This is just what a pub should be. Firstly, the beer is well-kept. And the welcome is always friendly. I've visited a few times over the past few months and it's always the same; a place where locals meet up for a nice pint and a chat, in a warm and friendly atmosphere. If you want loud music and multiple TV screens, this is not the place for you. It's a rarity these days but, as I said above, this is a proper village local pub.

We visit regularly when staying in the village. Great atmosphere; always made to feel welcome both by the landlord and landlady as well as the locals. Friday night's fish and chips are not to be missed. Would recommend a visit to this lovely local village pub.

What a disappointment. We recently moved to the area and wanted to pop in for a beer on Christmas Day, supporting a local business and enjoying a family drink. The welcome we received was nothing short of cold and rude. No greeting from the couple behind the bar, not even a smile. To be truthful they looked really fed up to be open and working on Xmas day, but their choice. The wine on offer was limited and poor, but not expensive. The Golliwog dolls in the fireplace were also unwelcome additions, highly inappropriate these days. We will not be returning again, which is a shame as we could have been good customers

No frills but well kept beer. Not a reason for a special journey but a real waste if you don't call in if you are in the area. The Stonhenge Spire was particularly good.

Good all-round pub for beers and gas beers very warm and cosy and if you’re lucky to go on a pop-up kitchen night the food is excellent

Very welcoming friendly place. Landlord came over with cheese and crackers for us all which was a lovely touch. Only wished we could have stayed longer and weren’t all driving ....

Having seen the signs for Bill & Gerry's pop up kitchen at The Rose and Crown over the past months its something that I have wanted to try. Wasn't sure how it worked so phoned the night before. No need to book, just turn up and order from the menu. Had a warm welcome from the staff, friendly homely atmosphere with a real fire. Obviously very popular with the locals. I chose pheasant casserole and my son had the beef goulash, with side dish of warm crusty bread. Pheasant was off the bone, beautifully cooked, rich red wine sauce, stuffing ball and dumpling, vegs. and crouton. My son said that his beef was one of the best "stews" he's ever had. Real winter comfort food and so filling that sadly we didn't have room for dessert. Loved the whole feel of the pub, nice to know that the real English village pub is still alive! Thank you Bill and Gerry for a wonderful Sunday lunch.

Very friendly village pub, run by very nice people, we visited three nights and made welcome by owners and local customers alike. Serving excellent ales and ciders on tap. Do not serve food but saying that the pop up kitchen/barbecue boys were there twice during our stay and cooked excellent stir fries, crepes, burgers and chicken etc. really nice pub and atmosphere.

So, this pub is in new hands again 3rd Landlord in 18 months and this ones a Little well shall we say ....shy. Polite enough but really not engaged. We visited on a Friday night and the place was heaving. We had to sit outside to enjoy our pints of wadworths 6x Bitter( £3.40) in a small plan grass garden with 6 new bench tables facing the road. Rumour from the locals is that the new owners have bought the pub specifically to run it down over the first few months and then seek planning permission to convert to housing. This seem a little far fetched to be honest an I was thinking too much Cider and conspiracy theory, until you look behind the bar...Its really poorly stocked and uopn asking was told they only sell wine in minatures ( handbag size, so I'm informed). This is conscious decision apparently. They also have decided not to do food on a permanent basis. However, on the night we went there was a trendy "Pop up Kitchen" from two visiting chefs...Bill and Gerry. We couldn't eat as the thing was sell out and the food looked amazing and around £14 for 2 courses. We counted 38 people eating. There were also a group of 6 or so well heeled 40-Something Gents discussing Politics and shakepeare at the bar ( I kid you not) and they were very polite. Not what I was expecting at all for a rural local. Decor is looking tired and 30 years out of date, but its just go so much potential and clearly a very supportive local base. So... why on earth a really busy village Pub decide not do food, sell wine by the minature yet allow a pop up kitchen to feed 40 people on its premises, use its kitchen, make a complete success of the evening and prove the case for catering is completely beyond me. Odd place, but we liked it. There's a pie night coming up from Bill and Gerry in a few weeks so and will go back on a pop up kitchen night unless its been converted to a house by then ! Nice pint though.

We dined here today as a family of 6 and were very pleased with the service and food. It's just good traditional fayre so if your looking for fine dining this probably isn't for you. They accommodated the children fantastically and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely return.

I often eat in this pub as its one place I know I can go and the staff will do their utmost to make the experience most satisfactory. I cannot eat any gluten in my food, and the kitchen staff will change the menu around to give me whatever I want to eat. Even their fantastic burgers are gluten free - the only place locally I have found that to be the case.

Even though my father-in-law had reserved a table in the empty dining room, the welcome we received was... well, highly unwelcoming. The surly landlord just about managed to fill our drink order, despite there not being much on the drinks menu despite it being a pub!

Visited here on numerous evenings and have always been met with a warm welcome. Can be busy and has a good local buzz when it is. Good standard pub food and well kept 6X.

We had a delightful meal here recently. There is a new enthusiastic chef with most of the food homemade, with locally sourced meat. Good choice of starters, mains, and delicious homemade desserts. Worth a visit

Lovely cafe with large selection of cakes, sandwiches and decent coffee. we stopped here to refuel whilst riding King Alfred's Way. Friendly staff, clean toilets, sensible Covid precautions and next door to a little Nisa shop for anything else you need

Stopped on a trip from Cinderford to Romsey , have driven past many times but never had time to stop, husband and son had ‘small ‘ breakfast and I had toast and jam, the breakfast was a great size, quickly served and tasted great, really good value for money . Toilets and rest of premises are really clean and can’t wait to visit again

Food was lovely, my boyfriend and I haven’t enjoyed a meal as much as that in a while. Food and drinks are low price, especially considering the portion size. Service was good; they were fast and they made sure everything was okay. Definitely coming back☺️
