The Rose & Crown in Lambeth

We had an amazing experience at the Rose and Crown. As locals from Clapham, we wanted somewhere close to home, and the Rose and Crown truly delivered. We were looking for a family-friendly venue with plenty of space to host our reception after our civil wedding, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. We had a group of 41 people and opted for the room upstairs, which provided the ideal setting for our celebration. The festive feasting menu was exceptional—perfectly suited for a family gathering. The food was absolutely delicious, with generous portions that ensured everyone had more than enough to enjoy. Every dietary restriction was accommodated flawlessly, making the experience inclusive and worry-free for all of us. The service was outstanding from start to finish, with a welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home. The communication leading up to the event was clear and accommodating, with all our wishes seamlessly incorporated. Rose and Crown truly shines with its excellent service, wonderful ambiance, and exceptional food quality. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate such a special day.

Not a good experience... starters took an hour and 15 minutes to arrive. In this time we were told they were 'on the way', 'being plated up', 'the kitchen had lost the ticket' and finally that 'the kitchen porter had dropped the plates'. Not sure exactly what was going on but the staff seemed to be all over the place. We may have just been unlucky but the tone from the staff wasn't great. Having said that the food was nice when it eventually arrived!

Great food, great drink selection, and fantastic service from the always fabulous Jon! The terrace at the front is also perfect for drinks year round with heaters and comfy seating.

Ate here with a friend and it was a first visit for us both. They have a breakfast/brunch menu until 3pm. I had a full English and it was lovely. Nice and hearty on a chilly day. My friend had the Autumn Burrata and it's the best she's ever had - delicious

Had the Hash Browns & Sticky Beef Cheek and it was some of the most tender and delicious beef I have ever had. The flavours, textures and quite literally everything else about the dish was incredible.

Really poor experience going for a Sunday roast today. As soon as we were seated the Scottish manager on the door started berating the wait staff for not setting up our table even though we had arrived a fair bit early. His behaviour towards the wait staff continued throughout the visit and was honestly quite uncomfortable to witness. The service itself was incredibly slow. From when we were seated we waited 25 minutes before flagging down the manager for a menu - something he didn’t seem to appreciate. The only thing I can say is that from when our orders were taken the food arrived quite promptly. However the drinks we ordered never arrived and we had to ask for them to be taken off the bill. The food itself was perfectly fine, although I enjoyed it more than my partner. My only criticisms being that it arrived lukewarm and the pork felt slightly overcooked. Absolutely better roasts out there for better value. Would definitely advise spending your money elsewhere.

Unfortunately didn’t have a good experience here after booking a table for a Sunday lunch. I had added notes to the booking that we would have a baby with us and need a high chair but after arriving, they sat us in a very tight corner on the terrace where the heaters were broken. The staff were visibly annoyed with one of the managers moving our pram roughly without permission. I understand they can take up space but this is why I always prepare by making sure the place booked knows there will be a baby so we can be sat accordingly. Having worked in restaurants for many years, taking reservation notes into account is so important when planning a service. The food sadly didn’t save this experience as it arrived to our table lukewarm, we couldn’t cut into some of the vegetables as they were barely roasted and the vegetarian option was very very poor. Really disappointing overall after we had been looking forward to come here.

Best Sunday roast I’ve had in London in a long time! Portion sizes were huge and the beef was honestly to die for, as was the sticky toffee pudding, my only small feedback would be that the potatoes were not crispy at all, cooked fine, but more boiled than crispy roasties! Otherwise the most fantastic Sunday evening here, such a lovely atmosphere!

This was a bit of a disaster. Been for Sunday lunch before which was good, but not today. The steak was asked to be rare and came out nearly well done, a bowl of chips had to be returned and they tasted like they had been sitting there for a long time (they replaced them and they were fantastic) and the rib special came with 5 freezing cold “ribs” covered in bbq sauce that were hands down the worst I’ve ever had. The apple slaw was cut green apple with some weird mayonnaise . And what may be a first I’ve ever seen… the fish and chips come with no peas…. Super odd and we heard the table next to us complaining about it to the waiter. The crowning glory was a £1 donation added to my bill to their chosen charity. Of course I didn’t ask for it to be taken off, but then again I don’t come to places to feel like an @$$hole for asking for £1 to be removed. I would have preferred if they asked at the end if I wanted to donate a £1 to their chosen charity. Fantastic staff though, but the chef … ermm Wouldn’t come again, which is a shame

Very rich! I tried the roast chicken with the gravy on the side, so I could add it to my liking. Delicious gravy! It's not the cheapest place, but for once to try the typical food here it's great! Very nice atmosphere. One of the people who was with me ordered roast beef and it came medium rare, perhaps it should be ordered well cooked!

