Lovely old pub in Mayfield which is a gorgeous village. We stopped off for a quick refreshment after setting up a house party, thoroughly enjoyed sitting out the front before we moved on to our next casino party.

Fabulous Sunday lunch, up there with the best. Really home cooked taste and great presentation. I didn't know this little gem was in Mayfield but I will be back. Well worth a visit.

Lovely local pub friendly staff and good beers on tap I wanted to add to this review that I stayed at the pub for my friends wedding and it was really nice.Thd room I stayed in was a good size really clean and had a really comfortable bed .I was more at the back of the pub so it was really quiet both Richard and Sarah were great hosts and the English breakfast in the morning was amazing.Eat in the restaurant one night and the food was lovely.

I have eaten here three times before and I really like the pub , as a manager of a pub myself I've always been impressed. I visited today with my sister and mother for lunch and was told by the staff member that we don't do tabs , I found this strange as have run a tab before , I was told that I was only allowed to run a tab if I had booked a table which is also even more bizarre . In struggling to Understand the logic behind this has prompted me to write this review as this is poor service and not the way the hospitality trade does things , not a great experience for a pub which I am now thinking about not returning too .

Fabulous traditional Kentish pub. I had the best roast lamb I've had in years and my husband enjoyed his halloumi burger and chips which he said were extremely delicious. The landlord and team were very friendly and welcoming. Great place - we'll be back. Thank you.

We are on holiday in Mayfield and decided to have our meals in the Rose and Crown. What a lovely place to be, very kind and helpful staff, cosy and many locals visiting. The food, oh the food, they have enough choice and everything is freshly made and that you can taste! Wonderfull! We will surely be back here. Greets, Paul and Heidi from Holland.

The room is reasonably priced and very clean. Comfy bed and there is the pub downstairs. It was a quiet night when I stayed and I found the staff all extremely friendly. I ate in the pub which was fair priced and tasty. Lovely old fashioned pub in a nice area.

Dropped in for a couple of drinks late afternoon , had been a while since we ghad been there, could quite easily had been mistaken for a school playground , with children running around seemingly out of control, parents taking no notice of the nuisance they were causing to other drinkers sitting outside , eventually had had enough and moved up to the other pub in the village , such a shame as it used to be a decent drinking hole

We popped into the Rose and crown and wow what a lovely atmosphere. Family friendly ,great food and friendly staff. So good to see real local pub doing well,loads of regulars which is always a good sign. I even got a shamrock on my Guinness!!

It is what we call basic english cuisine no frills but tasty and hot. We sat near the open fire on a cold day and it was welcome. The lady who served us was also running the bar, so she was kept busy but was pleasant and welcoming.

We went for the pub quiz on a Wednesday. Really well set up and Ethan looked after us!

Very friendly greeting on arrival by the bar lady and also the locals. It is a lovely old pub with a real cosy feeling. I ordered the chicken burger with fries and coleslaw, it was delicious and if I ever returned would definitely have it again. I would recommend this pub, a proper pub that has managed to keep it's original feeling.

Went here for valentine’s meal. It’s a good village pub that we’ve known through it’s ups and downs for more years than I care to remember, hadn’t eaten here for a while and delighted to find the food was excellent & beer (long man) well kept. Pan roasted Lamb rump & duck were both delicious!

Staying in Mayfield for a few days, had a nice cosy drink by the fire one night and went back for a meal the following night. Very friendly staff, welcoming of us our Spaniel and both of us had a great meal. Would definitely recommend based on our experience.

Randomly stopped at this pub for lunch in between Christmas and new year and was blown away by the service, food, location and ambience of this fantastic pub. Well done guys. Sadly I find this kind of genuinely warm and welcoming service harder and harder to come by. We will be back.

