I came in a few days ago and was unhappy with the service I received. I believe the girl serving us name was Amber she was not attending to us doing the bare minimum. We waited ages for our order to be taken and then the same for the food to come out also were not asked about allergies or intolerances fortunately we were careful with what we ordered. When we received the food it was lovely however overall experience wasn’t great.

The re-opening of The Crown at Rolleston last night was a great success and although we only had a few snacks there last night, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming in this brand new re-furbished pub/restaurant. I think this is one place that will now be the `go to place`, for a lot of people, to pop in at any time, after a walk along the river, or a trip to the races, or `just because you can`. I wish the new owners the very best in their new venture.

Never tried Gin before but will be trying g again This is not a cheap pub restaurant nor a overpriced style over substance place. It's very very good food. Definitely get what you pay for here.

I currently do a lot of both Mystery Shopping for major car companies, coupled with Standards Auditing of Franchised Motor Retailers. I am therefore used to being critical of anything that is not up to the highest level of customer satisfaction. It was therefore a real pleasure to try the newly opened Gurka One Indian Restaurant in Rolleston. This is very much an owner driver establishment with Jamil and his family all involved in some way. The standard of food produced, coupled with an extremely freindly and competant owner, makes this a simply outstanding place to eat.In addition to the normally expected menu items, Jamil and his team offer new dishes to try, which in many cases are taste sensations which will almost force you to return to enjoy again. I rarely find time lately to carry out restaurant reviews, but in this case I had to make an exception. We were not disappointed. I can only suggest that early in 2016 you call them to book a table and try this exceptional resaturant. Like Craig Revel-Horwood on Strictly Come Dancing, I very rarely give 10/10 but in this instance the 10 paddle was dusted off and held aloft! Well done to all Gurkas, keep up the standards and good work, I guess we'll be returning next year!MDT - Inspector of Restaurants Was there 22/12/2105, brilliant!

The Crown is now an Indian restaurant, and it's got to be the best in England let alone Nottinghamshire. Contemporary surroundings with really comfortable chairs. Attentive host who took great pride in telling us how the food was prepared and cooked. The meal was wonderful and we rebooked immediately so that we could get in before Christmas. They are getting very busy and it's not surprising. Do yourself a favour, if you enjoy great Indian cuisine, this is the place to go.

First time visit for my partner and me. As soon as we entered there was a nice, friendly, warm welcome. The surroundings are very nice with a clean fresh feel. The owners both took the time to chat with us and they appear very genuine. Not just the usual lip service you get from some establishments. The food - both starter and mains were absolutely delicious!Without a doubt one of the best Indian meals I have ever eaten. The portions were very generous too ( I actually took some home in a doggy bag)We shall definitely be returning in the very near future. Many thanks guys for a wonderful evening.

We recently visited The Crown on a Sunday Lunchtime. A pleasant Country pub, a good size dining area with nice furnishings giving it a warm feel. A good varying menu with a Today's Specials board available. I had the Blade of Beef with Horse Radish Mash and seasonal veg,my wife had A Butter Nut squash and Goats Cheese Risotto both off the Specials board and my son Fish n Chips with Ice Cream child's menu deal. The Beef was very nice and you get an extra bowl of veg on the side, quite filling and well cooked and my wife liked the Risotto. Cost wise 2 specials followed by one cheese cake dessert and a coffee with a child's Fish and chips with ice cream, one pint of diet coke and a half of lemonade and Lime £37 The service was good and friendly although the staff looked a bit under pressure at times. We would definitely go back but given the price was a bit on the high side it would be as a treat.

Came for Christmas Day, six of us and it was just perfect from beginning to end. We were welcomed to some lovely canapés and a glass of Buck's Fizz. We then had our starters which were lovely. Onion soup was a bit more like broth than soup but still tasty. Mains were so nice, lovely beef, lamb and sea bass was huge. Deserts were just insane, every desert you can imagine plus sweets, coffee and cheese that was coming out of our ears. We were encouraged regularly by the manager/owner to go up as often as we like. It was like having dinner in someone else's home.To say all the staff were working Christmas Day they were ALL absolutely lovely. Accommodating, friendly and clearly very good at their jobs. Couldn't fault a single one. Worked like clock work. All of us dine out at least two times a week and I've never know every single one of us to be as happy and as satisfied as we were. The venue is decorated beautifully and we will definitely be returning. Thanks everyone for making our Christmas dinner lovely.

