Well, after visiting 35 years ago, this visit was a lovely surprise. This reincarnation wasn't anything as I remembered from way back when. It's really pulled it's socks up and is not the tacky, hen night place of the past with the Elvis impersonator. We were welcomed and seared really nicely. The staff were friendly, chatty (not overly) and helped with the drinks and menu well. A few of us were non-drinkers and our mocktails were delicious. I heard about four times... "your won't go hungry here". Never has a true word been spoken. HUGE portions. The food was mighty and tasted as good as the divine smells coming from the kitchen. The ambience was still a little light hearted, we were given the massive sombrero's as a birthday table of 10. Lots of couples seated as well. The decor has stepped up and more in line with other current Mexican restaurants. Overall. I actually would be back, enjoyed it all and will not wait another 30+ years. Well done, would recommend.

The food was overall nice. came quickly, tasted good. The service was a bit slow. It’s a Friday after all but I decided not to pay service on this occasion as was met with “was the service not good” not really. Just handed me the food, and left. No check backs, no asking if I wanted more drinks. I had to go to the bar to order. The restaurants good but just lacks staff for when at capacity it seems.

Okayish mexican place, food did not feel particularly inspired nor flavourful. It was not too bad in terms of taste, but definitely nothing special. Did not feel authenticity at all.

The staff were nice. The atmosphere was lovely. They have these hats on the table that you can put on while eating. The music really added to the atmosphere. The only negative thing I had were the churros, what I was served was slightly different from what was in the picture. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be? It was my first time eating there. I would definitely come again.

Sad how much this place has gone down hill over the years! Chef looked dirty! Waitress was rude! Prices are up yet quality of food and service is down.

The food is amazing but most importantly the cocktails are THE BEST IN LONDON. Always satisfied when I'm here.

Inflexible menu and overly sweet cocktails. Edit: Ate at 4:30pm on a Tuesday and was the *only one* in the whole resturant (until shortly after 5pm) and my request was a side of *Torilla chips* (oddly not a offical side) and was told the menu was as is.

I had been going to post a one start review after a disappointing problem with some drinks but anyone can make a mistake, it's about how you fix them that matters and here at El Chicos I am, (originally reluctantly) impressed with the very positive and very friendly approach. If everyone was at good at fixing the occasional mishap as El Chicos then the world would be a better place!

I love the place, good atmosphere and the music in Spanish gives it its special touch 🧡 and the boy is also very friendly

My family and I celebrated my dad's birthday at El Chicos because we love this place. The food is tasty with generous portions, the cocktails/ mocktails are always a crowd pleaser, the atmosphere is relaxed (& child friendly) and the staff are so nice! My favourite Mexican restaurant in London!

It was really nice place while ago… unfortunately the food is not the same You can see cheap ingredients,food is not tasty and only warm,cutlery was very dirty(even when we change them twice!) Menu looks dirty and old The place doesn’t look clean at all.. big shame We will not be back again..

Pleasant, good service - got order wrong and needed to be pushed to compensate. Cocktails (in happy hour) were nice but dear.

Food was cooked with love, care and plenty of attention to all the right amount of ingredients making each dish delicious!!! Always a good place to come and have a bite to eat or a great place to enjoy cocktails with friends and family! Excellent customer service and a very friendly, local spot that turns into a little taste of Mexico when you step inside! The outside dining area even has cosy blankets that are much needed in the forever warm/chilly UK!!!

Place was lively with friendly staff and food was good. Service was poor as staff did not know who had ordered what and for some people it took over an hour for food to arrive !!

Worst food I've ever had, didn't taste like mexican food at all. Don't go here! The service was great the staff were nice, but the food was awful. We ordered various bits off the menu and it all tasted the same, like curry in a tortilla 🤢 2 hours after eating, my daughter and I got the worst stomach pains and Delly belly. We've been suffering for the past 3 days and still going. I would not recommend this place at all.

We arrived and were seated straight away, took some time to take our order for drinks. Ordered our drinks after prompting the waitress, took our food order and waited. Food came and presentation was good, however the flavor was lacking. I did not enjoy the meal, the worst part was our starters and mains went back with nearly a full plate and the waitress didn't ask once about our meal or checked whether everything was okay. Overall, drinks were good, food and service lacked.

Went there with colleagues for a Christmas gathering Saturday the 16th December … I had and recommend u to try the El Chico’s BBQ combo the meat was beautiful omg it falls of the bone .. the owner is a lovely guy thank you for recommending your restaurant/cocktail bar it was brilliant … but I ended up being embarrassed and I chose to leave early after accidentally smashing glass of empty drinks outside omg I was resting my elbows on the table and drop it goes … it’s my fault really for leaning sorry mr owner xxx ps I did my first ever BJ shot (drink) and I was a pro “wink wink” HAPPY SUNDAY people much love to everyone at that restaurant xx

Went there for lunch, it was delicious, very quiet in terms of atmosphere but that did not take away from the good quality of the food or the friendlies of the lady serving us. She also made the cocktails and they were scrumptious

Good food, large portions and polite service. However, two things restrain me from giving 5 stars: 1. Starters were served with main meal which does not make it a “starter”. We sat for 30 minutes without any food and then received all. 2. Drinks. Drinks were ok but I feel like they’re were not make from very good ingredients (e.g. cheap cranberry juice). Overall, good place to eat with your friends/family.