Very popular spot so try book if you can but my friend and I walked in and got lucky. John managed to fit myself us in and his service was friendly, helpful and upbeat. We shared the beef and pork roast, cauliflower cheese side and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Absolutely delicious! Beef was perfectly pink, pork crackling on point and the gravy was moreish.

Completely understand why restaurants take card details to protect themselves against actual no-shows but I never imagined if you’re all there and they can’t accommodate you in a way that the customer is happy with (nobody books a Sunday roast days in advance to be shunted onto non-facing backless bar stools), they’d be saying that you’ll be charged £40 if you don’t take what you’re given. It just feels like pure arrogance and that they can do what they like once they have your card details like a budget car rental outfit. They wheeled back the threat, probably because they could see i was furious and they wanted us gone. We stayed but I’d never go back. Just flag what’s actually a table and what’s a bar stool on your booking system.

Food was lovely but sadly we were rushed as they had mentioned they overbooked and we were told there was only time for food and no dessert or after drinks.

Made a booking for 4pm, tried calling numerous times in the 24 hours leading up to the booking to ask about the possibility of a table outside. No answer. We turned up just before 4pm, were rudely told to wait outside, eventually when asking someone else we were told to wait by the bar and someone would take a drinks order from us while we wait, nobody did. 4pm came and we asked someone if we could order a drink, they said they will come back, didn’t. 4:05, we asked if it was possible to grab one of the many free tables, considering we’ve now been waiting 15 minutes or so and there were free tables inside, and outside. The response was to “be patient”, incredibly rude. We then saw that same person seat a group the same size as us who had only just arrived, and not been waiting outside or by the bar like we had. We questioned this and were shocked by the response which was “Your booking is 4pm, it’s only 4:10, be patient”, incredibly rude. 4:15, we were so fed up we just decided to sit outside at a table that had been free this whole time that we had been staring at, only for the same waiter to tell us we were not able to sit there and to continue waiting by the bar. We ended up being so frustrated by the whole experience we just left and went to another pub 100 yards away who seated us no issues, and gave great service. Overall, I would say this place either needs a better booking system, more staff, less tables, or a combination of all three. Side note, it was incredibly, incredibly hot and sweaty inside (it wasn’t even a hot day!), with fans doing little to help, with an incredibly chaotic loud atmosphere, would not recommend in comparison to some of the other much better options very close by.

He said, go and sit down somebody will serve you Somebody come up to me Said do I have a reservation? I said no She walked off did not come back and I wait another 10 minutes Somebody else come up Table for two or one I said one She walked away Then a man waiter Come up to me Do you have a reservation? When there’s seven seats empty and inside the bar is empty I said no, I don’t He looked at the tablet in his hand Then 4 People sitting at a table He went over to them Serve them I walked out He didn’t ask me what I wanted to order And didn’t even say Whether they were fully booked or not Totally unacceptable customer service When Surely easily had the tablet in his hand He should’ve been able to tell me There and then, if there was Any seats And obviously, with a pub being virtually empty And outside there was about Nine seats empty This is 2:30pm in the afternoon I’ve never been in a pub Where they ask Do you have a reservation? It’s not a hotel And then for me to chat to Three members of staff Still not even get served Or even know whether you’re fully booked or not Which obviously I don’t think you are So I decided to go to Wetherspoons Got served straight away Food was excellent No mess around No nonsense about you need to have a reservation What a complete and utter joke of a pub With many pubs closing down going bankrupt I’m sure you’ll probably be the next one The way you treat your new customers If anybody reading this find somewhere else in Clapham Common Because this place has no customer service And doesn’t know how to treat new customers This is why if there was zero stars, I would definitely give you zero stars I will post online every were lets other know to avoid the rose and crown if like great service From Scott Bryant

Nice pub with a good atmosphere . The staff were friendly , helpful and efficient. A little bit pricey, even by Clapham standards, but the food was good , although you need to choose carefully if you want any green veg . The Treacle Tart was ace.

