could that mean? I am sure this doesn’t apply to everyone working there but come on guys.

Absolutely loved our girls Christmas roast here! Sam and Josh were super attentive and the food was fantastic! We had a whole selection from beef to pork to chicken to veggie roasts and the sides were to die for as well. The atmosphere was so cosy. No one rushed us off, so it really felt as though we were at home.. but didn’t have to do the washing up! We’ll definitely be back!

We came for a roast lunch on Sunday. It was really busy. Ordered 3 roast, one without garlic. I had already notified them of this when booking however the waiter didn't seem to know. We had to wait 1 hour for our food which was a very long wait. When they brought my partner's roast, there was no gravy on one of them but nobody told my partner that he couldn't have the gravy. He would have chosen a different dish as the roast was very dry without the gravy. The portions are generous and to compensate for our long wait, they took the service charge off the bill. Been here before and I like their food but they need to fine tune a few things when it comes to service (please advise the customer of what food he will receive and advise them that the food will take some time. Nobody did until we asked).

I had a wonderful evening celebrating a friend’s birthday at the Rose and Crown. Wonderful ambiance and the staff were just fantastic (particularly Nicole who was so kind and attentive all night)!

I came here with my girlfriend recently and I can say the waiter’s service was really surprisingly attentive. I've never had that level of service for such a low price point before. A very big thanks to Josh who took care of us the whole night making us feel welcomed, great service!

They charge for extra gravy!! Overall it was an average Sunday roast, there are far better options in Clapham Old town. Beef was tough and tasteless, however other people had Pork and Chicken which they said was good.

We were looking for a family-friendly venue with plenty of space to host our reception after our civil wedding, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. We had a group of 41 people and opted for the room upstairs, which provided the ideal setting for our celebration. The festive feasting menu was exceptional—perfectly suited for a family gathering. The food was absolutely delicious, with generous portions that ensured everyone had more than enough to enjoy. Every dietary restriction was accommodated flawlessly, making the experience inclusive and worry-free for all of us. The service was outstanding from start to finish, with a welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home. The communication leading up to the event was clear and accommodating, with all our wishes seamlessly incorporated. Rose and Crown truly shines with its excellent service, wonderful ambiance, and exceptional food quality. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate such a special day.

Not a good experience... starters took an hour and 15 minutes to arrive. In this time we were told they were 'on the way', 'being plated up', 'the kitchen had lost the ticket' and finally that 'the kitchen porter had dropped the plates'. Not sure exactly what was going on but the staff seemed to be all over the place. We may have just been unlucky but the tone from the staff wasn't great. Having said that the food was nice when it eventually arrived!

Ate here with a friend and it was a first visit for us both. They have a breakfast/brunch menu until 3pm. I had a full English and it was lovely. Nice and hearty on a chilly day. My friend had the Autumn Burrata and it's the best she's ever had - delicious

Had the Hash Browns & Sticky Beef Cheek and it was some of the most tender and delicious beef I have ever had. The flavours, textures and quite literally everything else about the dish was incredible.

Really poor experience going for a Sunday roast today. As soon as we were seated the Scottish manager on the door started berating the wait staff for not setting up our table even though we had arrived a fair bit early. His behaviour towards the wait staff continued throughout the visit and was honestly quite uncomfortable to witness. The service itself was incredibly slow. From when we were seated we waited 25 minutes before flagging down the manager for a menu - something he didn’t seem to appreciate. The only thing I can say is that from when our orders were taken the food arrived quite promptly. However the drinks we ordered never arrived and we had to ask for them to be taken off the bill. The food itself was perfectly fine, although I enjoyed it more than my partner. My only criticisms being that it arrived lukewarm and the pork felt slightly overcooked. Absolutely better roasts out there for better value. Would definitely advise spending your money elsewhere.

Unfortunately didn’t have a good experience here after booking a table for a Sunday lunch. I had added notes to the booking that we would have a baby with us and need a high chair but after arriving, they sat us in a very tight corner on the terrace where the heaters were broken. The staff were visibly annoyed with one of the managers moving our pram roughly without permission. I understand they can take up space but this is why I always prepare by making sure the place booked knows there will be a baby so we can be sat accordingly. Having worked in restaurants for many years, taking reservation notes into account is so important when planning a service. The food sadly didn’t save this experience as it arrived to our table lukewarm, we couldn’t cut into some of the vegetables as they were barely roasted and the vegetarian option was very very poor. Really disappointing overall after we had been looking forward to come here.

Best Sunday roast I’ve had in London in a long time! Portion sizes were huge and the beef was honestly to die for, as was the sticky toffee pudding, my only small feedback would be that the potatoes were not crispy at all, cooked fine, but more boiled than crispy roasties! Otherwise the most fantastic Sunday evening here, such a lovely atmosphere!

This was a bit of a disaster. Been for Sunday lunch before which was good, but not today. The steak was asked to be rare and came out nearly well done, a bowl of chips had to be returned and they tasted like they had been sitting there for a long time (they replaced them and they were fantastic) and the rib special came with 5 freezing cold “ribs” covered in bbq sauce that were hands down the worst I’ve ever had. The apple slaw was cut green apple with some weird mayonnaise . And what may be a first I’ve ever seen… the fish and chips come with no peas…. Super odd and we heard the table next to us complaining about it to the waiter. The crowning glory was a £1 donation added to my bill to their chosen charity. Of course I didn’t ask for it to be taken off, but then again I don’t come to places to feel like an @$$hole for asking for £1 to be removed. I would have preferred if they asked at the end if I wanted to donate a £1 to their chosen charity. Fantastic staff though, but the chef … ermm Wouldn’t come again, which is a shame

Very rich! I tried the roast chicken with the gravy on the side, so I could add it to my liking. Delicious gravy! It's not the cheapest place, but for once to try the typical food here it's great! Very nice atmosphere. One of the people who was with me ordered roast beef and it came medium rare, perhaps it should be ordered well cooked!