Good food, dessert and cocktails

I had lunch at this fabulous family run restaurant and I had such a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the staff were happy and friendly and the owners were just as nice and welcoming. I highly recommend this hidden gem in Streatham. I have to mention their delicious cocktails too, they was so delicious and reasonably priced.

The supper was tasty and delicious...I had the potatoes skins and pulled pork Burito...very generous portions..staff are attentive

The food was delicious! and the service was excellent, super friendly staff :) . i’m shocked on how empty the place was considering it’s excellence. me and my boyfriend went in and had the chicken burrito and the fajitas the flavours and presentation was amazing!! , so were the drinks we both had the Caribbean long islands and it was absolutely superb. will definitely be returning !

Food is not authentic at all, bland and tasted like packet good slapped in a microwave, but atmosphere and service was great. I overheard a waiter saying the owners were Turkish, so of course it's not authentic!

Went here for dinner on a Saturday as a group of 4. There were plenty of available tables at around 7pm. Initially we thought the music was going to be very loud inside, but if you walk in a bit more it's actually fine. We had 4 cocktails, 4 mains and one portion of nachos for £107. Note you cannot leave a tip on the card machine and service is not included in the bill. I enjoyed the drinks and the food and the hats made for some funny pictures. I'll go back!

Do not come here for food. By no exaggeration, the tacos I ordered might have been the worst I’ve ever seen or consumed. The epitome of British Mexican food. Drinks and service were fine. Advice for management: consider not opening on Sundays to avoid disappointing people looking for a casual Sunday lunch.

Apart from the grammatical error in the name (why isn't it called Los Chicos??), this place had really nice food (even though they committed blasphemy by not having any lime to go with the tacos. Service was pretty poor, had to tell the service 3 times where were the shrimp and mango tacos for my girlfriend. If I come back to the area I might probably go back to Chicos. 👌😃

The best fajita around. Service is quick, and the prices are reasonable. You will not be disappointed. Everyone should also try baby pork bbq ribs, which are perfect.

The food was ok, definitely did not feel fresh but was enjoyable. The cocktails and price point are the highlights of this place.

First time visiting after a recommendation. Starting with the positives; we were greeted warmly and quickly, we did have a reservation and we didn’t have to wait when we arrived. Waiters were attentive and polite. Drinks came out quickly and were SWEEEET but nice lol Now the food: just no. It didn’t hit the spot on this occasion unfortunately, as I was really looking forward to dining. My mum has the fish and she really wasn’t impressed, the presentation was good but the flavours and overall flesh of the fish was not good, she said it was rather “trashy” = dry, flaky. As for the fajitas I ordered, I enjoyed the prawns because you know, how can you get prawns wrong?! The steak however was just chewy and I like my steak well done on most occasions but this dish was inedible. I didn’t finish it safe to say. The starters were nice but I think there was too much calamari on the plate for a starter at least. Overall I would return for drinks for sure but for food, I’d eat before I arrive 🫠

I can't give a mark for the food as we left before it arrived. I have been to el chicos many times over the years and always had a good experience. However, things seem to have changed. The first red flag should have been that the restaurant was practically empty on fathers day. A time when most restaurants are full! Then we had to swap chairs as there was a big brown stain on a green chair, we almost swapped the table as it was damaged. There was also an unsightly hole in the wall, but still we decided to stay. We placed our order and 2 cokes came first. The cokes were flat. I told the bartender who said he would check the coke. 10 minutes later I went to see what was happening about the cokes, he said the coke was fine. I told him again that they were flat and he said he would taste it again and then repeated that it was fine. They were not fine, they were flat with just a little fizz, it's supposed to be fizzy. At that point I wasn't going to argue with him over coke, nor was I going to stay in a restaurant that wasn't going to treat me with decency, so my family and I left. We went to 'the bull' in streatham common which is a youngs pub & beer garden, it was lively, we had great food with fizzy coke and the service was second to none. It's a shame really because the bartender could have taken the cokes back and offered another drink if his coke comes with minimum fizz and he thinks that's fine. It wasn't him that was about to spend over £100 on food and drink so his opinion on whether it was flat or not, was redundant. Hopefully they learn a thing or 2 about customer service and customer satisfaction.

The food was not pleasant not fresh tasted like it was yesterday's food, guacamole was only just squashed avocado nothing else no seasoning, unfortunately the person we were been served wasn't sure about any of the food 😞 and we had to literally ask for everything, wrong food was brought over maybe it was just us but for what was paid not worth it, won't be going again

Do Not go to this establishment. .Customer service is invisible. Constantly ignored by the waiting staff and waited half and hour for our food to be told it was not even cooked . Two customers that came into the restaurant after us got served their food. .Iam disgusted hungry and my guest was left appalled. Waitress was confrontational and aggressive .