We’ve eaten here a number of times and the food has always been great but service quite curt and abrasive in style. I was a returning customer as food had made up for this but the rudeness reached a new height yesterday and we won’t be returning, which is a real shame. We’d booked a table outside in order to make the most of the warm evening weather. When we arrived the outside was full so we let the host know we had a booking -on the terrace - she told us that we’d have to eat inside as they do not honour outside bookings and it’s first come first served. We were incredibly frustrated as we’d chosen this pub as an outside option over a number of others and didn’t want to sit in the dark wooden interior on an august evening. There was no apology from the host and she made the claim that “no restaurant or hotel in the world honours outdoor bookings” which was a ridiculous statement and just an outright lie. When I told her it was misleading to allow people to book online for an outdoor table if they wouldn’t honour it she started shouting back in my face “it’s not misleading, it’s not misleading” in front of other customers, in the end I just walked away as the conversation had become so unpleasant. All she needed to do was apologise and say that the booking system was misleading and they’d look into it. Unfortunately due to this treatment we will not be returning.

Had such a great night at this establishment. Judith and her team were nothing short of exceptional. Such incredible warm service and truly excellent food. It was like being home In Sydney for a night. Highly recommend for a drink and a bite!

Judith and her team were tremendous. My friend and I were sat in the terrace and had incredible customer service, which seems to be a rarity in London. Would highly recommend for all aspects, the fish and chips were our favourite.

Spectacular Sunday Roast. Been twice now and both times have been superb. Very professional and welcoming staff, with a nice front terrace to enjoy your meal. Highly recommend particularly for the Sunday menu!

I love a good, proper pub, and The Rose and Crown has to be one of the last true establishments in London. With its wood-paneled walls, expertly engineered draught taps, and branded glasses, it exudes a touch of class. Until recently, I hadn’t tried the food, but after polishing off a full roast, I can confidently say the service was exceptional as well. On a particularly hot day, they made a special space for me outside, and I felt both welcomed and truly appreciated the meal. Very, very good. This is a must-visit, and a regular spot for me

We booked the private room upstairs at the Rose and Crown for a big family meal. We were in touch with Jon who helped with our preorders for food and drink and even helped design the room layout for the evening. The food that was served was amazing, the drinks flowed nicely and the private room was perfect for a special occasion. Jon and the team did a fantastic job and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We would definitely hire the space again and trust the team to run a great event for us.

It's a nice enough pub, our waitress was lovely but the food is just ok, quite overpriced for what it is. We sat inside and it's very noisy and hot because it's small, staff chatting loudly, scraping plates and crashing around behind the bar. Better to sit outside.

The Sunday roast is always a hit! Plentiful and nice garnishes. One word of caution to the chef, easy on the salt for the roast potatoes. Otherwise, really nice food and service.

Food is great but the let down was the service. We told a colleague that we were going for Sunday Roast at the Rose & Crown earlier in the day and got some feedback "just be prepared that the service will be slow". And slow it was! It was not slow but it's been awhile since we have felt we were ignored at our table when we dine out. Staff walk pass through the dining area looking at the floor instead of checking if someone needs assistance or wants to order something. The food was great but they really need to improve their service. We paid £130 for Sunday Roast for two(didn't have dessert because we gave up waiting for someone to take our order). I walked away disappointed and upset. Hope they improve their slow service (if we got warned, then today was not an excuse - it was not even a busy Sunday afternoon. Note as well. We ordered a bottle of red. The wine glasses served to us came straight out of the dishwasher so it was still hot when the wine was poured. Not the best experience. We live in the area so I will give them another chance next time.

Eggs royale are a joke! This is a disgrace! You’re better off going for brunch nearby!

The food is inedible. We got spicy and burnt chicken wings. There were also black parts in the fries. We asked for the cola without ice, which the waiter managed to remember only on the third delivery. The parasol could have been opened with the manager's permission, but he did not. We sat with a small child in the hot sun. We left angry and hungry. It was hideous and expensive.

Jon and the team looked after us so well last night. Good food and great ambiance backed up with great service. Marie was a great server. Always on hand and really efficient. Thanks Marie 😊

I highly recommend the brunch on Saturdays. We had a lovely time seating on their terrace. Their eggs benedict were absolutely exceptional!!!

Rest pub more than 100 years old, very well decorated, good dishes and several drink options.

We had lunch for two and food was of very good quality with friendly and helpful staff. Lovely venue, spacious, with large windows, tables outside and enviable space. Great place in the heart of Clapham! When in the area, surely place to visit!

A simply lovely brunch had here on Sunday. First class service by Jonathan and his team. The asparagus starter was lovely and Max our waiter couldn't do enough to make this a special occasion. A really great dog friendly location, food excellent and really enjoyed the wine recommendation. We will certainly be back soon.