Very popular spot so try book if you can but my friend and I walked in and got lucky. John managed to fit myself us in and his service was friendly, helpful and upbeat. We shared the beef and pork roast, cauliflower cheese side and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Absolutely delicious! Beef was perfectly pink, pork crackling on point and the gravy was moreish.

Completely understand why restaurants take card details to protect themselves against actual no-shows but I never imagined if you’re all there and they can’t accommodate you in a way that the customer is happy with (nobody books a Sunday roast days in advance to be shunted onto non-facing backless bar stools), they’d be saying that you’ll be charged £40 if you don’t take what you’re given. It just feels like pure arrogance and that they can do what they like once they have your card details like a budget car rental outfit. They wheeled back the threat, probably because they could see i was furious and they wanted us gone. We stayed but I’d never go back. Just flag what’s actually a table and what’s a bar stool on your booking system.

Food was lovely but sadly we were rushed as they had mentioned they overbooked and we were told there was only time for food and no dessert or after drinks.

Made a booking for 4pm, tried calling numerous times in the 24 hours leading up to the booking to ask about the possibility of a table outside. No answer. We turned up just before 4pm, were rudely told to wait outside, eventually when asking someone else we were told to wait by the bar and someone would take a drinks order from us while we wait, nobody did. 4pm came and we asked someone if we could order a drink, they said they will come back, didn’t. 4:05, we asked if it was possible to grab one of the many free tables, considering we’ve now been waiting 15 minutes or so and there were free tables inside, and outside. The response was to “be patient”, incredibly rude. We then saw that same person seat a group the same size as us who had only just arrived, and not been waiting outside or by the bar like we had. We questioned this and were shocked by the response which was “Your booking is 4pm, it’s only 4:10, be patient”, incredibly rude. 4:15, we were so fed up we just decided to sit outside at a table that had been free this whole time that we had been staring at, only for the same waiter to tell us we were not able to sit there and to continue waiting by the bar. We ended up being so frustrated by the whole experience we just left and went to another pub 100 yards away who seated us no issues, and gave great service. Overall, I would say this place either needs a better booking system, more staff, less tables, or a combination of all three. Side note, it was incredibly, incredibly hot and sweaty inside (it wasn’t even a hot day!), with fans doing little to help, with an incredibly chaotic loud atmosphere, would not recommend in comparison to some of the other much better options very close by.

When there’s seven seats empty and inside the bar is empty I said no, I don’t He looked at the tablet in his hand Then 4 People sitting at a table He went over to them Serve them I walked out He didn’t ask me what I wanted to order And didn’t even say Whether they were fully booked or not Totally unacceptable customer service When Surely easily had the tablet in his hand He should’ve been able to tell me There and then, if there was Any seats And obviously, with a pub being virtually empty And outside there was about Nine seats empty This is 2:30pm in the afternoon I’ve never been in a pub Where they ask Do you have a reservation? It’s not a hotel And then for me to chat to Three members of staff Still not even get served Or even know whether you’re fully booked or not Which obviously I don’t think you are So I decided to go to Wetherspoons Got served straight away Food was excellent No mess around No nonsense about you need to have a reservation What a complete and utter joke of a pub With many pubs closing down going bankrupt I’m sure you’ll probably be the next one The way you treat your new customers If anybody reading this find somewhere else in Clapham Common Because this place has no customer service And doesn’t know how to treat new customers This is why if there was zero stars, I would definitely give you zero stars I will post online every were lets other know to avoid the rose and crown if like great service From Scott Bryant

Nice pub with a good atmosphere . The staff were friendly , helpful and efficient. A little bit pricey, even by Clapham standards, but the food was good , although you need to choose carefully if you want any green veg . The Treacle Tart was ace.

We’ve eaten here a number of times and the food has always been great but service quite curt and abrasive in style. I was a returning customer as food had made up for this but the rudeness reached a new height yesterday and we won’t be returning, which is a real shame. We’d booked a table outside in order to make the most of the warm evening weather. When we arrived the outside was full so we let the host know we had a booking -on the terrace - she told us that we’d have to eat inside as they do not honour outside bookings and it’s first come first served. We were incredibly frustrated as we’d chosen this pub as an outside option over a number of others and didn’t want to sit in the dark wooden interior on an august evening. There was no apology from the host and she made the claim that “no restaurant or hotel in the world honours outdoor bookings” which was a ridiculous statement and just an outright lie. When I told her it was misleading to allow people to book online for an outdoor table if they wouldn’t honour it she started shouting back in my face “it’s not misleading, it’s not misleading” in front of other customers, in the end I just walked away as the conversation had become so unpleasant. All she needed to do was apologise and say that the booking system was misleading and they’d look into it. Unfortunately due to this treatment we will not be returning.

Judith and her team were tremendous. My friend and I were sat in the terrace and had incredible customer service, which seems to be a rarity in London. Would highly recommend for all aspects, the fish and chips were our favourite.