Went here for a friend's birthday. Staff very friendly and polite. The lady who served us was very attentive and patient as one of our friends was very indecisive .Didn't have to wait too long for the food, either. Excellent

I went to this place with my sister. The food was OK. Not authentic Mexican food but tasty enough. However the cocktails were lovely, especially the passionfriut mojito. Would eat and drink there again

The worst service I have encountered in a restaurant. The service staff is rude and has no manners. The new waitress was very helpful and nice. The older one tried to argue with me and was offended when I pointed out that she served us the wrong meal. She said it was the kitchen's fault even though she couldn't even remember which plate was what when bringing it. And then, no apology, just standing there trying to argue with me if it was her fault or not. At that point, I didn't even care. A simple apology would have done it. Just embarrassing and reading your newest reviews, I'm clearly not the only one having problems with her. Will surely not visit again and not recommend either. There are tonnes of better, more authentic Mexican restaurants in London.

I absolutely love this restaurant, the atmosphere is very friendly and the staff are welcoming, pleasant and ready to honour your every wish. The food is mouth watering, melts in your mouth so much taste, juicy texture and pleasing to my stomach. The cocktails are made perfect, they top up the alcohol if needed, no extra charge. I visit at least once or twice a month, can't live without it. Big thank you to the chef, management and staff. My life would not be the same without you guys xx love it

Amazing food. I had the prawns and the enchiladas. Everything tasted amazing. And the tropical Long Island ice tea was soooo good! I also had a wonderful server called Litza, such a lovely person, friendly and welcoming. I told her it was my first time there and she made suggestions and made me feel very welcomed into the establishment.

Just had the most pleasant evening at Chicos. Stunning food, amazing cocktails and impeccable service as always. It was always amazing but today was exceptional. Food was even better than before and the drinks were super delicious. The only decent place in streatham. The owner Alpa was super generous and really looked after our party. Definitely recommend. It’s no wonder this place is always heaving!!! The music is gooooooood! We can’t wait to be back! 🫶🏻

Chicos is our favourtite place for all our family get togethers. Food is always fresh, delicious and consistant. Cocktails are really good and presented very beuatifully. A piece of Mexico right on our door step. Service is also very friendly. It can get super busy though. Highly recommend.

Niestety nie polecam tego miejsca ze względu na nieprofesjonalna obsługę, bardzo długi okres oczekiwania na drinki i pomyłki w rachunku. Po 45 minutach od złożenia zamówienia okazało się, ze dwa drinki nie zostaną zaserwowane, ponieważ brakuje składników, kelnerka nie przejęła się tym faktem, jedzenie smaczne, choć nie mające wiele wspólnego z kuchnia Meksykańska. Wisienka na torcie okazała się próba wyłudzenia wyższego rachunku poprzez dopisanie nam drinków, których nigdy nie otrzymałyśmy. Zamiast przeprosin managera zostałyśmy potraktowane w mało kulturalny sposób, manager podnosil na nas głos, traktując nas jak złodziejki, mimo tego, ze zostawiliśmy napiwek. Dawno nie spotkałam się z takim zachowaniem personelu, w Londynie to prawdziwa rzadkość. Nie polecam, bo można się spotkać z dużym chamstwem i barkiem kultury wobec klienta.

Best customer service i have received in a restaurant in a long time. Every member of staff was absolutely lovely! We did have a long wait for our food, which is the reason i knocked off a star but staff tended to it quickly.

My daughter, myself and a friend went today for lunch. Despite the restaurant being empty (only one table when we arrived), it took about 30-40 minutes to receive our food. My daughters burger was burned that she couldn't eat it as it was so hard and it tasted bad, my burrito had so many bones that I was afraid to eat so I don't damage my teeth, the chicken and steak fajitas were tasty but the steak was pretty hard to chew. If we weren't so hungry, we would have returned the food and go somewhere else. My daughter only had the bread part from the burger and she was asking us to go somewhere else to eat as she js hungry because she only had the bread. I did mention to the waitress from the beginning that my burrito is full of bones and that my daughter's burger is really burned ..she didn't apologise, nothing, she only said we will get a discount from the bill.we had £9 discount but to be honest, the food and the service were so disappointing that I am not planing to go back again and I don't recommend either. Oh..I forgot to mention that we ordered lemonade for my daughter and she got some sparkling soda... not what I had in mind for a lemonade. Save your time and money and go somewhere else..These people have to improve the service and the food a lot !

They lost a customer who previously loved this restaurant. Ordered £30 worth of food (nachos, churros, tacos, burrito) from here an hour before closing time. The delivery driver brought me the wrong person’s food - which was just one small portion of churros! I phoned the restaurant who told me my food was sitting on the table in front of them and I could come and get it myself. Bearing in mind it was now 15 minutes before closing time. The staff member I spoke to was shockingly unhelpful and after a long day of working with a late finish, I was gutted. Fortunately UberEats refunded me but I was shocked by the disgraceful service and the disgusting way I was spoken to.