Lunched here in part of a 20-strong group of friends and family and everyone was delighted. Chef had prepared a special 2- and 3-course set menu for us to a fairly tight budget so that we could all pre-book our choices and that will have helped him to prepare what eveyone wanted for quick and efficient service. And that's just what happened. Every dish was freshly cooked and piping hot when the service team presented them in a friendly and professional manner. Notable especially were one of the best calamari starters I've ever had, a generous slice of tasty ham hock terrine, beautiifully prepared liver and bacon cooked precisely as I like it (chef knows the meaning of 'rare', unlike many!) and a generously-filled fish pie that included salmon. Doggy bags were needed at the dessert stage as several of our party decided to take their choices home rather than indulge further at the time. Which says something about the generous portion sizes! The combination of a very friendly welcome by the proprietor, modern and stylish decor, professional bar and table service and outstanding cooking make this an unbeatable venue for anyone close to Southwell racecourse. They have a large car park and offer a good range of real ales - including an excellent Black Sheep bitter when we were there.

a group of us had a meal at the Crown a few days ago, the starters were very good, as was the lamb tagine several of the party had. However the lamb steak that two of us had was very disappointing, tasteless and a real let down. We did mention this to the waitress, but no response. however my hound did appreciate the lamb I took home for him , so someone was happy!

Friendly pub, decor not quite in keeping with the lovely old building however I have eaten here on a few occasions and the food has always been very good. The steak pie is a gut busting treat if it's on. Sunday lunch is one of the best in the area. A safe bet with honest food.

Had been before and were impressed by food. We had booked sotheyknew we were coming. Even though the owner was there he was too busy talkingtoanothercouple. The service was slow, the vegetables didn't come with the meal. We then asked for another portion which arrived as we had just about finished. The dessert menu was simple but the sticky toffee pudding wasn't available Did you not really want our business ? Well we won't becoming again

Have been here several times over past three years and have never been let down. Service is excellent. The menu is extensive. There are several veggie options - although I think you still need to ask for a separate veggie menu. Why? - because you might not realise this. The food is nicely cooked and presented with well-sized portions. A selection of vegetables are served separately, and included in the price. Chips are especially delicious. Décor good. Prices are very reasonable. My only criticism is that many menu items are not written down and the server reads them out. Easy to forget when you've got about six or seven dishes to remember! You also need to ask for the veggie options. Could you please have just one written menu with any specials on a written insert or blackboards?

We had lunch here last week after not having visited for about a year. I have to say that both the quality and presentation of the food were excellent. In particular, the home made soups were of a far better quality than one expects from a gastro pub. The service was friendly and efficient and although we were early diners the room quickly filled up. Quite clearly this is a venue which is attracting a clientale which appreciates excellent value for money. I can thoroughly recommend a visit.

We ate at the Crown on the day before Mothering Sunday in 2013. That, I assume, is why the place was almost deserted. In fact, it was so quiet that when we turned up the barman seemed to be surprised to see any customers... never a good sign. Like I said, though, I think that's probably because it was the day before a really busy day for pubs and restaurants. Still, though, it doesn't explain why the service was really quite slow - at the start of the meal in particular. There were 9 of us: a birthday meal. This includes two kids, they have a children's menu. The kid's lasagnes were curiously underfilled and their starter of potato and leek soup was very bland, but they didn't seem to mind. Other starters on the fairly short menu were calamari, pate, garlic mushrooms, deep fried Camenbert, all of which - except the pate - were ordered by the party and all were declared to be fine. I had the calamari and it was very good indeed, very tender. The mains were a bit more varied. Two had fish and chips, reported it to be good; two had an 'open lasagne' - not sure how it's "open", it was like normal lasagne but topped with a wheel of goat cheese. Again, reported to be fine; later on confessions that it was a bit undercooked were forthcoming, but there you go.By this time we were into bottle #3 of Chilean Sauvignon blanc; family meals out tend to do that to you, I think. At least they do it to me. Wine was OK, if unspectacular. Other mains: I had corned beef hash, which I've never seen on a restaurant menu before, and it was everything I really wanted: hearty and comforting. The other main was sausage and mash. Looked good. So: all in all it was fine. Nothing that special. Service was slowish and the menu a bit limited, but on the whole it was a nice enough meal. Not sure that we will be hurrying back, but that's more of a reflection of the quality of other restaurants in the area than any real shortcomings in the Crown. The total was about £150, I think, for seven adults and two kids, with three bottles of wine.