This pub was my local for many years 40 years ago when I moved from Tidebrook to Australia Going back to see old favourites can sometimes be disillusionment but it this case it was a joy. Not too much has changed, the shove halfpenny board was not evident, the restaurant area is now a function room but otherwise the place looked great. 8 of us invaded for drinks and lunch - a reunion of those I played cricket with in Mayfield back in the day How good to see Harvey’s🍻🍻. So much better than the modern style beers and the fizzy lemonade style they call beer in Oz🤪 Food was great, the occasion very special and happy memories confirmed Thank you all

Very welcoming pub, nice food and friendly staff! I had the vegetable Sunday roast and it was one of the nicest I had in a long time. We were a big group of 14 and ordered our food the previous day. Quick service and everyone was very happy.

Booked Sunday Lunch as reviews were so good! We arrived on time…no other diners. Order taken almost immediately, Served within 10 minutes. Dinner was OK..plentiful food ,veg very slightly undercooked but fresh.Plates cleared promptly. Expected the desert menu and further round of drinks. Waited but no one came…all attention given to the bar…and it was not busy. We felt forgotten. Then a group of 3 arrived…thought we may get a recognition for some drinks…no just ignored. Had to go to bar to ask for bill. Bill given speedily but then waited to pay….in the end we had to pay at bar. We left hungry and disappointed. The pub was grubby (couple dead flies and web on window) and everywhere needed a good deep clean as very dusty. At night i expect it is cosy with the fire going but mid afternoon looked sad and shabby. Just because it is in the country there is no excuse for grime,,,also had a odour which might be dog….was impressed that dogs were refused in the dining area. Such a shame….get it sorted…just some attention to detail and not forget the paying customer!!

Greek Night, well what can I say? As we have some experience with authentic greek food we decided to join our friends for the greek night. The kleftico was mouth watering and fell off the bone, the lemon potatoes were spot on and the Tzatziki was beautiful. The wife had an amazing souvlaki. Lucy and the team were spot on and made sure we had our drinks. Looking forward to the mussels evening in a few weeks.

This is a complete gem! Friendly staff, wonderful proper pub atmosphere. Fab food, local beers & fantastic rose wine!!

My wife was recommended to try this pub when she was last staying in Mayfield and as she thoroughly enjoyed her first visit wanted me to try it with her yesterday when I popped down to see her. Warm welcome on entering and a good selection of freshly cooked food to order, which we loved. We will happily return if she is down in Mayfield on business and I am able to pop down again.

What a find! We arrived for a Sunday roast today, a first visit as we were staying nearby. We were served immediately by very friendly staff, the service was A1 throughout. The beef sirloin roast was superb and I'd have to say the Yorkshire pudding was the best I've ever tasted!! And I've tried a few 😂 and a whole jug of tasty gravy on the side. My husband had the beer battered fish n chips which was also fantastic. A good and varied menu, delivered to an extremely high standard. We will definitely be back. Well done Rose & Crown. Went with a friend for a Sunday roast, lovely food served, beautiful surroundings, definitely a characterful country pub worth eating at. Had friendly staff, easy parking as well. Highly recommended.

6 of us went for a themed Tapas Night, the food was excellent, and the service was outstanding , I would highly recommend this beautiful pub.

Tapas Evening at the Rose & Crown was delicious! With 6 friends we had various dishes all very tasty but the puff cheese balls with honey and sesame seeds were a complete and blinking yummy surprise, we ordered more! The staff were attentive and worked hard throughout the evening. We had a lovely time and we hope they have another one 😊

Just had an excellent chilli burger in here on Burger Night. Excellent value for money at £12.50, highly recommend it. In addition they also do the superb Birch Gin from Wadhurst and the award winning Hofmeister Helles Bavarian beer. Definitely recommend a visit.

Expensive. Mediocre, disappointingly average food. We haven't been here since we had a very poor meal in 2019, but it's convenient so we gave it another try. A gloriously sunny Saturday lunchtime but only five other customers when we ordered. Over £14 for a glass of very average white wine & a pint of cider. £18.50 for tiny, overcooked, tasteless burger & a few stringy French fries, £14 for a dry chicken nachos dish. It's a lovely setting for a quiet (if pricey) drink, but with such a great range of alternative places to eat in the area we won't be back. A real shame.