A great Sunday lunch for five, we sat in the upstairs dining room which is quieter than the ground floor bar. Excellent service from both Izzy and Jon, a great selection of traditional roasts with very generous portions. Would certainly return

The chicken roast and lambs roast were good. The chicken wings not so much it had too much sauce. Loved the staff and margaritas. It gets booked up quickly in the weekend so a reservation is needed

Awful service. Sat down for a drink with my girlfriend on an empty table only to be told half an hour later it had been reserved. There was no reserve sign. They didn’t even offer to reseat us at an alternative table or even apologise. They then preceded to make us stand in the stairwell while we finished our drinks.

What a find!! What a roast!! Best roast dinner ive ever had, and the cheese cauliflower was heavenly! Shout out to John and the rest of the team for looking after us!

We came for a couple of drinks and a small bite to eat, not expecting anything special but Tapiwa made it a bit special, such a kind and attentive man who clearly cares about his job and made our couple of hours at this pub really fun! Firstly, Jon accommodated an outside table for us after our inside booking. Thereafter, just a sublime roast. Definitely recommend this if in Clapham

Booked in advance for a Sunday lunchtime and was glad that I did, this place was super busy! I could see why - lovely decor and overall aesthetic. My friend went for the Sunday roast (lamb) and I went for the veggie breakfast as I hadn’t eaten yet. Mine was okay but I did suffer from food envy, my friends roast looked AMAZING. Very generous portions. I’ll definitely be going back again to try the roast myself!

Fabulous by every definition of the word!!

We had a Sunday roast here on Sunday and it was amazing! The lamb was cooked perfectly, the roast potatoes were crunchy! Paired with a lovely bottle of red and a trickle tart for dessert, my kind of Sunday! The staff were so friendly, funny and welcoming! I would definitely eat here again! The deco is nice, clean and spacious. Only thing I would say is that the tables are a little small, we could hardly fit our food, wine and water on the table. But apart from that 10/10!

Fantastic, classic pub - food and drinks great and reasonably priced … staff were all super engaging and very patient as we had two very young kids with us making a lot of noise and they made us feel very comfortable - will be back!

My friends and I had a lovely time. We all enjoyed our starters - mine was the scotch egg which was cooked to perfection. While my friends enjoyed their main courses, mine wasn’t so good. However, our waitress, Kirra was great. She was thorough, polite, funny and apologetic, when necessary. The Maitre D was also very good and helpful. Overall, we had a good evening and will definitely return again.

Visited last night for the first time, a great welcome on arrival without a booking, shown to a table immediately and received immaculate service from all. Had the pork chop and hot honey chicken burger specials which were both great. It was very busy but absolutely no issues with any wait for the food or drinks. Will definitely visit again as they recommended the Sunday roast. Also have Lucky Saint on tap which is actually the original reason we chose to visit.

The perfect local pub in Clapham!! I’ve never had a bad meal and no bad service. The staff are always super nice and friendly and welcoming like walking into a friends house. I’ve been numerous times and different days/ times and service and food have always been amazing. It’s my go to for a date or a catch up with the girls! Our waiter today was Tom and he was the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We came here after a long flight and were ready for a good roast. Really hit the spot. The beef was lovely and tender. The Yorkshire was incredible and I loved the red cabbage. Really good portion size and friendly service. Also thoroughly enjoyed the Malbec! Will be back to try the desserts next time!

Had an impromptu brunch here on a wet Sunday and couldn’t have asked for more. Jon and Will provided excellent service, the beef cheeks with tater tots and poached egg was to die for!

This is becoming one of my favourite pubs in London. The inside is so cosy and the food delivers all the expectations! The Sunday roast is a must (I had the chicken) and I saved some space for the sticky toffee pudding, which was so good! Had my birthday lunch at The Rose & Crown yesterday and it was great. The food was exceptionally good, well presented, hot on arrival and really tasty. We were served by Alex who really knew his stuff, telling us about the specials with total recall and later I heard him discussing wines with great authority, so if wine is your thing he’s your man. It wasn’t overly busy but it was a Wednesday lunchtime however it’s obviously a popular place for locals and/or those in the know, as it started to get buzzy around 2.

A good pub, plenty of drinks choices and the staff certainly took pride and care and in serving then drinks. Lots of seating as well as an outdoor area with heaters.

Very bad service. They asked me to leave instantly my table because they had a booking. I was drinking my tea, it’s like I had to leave now!!!! It is NOT acceptable. You do not treat client like that!! They just want to make money rather than keeping clients and customer satisfaction obviously doesn’t count!!!