We went here one Saturday evening, and I thought that the food was great. There were several things on the menu that I would have liked - in the end I went for the lamb tagine. It was well cooked and very tasty. There was a good choice of desserts - again the standard was high.I can recommend the Tempranillo red wine - very acceptable for an inexpensive (by restaurant standards) wine. All my party ( there were four of us) enjoyed the evening - a leisurely meal in a nice pub.The service wasn't the fastest I have seen, but it was OK and the pub did get busy. You can forgive a bit of a wait if the food is good.I would recommend this for a good pub meal.

I visited the restaurant last week on a week night, (first time even though I have lived in Fiskerton for over 3 years), when we got there we found that they had two large bookings. We were seated promptly, and we were given a long list of "Specials" I asked for some table bread it was brought out but we were never offered plates, no idea what he thought we were going to with it, he then took our orders, we decided to go for three courses, so we went ahead and ordered starters and mains, the waiter did come to us after 20mins to apologise for the wait, and around 10 mins later our starters arrived, all in all very good, after we had finished we then had to wait around 40mins for our mains, worst thing was there was four of us and only three meals were placed down on the table! they had forgotten the fourth meal, the other three in the family had finished there meal before the fourth (missing) meal came out, to be fair they did apologise, with an offer of free drinks, however we did not take them up on the offer, another waiter rushed our plates away whilst asking "did you want any puddings" I mean come one what kind of service is that!!? we said no and then waited an age for the bill. not a great experience, it was such a shame because the food had great potential but the service was shocking. Not sure I would give it another chance, I know they were busy - however they took them as bookings so it was no surprise to them.

The last time we had the misfortune to visit the Crown, we vowed never to return .... but we did! Such an improvement - the staff were absolutely lovely - the food was good: nice to have a vegetarian menu rather than having to ask for the "dish of the day". We visited on the last Saturday of the Olympics and watched Mo Farah win his 2nd gold along with the locals - they made us feel really welcome as we watched the race together. A good night all round.

Staying in the area for a week and always like to try the local village pub. This one has to be one of the best, especially for food. Had lunch on Saturday absolutely amazing pork belly tapas with fries plus mac n cheese and went back the same evening for specialty burger plus a grilled garlic chicken all things worthy of a 10 out of 10 some of the best food ever tasted. Add to that very reasonable prices lovely staff friendly locals and impeccably clean toilets. Wish this pub was in our home town

Booked a Saturday night slot, car park very busy, managed the last space! Pleasant lounge bar area before the meal. Bar food served as well, looked decent fayre. Our table in the restaurant was ready on time and a bonus, we were in the “parlour,” best area if you like quiet. Quick service, excellent new Autumn menu, cod croquettes great starter, the salmon fillet excellent, partner enjoyed the chicken breast. Overall pleasant experience, will be returning soon. Booking essential at weekends.

Stayed here overnight after going to the nearby Race course Really nice place with its history and clocks! Friendly staff and a very efficient waitress at breakfast. Bed wasn’t the most comfortable but only stayed for one night, otherwise would have requested another room. To be fair we were given that option upon our arrival. One other downside was that the neighbouring room complained about the noise of our TV, which wasn’t actually that loud. The adjoining walls are clearly paper thin. All in all we would use the place again if needed.

A first class meal, without blaring music, you could really relax and enjoy the conversation . We both chose the steak and it was as good as any I have ever eaten.
